I suspect its' probably a bit higher but from the point of "Did the war start when Saddam came to power and perhaps it ended when we invaded" probably thousands died in secret under his dictatorship - I agree that extra people died during the warfare by just being in the wrong place at the wrong time but things tend to be bad at the start so they can improve in the long run. Well thats hope that things do get better for iraq. Its their country. They didnt want saddam, and they dont want us there.

Dont forget the USA supported saddam for a long time, and ignored the suffering of his people. They did this because he was a useful dictator to the political movements of the usa.
