  • And I love Fry's American accent. XD It's so typical.

Laurie's is a little more accurate, but it slips here and there.

  • "The buck stops at my ass."

I want that on my desk. XD

  • If there's any americans here, can you tell me who did the american accent better? It's my opinion that Hugh Laurie's american accent is amazing in House, not so much here.

  • "Smart....aleck."

  • @trufflesthemushroom haha exactly! : )

  • mmm.. NICE ASS!

  • ♫"your ass is my ass, my ass is your ass, from california, to the new york island..."♪

    sorry, i couldn't help myself : )

  • @thrumymind From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters, this ass was made for you and me?

  • YOU BET YER ASS MY ASS

  • Take a shot every time they say ass. Safety not guaranteed.

  • I laughed like a moron when he said "Nobody likes a smart Alec."

  • "Don't be a smart Alec." Ahahahahahahaha.

  • I' sort o half wtching Glee, and I finished watching this and went straight into a bit where a character said "ass" three times in one sentence.

  • Wow, the noise he makes when he comes in DX

  • They said ass. Teehee.

  • 7 persons have an ass instead of a brain. This sketch is one of the best !

  • Dr. House has been owned.

  • Is there any part of this that doesn't sound gay?

  • Pretty funny caricatures (not "typical" as someone posted). Sorry to my Brit friends, but the accents do give them away. They drift out of them often enough that it actually makes the sketch funnier.

  • Nobody likes a smart...alec:)))))))

  • 'the buck stops at my ass'..'my ass is on the line.the bottom line'

  • 'the buck stops at my ass'..

  • LOL I love his blinds.

  • smart alec it seems!! ha ha ha

  • lolz. it took me a while to figure out they were making fun of the overuse of the word "ass" in America. I guess it's true then. As an American, the word is so frequently used, it's almost unnoticed when it's said.

  • Im American, and I fucking love this sketch its so true we do refer to our Asses quite a bit

  • lmao he sucked at the accent then thats hilarious

  • smart Alec! LOL :)

  • Stephen's playing a typical US officer is beyond perfection ahaha :P It is absolutely one of my favorite sketches by F&L

  • Oh, my God at the shades! I wouldn't be surprised if half the people I know have shades just like that, especially with Independence Day coming up :) .

Now what I really want to know is: was there a bum in the bag, or a donkey in the duffel?

    -IMP ;) :)

    he's good at accents

  • - You'r ass, sir?

    - You bet your ass, my ass!

  • lol, yeah, that's the best one :D

  • It's hilarious to see how the brits make fun of us yanks. And the accents are just off enough to sound completely unconvincing and hilarious.

  • DAMN!! I didn't notice it was Stephen until there was a closeup!!! They're so good with accents :D

  • "Sir, how does my ass fit into all of this?" ROFL-FUCKIN-MAO!!! Hahahahah

  • this is beyond hilarious..... i love both of them.... and i'm not offended at all (jus thought i'd mentioned that..)

  • I'm an American, and this is hysterical. Not to mention, their accents are very impressive.

  • "No one likes a smart alec."

  • I want shades like that!

  • the word ass is said 33 times

  • you counted?!

  • reminds me of Top Gun

  • " The buck stops at my ass "

  • Hilarious! Thanks for posting! I don't know if we Americans overuse the word _ass_, but this was quite funny.

  • You bet your ass! My ass! Hahaha!!!

    Smart....alec!

  • OMG, the 'American Flag' blinds was hilarious!

  • It's true! Americans really do overuse the word "ass".

  • Hugh Laurie already has an amazing American accent.

  • Lol! We really do kinda talk that don't we? Well, except for that part with the bag; I didn't get it. Still funny overall though. And the blinds, haha.

  • hahahahah

i have never seen a better depiction of my country in my LIFE

  • i've never seen us do a better depiction of your country :P

although i think stephen's accent kept slipping a little XD

  • Hilarious! best in years!

  • No you don't!

  • Very good, like the over the top American accents, Not sure what part of the Country that would be from. I am a Midwesterner and it doesn't sound like it is from this area. Loved the American Flag blinds just briliiant

  • Its TEXAS!

  • Im from Texas and I sound NOTHING like that... you must mean Alabama...

  • well maybe, but my cousins are from Texas and they sound like that a little. Lets just call it the mid west.

  • these guys are just too funny. it's a shame their show was never aired in Canada.

  • I wish more Americans were like the people posting below instead of the "USA NUMBER ONE!!!" brigade. They make me cringe.

  • I love how Hugh Laurie even stand like a fopp ^.^

  • I'm an American. I also have a sense of humor. The way you hear some people talk, it's surprising the world doesn't think the two things are mutually exclusive.

  • I dunno...I'm American, & I think this sketch is fall-down funny! "Ass" strikes me as a much funnier word than "arse", and they're simply going to town with it!

  • This sketch is brilliant, thanks for uploading it.

  • wow, practically flawless stereotypical american accents.

    "nobody likes a smart... alec."

  • This is kinda funny.. not really how americans are though..

  • Hahaha, very funny! Hugh is absolutly adorable in this one! I'm a Canadian...so I really have nothing to do with this pointless rant below my comment...

  • Ha!

    This is absolutely beautiful!!

I have been saying for several years that Americans are absolutely obsessed with "asses", especially when men are talking about other men.

I mean, one of the greatest compliments one American man can give to another is to call him "Badass".

You Yanks just love your asses!;-)

  • 32 times xD ASS

  • haha the blinds in the background:)

  • grow up, its just satire,

youre making an ass out of yourself

  • You're lucky he hasn't figured out how to spell "Dutch" yet, or else you and all your country men and women would be taunted quite horrifically by Monsignor Zappa!

He might have said that "everyone from the Netherlands is a bum-arse!" or "Those lowlanders can kiss my ass!" or "I'll ass all those Dutch asses right in the ass, if they don't watch their ass, the assholes!"

  • Yes, it's ridiculous, clearly Yanks never use the word ass.

  • Hehe, you're lovely, our Franky!

I love Zappa for this post.

Cheer up, mate but before you do, give us another jingoistic, anti-British post. I'm sure I'm not the only Brit here who would love to read more of your opinions on us.

  • Fry's American accent is really very good, but it just sounds so wrong!

  • HA HA! Oh, even has a right-wing American jingoist, I have fallen in love with this piece of satire. This is fucking hilirous, and if you disagree with me, you sir are worse than Hitler.

  • I knew Laurie had a good American accent, but I'm quite impressed with Fry's!

  • Ste's Yank accent is much better than Hugh's, here.

Have you ever heard Hugh's song "America"? You might like to have a listen to that. Search YouTube for "Fry Laurie America" and you should be able to find it easily enough. It is from A Bit of Fry and Laurie and it is Hugh playing piano, singing his generic, stereotypical American ballad, before Ste, as is his wont, decides to chin him.

  • I have, yes, and found that quite enjoyable.

  • Any thoughts? As Yanky Doodle Dan?

Or do you rightly (talk about a leading question!!) just see it as a piece of comedy, that while has a base in reality, is exaggerated for comedic value?

I ask only because some of my American friends were quite upset by it. Most of my American friends found it really funny and said it was spot on, but maybe a quarter took it too seriously.

  • Americans never cease to astonish me!

I will argue to the death with a Brit or European who tells me Americans are stupid, because many Americans I know (including a part of my family in NYC) really are some of the most intelligent, witty and funny people I know, but some of them occasionally refuse to see comedy when it is pointed in their direction, like this video for example.

It is like they think themselves too high and mighty for satire and instead of a gag in friendship and fondness...

  • They see it as something obscene and disgusting. As though America is THE one pure country that should be beyond jokes.

Maybe that comes from stating their allegiance to the flag each morning, since they were able to talk. I dunno.

I hope you don't think I am generalising, as I said, all the Americans I know are amazing people and I love them! But they really seem to take themselves and their country too seriously.

Sorry for being so long winded but have you any thoughts?

  • I see this sketch, and the America song, as satire. I have the same view of the Kicking Ass song that they did... all of them are funny, and while the last song does remind me a bit too much of some of my state politicians, they're good bits. There's really nothing about which one should be upset.

  • You're right, Americans aren't generally stupid, or at least not any more stupid than the average person in the world. I won't deny that we've got our fair share of idiots, too, but it's really not such a bad place. The pledge is a bit weird, and I personally stopped saying it when I was in the 10th grade (now I am a college sophomore) but I think the idea that the US is somehow infallible comes more from an ignorance of history and the world around us all than from fifteen seconds of talk.

  • I'm really not sure why some of my countrymen take America's role in the world so seriously... we do happen to be a superpower, but that shall fade in time, and it doesn't mean that the world revolves around us anyway.

  • Are you kidding? I love watching people make fun of my country! I do sometimes wish, though, that we could do it to others without having to worry about being tarred with the same brush as some of our particularly ethnocentric countrymen.

  • You're absolutely welcome to do it, Approximatelyjane, I have a sense of humour, you can mock the Queen, our food, our weather, anything you like. I certainly don't have any problem with anyone laughing at my own country too, it's a good thing not to take yourselves too seriously.

  • @AlexisCapri well on that case- harhar just kidding. now, you dont absolutely hate the french, now do you?

  • @AlexisCapri Humour is the only thing the British take seriously.

  • @mwmalecky And tea.

  • @MrSoupKing and football

  • @ApproximatelyJane Oh, yeah, I'm american too, but I love this kind of thing as well.

  • @ApproximatelyJane I think i's great when people do it properly. the Simpsons and Family guy fail because, like a lot of americans, they have no idea abou outside their country and have no frame of reference

  • I've counted. They use 'ass' no less than 33 times. I love this sketch so much!

  • HAHAHAHA classic

  • "Jacobson." "Yes, Sir?" "Shut your ass... no one likes a Smart Aleck." XDDD Love it.
