  • why would he leave the knife in the tire

  • @seppukuification925

He did it in a hurry. Stab and run like Hell.

  • Tom Hanks does NOT get enough work, and this movie is the proof.

  • if the kid died. that would have been a poor movie.

  • how road to perdition should have ended, Jude law wastes the guy as soon as he walks into the restaurant then waste the kid. end credits.

  • Two Things:

    1) cops got free stuff back then too?!

    2) cop asks "hey what are...."

  • wow they had redial with an operator.... back in those times....kool.....

  • Tom Hanks actually sweated while shooting the diner sequence with Jude Law. No fake sweat or makeup. Real blood.

This is why he's such a good actor.

  • jude law usually makes me cringe. but so far he's fairly fuckin good in this.

  • 7:32 you meet such interesting people at these roadside attractions, don't ya.

  • "hay what do you think your" lol

  • @blackmanxz lol my thought exactly, the cop does not take out his gun just stands there casually asking the guy

  • @samiul360 lol, prob wanted to be paid off

  • Wow...I totally thought there was gonna be a knife kill...not a knife sabotage...AWESOME TWIST.

  • why does jude law remind me of stewie griffin from family guy????

  • @bendle34 the hair :P

  • @bendle34 I think the eyes :P .... and hair. xD

  • Jude Law is excellent & compelling (in this very creepy & brutal way!), as this remorseless Irish-American psychopath. Ruthless & cold blooded indeed!

  • Tom Hanks is the finest actor in America, hands down!

  • @sxlfkta completely

  • Bar code on the bottom of the the sugar jar at 9:08!

  • what cop worth his salf would ask what do you're think you're doing to a man with a loaded gun lol

  • It's funny, on the commentary the director says they bought the diner off the net for 20k.

  • they had Star 69 back then?

  • thought the sign said ally wood there for a sec..

  • Jude Law is so creepy in this movie

  • Plot hole - how the fuck did the Jude Law character manage to randomly identify Sullivan in the middle of no where, when he clearly states earlier that he have never meet Sullivan?

  • @narrator89 You see him at 1:00 looking at a photograph of Sullivan at his wife and son's wake, so he knows what he looks like.

  • @VirtuaFig

    Ah, must have missed that!

  • @narrator89 He saw him in the picture during the funerals

  • the cop. "hey what do you think you're doi" and dead... what a dumb cop

  • Jude Law's character is great. To sit down across from the guy you're going to kill and have a conversation with him while you wind up the camera that you plan to photograph his corpse with? That's something.

  • And the award for dumbest cop on the planet goes to...

  • Are they singing a James Brown song in the car from 9:29 - 9:31?

  • dude, i have that camera at my house! i knew it was old, but not that old!

  • Has Tom Hanks ever made a bad movie lol?I really dont remember a movie he did that litterally sucked.Does anyone els remember one?

  • @jays2474 terminal

  • the hate in tom hankds eyes at the church is awesomely well acted

  • wow this guy sulivan must be the worst fugitive ever... I mean he goes to his sisters house, and then to make it even easier for them to track him down he decides to call home first.

  • @thelonepicklejar

Initially he's just nervous. Then he gets that feeling that something isnt right, and as the guy talks about dead bodies, he recognises another killer. Then it all falls into place. He obviously also knew that there'd be someone coming for him. Wasn't a very good idea to call home though...

  • @Kitarl indeed, its just intuition i think, u just know when sth is wrong, atleast i do :)

  • @Kitarl Yeah, because tracing phone calls was common practice in the 1930s...

  • @DavidMann All calls go through an operator system in that time period, so yeah, pretty common. Did you think that comment out first or were just trolling for a fight?

  • ... O.O WOW Law is fantastic in this! i never knew he had it in him!!!

"i shoot the dead" = :D and he drops such a dead serious face when he says that too, it was almost comical ^^.

  • I'm not a fan of Jude Law's work but he is fucking brilliant in this film.

  • How could he tell that the photographer wanted to kill him, was it the teeth?

  • at 1:17 i see a face behind that ladys head

  • Comment removed

  • Why the hell would the cop say "what do you think you're doing?" after sseing the fact that there is a guy firing a gun at someone and getting himself shot?

  • @MrSoprano0125 : here is my guess about your observation.....that handgun ownership and use was so common at that time, especially in the rural areas that the cop may have concluded he was shooting at someone that may have stolen his car or commited some crime, theft etc against him.

  • Wow ! Magic coffee cup at 7:05 !!!!!

  • Do u see that Tyler Hoechlin has a unibrow? he needs to get rid of it it doesn't do anything for his looks. Unibrows never really do

  • Jude Law is very awesome in this movie

  • the church scene is so beautiful!!!

  • if i saw jude law's character in a bar i would run screaming

  • dus anyone know what kinda gun mr. miguier shoots that cop with?

  • rubbin

the gun is a .32 ACP Savage 1907

  • stupid kid gotta ask questions wen his dad tells him to do sumthing!

  • "I shoot the dead." Love that line! Love this movie!!!

  • @tadpolesexxx More like suffocates the dead.

  • @tadpolesexxx Pathologically perfect.

  • @tadpolesexxx haha, its hilarious and also: "I don't kill them myself". And when Michaels father answers: "I sure hope not" Love the intensity here.

  • Respond to this video...Jude Law: "You've got a special" Waitress: "Everything's special" "Is that so?" She: "Everything except the food" haha:-)

  • honey dipped chicken and a black coffee sounds delicous

  • Is that HP sauce on the table i see??

  • Yes it is.

  • A great picture for sure.

  • How many people noticed that a cup of coffee magically appears in front of Jude Law?

  • Comment removed

  • Ths music in this movie is incredible, just like American Beauty. I love the style of both movies. Just the music in general really hits your core in my opinion.

  • it makes you cry in the end!!! soo good!!!

  • jude law is awesome! he is so scary

how can tom hanks SWEAT on purpose

  • I swear, every time I watch this movie I get a craving for honey dipped fried chicken and a black coffee. It fits the scene perfectly. **cozy, rainy, dark night in a small rural diner, the perfect time for some coffee and honey fried chicken**

  • how the hell did he catch up 2 them so fast, i know the operater helped but damn that was quick!

  • the cop was retarded- the man was shooting a gun and he says "What do you think you are doing?!" 10 feet away?? its a great movie- but the shooting scenes were all crap.

  • Good film its a little out of Hanks character, but i dont think Hanks could do a poor job on screen if he tried ;]

  • hey what do you think you're doing!

  • The "english" comment was for Johnnyblaze btw. Secondly, what cop...from any era....in the history of cops would ever ask a guy who's just taken shots at a car "Hey, what do you think you're doing?" to the guy? Oh yeah, while standing in the open. Love this movie but that part always annoyed me.

  • The only thing that sucks on this page is your spelling and grammar.

  • every1 should know the cafe scene is flawed. When the hitman is pouring sugar in his coffee, theres a bar code on the bottom of the jar. Bar codes didnt exist back then. ; D

  • Haha!

    Great catch, Will!

  • dumb cop gets shot

  • now a crazy ass person like that would keep his professional work to hiself bcuz anything kinda of clue always throw a person off where they figure you out right away thats why i don't tell me business with lettin keep on guessing.

  • uhhhhh what???? Please tell me English isn't your 1st language

  • stupid cops

  • What a bunch of movie geeks. It is a good flick who gives a shit about ambience and character creation. I hope danny craig gets shot in the face and thats that.

  • Really interesting scene.

First of all, it's a diner.

Nothing quite like the American all-night diner.

    Totally unique ambiance.

Secondly, Sullivan had not heretofore displayed much ability for deceit (i.e., his cunning engagement of MacGuire).

Thirdly, Jude Law is just damn creepy, here.

    Just a damn creepy cockroach.

    Thanks for posting.

  • ability to deceit?

    emmm hes an assassin

  • I get you, porno - but you may be making assumptions of his character from the word 'assassin,' and extrapolating from what the film actually shows of Sullivan.

If we're to look solely at his representation IN THE FILM, he seemed to be more of a blunt hit-man. His two-faced 'repartee' with MacGuire seemed a little beyond his job description to me.

Now, mind you, I'm not looking to be an e-thug or to start online brawls - I just hope to call it like it see it, and I invite discussion.

  • hah 'i get u porno' tat was quite funny

fair enough i suppose i wouldnt really luk into as much but u have ur opinion after all and u clearly seem to know more then me about film though i would consider myself quite the movie fan

    nice talking to u

  • tom hanks looks built like a brick shit house at 0:21!

  • i love that piano work

  • Sam Mendes (the director) has said that the bead of sweat that rolls down Tom Hanks' face was real and not makeup. Holy crap! Great acting.

  • He's a great actor, but you can't make yourself sweat like that all of the sudden. He's probably just being boiled in there. Just take a look at that thick coat.

  • it was probably from the food- you know how you sweat if you eat a hearty hot meal? if this kind of tension makes a guy like that sweat- than this is the wrong line of work- assassins need to be as cool, calm and collected as possible- shit like that is part of the job, he shouldnt be sweating over it.

  • na i just think he was sweating because he's never encountered an enemy so "wierd and freaky" before, "passion to photograph the dead?" i mean come on how wierd can that get?

  • maybe for you, or most normal people, but if something like that makes tom hank's character sweat- than like i said- he is in the wrong line of work. any professional would have played the whole thing off like nothing happened- as far as i am concerned, he was sweating because of the food.

  • Some murderers are diagnosed with mental health disabilities that help to account for a lack of signs of physiological excitement. Just because someone is a professional murderer doesn't mean they won't sweat when they are presented with a crisis.

  • no- this movie is good, but its bs too. people like Tom Hanks character don't survive long if they let something like a tense situation make them sweat. Also i would like to add that Mr. Roonies character is bs too, nobody gets to a position of power like him without being merciless- then all of a fucking sudden he has qualms about killing a rogue hitman who he doesnt even have familial relations with? sorry- but to get to his position, a man like that had to make dozens of decisions like those

  • Interesting point. That said, I disagree with the functionality of fear. I think the reaction to fear is largely physiological which can partially be controlled by recognition and the ability to avoid being completely overwhelmed, based on training and/or experience. Unless some disorder is present, the fear can not entirely be prevented, although one may act as if it had been. After all, very brave and competent men can sweat too when presented with genuine danger.

  • @XIPM3 dude, i dont want to be rude, but he raised Michael like his son, Michael didnt have a father, and so rooney was basically his father, and michael was ronney's 2nd son, watch the piano scene again

  • @dboytesoro

That's exactly it. Sullivan is nothing like this weird twisted assassin and he can sense it. He is human after all. Hit-man or not Sullivan does get afraid sometimes.

  • shit at 4:25 jude law is creepy

  • (reply to jackstein104)

I'm sure Jude Law's character gets a hard on when he sees dead/dying people.

    ...Disgusting.

  • i love the bowler hat

  • lol man i was thinking the same thing when i saw this... you can make a movie great, but not perfect

  • That's tom hanks film rocking rocking and always best in this world... the coffee not appeared automatically he prepared there by the sugar and the milk which was already over the table... i love this part tom hanks role proved he was the real hero even in the screenplay thanks... for this kinda good films...

  • How does that coffee suddenly appear?

  • Does anybody know which part is the one where Jude Law rolls the coin across his fingers? Thanks.

  • I's in Road to Perdition pt. 9., after Sullivan has taught Michael to drive and they're robbing banks.

  • what a great scene between jude law and tom hanks! chilling.

  • its after the cop has had a curry he too stuff to pull his gun out, so he just spoke instead! but of course it was too late! moral of the story is- eating 10 seconds before man handling som1 gets u lazy.

  • Ye he knws its him because he sees a picture of him at his house

  • to be payed to do what you love

  • brilliantly acted scene. The rest of the movie can drag at times, but there are real gems in it nonetheless.

  • what was that little box thing with the yellow tape in it that Jude Law has in the diner scene?

  • how did jude know it was him, since he didnt see the kid with him?

  • Jude knew it was him because he has seen picture of Michael at the funeral I believe.

  • Camera

  • The yellow tape was a roll of film that he was rolling into his camera.

    Pre-digital.

  • i love the diner scene. the way the sweat starts dripping down sullivan's face when daniel craig starts talking about dead people is just awesome

  • That's Jude Law in the diner scene, not Daniel Craig. Daniel Craig plays Connor Rooney.

  • oh yeah my bad

  • I love how everyone is playing against type in this movie:

Tom Hanks a lethal mob enforcer

Jude Law is the psychopathic killer who has a fetish for dead bodies

Daniel Craig is an alcoholic train wreck who is constantly feeling weak in the presence of his father

Paul Newman is a ruthless crime boss who is split over his two "sons" (even though Tom Hanks is only an adoptive son, he loves him just as much as Daniel Craig's character)

All against type, it's great. One of my favourite movies. Thanks

  • @KazuoKiriyama666 was thinking the same thing

  • @KazuoKiriyama666 LOL,i never payed attention to that.Your right.

  • @KazuoKiriyama666 very true, it's part of what makes it great.

  • james klanto you have great taste in films!

  • wow, the officer's an idot, he shoulda drawn his gun and had some cover, eh, adds to the drama i guess

  • I really really enjoyed this movie. The only thing is, I don't think the role of a mobster is a great role for Tom Hanks. But in spite of that he played the role beautifully. He's fantastic.

  • I personally think that's what makes his character so compelling. He isn't fit for all of this lifestyle. He's a family man first, and mobster-killer, whatever you want to call it a distant second. But choosing to be one threatens the other, and that's one of the themes of this movie. A more rugged individual would have taken away from the innocence and softness of the character. Because he doesn't fit makes it work. That's just what i think

  • You know, that's actually a great way of looking at it! That makes a whole lot of sense!

  • Fantastic movie

  • Fast Waitress at 7:05

  • Who would have -- watching this movie -- thought that Daniel Craig would end up being the most kick-ass Bond ever? :P

  • Here, here! He was the epitome of Bond. What he was always intended to be, Fleming's vision, not movie-makers. Good show, mate!

  • It's hard to believe I ever had my doubts that Craig would be the perfect Bond. Heck, before Casino Royale came out I thought that the heads of United Artists had lost their minds and I even believed that Pierce Brosnan should have come back to the role. Wow, talk about being way off the mark.

  • The cop is used to a small-town farming community most likely and like Barney Fief, he probably isn't used to a criminal element showing their faces around "town'. This ain't Al Capone's Chicago he's workin' in, and whether or not his gun is even loaded at the time he got capped can be debated... (might be the first time he's even seen a weapon discharged in the commision of a crime.)

  • funny when the cop gets shot and looks up then gets shot again.

  • What cop approaches a person firing a gun in the middle of the street with "hey what do you think you're doing?". Christ, any cop today would have already shot or tased that dude to the ground.

  • well its the midwest... it was probably the "retarded policeman"

  • LMAO at 7:05 Damn that's a fast waitress.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

lol i didn't realised that awesome LOL

  • Haha. Did you see how much sugar Maguire poured into his coffee?

  • havent seen the movie yet. part of it was filmed where I live. Guess i should rent it.

  • This is such a perfect and interesting movie! I love it! Tom Hanks and Jude Law are amazing!!! Thank you very much for uploading. =)

  • What, its already a classic.. I rank it up there among Godfather, shawshank redamption, Casablanca, the hustler, Gladiator, the usual suspects.. Its a great piece..

  • Hanks is a phenomenal actor!

  • The look on Tom Hank's face from the 5:48 mark to the exchange between the two men through the 8:46 mark is the most dynamic part of this movie. Hanks realizes what (not who) Law's character is, just as Law is quite aware he's been "made". Two killers, who might have never met before, now do so...

  • Klanto, thank you so much.

  • whats the name of the song at the beginning?

  • Road to chicago by Thomas Newman

  • That part where they're walking up the steps to the church, with the sunlight fighting through the clouds and the haunting piano strain, is one of my favorite 4-6 seconds in any movie.

  • ok..i watched it again..i understand now..the story is better than i thought..still a little dramatic though...but very good so far

  • awesoem actors n shit

  • lol worst cop ever...thanks for posting this up james, i lost my dvd a while ago and i have been wanting to watch this forever.

  • thanks Klanto.....

  • That's an interesting gun that Harlen has there - is it some sort of Mauser prototype or something?

  • No it's an old Luger P08 Parabellum

  • No...it's an M 1907 Savage pistol in .32 ACP. It was a competitor to the Colt and Luger with teh Us military, but they did not adopt. Great little pocket pistol though!

  • so it is one of those old savage pistols.

  • Damn, that's good, thanks for the info!

  • my vcd's second cd did not work...and now i can watch it...thanks James:D

  • I love how Tom Hank's character is pretty intelligent in this scene he can just tell right off the bat .... okay this guy is dangerous.

  • Lol, yeah... but if a guy sat down next to me and said something along the lines of "I like looking at dead bodies", I'd think there was something wrong with him too, xD

  • Jude Law's character creeps me out

  • you said it!! jude law rocks!! awesome actor!

  • damn good movie, thanks for uploading.

  • Judelaw rocks

  • thanks james klanto for posting

  • that diner scene is awesome thanks for posting this
