@luno44 . Yes but the official explanation does not fit DS9's statement. There was a viral out break that could only be destroyed if their genetic make up was altered to be more human. Dr. Flocks from the R-Enterprise discovered the cure and altered the Klingons' looks. But wait did not Worf say "We don't discus it with outsiders"? And Flocks had reported it to Starfleet so why did the others not know? I hate "Enterprise".

@luno44 In an Enterprise episode they explain it as a disease that came from Klingons experimenting with human genetic augment genomes which caused the afflicted survivors to have no ridges, a trait which they passed on to what is now a large minority of the Klingon population, those with no ridges.
