anyone ever listen to Journey pre-S. Perry?...Rolie did all the vocals I believe...really would've loved a couple more "albums" like the first 3...very progressive! They definitely headed in a different direction with Perry...also love Schon's solo work and if you like Schon and Rolie in Santana, you have to check out their band Abraxas Pool...only 1 release around 10 yrs ago I think...nice stuff
When I found this video I was like awesome!! Gregg sounds really good here! I wish he did more than one song. He had a very distinctive voice and the sound Journey had with was really good! I also can't get over how well Deen is hitting those notes! It's such a shame that he is only considered the "ace in the whole" or the "secret weapon." I really wish the band would pull a Genesis move with him and make him the lead singer. IMHO.
OMG! I think I'd have paid anything to see GR perform w/ Journey one more time. Love most phases of Journey but there was a special energy and complexity to the sound, harmonies, interpersonal dynamic when GR was with them -- partly him (i.e., deeply emotive, soulful voice), partly that phase in their music. WOW. You lucky people who saw this!! SO envious.
@txlastrebel , not surprising to hear such a racist shitty comment coming out of the heart of TXASS. You're just bitter that Oklahoma is going to kick you in the cunt this Saturday.
I love the sound from "Journey - Captured" as it really highlights Greg and Steves ability to sing together. That was the best lineup of the band IMO.
this is my dream come true, is terrible think Gregg don't play in all next tours. Neal answered me in facebook: "WE ARE PLANING A HOLE SOUTH AMERICAN TOUR". I could die in peace if i see this show at live, with Gregg Rolie. But that's never happen, and i cry.
This was a great show! Rolie coming out in a Longhorn shirt was a nice touch. Now if they had also covered a Santana tune from Shon/Rolie era, that would have been the icing on the cake. Night Ranger was a good opening act as well. Gillis still shreds!
@DWDave67 How True i still say their debut album from 1975 is their best. However the best song Journey ever recorded has to be the 8 min long Look Into The Future youd be hard pressed to beat that masterpiece
Gregg, Steve Perry, Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto, Arnel - who cares? They are ALL great singers - lets just chill and enjoy the wonders of JOURNEY!!! Thanks for posting such a great video!!
they suck, its sad neal is living off of perrys great songs an still cant move on,just sing there new stuff, its getting old,on there third singer an still dont have any number one hits, like i said just another copycat trying too be perry.they just need to retire
@tr4207 If you had done your homework you would know that Journey never had any #1s. Who cares about hits its the music that matters, listen to the first three records!
Gregg Rolie isn't from and doesn't live in Austin, he's from and lives in northern California. He was in Texas because he's currently on tour with his band. Neal's known Gregg since their Santana days and is well aware of this.

Guys, let's just enjoy the music and be thankful that JRNY is still making good music after all these years. A true JRNY fan will still love the band regardless of who's fronting it. I like Rolie & Perry. They were good in their own time. But today, JRNY's future is w/ Arnel.
Kudos to Arnel for leading the band for their 140 tours across the globe. Not to mention making it to CBS, People, CNN and Oprah. Way to go JRNY.

arnel cant sing the old all hes does is give the old songs a bad rap, dean sucks too, they are washed up,thank god rollie being there,if it wasnt for him being there nobody would of showed up
Give me a break. Was this show advertised, featuring Gregs Rolie? If Deen weren't backing him up it would have been a disaster. Quit living in the past like an old person. Let it go......

notice arnel isnt singing ,thankkgod need perry there, arnel sucks,so does dean, just a coverband, only one there is good an origanl is rollie, perry is journey
This is amazing, Greg Rollie was and is a great singer, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, I might add (with Santana), and as has been said, a key original member of the band, he kept them going with his vocals before Steve Perry and once Perry joined the band, they did several classic dual-lead vocal songs like this one, Feeling That Way, and Anytime. THANKS so much for this video!!
Greg Rollie's presence and performance legitizes Journey as a band. He graced this concert in effect to send a message that Journey is a BAND that has still some relevance. Do not even attempt to minimize his contribution, he was one of the founding members and with so many naysayers out there, his non-participation would only prove to skeptics that Journey at its present state is nothing but a cover band, SO PPL SHOW SOME RESPECT, and give credit where its due! He must be proud to do this!
Gee, wonder how they got this gig? Amazing all those people showed up, not even knowing Greg was going to show. If Deen hadn't backed him up it would have been a disaster! Give me a break! Why can't some people accept Arnel is the NEW voice of Journey?
Jeez, people. This guy sounds terrible. How on earth could anyone want him back when we have Arnel knocking every song out of the park. If it weren't for Deen this would sound like bad Karaoke.
Yeah, I'm sorry but Greg can't nail the upper registers like he did on the DEFINATIVE Journey Album: CAPTURED!!!! But who could!!! I think he sounds real good here and will ALWAYS sound better than Cain doing this! Oh yeah it must be said over and over NO other singer sounds more like 83 era Perry than Dean Castronova! His TONE is exactly like the Perry of old. Deans THE MAN!
You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who can sing the same way they could 29 years ago. They have to lower "Don't Stop" "Open Arms" & "Faithfully" a half step even for Arnel to sing them.
Technically, AP CAN sing them the half-step up. The Revelation DVD is in the original key. The decision was made unanimously to go 1/2 step down to preserve the vocal prowess of both Arnel & Deen.
@boozecoma Well, Arnel is naturally lower in voice than Steve, so he can't hit the notes Steve could. I don't think the toned down versions are too bad, though.
Wow!! brought back memories..that is Steve Perry on the background?? OMG!! OHHH.. It is Deen!!! wow would it be nice if Perry will have a chance like this??? Steveeeeee are you reading this??? you will bring down the house!!!
Rollie's parting ways with Journey was not a sour one; they maintain a good relationship.
Would have been better if AP is doin the back-up vocals but Deens' done a good job. Feeling that way/Anytime might be the next cameo from Rollie. Who Knows? Well, something to look forward to in the next tour... Keep on rockin' Journey... thanks for the post boozecoma.
Nothing's wrong with Gregg's voice. It is the same way he used to sing this song with Journey. I like the whole sound and ring of his voice, very masculine.
He still sounds great !
