  • this game is awesome but the ending,THE ENDING makes this game epic!!

  • wow, what the fuck...

  • Guys, Monkey Island was meant to be a trilogy, just like Star Wars. But then Ron Gilbert left LucasArts and his project was interrupted. Ron has repeated many times that he would love to make his Monkey Island 3 and tell the real story, what was in his head. He said he would call it Monkey Island 3a. You can google all this. He even has his own blog where he has mentioned all this. The story doesn't end here and what came next (new games) wasn't of Gilbert's taste.

  • lol mind fuck

  • "Lost Parents" HAHAHAHAA

  • This is the best ending ever! I like Guybrush stabbing the voodoo doll.

  • I love the ending. It turns out that all this was just two kids playing pirates in a amusement park. But then they added awesome twist at the end.Epic game.

  • @ronackostolomac

    So many twists.

LeChuck is Guybrush's brother, What a twist!

They are just kids playing in a amusement park. What a twist!

Actually no neither of those things is true it's all a spell by LeChuch. What a twist?

    Or is it?

    Yes probably.

  • @WhimsicalQuandary hehe Nice to see someone else got it ;D

  • ok... that ending was completely awful

  • Why can't I beat this game?

I pull the elevator lever and the door doesn't close all the way for some reason, I have all the other stuff I need but I don't have the beard (because the door won't close).

  • Anyway, this is the first adventure game I've ever played and finished (with some walktrough at the end). At the time I wondered why wasn't this made with stop-motion gfx like Mortal Kombat, LeChuck could have been much more scary as a photographed horror puppet, and I appreciated MI2 as a humorous horror game. Now I don't think that. Best adventure game franchise ever made!

  • Oh I didn't read the comments on the previous pages...

  • Did anybody notice that (even if it looks like that Guybrush defeated LeChuck) LeChuck won the game. Big Whoop (well, claiming it as a treasure) was just a TRAP! LeChuck cursed Guybrush and lured him into the carnival of the damned. MI3 reveals everything if we listen carefully (I don't know what Ron Gilbert originally wanted, he kept it as secret, and he was not already at LucasArts when developing MI3). And as Elaine says "I hope LeChuck hasn't cast a horrible SPELL over him or anything..."

  • what is this I don't even

  • ENDING SUCKS I HATE IT SOO MUCH CAUSE IT RUINS THE WHOLE GAME!!!

AGGH FEELS LIKE PART OF MY LIFE HAS BEEN TAKING OFF!

  • Best characters

    Best music

    Best story

    Best plot

    Best game of all times!

  • What was the inflated balloon and gloves for?

  • @Reavenk Um... an Achevement on X360 version? Creepythat creators knew the future.

  • i rember the ending i was like WTF

  • I love this game ever since i was a little lad and the ending makes me sad for some reason (that's the good type of sad). Also what's that music call when your exploring the circus? (when your making the voodoo doll)

  • Awesome end to an awesome pair of games. I see this as the real end to the story. Like I prefer how for ex. The Terminator ended as a stand alone film. Not saying I hate the newer games, I did enjoy them too, just... This is the REAL end and it rules supreme.

  • @Fistwagon Actually Ron Gilbert wanted to make Monkey Island 3.

    7:57 means something...

  • @ProkoLokor means they were on something while making the ending

  • White slavers? This game is amazing, and having played it for the first time recently, it was definitely a great experience.

  • Was this entire game a dream????

  • @Ratboy123465

No, he did plan a MI3. He had some kind of plan for it written down, but allegedly they are lost.

I am personally starting to believe more and more this theory that Big Whoop is another strange dimension. That LeChuck sent them both to a dimension where they are brothers, and they are in a Disneyland-like place.

Doesn't really explain the grog machine, Melée Island alley, Walt's appearance, the dream Guybrush had earlier about his parents and other stuff though.

  • Coccaine is a hell of a drug.

  • @Xunkun what does that have to do with monkey island lol

  • @Negative365 If ya have ta ask, heh~

  • I liked the ending but I wish they continued the story in the third.

What happened to the whole brother thing in the third/fourth/fifth? I mean it just makes the rest of the series not make sense at all.

  • @inabeautifulplace

I think the 3th and 4th pretty much explained it as LeChuck doing a spell on Guybrush to think he was his brother and in a carnival, while it was just a spell by LeChuck all along. While I am not a huge fan of the CMI treatment, I disagree with the assertion that they ignored it completely though. They just did it quite uninteresting and quite sloppy. CMI was more about the humor of MI.

  • Its basically a honor to star wars , but I wonder what could have happened if Ron Gilbert stayed to create the rest of the series.

  • The best game ever made........

  • Love it. Love the ending. Let's wait for Special Edition then! It would be TOTALLY awesome! Just imagine - Amazing Characters, Storyline and Graphics...

  • I've seen someone reiview this game and said that this game had an ending to ensure no more sequels.

I thought he was lying, since MI3&4 had to come from somewhere.

I guess I was completely wrong.

  • I will say that it is a pretty open ending no matter how you approach it.

Chuckie's evil glare at the player and the bit after the credits with Elaine being worried over Guybrush's fate is a couple of pretty big sequel hooks.

  • Ok, i am suprised shitless at the most random ending twist i ever heard.

  • I don't really understand why people dislike the third game. Sure I understand people disliking the fourth, but I honestly thought the curse did a lot of good things for the series as it really pulled the monkey island story together. Tales is also turning out to be a very interesting story that I can't wait to see how it unfolds.

  • It's the same reason why some people think the original Half Life is better than Half Life 2. I personally loved the third game.

  • As I've seen, there are a lot of people who like Curse, mostly those who haven't played the rest. It's a good game, great in fact. Just not as good. And it DOES kiiiind of ruin the ending. But hey, I only call Escape the stain on the perhaps most flawless game series ever.

  • @TandemTopiary People who dislike the third game are Ron Gilbert purists, which is actually stupid, given that Ron Gilbert himself loved the third game. The design was great and the voices were well picked.

Still I like better the second game. And this ending is the best ending ever in the history of video games.

  • @Derdoppelgaenger why is it the best ending?

  • @Bobban I love it, it subverts everything in the past two games and is open to interpretation. And it's a riddle game, so I love the idea that the ending is one final riddle. It's like, "the game itself is a huge question mark". There will never be any ending like this. Most games are just so predictable. I remember finishing this game and I was so shocked for the rest of the day. This game is the "Planet of the Apes" of video games. And I have my own idea of what Big Whoop is...

  • @Derdoppelgaenger I agree that most games are predictable, but that does not always have to be a bad thing. Ok... so you're not actually supposed to fully understand the ending. I see... well its an awesome game. I love it. But monkey 3 is a tiny tad better. Would you mind telling me what your idea of what Big Whoop is?

  • @Bobban Sure. I'm sure a lot of people won't agree with me though, but even if it's not what Gilbert initially meant, I love to think that possessing Big Whoop is being the guy behind the video game and have absolute power over the players. I don't think it's a literal ending. Anyway that's the way I see it. Guybrush looking for Big Whoop/looking for the meaning of his life (which is being a puppet). Some people might think I'm going too far here, but that's what i like to think Big Whoop is.

  • @Derdoppelgaenger I like your theory.

  • @Bobban

um, lechuck explained what big whoop is in monkey 3. whoever opens it gets the powers of hell.

  • @Derdoppelgaenger Actually, you know what's funny? After letting the idea sit, I've come to realize that Curse has a whole lot of problems and I can see why people dislike it. And it's not just because RON GILBERT MASTER RACE. I still enjoyed playing Curse though. Just not really the great game I sorta thought it was.

Also Tales turned out to be pretty awesome.

  • say what you want, this ending is amazing.

  • Really? When? All I can remember is the waterfall.

  • I prefer the first MI ending, absolutely.

  • the best game serial ever!

  • LOL Star Wars references XD

  • It would have been better if they ended the series with this game....In my opinion

  • I agree it would definitely have been better, but the games probably gathered a large number of fans demanding more...

  • wha--

    huh

    what in the

    bwuh?

  • MUST GO play this series again... right now! Loving the new Tales of MI but nothing beats the ol' classics.

  • It is obvious what happens here. It is a dream.

When Guybrush fell he hit his head and got unconcious, just like happened before in the tree.

In his previous dream there were his dead parents. Just like in this one. You can see Walt the dog take Le Chuck's arm. The underground tunnels look like those under Ron's house. The park looks to be in Booty Island and you get to visit Melee Island too. You can see one guy which took the box to Le Chuck's fortress.

All this juxtaposion show it's a dream

  • Assuming this is correct, the conversation Guybrush and Chuckie have at the end [about the toy or whatever] must be a "recent" conversation playing over in Guybrush's mind as he is slowly coming round??? A bit like this fantasy world Guybrush has been dreaming merging with reality?

Sorry if I sound confusing haha

  • Personally, I like to think that Guybrush was always a child, running around, just imagining being a pirate. It makes sense, with all the small glimpses of reality he has ie the phone booth. He s in the park and his childlike imagination lets him think ''Big whoop'' is a treasure, not a theme park. He go's missing while ''pirating'' the 3 islands(Areas of the park) and his parents send (Le)chuckie to stop him and Guybrush see's him as ''Evil'' for trying to stop his fun.

  • There was a website dedicated to that theory. It had a lot of evidence. Like all the "future things" like vending machines and all.

  • yea and the barkeep at the beginning tells him that he cant have grog cause hes too young

  • @funkymonk2k8 yep, I had the same thought after playing the second game.. but it would not explain the ending of the final game of the series... They should have normally reveal the secret if there was any.. ain't it?

  • @funkymonk2k8 how do you explain Elaine?

  • I'm sorry, but Ron Gilbert isn't Monkey Island. Remember, there were three people who created the first game. I understand that Ron came up with the original idea. But still.

Anyway, I thought they did a good job with CMI dealing with the ending of MI:2.

And the new Tales of Monkey Island is quite good so far.

  • You´re totally right OptimusNiaa.

There were many people who worked at this great games. Ron Gilbert was one of them, but some people are acting like he was the only person who made MI.

The intro in MI 3 fits perfectly in my opinion. LeChuck put some sort of spell on Guybrush, to hold him inside the carnival "Big Whoop" forever. As you can see in the intro of MI 3 he is in a bumber car. LeChuck even says "I don´t know how you escaped my carnival of the damned"

  • Yes, but exactly how Guybrush escaped or why he's in the middle of the ocean on the bumper car is never explained. It just feels like a huge hole in the story they just couldn't be arsed to write, even as a flash back or anything

  • Wll that is true, but there are so many things that are unrealistic and unexplained. It´s a video game.

  • yeah but it makes no sence for the rest of the series.

  • at the end you see elaine and she says: 'i hope lecuck hasn't cast some horrible SPELL over him or anything'

  • Did you see what Elaine said at the end, and the emphasis on "trick" when she said it? (See the end credits.)

    You can see it here:

    v=nUb8BXL8xWU#t=7m56s

Ron Gilbert (designer and creator of MI) said there was a third planned when he came up with the game. I bet it'll be awesome. (Note to universe: please bless us with the original, Ron Gilbert version of Monkey Island 3, even if that means it has to be Monkey Island 5.)

  • Oops, Elaine says "SPELL" not "trick."

  • Looks like you got your wish! Tales of monkey island is monkey island 5, ron was a consultant on it

  • I LOVED monkey island 3 however. So why the hate?

  • It was never meant to. Ron Gilbert, the creator of the first two Monkey Island games, had nothing to do with the sequels.

  • its never really explained but im pretty sure it was just an illusion by lechuck, then he noticed and got away.

  • See an alternate ending to this on my channel!

  • This ending still creeps me out. It reminds me alot of Twin Peaks.

  • How's Annie?

  • : O

  • so I dont understand... monkey island 3 beggins with guybrush in the middle of the ocean in a strange car from an amusement park but... its supposed he's imaging it?

someone please explain it to me

  • Comment removed

  • I see... that makes more sense

  • They didn't completely ditch it in the sense that the curse of Big Whoop, as shown in CMI (where Lechuck turns you\Guybrush into a kid, and the Island at that time looks like an amusement park) is intended as a partial and vague explanation for the ending of Monkey Island 2. It seemed an error of judgement to me since some creative writing and thinking outside the square could have embraced it fully as a part of the game and added new dimensions to explore the series from.

  • Comment removed

  • Totally agree. I thought the ending to Monkey Island 2 was awesome; totally unexpected and creative. Then what do they do with Monkey Island 3? Just pretend more or less like it never happened. Lame.

  • In the begining of monkey 3 he talks about his time there and he's in a bumper car ride, signifying he left an amusement part :P

Plus they return to big whoop the amusement park later

  • Didn't someone during the game explain that big woop can send you to another world? So when Guybrush finds treasure it actually only sends him to another world or dimension. The elevator takes him to other worlds, like melee island. So the entire ending takes place in another dimension. So maybe the beginning of MI3 means that somehow Guybrush has left the alternate reality that he fell into at the end of monkey 2 and come back to the world of monkey island. Just a theory but it makes sense.

  • Look it was an illusion look at chuckies eyes

  • I played this game when I was like, 8 years old, so yeah, LeChuck scared the pants off of me, too.

  • And I was 9... I was very unhappy, that Elaine was still waiting for him. I thought it would be the last monkey island game and they would never be together... And I never played III and IV, because 1992 I got my nintendo gameboy ^_^".

  • @pockypurse lucky you could take his

  • The Underground Tunnel music is just fabulous. And the ending... wow. What an ending to such a great game!

  • I always thought it looked more like Guybrush was creasing up with laughter than in pain when Lechuck zapped him

  • I always got a fright everytime LeChuck turned up. He freaked me out back then... T_T

  • what a twist ending o.o and his brother was freaky making that freaky face at the end

and that poster with the clown face was just SCARY!

  • Coulrophobia?

  • if that's what it's called, yes.. lol

  • Wierd. thought i tried that?

  • Love the humor in theese old games.

  • that boss battle always creeped me out as a kid...

  • All of that and we dont see the weird sayings at the very end on the screen? booo

  • There's a limit on videos you know..

  • Then upload a third part

  • gah, the elevator doesn't work for me. it just jams.

  • This part really scared me when I played it a few years ago. So claustrophobic, and the knowledge that LeChuck may be just seconds away keeps my heart racing. And that ending... wow. I could not believe it when I first saw it.

  • That's my comment.

  • yhea

but you describe exactly what I felt too

  • And all along, Big whoop was a fair ground lol

  • Soundtrack of this game is awesome. Michael Land is a great composer.

  • I wanna ride on the madly rotating buccaneer!

  • This part really scared me when I played it a few years ago. So claustrophobic, and the knowledge that LeChuck may be just seconds away keeps my heart racing. And that ending... wow. I could not believe it when I first saw it.

  • That was exactly how I felt at the first time of playing the ending. I must've been what, 7 or 8?

  • I remember playing this years and years ago, I gave up because I was stuck at that one crucial point in the game that took me months, eventually giving up and never playing it again. I didn't think to mix the voodoo ingredients in the bag, that was it! The helium filled gloves and balloon threw me off!!!

  • you know the 3rd one was surrpossed to explain what happend between these two, what was it.

i was a bit confused because i thought they went back in time ( parents being there) but the third one makes it out like big whoop just turns you into a kid, i was allways a bit confused on that bit when playing monkey island 3, 2 was the best in my opinion, with the spitting competition, nailing stan in the coffin, loads of good puzzles plus best comedy.

  • There is no explanation because the development team changed between Monkey Island 2 and 3, so the new development team tried to explain the weird ending of MI2 but just caused more confusion.

  • To explain the ending for people who never played the game - Guybrush was hunting for big whoop - the treasue - because it supposed to be a portal to another world where he could escape Lechuck - if you notice in the video u cannot use the lift until u take the ticket and so Lechuck obviously wet with him thats why the park is called big whoop - or it was all a kid's imagination of course...

  • Wrong.

You can not use the life because you're too heavy, due to the large crate. Therefore you need to fill the balloon and gloves with helium to make yourself lighter. It has nothing to do with the ticket.

  • I took this as a theory to the ending, not the instructions to get the voodoo doll done.

  • Hey, you didn't inhale some helio. That's was funny.

  • look they wanted to copy the star wars ending plus lechuck explains what he did in no.3 before he turns u into a kid

  • I really hate this ending!!!

It just ruins every moment spent on any episod of series...

Anyway the game itself remain one of the best game ever (vgaming is art? play this game and answer yourself)

  • hehe totally agree with you !

  • The Underground Tunnel is one of my favorite tunes from the series. It's kind of sad, beautiful and DARK, something that MI2 stood out with.

  • Totally agree. If it weren't for the constant state of anxiety there, I'd be absorbed in its beauty.

  • god i love the version of lechucks theme they play in the credits....its actually kinda haunting

  • Agreed. But it's actually an awesome fusion of LeChuck's theme with the main theme of MI.

  • i dont get this at all does that mean all the adventures he has are fake or wat and is le chuck/chunkie his brother plz can sumone clear this up 4 me my brain is hurting =(

  • The guy who made the first 2 monkey island games (Ron Gilbert) left LucasArts for some reason and they carried on making Monkey Island's i think. But he never explained the ending of monkey island 2 so the other LucasArts people made up their own explanation that LeChuck just tricked Guybrush and put a voodoo spell on him. There's been a lot of theories on it. The short answer is we'll never know unless Ron Gilbert explains.

  • thank u m8 4 clearing it up at bit lol

  • already at that moment, guybrush is sent to another dimension.

one way to notice that, is because lechuck don't complain about it the second time around

  • In the intro to the third game, they kinda establish that THIS was the illusion, not the first two games.

Makes sense to me, considering that most normal kids aren't able to do that thing with their eyes that "Chuckie" did...

  • Consider that the third game wasn't made by Ron Gilbert, the original creator of MI1 and 2.

Now, come to think about it, the eyes thing...

  • Hi, I'm Chuckie! Wanna play?

  • I remember this, I remember thinking...what?
