hi sir i have a XP SP3 OS disk and i tried using it on my cousins computer then when i hit 100% of formatting it said disk damaged and that the formatting was no complete so is my disk broken or is it the HD..
i wanna test it on my computer but i have only 1 HD 40gigz so can i back up my OS on D drive then install my disk and if its broken use my old OS?
It means the cd is damaged. This could just mean its dirty (hopefully) Look to see if there are in fingermarks on it.Wipe it with a damp towel or cloth and try again. good luck
Yes "backup stuff" means any photos.music, video or docuements etc you want to keep. Listen I REAlY suggest you find a friend with a bit more PC knowledge to assist you.
what the ... i have a Dell demension 3000 computer i got long ago. I have to reformat it because its starting to run slow all these years. But i have to press F12 to get into BIOS.
and what does the reformatting CD look like? is it purple?
and what does the reformatting CD look like? is it purple? ...This rings Alarm bells! ...good on you for having a go but I have a feeling your out of your depth.
Best way to find out if you have the right disc is PUT IT IN THE CD TRAY! & see if its the XP disc .Also you need to get the Audio & Video drivers for your motherboard ..goodluck! Remember to backup your stuff 1st!
2: or you can go to a torrent site & d/ll a copy.If you choose this path, you will also need an activation crack (if you are using that pc to go o/l) which you can also d/l.
Yes you can install any OS on your pc as long as your hardware specs match up. Example: Vista is more resource hungry and prefers min 1 gig memory where as XP will get by on 500mg memory. so google the OS you want to install and check the min required specs 1st. I personly have partitioned my drive and have a dual boot of XP & Vista (soon to be updated to windows 7 by me)
You probably have a Sata drive & with SATA drives, you have to load drivers so the setup can recognize the hard disk drives. Look for a message like : "Press F6 to load..." I forgot the whole message. Press F6 and then you will have to press 'S' to search for drivers on externals disks. You should have SATA drivers ready on some external disk or a floppy disc.
if this is to baffling for you, seek out an I.T. person to help.
hey..after the cd runs and loads all the files it needs it says "setup is starting windows". i reformatted countless times before and it worked..but the more recent formats.... it doesn't load after that appears. the cd stops moving and it's stuck there.. any solutions ? thanks =]
i was trying to install windows onto a new harddrive.. it didn't "work" so i put my working hdd in and it wouldn't boot past the initial windows xp splash screen... so it's stuck between that and the welcome screen and it's black O_O... / i'll clean my discs up right now and see if that helps
I assume that your h/d is a sata drive. Another thing to keep in mind in terms of "getting ready" for the reinstall of windows is to make sure you have the SATA controller driver on a floppy disk prior to starting. With my motherboard, for example, I need the Silicon Image 3112 driver on disk in order for windows to recognize any of the disks on the SATA controller during installation. If you don't know what I mean then you need expert help as it can be a bit tricky
I am unsure what you mean by HD drivers, Is it HD audio or hard drive drivers? any way type into google the name of the missing drivers and you should find a link.On most occasions, it's only the audio and video drivers that need to be installed after formatting. These are on your motherboard disc.
If you dont have the disc, type into google the name of your Motherboard + drivers.then d/l & install. goodluck
..i have a question ..i have 4 partitions on my hard drive ..if i want to re-install windows xp an reformate only 1 partition (c) (that has the previous windows xp on it) ..an preserve the other 3 partitions so that i don't lose the files on them..
then what should i do ..? should i delete partition (c) an create a new one ..or just click Enter to install the new windows xp on it ..?
If your copy of XP is not genuine, you can still do the install, just if you go o/line, TURN OFF auto updates and NEVER do any windows updates.Or,there are validation patches available on most Torrent sites
I can't believe that you didnt type into google "formatting tablet laptops without cd driver".......I did! & guess what? Shitloads of info.....GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND
Thank you, I really got this one, now i can reformat any computer, BTW, how can I reformat 2 computers at the time with 1 OS and how can I save all my drivers without the original CD.
You will have to make a backup of original disc if you need to reformat 2 machines at the same time and type into google the name & model of your motherboard, add "+ drivers" then you can d/l all the drivers. Same if you have a vid & audio card
how come wen i enter advance i dont get the list and im useing xp and it just shows a who bunch of stuff but it has a boot page and i dont know what to do after that? but lists the drives( i think there drives) and shows in this order
1.removable
2.ide hard drive
3.atapi cd-rom
4.other boot
then after thos i have a choice to disable or etc... im lost can you help?
THis is my first time reformatting my pc. ok so i know that you should back up files but i wanna know what files you must backup. do you backup internet explorer? or something like that?
yes you can. I have my drive partitioned and have both XP & vista installed. You can also access any of the files from one to the other without rebooting.Handy if you are slack at backing up & 1 OS crashes or gets a virus
yes you need the xp disc, It never ceases to amaze me how many people throw away their recovery discs. You can d/l a copy from any of the torrent sites
I have some stuff saved on my hard drive and I have Vista. I want to get XP. Is there a way that I do not have to erase my hard drive to get XP? Also, what version of XP runs the fastest (I do not care about features and programs)? Thanks a lot in advance.
I suggest you invest in an external drive to transfer your vista files or burn to disc as a backup.XP is a great os tho 2000 is also good if your resouces r limited & dont play pc games
Yes its the same for all Operating Systems. That is make sure that the bios is set to boot from cd then put in your disc and reboot and follow the prompts
Yes reformatting wipes off every program & file you had on the hard drive. After the format, you have a fresh start just like it was wHen you got it out of the shop.
U then re-install programs and the files you(hopefully) BACKED UP
i have some questions? ive seen sum1 who are installing windows xp and windows 98 when reformatting a pc. so what's the purpose of that? what is a service pack? is it another program/software to be installed after installing the OS? does windows XP Pro & Home have versions? if so, what is the latest version of windows xp? thanx for this vid & sorry for my english!!!
The main reason for reformatting is when you pc is so slow and has lots of errors and things don't work as well as they should. Service packs are updates from Microsoft and vary from security updates to stop hackers to updates so certain software works better. You can get these from the Microsoft site.(Click your start button and u will see an icon "Windows Update". SP3 is the latest for XP tho this is in beta stage so I suggest sp2 until sp3 is proven
your answer is here : copy and paste this into google "Setting the Phoenix PC BIOS to boot from CD" I can't post the link myself as u tube won't allow web addresses to be posted
i'm getting the error: "Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it's properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer."
And i'm in need of some help.. i've done all the things it says to do.. and it still won't let me get to the first step of the refomat... any suggestions u have would be lovely.. thank you.
I am unfamiliar with this error so I suggest you reboot and try and when you get to the partion bit....do a FULL rather than a quick reformat. Other than that maybe your hard drive is fried.
go into safe mode(f8 wen rebooting when bios starts and b4 windows logo screen)
your Ethernet driver will be on your mother board disc. If you dont have it, google the manufacture of your board and model no to d/l the driver. Also audio and video drivers if you dont have discs
Either back them up on disc (eg burn to a blank dvd with dvd burner) or a usb stick if not to many files or my personal favorite, an external or another hard drive if you have more than one on your machine
With a "quick reformat"there is no error checking. With a regular format, the entire disk is checked for bad sectors. With a quick format, this check is skipped.
defragging is not the solutions to all things tho it wont affect your Ram.The only other thing I can suggest is make sure your copy of the cd is scratch and dirt free. If it has finger marks on it, wipe clean with a damp towel.
What do you do if your PC came with windows xp? I don't have a CD Rom of Windows XP since it came with my computer. Do I gotta buy or is there another way?
If you bought the pc, it should come with an copy of XP. If no disc was provided it may have a recovery system built in where you need to create a boot disc from "Recovery Disc" section. finally you can always d/l a version from one of the torrent sites
thanks helped a lot but i have a dell and it's easier to change to boot to disk, at startup i just have to press f12 and i can change bootsetup right there easily, f12 = boot setup changes, thx 4 tut
As I replied to decimuscarrerus (person above your question) The same answer applies to you. Also you need to to do it in the few seconds that THE SCREEN TURNS BLACK during the bootup stage. It may take you a few goes till you get the knack. Good luck
Press F1, F2, in some cases F12, (This applies to original factory mother board made) like HP, Dell, etc. If you have an HP you will see a blue screen with the HP logo on the center when you turn on the PC. And it will tell you to press F1 to go to the set-up screen (BIOS). Some other home made PC don't have the company logo, they just turn on with a black screen and white letters. In these kinds of mother board you do have to press "Delete" to enter the set-up screen.
but i tried this before. i got a few errors while delete the previous partition :( some files couldnt be delete i think.... and my only options were "ignore it" "try again" but still didnt work and exit "exit" :(
yes this will work for home.Same procedure and the delete only took a second on the tutorial cause I PAUSED the vid to make it shorter. Formating speed will depend on the speed of your pc
Yes, it is mentioned in the tutorial to down load any drivers you need if you do not have original motherboard software .
Also you need audio and if you have a video card the drivers for these as well.
I find it best to d/l latest drivers anyway.

As I replied to decimuscarrerus (person above your question) The same answer applies to you. Also you need to to do it in the few seconds that THE SCREEN TURNS BLACK during the bootup stage. It may take you a few goes till you get the knack. Good luck

ok i tried pressing the delete button several times but nothing happened can you tell me why?

Press F1, F2, in some cases F12, (This applies to original factory mother board made) like HP, Dell, etc. If you have an HP you will see a blue screen with the HP logo on the center when you turn on the PC. And it will tell you to press F1 to go to the set-up screen (BIOS). Some other home made PC don't have the company logo, they just turn on with a black screen and white letters. In these kinds of mother board you do have to press "Delete" to enter the set-up screen.

Different PC Models can use a different key to enter the bios. Type into google Access/Enter Motherboard BIOS and find the command applicable to you

have you tried to delete these files manually b4 formating? because you shouldn't see any errors when formating
Romancingdashadow 4 years ago
but i tried this before. i got a few errors while delete the previous partition :( some files couldnt be delete i think.... and my only options were "ignore it" "try again" but still didnt work and exit "exit" :(

and also. when you're deleted the partition. (however u spell it) it only takes a second?
1337Wanderman 4 years ago
yes this will work for home.Same procedure and the delete only took a second on the tutorial cause I PAUSED the vid to make it shorter. Formating speed will depend on the speed of your pc
Romancingdashadow 4 years ago
