love how fripp goes about his business. doesn't weild the guitar like a phallus. rather he's so matter-of-fact, as if he knows what must be done and simply goes about his work. the notes do all the talking. of course i love how fucking goofy and bombastic adrian is. they are such foils to one another. incredible how they managed to stay relevant in the 80s without losing their essence in the least bit
I'll just say this - the 4 man Crimson plays this song properly. The double trio does not. And the same is true for every song in the repertoire - look, it's like driving an exotic sportscar at high speed - you need the correct number of hands on the wheel - one isn't enough (you'll crash), two is, but if the passenger reaches over and starts helping you drive, you'll crash as well. This music is so complex - you need the correct number of hands to play it, monkeys that we are.
One of the great Crim lineups. Having any of these guys in your band would be like having two extra players. The four of them together produce a huge sound!
Agree with bloggulator about the sound in this clip, though.
This is the reason I got cable in 1984. Saw a commercial for MTV concert - King Crimson, called cable company that day. Saw them four months earlier in Indy.
This is a nicely demented version, but I feel RF kinda skimped on the distortion here, maybe it was a technical thing, but I find it didn't quite have the same growl he usually brings to the table...
@Marine475 Well, I know that, but this isn't really synthesized. I mean, Adrian's guitar tone is still as demented as ever, but Robert just didn't break out the big guns like he used to. Now, with 90's Crimson and onwards, he's firmly back in the metallic zone with this track.
@1957thack That list is BULLSHIT. I don't care if Fripp is on it or recognized it's still shit. All these greatest guitarist lists always stick Hendrix, Clapton, Duane Allman, RItchie Blackmore and Beck who actually deserve to be up there with a bunch of mediocre guitar players, and then at the end of the list you usually see something like Steve Howe, Robert Fripp, Alex Lifeson, Steve Hackett, Frank Zappa, and Adrian Belew are all towards the bottom. Only list I have found close to being good
This video just confirms what I've always felt: of all of KC lineups, the symbiosis Fripp / Belew is the best ever. Fripp's riffs and Adrian's guitar (and stage presence) make an absolutely unbeatable combination. The fact that they can sound like this live is just overwhelming.
KING CRIMSON tribute band THE GREAT DECEIVERS are playing on Saturday, July 17th, 2010 @ the Good Hurt club in West Los Angeles!!! Find them on myspace and/or Facebook to send them your name and email address to get in for FREE!!!
This was one of the BEST bands in the world, undisputedly.

Interesting to hear Adrian's take on this. The middle progression is a bit sparse without the violin, be he does a great job otherwise.

Some people think pop music is melodic. Some people think metal is heavy.
This is one of the best songs ever written or performed.

A good musician can play like this from time to time. A great musician can play like this consistantly. These guys are top-shelf.

You should change the title & tags. It's "aspic" not "aspect." Think salad.

They use Roland GR analog synths rather than coils and tubes here, the Roland GR guitar with overdriven G300 synth is the most evil sound ever.

Respond to this video... is digitaldreamdoors 100 greatest guitar players list which still gives Robin Trower, an incredible low spot.

0:40 to 0:45 is epic
Why isn't that in any other version of the song
