Know what? I had the problem, updated the fuckin Firmware and the fuckin lines are still there of course yours are GONE you got a NEW camera from Kodak goes figure eh? :S did you try flashing your OLD camera with the NEW firmware and the lines go away??
@MisterWannabee you shouldn't be using digital zoom anyway, what's the point of getting an hd video camera if you're going to record with crappy quality XD
@joshsniper27 Well, because it makes for a video that's more interesting to watch. Like when I'm recording my kids singing and I zoom a bit on one of them, it does create a positive effect. However, I have found that when I'm operating on 1080, it's a non-issue. It only happens in 720.
what i foudn with this camera is that even though it has full HD, its the compression format they are using which takes the fun out of the HD visual effectivness when watching on a hd tv. kodak seriously need to give a far broader range of compression format settings to the advanced user, especially when using a much larger memory card, heck i mean 2 hrs of footage and only 1.9gb file size thats just to much. full hf or even hd should be close to 30 gb for that time length
the new firmware is now on the kodak website for you to download! works great! suggestion though: make sure you copy all videos off of your memory card, then do a reformat disk on your camera, download firmware to computer, unzip, put memory card into your computer, open up, create folder called "system" copy the two unzipped files to the system folder, put card back into camera and it should recognize it. Click the check mark to say yes to install (you'll have to do this twice)

Is there a way to just download this new firmware onto my camera without any shipping? Also when they shipped you a new camcorder you got to keep it, right? Or is that your 2nd one? It would be so sick to giveaway my old camcorder! Nice video BTW.
I have had my Kodak replacement that came with the new firmware for about 2 weeks and the line problem is pretty much fixed!! I do not notice any horrible vertical streaks and it works even better in low light! I'm super happy and I have no problems recommending it!! This is the best HD pocket cam out there. I feel bad for the ones who are still having problems though.

@wbsmietana i know...my mini dv canon zr-100 doesn't even compare at all to the picture quality of the zi8. Granted the sound is probably better, but you could always upgrade to the external mic. Digital picture is key, and this camera has a near cinematic digital picture quality!
Man, I returned two Zi8s and didnt get squat. Same vertical line issues, same everything. Another Youtuber received a freebie too. This ticks me off. you still have lines? It still shows the lines for me during preview, but once I hit record the lines go away. While there is still noise during LOW LIGHT video, all cameras will have some noise. I went through tech support to exchange my camera.

OK, I just got an e-mail from Margaret G. saying that she has seen all the stuff on the web that I sent her about the problem. She asked that I send in my camera and that they are going to send me a replacement camera for my troubles. Now updating mine kind of fixed it, but the one they sent you sounds better than mine. So I am going to take them up on their offer. I will let you know how it goes.

What did you do to get them to send you a new cam? I updated the firmware this morning and it's better, but not as great as the one you apparently got. I'm still waiting to hear back from an upper level tech since one contacted me last week.

Hey man I just got this cam for $100.
Problem when I plug the HDMI on mHDTV the cam is not detected. usually my TV detect any HDMI plugged as my slr camera or ps3. any help

you still have lines? It still shows the lines for me during preview, but once I hit record the lines go away. While there is still noise during LOW LIGHT video, all cameras will have some noise. I went through tech support to exchange my camera.
