In the trailer, theres a bunch of action, if you watch the movie you see that the main character never fired his rifle once, along with all of the other soldiers other than celebration shots at the end before they leave Iraq. This movie seems like it's more of a dialogue and huge story line movie all dramatic and everything rather than a traditional war movie that the director knows we all wanna see.

I call it such because in over eight hours he neglected to mention the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its director who fought the environmentalists for years in order to install a proper protection system, the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, the U.S. Coast Guard and why they and they alone were the only ones aside from La. National Guard who could help until Queen Blanco gave consent to the President to send aid in from others states and Active Duty troops... but Spike had an agenda.
Also left out was how 4000 Soldiers from the La. National Guard, just off the plane from a year in Iraq, were ordered to an indefinite period of hurricane duty, just so Queen Blanco could play politics, with thousands of non-deployed Army and Air National Guard still available. Not a single word about personal responsibility. I'm from New Orleans, born and raised. I was and still am a Ray Nagin fan, even after his tantrums, and I am a white Republican. Failure on every level, not just Whitey.
Spike does deserves a lot of credit for telling this story. The history of the segregated U.S. Army's 92nd Infantry Division (Negro) as it was known during the Italian Campaign had never been told in such a manner before. I do intend to read the book the film is based on. I've seen a few photos taken by members of the Army's 196th Signal Photo Company (SPC) and am looking for more of them from the National Archives. Field units of the 196th SPC shot still and newsreel film.

You tell me why then this unit would be left out of the movie -it was the 320th Barrage Balloon unit -setting up anti-air balloons on the beach area to protect the landers from being straffed by enemy air attack.Also landing craft pilots too.

Daveibukun there is black and white movie about the all Japanese Nesei battallion that fought in WW2 that came out not long after the war ended. I saw in a few times in the early 90's on either TNT or TCM but for some reason it doesn't get any airplay at all. It would be nice if someone did a remake of it

actually in WWII people of japanese origin were not aloud in the American armed forces and the reason that there were no blacks in Flags of our fathers was because the armed forces were still segregated and blacks and whites did not fight in the same division. there may have been black divisions sent to Iwo Jima but I didn't think so please correct me if I am wrong
All this stuff about there werent many Blacks on the battle field is nonsense. What they neglect to point out is that the American division were indeed segregated, but Blacks were allowed to fight under integrated allied command and many Blacks did so. Blacks faught for America in WW1 aswell as in WW2, just not all of them wore the American Uniform, but they faught for our country.

What did he get wrond- it's a fictional movie - it didn't happen. It's like Saving Private Ryan ---> pure fiction set in WW2 backdrop inside a an actual campaign.

It shows blacks and European whites being together normally as opposed to the US govt.'s policy of segregation in the forces AND the crap treatment by southern US States and some -not all- US white officers/ soldiers who did their best to try and get European whites to have segregated policies to black soldiers. What facts and figures is Lee twisting when he asks why no black soldiers are shown in the battle segments of Eastwood's movie -are you too dumb to go research the fact that there were 900+ black soldiers in the battle bringing ammo under fire to the Marines on the firing line?! Ask yourself is it fair the hundreds of blacks in the first waves of Omaha landings were deliberately ignored in Saving Private Ryan too. The movie A Bridge Too Far doesn't show blacks of 666th ammo resupply at Eindhoven

I truly have my doubts that Spielberg or Eastwood are deliberately leaving out "critical" facts from their films. Besides, none of these directors are compelled to be historically accurate. If you want to watch a documentary, stay out of the movie theaters.

Daveibukun there is black and white movie about the all Japanese Nesei battallion that fought in WW2 that came out not long after the war ended. I saw in a few times in the early 90's on either TNT or TCM but for some reason it doesn't get any airplay at all. It would be nice if someone did a remake of it

actually in WWII people of japanese origin were not aloud in the American armed forces and the reason that there were no blacks in Flags of our fathers was because the armed forces were still segregated and blacks and whites did not fight in the same division. there may have been black divisions sent to Iwo Jima but I didn't think so please correct me if I am wrong

All this stuff about there werent many Blacks on the battle field is nonsense. What they neglect to point out is that the American division were indeed segregated, but Blacks were allowed to fight under integrated allied command and many Blacks did so. Blacks faught for America in WW1 aswell as in WW2, just not all of them wore the American Uniform, but they faught for our country.

I think it's going to be a great film..the director is Spike Lee..and also there are great italians actors like Pierfrancesco Favino and Valetina Cervi..I LOVE THEM THEY'RE FANTASTICS ACTORS!I hope I'll work with them when I'll became a director! :D
