in the bible death is often called "sleeping" especially when the dead person in question has some link to God, I.E a prophet, a king, one of Gods children (which can be a Hebrew, or a saved person.. which is someone who has accepted the blood atonement for sin, which is God the son.

Lazarus was dead in the tomb for 3 days before Jesus resurrected him.

Lazarus is a man in the bible, who died, completley, was wrapped in burial cloth, and sealed away in a tomb, but Jesus Christ called him out by name, and he was resurrected simply by the will of the Lord. I am ghost is taking this story and reinventing it, in this case, Lazarus "sleeps" a biblical term in this instance meaning "is dead" anywho, Lazarus is perceived as a vampire, a living dead.
