Yep, Legally Blonde: The Musical was based from the movie, which itself was based off of the novel of the same name and written by Amanda Brown. I haven't read the book itself, but from what I've read about it, it follows the same overall storyline of the valley girl empowering herself and getting the harvard law degree.

I've read the book, the names and stuff are a bit different from the movie/musical, and Elle goes to Stanford, not Harvard. but overall it has the same message. the movie and musical were definitely better than the book though!
