  • bhugggg, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell No!!!!!!! Calm down dude, we won.

  • Remember, Truman had only been President for a few weeks. He knew how to make a political stump speech, but making an address to the nation of this importance was new to him.

  • To respond to Augustusxiii, and others politicians use auto cues now,, not available to Truman. he became a much better speaker later on.

  • With all due respect to Truman, it sounds like he's learning to read as we listen.

  • Harry S. Truman

  • Give 'em hell Harry!

  • Dam such a world wide tragidy beacause of a hitler a loud politician and the stupidity of the german soldiers who followed dying for what? Nothing it pains me to know how stupid and easily decived people can be

  • Our greatest President

  • @SportswithSimon FDR was better!

  • @scampman2 not even close FDR got insanely lucky the Japanese attacked his New Deal would have prob put us into a hole could have left us in the depression another 50 years only the war jobs (manufacturing) pulled us out sorry FDR most overrated.

  • 1 things that bugs me about this is that he's reading from a pieace of paper,, if i was listening, i woulndt want a premade speech, i would want somethign truly from his heart, with accomplishment in his voice

  • @flyswaterman He's a politican, they aren't big on dramatic, movie-esque showings of true emotional involvement.

  • Truman is a war criminal who stupidly has tagged USA "MASS MURDERERS" - sooner or later USA will have to be tried properly for its crimes against humanity

  • Technically the title is not correct, this is the end of war in Europe, but not the end of World War II. It took three more months for Japan to surrender.

  • @andres6868 Good point! Title changed --

  • @compooky how is he a war criminal. The soviet union at that point was already aware that them and the Americans were going to be rivals. As well did the Americans. If they didn't drop the bomb on Japan, the soviet union later on may have underestimated the Americans, and it could start a war that could potentially go nuclear. So I think the American minimized the damage by dropping those bombs.

  • Change the name to "Harry Truman Announces End of WWII in Europe"

  • that was the good news of the baby boomers being born and the beginning of the wounderful postwar era of lionel trains dame i wish i was there to see it all

  • truman's awesome he's one of my favourite leaders ever

  • Comment removed

  • woah woah woah they didnt surrender to the UNITED NATIONS it was BRITAIN they surrederd too. many people forget the war was between britain and germany

  • @richjohto Your a idiot. The United States sent troops to fight Germany too smart one.

  • @richjohto You're an idiot that's not true at all. First of all, it wasn't germany it was the Nazis. Second they attacked Poland first and America was not involved initially but when Great Britain was attacked we got involved. Get your facts straight before you start talking...

  • @DoctorFuzzles You get your facts right clown.Germany attacked Great Britain in July 1940.The USA didn't join the war until Dec 1941 after they were attacked by the japs in pearl harbour.

  • @bhugggg To be fair I think that when he says "we got involved" he might mean that we supported Britain, supplied arms, etc. rather than actually joining the war.

  • @xexixk Yes, that is what I meant. But I knew this sort of thing would happen, and I'm not interested in getting in a nerdfest with "bhugggg"

  • @richjohto Britain backed up by Canadian, American and British colonies. Britain alone would have fallen. Not to take away from the extreme courage by the British people.

  • What a shock it must have been to the public to hear and see this unprepossessing man studiously reading his speech in contrast to FDR's style. Yet he was a remarkably good President

  • Truman never expected to be president, and reading that message.

  • BURN IN HELL IDIOT.

  • subtitles pleaaaase =(

  • Was this film made for, and broadcast by, the TV stations then operating (WNBT, WCBW and WABD in New York, WPTZ in Philly, WRGB in Schenectady, WTTG in DC, WBKB Chicago)?

  • It was the end of the war in Europe...it was not the end of WW2; that did not happen until August 1945.

  • was world war2 announced?

  • @JohnnySton3r

    Were there no people? lol

  • @JohnnySton3r ya back then they watched it on tv
