  • hi can you help me in college doing machining engieering and i have been told me build a air/steam engine and i was going to design one then i was haveing problems with timeing ect

so please please please can i have a copie of the designs vai email or post please please

  • I don't have the plans anymore Ash. This was made at South Tyneside College, South Shields, England. You could try contacting the marine engineering dept for further details

  • ok thanks anyway

  • Inlet and exhaust ports are bored into the cylinder liner. As the piston is on its down stroke, the cylinder oscillates, covering the inlet and opening the exhaust. The momentum of the flywheel continues the movement of the piston through bottom dead centre up to top dead centre. The inlet port is then uncovered and exh covered again and comp. air / steam forces the piston down again. The trick is to drill the ports in the right place, and mount the cyl pivot correctly. Glad you liked it!

  • Can I ask a silly question. How do you time the steam entering and leaving the cylinder, it looks just like a straight feed to the cylinder. do you have valve ports that allow the steam only to enter at the right time, and to exhaust in a similar fashion? Nice vid.

  • Hi i made an extremely similar engine at tresham collage and mines gets to about 2000 rpm at 5 bars/95psi

i was wondering if your engine runs in both directions?

  • yes it runs both ways, must get a tacho on it again
