I hear what you're saying. However, if it was done correctly, it would show the bravery of the people involved. They had to battle against overwhelming odds with little in the way of equipment or support from home. If it were done as a mini-series, Hornfischer's book "Ship Of Ghosts" could be used. This way, the battle could be shown first, and then the experiences of the survivors while working on the Thai railroad bridge (River Kwai)
Not really as it would have to tell the tales of a total shambles, thats why many history n=books do not cover this period it starts at Pearl Harbor and then on to Coral sea and Midway this is not mentioned as it was a terrible defeat and disorganised mess. Not hollywood material.

Someone really should make a movie about this battle. The Dutch actor Jeroen Krabbe would make a great Admiral Karel Doorman.

@WELLBRAN That's why I think it's a good idea for a film it shows how close the Japs came to completing their South Pacific campaign.
