Technically the title is not correct, this is the end of war in Europe, but not the end of World War II. It took three more months for Japan to surrender.

@compooky how is he a war criminal. The soviet union at that point was already aware that them and the Americans were going to be rivals. As well did the Americans. If they didn't drop the bomb on Japan, the soviet union later on may have underestimated the Americans, and it could start a war that could potentially go nuclear. So I think the American minimized the damage by dropping those bombs.

It was the end of the war in Europe...it was not the end of WW2; that did not happen until August 1945.
