You would think a band like Baby Animals would demand a decent sound guy and maybe warm up first. But, hey, great band anyway. They would have gotten a better mix from a Tripple J dude.
I saw them in Paris in I think it was 92. Then had the pleasure of hanging with them during sound check in South Florida in 93 ... Nuno was a twitt but she was awesome. Wondered what happened.
She was hot then and is a MILF now!. *sigh* I saw these guys and Screaming Jets on a stinking hot arvo in Fremantle many moons ago, organizers pumping water on the sweaty crowd, Dave from SJ was going off and we were just mesmerized as Suzy belted out aint gonna get my love tonight. what a night
Suzie's voice is stronger now, more controlled, but not surprisingly she's lost that hard nervous edge that made the B/animals so good the first time round. She says she had to take some drugs to calm her down. I remember seeing her at Mt Smart Supertop and the sound fucked up, as it often did back then, and she ploughed through with an impromptu jazz/blues number no trouble. Ditch the drugs and do it cold, suzie.
Their music is hard to find in the US unless it is an import. I was lucky enough to get most of it downloaded online though. Can't get Telelove unless I pay tons for it!
Saw them live back in the 90s in Newcastle Australia..one of the best rock shows Ive ever been to. Hey madjik25, youre bang on target with the comment my friend!!
I was in a band called savage cuts and opened for the baby animals at the royal derby in melbourne. This was just prior to their debut album. You could just tell they were headed for great things...then they had bad management and she met Nuno!..Suzie is so underatted...note to all you female watered down posers..this is how you do it.
Well it was more the bad management really. They signed to a french label i think. imago and it went bust. Legal hassles followed. Relationships can kill any band.she wanted kids.she went to the us.not many women who front rock bands can pull it off,she can.they toured with van halen, she punched out chris robinson from the black crowes! To all you muso's who want to show us how smart you are commenting on time signatures, if it's that easy..go do it!
@madjik25 yeah you're dead right dude, i was in the music industry for 20 years and i look back at the old baby animals footage and know straight away that suze was pure world class quality as a frontwoman. she should have been a superstar, there's no doubt in my mind
Yeah Quo is the worst. ACDC a bit guilty too. but Baby animals are also offenders.
I guess its acceptable when you have a good sound as they all do. (And actually it's often a superficial thing - to a casual observer - but when you really start listening there are great subtelties that make them diffferent - so its all good.)
Inevitable consequence of using the same instruments all the time, and sticking to a standard 4/4 time signature.
In the 90s and early Naughties, a lot of groups experimented with crazy arse time signatures, like 5/8, or 7/8. That seems to change the flavour a fair bit .e.g. Spoon Man, and My Wave by Soungarden.
yeah - ive heard alternative time sigs - never seemed to make a real differece to the quality - more a gimmick i thought - but still u may be right - im reading slasjes autobio at the moment and he says its hard to find original stuff and when he thinks he does he inspects closer and it rehash of already done stuff - so hed rather listen to the original.
Is it actually possible that there aren't many ideas left? I dont think so. I really dont think so.
Anyone who makes a big deal about Time signatures has a very limited idea about groove. Money by Pink Floyd is7/4, Master of Puppets has mixed 8/8, and 7/8 riffs throughout.Unless you are trying to learn the song .you'd never even suspect they were there. Greek .Arabic,Turkish and other Middle Eastern and Indian music are full of odd signatures.I play greek and most of the beats we use are 9/4,7/8,5/8,and 9/8. When the groove is happening I don't even realise what the time signature is.
@mallamoozoo Not every song sounds the same but this one is close to "Rush you". Anyway Baby Animals are great animals, Suze has an amazing voice and is so hot on stage !
Love it! For years, I searched for Baby Animals material & finally, they're back!! I lived in Australia in '92 & '93, when you seemed to hear Baby Animals everywhere! Thanks for posting!
Have to tell you... they're back alright, and are as great as ever. !!
Was one of the lucky ones to see them at the Metro in Sydney last month. It was one hell of an AWESOME gig.
Suze, the band, Nuno joined in...awesome, and a surprise guest, one of my all time favorite aussie icons... Richard Clapton, all shared the stage. You can't ask for better than that.
She went to the US and had kids which is why the bands back together now.. Damn I can't beleive I missed out on the concerts.. 1 played the other day and there was 0 promotion for it.. I only found it on the ticket site..
those of you with access to the Baby Animals, PLEEAAASE tell them they need to come to the UK. Been a huge fan for years but the get zero promotion here in the UK.
I've come here to tell everyone that my band will be supporting The Baby Animals on April 12th at Hallam. I'm pumped as..they're so frickin awesome and if anyone wants a ticket..give me a hoi. I've got 100 of them right here.
First time I heard her was in "God Took A Picture". I can't think of a single song where she sings poorly...

what makes Suze is the fact that she does not hold back. 100% effort every note.
although standing next to those two makes her seem a little duminutive... (small girl, BIG voice)
