@DJACE102 Ion is always on. Only the 1215n can switch to integrated to ion graphics to save energy. Even with that, you will not be able to play games without decrete graphics on

@intoxicada420 i read on the eee user forums and it says "Grand Theft Auto 4 - Playable, but 15fps makes it unplayable" so i doubt it;s playable even with overclocking. id suggest going there if you want to see games compatible with the 1201n.
In SF4 you can note that the game is not really runing at 60fps ( Is not that smooth).I think Fraps is right. But, nice performance for a netbook. I ordered one!! But i intend to play only old games like doom3, max paine 2...
@elrasho24 it depends on what setting you put it on. if you put very high, the 60 will go down to like 52 and up and down. if you do around the setting i had it on, it should be pretty fine.
@zxghost When I playy single player its at constant 60FPS, its only when I jump online it goes down to 45FPS. Please can you try playing online and see if this happens to you? Thanks

@rocknroller1492 ive responded to this question throughout my videos but its not problem, im here to help. there are many options. you can get an external drive. you can drop the game into an iso on another computer with a drive and use programs like daemon tools to mount it. or if you use steam and such, they install it right away via download.

@ENDVash this netbook has nvidia ion which allows it to game. im using 3gb of ram and the stock window 7 home premiem 32bit os. the 1000he shouldnt be able to play ps2. if you want something to run ps3 emulator, you will need a decked out laptop or gaming pc. just remember that not everything will work as there are some compat problems.

People must remember that netbooks was projected for work, not (heavy) games.
But if it can run games like SF4 (even with minimal config), it's much more than enough power to work even with programs that are a bit hevy (like Photoshop, Corel, etc.). But it should not accept a 3d-Studio, Auto-Cad, and such super-heavy programs...

can I ask how come you play at low resolution but still can do FULL SCREEN? I play Left 4 Dead 2 in my 1201n but when I set it to a specific resolution, it does not go on full screen, even though I select "full screen". Do you adjust any settings on the Nvidia control panel? Thanks zx!
@rommelstrafe it's an option in the nvidia control panel. i forgot what it;s called but it forces it to make it look wide. if you;re talking about full screen mode...it should already work. you shouldnt play any of your games on windowed mode.
@zxghost No worries man, if you can't get hold of it, then it's all cool. The fact that you are doing these amazing tests is good enough. And besides, I'll have it some time soon so I can do some tests myself - including using scripts that the community have written to severely cut down graphics in order to have decent FPS. If you want, I'll let you know how it goes (so at least you know something about TF2 gameplaywise on the 1201n)
@Proz4c the battery last around 4-5 hours and less when you're gaming and doing things heavy. the only reason for that is that you may want to put it on high performance mode when gaming or watching HD movies. normally when im just web browsing, i have it on power save and have the lights dim enough to see, but personally, i think 4 hours is good with the addition of graphic strength

@Proz4c they are releasing one with the new ion2 and 440? cpu but it isnt all that great as it will suck up more battery. i think they should make a 12 cell since i guess...after claiming was a 12 cell was really only a 6 cell. a .6 addition isnt really much and i dont ion 2 is gonna be any better.
@Trafikkkkk yes, it's very true, the intel atom 330 is a dual core processor. just becareful though, there are other types of 1201's such as one that has and AMD chip and another with a intel atom 270. just a heads up

@rodger0816 you can change the harddrive out bit that will ruin your warranty. upgrading 4gb of ram helps and i do not recommend overclocking if thats not your zone

Are you kidding me? Vsync on a slow GPU? Thats and fps killer right there. Unless your LCD goes to say 240hz, the time the gpu has to wait for the screen to refresh literally cuts the output in half.

@31third it's actually not that bad multitasking since it does have a dual core processor at 1.6ghz. running aim, opera, and some word documents seem fine to me. though for gaming, the processor lacks just a bit though gaming and multitasking isnt recommended anyways xD
Ok well basically I was just asking is it worth upgrading to a 64 bit version of windows. I am going to get someone to put 4gb of ram in for me and I just did not know if it would read it all.
@31third for this netbook, there is a glitch in the bios where it read over 3.25gb even with 64bit os. just keep it at 32bit. for this netbook, some of the ram goes to the video card so you wont see a perfect 4gb

@31third i dont understand your first question but most people here in the US use windows. in a 32bit os, you can have 4gb but only 3.4gb can be read but in 64bit os, you can have up to 126gb of ram. and this netbook comes with 32bit windows

@Laceall i have noticed a tiny notice of improvement with overclocking. mass effect one doesnt work that well on this netbook but i hear 2 works better? not sure on that. check eee user forums for info on overclocking. it's a program called OC tuner. just make sure in the .ini file, when you add in the line, it says 1201n...i think...
@JC7119 yes you can upgrade the ram to 4gb. if you get the good ram, i recommend the gskill one since that's what most of us use at eeeuser forums. right now, i dont have the correct ram for power but i am able to overclock to 1.8ghz and some frame rate is improved

@xDmFLO yea, im gonna do a review on for student soon. basically im gonna cover what you need to know and stuff that will get you through school. i personally love this netbook for taking notes and personal use. it's a bit bigger than most netbooks but it is still small. other than the functions of web browsing and word processing, it has the ability to game and watch HD. it packs a power combination of simple use and media like functions
@xDmFLO it doesnt have side buttons or controls. in order to change volume you have to press FN+f11 for down FN+f12 for up and FN+f10 for mute. it's still quick to do

@WhoDatKPanic i can tell you this, that the whole purpose of a netbook is go on the net and basic functions such as word and videos. a netbook is defined as a notebook that uses lower resources and power and in smaller form for easy transport. this netbook is a bit bigger but it does the job for both going on the net, watching movies, and with the inclusion of gaming capabilites

Hey zxghost, If you were to force DirectX9 on Mirror's edge and Crysis, you could easily get an extra 5 to 10 Frames Per Second on the 1201n.

How long does your battery last? While gaming or just browsing websites?

@Proz4c the battery last around 4-5 hours and less when you're gaming and doing things heavy. the only reason for that is that you may want to put it on high performance mode when gaming or watching HD movies. normally when im just web browsing, i have it on power save and have the lights dim enough to see, but personally, i think 4 hours is good with the addition of graphic strength

@Proz4c they are releasing one with the new ion2 and 440? cpu but it isnt all that great as it will suck up more battery. i think they should make a 12 cell since i guess...after claiming was a 12 cell was really only a 6 cell. a .6 addition isnt really much and i dont ion 2 is gonna be any better.

@Trafikkkkk yes, it's very true, the intel atom 330 is a dual core processor. just becareful though, there are other types of 1201's such as one that has and AMD chip and another with a intel atom 270. just a heads up

@rodger0816 you can change the harddrive out bit that will ruin your warranty. upgrading 4gb of ram helps and i do not recommend overclocking if thats not your zone

they say they are the asus 1201n, but they never show the whole laptop like you do, so i dont know if they are fake or not-im quite impressed with what you have shown me so far, but i want to be sure it can play MW2 and MW1 b4 i buy the netbook. do u rekn it cud play online ok?

Most of people are running the 1.66 Mhz atom at 2.10 without problems.. do a look at google and you will get a little more performance! : )

Are you kidding me? Vsync on a slow GPU? Thats and fps killer right there. Unless your LCD goes to say 240hz, the time the gpu has to wait for the screen to refresh literally cuts the output in half.

Hey zxghost I just found out about this netbook today. I do a lot of flash development, which requires photoshop, and flash of course. Did you end up testing these, or know of anyone that has?

@31third it's actually not that bad multitasking since it does have a dual core processor at 1.6ghz. running aim, opera, and some word documents seem fine to me. though for gaming, the processor lacks just a bit though gaming and multitasking isnt recommended anyways xD

Ok well basically I was just asking is it worth upgrading to a 64 bit version of windows. I am going to get someone to put 4gb of ram in for me and I just did not know if it would read it all.

@31third for this netbook, there is a glitch in the bios where it read over 3.25gb even with 64bit os. just keep it at 32bit. for this netbook, some of the ram goes to the video card so you wont see a perfect 4gb

Nice video review. I am getting netbook in two days and I have to ask how is it at well you know doing something on Microsoft while maybe messing around with youtube on the internet with a couple of other tabs open? Also to upgrade to 4gb of ram do you have to upgrade to 64 bit windows 7 instead of the 32 bit it comes with?

@31third i dont understand your first question but most people here in the US use windows. in a 32bit os, you can have 4gb but only 3.4gb can be read but in 64bit os, you can have up to 126gb of ram. and this netbook comes with 32bit windows

Hey Awesome vids....after watching I bought a 1201n for my very own :), I am also looking forward to the vid you are going to do about school stuff. As I am going to be starting gradute school in the fall and could use all the tips I can get regarding how this netbook works. I was wondering what overclocking program you have set up? I play Mass Effect 2 on this every now and then and was wondering if overclocking would help? Thank You!!!!!

@Laceall i have noticed a tiny notice of improvement with overclocking. mass effect one doesnt work that well on this netbook but i hear 2 works better? not sure on that. check eee user forums for info on overclocking. it's a program called OC tuner. just make sure in the .ini file, when you add in the line, it says 1201n...i think...

I got a question, have you upgraded the ram on the system to 4 gigs? I have heard that if you upgrade it, it helps the frame rate.

@JC7119 yes you can upgrade the ram to 4gb. if you get the good ram, i recommend the gskill one since that's what most of us use at eeeuser forums. right now, i dont have the correct ram for power but i am able to overclock to 1.8ghz and some frame rate is improved

@xDmFLO yea, im gonna do a review on for student soon. basically im gonna cover what you need to know and stuff that will get you through school. i personally love this netbook for taking notes and personal use. it's a bit bigger than most netbooks but it is still small. other than the functions of web browsing and word processing, it has the ability to game and watch HD. it packs a power combination of simple use and media like functions

@xDmFLO it doesnt have side buttons or controls. in order to change volume you have to press FN+f11 for down FN+f12 for up and FN+f10 for mute. it's still quick to do

@WhoDatKPanic i can tell you this, that the whole purpose of a netbook is go on the net and basic functions such as word and videos. a netbook is defined as a notebook that uses lower resources and power and in smaller form for easy transport. this netbook is a bit bigger but it does the job for both going on the net, watching movies, and with the inclusion of gaming capabilites
