  • GENIUS!

  • Yawn.

  • Oh my goodness WHY DIDN'T HE KEEP MAKING QUALITY SHIT LIKE THIS AND THE REST OF SAW?

  • @bcbowar50 He did just in a different style.

  • @nickshel I mean, I'm not saying everything after SAW sucks. I'm just saying a lot of the shit he made after it wasn't really danceable to like this and wasn't as melodic.

  • @bcbowar50 Ok well everyone feels music in a different way. I see his other music as the rave music and find it very danceable, especially on acid, and this music as his relaxing stuff. Back in the day SAW was the album everyone would put on AFTER the night.

  • @nickshel You couldn't see yourself at a rave to this? Damn, I could.

  • This is literally the best tune to chill to at the end of the night.

  • Named my account after this song.

  • @PtolemyAFX Ptolemy was a Greek dude. He came up with a model of the solar system... it was horribly inaccurate, with the Earth at the center of everything and a whole bunch of other weird crap, but it was deemed the greatest model people had ever known back then - and was accepted as the 'truth' for about a thousand years afterwards.

Just thought you'd like to know where it came from.

  • @Pwnzor729 It's true indeed that his most well-known theory is also his biggest blunder, but still, he was a really brilliant thinker who contributed loads to astronomy, geography and mathematics and laid down a massive amount of scientific framework for the Romans, Arabs, Rennaissance Europeans, etc. to work upon.

Although really I picked it because I just love this song to bits and 'Ptolemy' is a badass sounding name anyways :P

  • @Pwnzor729 Aristotle thought that two objects of different weights would fall at different speeds. That does not necessarily mean he was not a great thinker or his other theories are any less spectacular.

  • @nickshel You are right, both Ptolemy and Aristotle were amazingly smart guys. Smarter than me, anyways. As bogus as their theories might have been, for the time they lived in it was really quite ground breaking. It worked for them, so there was really no reason to change it. Eventually our model of science will change and be replaced with something more accurate, and the process will continue.

  • if you like Beksinski or are Polish, you should like Stanislaw Szukalski perhaps even more. His gravity and library of work are boundless...sculptor, painter, and inventor of own ethos, "Zermatism"

  • Im sitting at my desk in the office right now listening to this track. I feel like getting up on my desk, dropping my pants and doing a boogie to this song.

  • The whole album is just amazing one of the best, unfortunately he hasn't lived up to this standard since : (

  • part of it is time...as in, i was born in berkeley in 1970

  • i dont think theres any "genius" in the strict sense of the word. i think he loves what he does and he does what he loves, and thats it.

  • i've only done nothing ever other than laugh as i listen to these little children running around in their cars with stereos with all that distortion it sounds so totally like sheist i cant believe it hopefully some nonamerican (like, most of the rest of the wonderful world) can do better at moving systems...i like the idea of motion and sound and stufF

  • This is so much better then the overrated Daft Punk.

  • @LuisGarciaDimensions Daft Punk is bullshit french pop jizz music

  • You know, I've had clinical depression for nearly three years and Aphex makes me more glad to be alive than any medication.

  • The human corpse on this picture is the result of a surgical procedure named ptolemy.

  • This shit sounds better than most electronica today, which really goes to show that it's not the price tag of the equipment, or really the equipment in any way, it's what the composer can do.

  • I don't see how the intro doesn't sound like AFX, he's done lots of stuff with Roland drum machines...

  • @w35m4n More interestingly the guy said that he could tell back then that it's not AFX, although this track comes from one of Aphex' most famous albums.

  • Like ambient/minimal techno and drone/noise? Subscribe to my channel for fresh new music!

  • May I ask what this painting (assuming it's a painting or something similar) is called or who it's by?

  • @Andokool12 The painting is by a polish artist named Zdzislaw Beksinski. Interestingly enough he never named any of his pieces. You should be able to find this image through your search engine of choice by typing Zdzislaw Beksinski into the search bar.

  • @cryptid5 Thanks!

  • Feel like a robot driving down the highway, bouncing around and listening to this song.

  • muy bien

  • This picture made me have bad things in my Head

    *-°

  • @ichwashere like that time ur uncle touched u ?

  • @ichwashere agree O3O

  • Nihilism never sounded so good.

  • reminds me of some of afrika bambaataa's stuff

  • baszki...hogy ez a kép mennyire nem illik ide. Kicsit más a két hangulat: Beksinski, és az Acid House. Vagy ez a feltöltőt nem zavarta ??

  • this song should be considered an euphoric drug

  • pronunciation: t ɒ l ə m i

  • M0:44AASTERPIECE

  • If your into this kind of music then you might dig my stuff

  • Ptolemy was a greek mathematician, astrologer, astronomer and geographer. he also wrote about music theory and the maths of music.

    cheers wiki

  • @hepalphabet how is Ptolemy pronounced

  • @xbxleex Tall-Emmy

  • sounds like someone breathing through a bong in the background

  • LOL! Eat your heart out Rick Astley!

  • Aphex twin is more of a god than man when you consider what he has done to modern electronic music.

  • My two favorite artists in one video. Aphex Twin & Zdzislaw Beksinski. Great job man.

  • @aikatemm

and apparently, neither do you =]

  • This music is so fantastic, the man's a true genius. Love the "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" album.

  • From 0:00 o :35 I was like "This is not AFX, I can tell", from 0:35 to 0:50 "Well probably it is AFX", after 0:50 i was like "Holy s(h)it, may a bionic DOnkey r(a)pe me, this is AFX!!", I jizzed my pants at some point near the end of the song..... Peace!

  • @bruuuu

start sounds much like DMX crew but 35 plus definetely sounds afx. 50 plus is uberafx

  • @bruuuu We really didn't need to know your body's reaction to hearing this.

  • zdzisiek <3

  • @Intelectual95 Oh, the irony of a person telling us to listen to AFX when we already are. Gets me every time.

  • that "pause" at 0.49 is a pretty nice timed break. simple done. simple things are not easy to do.he knows how he put that break pretty much or not...

his early years have something different than the late releases of course. i like the influence of 80's and 90's in there.

you can "feel" the time it was made at.

  • those 6 people dont know what to appreciate!!!

  • this song goes harder than my penis.

  • HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

  • I came at 0:49. Holy shit, PERFECT.

  • @worldcitizenforever No matter what it is, it still adds to the music, man.

  • My favourite song by Aphex Twin :)

  • i sense some Kraftwerk influence

  • one of those rare tunes... following you all day and night .. ;) Thx for uploading....

  • whata shit

  • Comment removed

  • Who's the art by...?

  • Zdzislaw Beksinski?

  • @cryptid5 yes

  • @cryptid5

YES! thanks for typing up his name, I can't even google this artist because I can't spell his name. It starts with a Z followed by a D and another Z, really, really, really Polish.

  • favourite song on this CD! get some of that bass!

  • amazing, hes just the best

  • @LsnakeM He can hear everything around him in an intense way.

  • I love this song so much, but I feel this way about many of Richards songs.

  • @meamverysmart You cannot simply pick one of them that way.You have to go along gradually in continuous degrees on each one.

  • cool, smooth and inviting.. real chill out.

  • Choice toon!

  • I like the artwork you selected.

  • BEST!

  • 80's were godly back then :D

  • it's the silence between the notes that makes the music

  • sounds like i am in an electric floating cafeteria where you cant walk

  • aphex twin is black

  • What i'd like to know, is what this is an image of.

  • This probly is my favorite Aphex piece. But EVERYTHING this guy touches is gold!

  • amazing how this whole album was made. Essentially done live to cassette tape. Its because of Aphex Twin I left the cold sterile world of softsynths, and bought a real 808, 909, and an xoxbox. Analord :)

  • Cornish Techno House

  • EIGHT OH EIGHT

  • remember me the area 51 and all that secret govern stuff

  • oppss im sorry , i just copy and past wrong , the music tht most make me feel fear:Aphex Twin & Chris Cunningham - Rubber Johnny

  • this is the most make me feel fear :Antoine Lavenant - You are in the Matrix ( the clip)

  • This makes me wanna break dance.

  • Wish I listened to his music many years ago, like 15 years ago. In my teens not in my 20's. Best music then what i have listened to in the past.

  • i can confirm that this song is the shit. x

  • This song is so damn amazing

  • THERES A RIMSHOT TOO, IM STILL RIGHT

  • Comment removed

  • the iconic sound of the 808 rimshot, if you know anything about drum machines than you will recognize it, if you dont, than dont argue with me about it because i know the sound...

  • Thats funny because its actually the cowbell

  • love it....

  • amazing

  • What is the picture of?

Ive been trying to guess...and I thinks its something under a microscope, or a thin strech of leather, and put into greyscale...but I see blue.

    It makes meh crazy!

  • Someone posted a while back that it's a painting by Zdzisław Beksinski.

  • Beverly hills cop on shrooms haha :-)

  • @ClosedUniverse hahaha indeed

  • HOT STUFFFFFFFFF

  • fantastic--havent heard this in years--music of the future from 18 years ago!!

  • @coppull, and it still sounds futuristic, Ive been able to fool many freinds in present day that have never heard of AFX or of the Electronic genre for that matter, (It's the U.S. what can you expect)

    but yes I agree wholeheartedly.

  • BRUTAL

  • i first heard this 17 years ago(ish) , and I would die happy if it were the last thing i heard. the man is a genius

  • Aphex Twin is something you can play and it doesn't grate on you. It feels like the ground is falling beneath you are defying gravity, like the lift off a diving board.

  • i jizzed everywhere

  • This song is magnificent. It helped me splooge

  • that's gross. but thumbs up anyways XD

  • what a feeling of freedom. thats all i feel when i listen to aphex...

  • that silence at 0:49 is simply amazing...

    (just agreeing with poep85)

  • Best use of dead space I have ever heard in a song, probably my favourite part of the song too (although the rest of it kicks ass also)

  • yeah dude. most of his stuff is pretty awesome though...

  • @jamieboyrockon just you and 80 more people

  • that pause at 0:49 really is terribly sexy

  • no i wasn't

  • I was too?

  • i love that album i rock it on the bus

  • wats the album called?

  • Selected Ambient Works.

  • 0:49-0:50 = Greatest moment in music history.

  • I agree

  • like missin a heartbeat!

  • theres a gap

  • Totally agree, a perfectly smooth moment of silence to a new sound in a beat.

    PERFECT.

Making an essay for school about Aphex Twin at the moment.

  • @Vertsk8er419 Funny how a pause can be so defining.

  • @Vertsk8er419 You understand. Well played.

There's three beats in Empirion - Narcotic Influence that do the same for me. And an empty bar of 16 beats in DJ's Take Control by SL2 that's right up there as well.

When you're understated there's no such thing as an overstatement. Respect.

  • @aldhous indeed, it's the silence between the notes that makes the music, my friend.

  • @Vertsk8er419 ?????????????????????????????

  • @Vertsk8er419 What the fuck?

  • @Vertsk8er419 this song is far from afx's best work. Don't get overexcited.

  • looks more like my boss after ive steam rollered him...in my mind that is.

love the tune as much as i hate my boss

  • Oh wow, this is that "bland office/government building" sound i've been looking for 8D

  • amazing tune really funky and thought provoking

  • What IS that thing?

    o;;O

  • some artwork - by Zdzisław Beksinski

  • thanks, just looked into that amazing art.

  • its hairy :o

  • It looks like modified X-ray picture of dead chicken.

  • a frozen chicken

  • this song is wayyy fun on audiosurf audiosurf FTW!!!

  • I don't understand how this generation likes rap when they are missing out on this stuff.

  • I actually really like 'some' hip-hop :D

  • @naumanhumayun Because its the DJ's and artists like Aphex Twin that compose their beats. Its all electronic. But the rappers add their rhymes and call it their song. The REAL unsung heroes behind their music is the electronic artist who push the buttons and turn the nobs to make the rappers who they are. Not their gangster lifestyle.

  • @naumanhumayun me too, but this sort of stuffs a bit better.

  • because rap is the zenith of music. from the early to the mid/late 90's.

  • yeah well it peaked but now it is complete rubbish

  • your so right i agree totaly with you ,this is proper music

  • they dont know better

  • one of the greatest comments ever..! gonna vote for it each and every single day from now on

  • Fucking purists. Aphex Twin is a genius, but hip hop music and culture have their own geniuses as well. Keep an open mind, and you music listening experiences will be much more pleasurable. I promise.

  • variety is the spice of life after all... ;)

  • variety is the spice of life after all!! .... ;)

  • @chromechild88

"but hip hop music and culture have their own geniuses as well...but you won't find those geniuses performing on TV"

    fix'd

  • @chromechild88 exactly.

  • @chromechild88 Perhaps you're thinking of rap artists. Their the ones (most of them) who actually live the stories they write songs about. But hip hop to me is just some one singing off key about how much more money they have then me over a studio beat that they played no part in creating. But then I guess that makes me ignorant right?

  • @me700gnomes of course that makes you ignorant cause hip hop is not rap and rap is not hip hop, hip hop involves a lifestyle, a way of of think and embraces different forms of art : graffiti, beatmaking and rap-"singing", dance.

So the rappers not being involved, and its not as usual as you say it (im at least talking about early ages such Afrika Bambaata), in the music production or beat production is a matter of different skills an artist has.

And don't get me wrong i love afx and im
