For example, the suns. They are a fast paced team, they don't use many half court sets, mostly pick and rolls. No need to run through a big man. Now, look at the lakers, the way they are set up. They SUCKED when shaq left, why? Because their offense needs a fucking big man. THey sucked until Bynum stepped up, then they killed. Bynum got injured, so they got gasol, and they rocked again. A big man is required in the lakers offense.
When you have these dumb, ignorant ass, arrogant, uninformed kobe fanboys, who are actually STUPID enough to insinuate that it was kobe & not Shaq that was the MAINLY responsible for those 1st 3 Laker titles, that's when the hardcore, knowledgable fans come out & let their asses have it..
Longtime NBA fans here in the YouTube community have had it up to here with these stupid ass kobe fans. That's WHY there's SO MUCH anti-kobe sentiment goin' around..
I agree with you 100 percent here. People ignore the fact that Shaq was on his prime during that run, and that he WAS the MAIN offensive weapon since NOBODY could stop him, but Kobe was a selfsh player back then and he ALWAYS wanted the spotlight. Although I agree he has blossomed to be one of the greatest players these days, it was Shaq the one who basically won the three titles for the Lakers. To prove it, besides MJ, Shaq is the only other player to average 40 points during his finals run.

You kobe fanboys act like stats are just some #'s that the league got together 1 day & just decided to randomly assign to players as they see fit LOL!!
stats are the summation of what that player actually DID & consistently DOES on the floor, which is DIRECTLY tied to & a reflection of that player's level of skill & dominance!
Show me 1 player, who's ever been "great" at any facet of the game & it WASN'T consistently reflected in their on-court production regarding that facet of the game!
yea i'm a kobe fanboy for saying shaq was the only person that was responsible for the three peat. fact was kobe and the others stepped up against SA, Portland, rockets, and the kings. If shaq was solely responsible what happend between 1996-1999 when shaq was as dominant.
during the 2nd of the 3 titles Shaq's stats don't really "dominate" Kobe's like you say
2001 Playoffs:
Shaq: 30 PPG, 15 RPG, 3 APG, on 55.5%eFG
Kobe: 29 PPG, 7 RPG, 6 APG, on 48.5% eFG
Shaq averaged more turnovers than assists.
Kobe also hit multiple game winners during their playoff runs while Shaq was on the bench because of foul trouble or because he was a liability with the Hack-A-Shaq
I agree Shaq was the most dominant for the most part, but that title run was pretty much co-dominance.
Shaq was injured in '04. Kobe shot 38% in that finals. Notice they LOST..
Shaq = highest scoring avg for centers in Finals history & 1 of the few players to score 30 pts in ALL games in the Finals. I don't recall ANY team sending kobe to the line 39 times in a single finals game..
@realfan357 they wont send kobe to the line 39 times because hes a great free throw shooter...shaq has always been an awful free throw shooter so they obviously r gonna send him 2 the line...if hes a 50-55% free throw shooter, hes gonna miss one of 2...when he backed guys down he was so huge he was almost certainly gonna score, so y not foul him? n the opposing teams eyes shaq scorin 1 pt is much better than him scorin 2.
"they obviously r gonna send him (shaq) 2 the line"
Yeah, its called the "hack a shaq", because the offense ran thru him, not kobe, which ought to tell ya something about where he ranked in the Laker offensive hierarchy..
yea im not disputing that with u...the 1st three finals appearances shaq was the number one option. I am a Kobe fan but I kno Shaq was the number one guy 4 those three championships. HOWEVER, dont play that shaq was injured nonsense in '04. his fatass was out of shape, karl malone was hurt, gp was a shell of himself, and kobe was dealin with the rape trial plus tayshaun and those guys just shut him down period. Bottom line that team was toast, and detroit caught them @ the right time.
He WAS injured! They MAINLY lost because kobe SHOT 'EM OUT of the series, or did you forget that? Did you forget how Tex Winters SEVERELY criticized kobe & how Phil called him "uncoachable" after that series?
Even while shaq was injured, he STILL had 36 pts & 14 rebs goin' into the 4th qtr of Game 4 of the '04 Finals. Phil BEGGED kobe to pass the ball to him! You know how many times shaq touched the ball in that qtr? NOT ONCE LOL!!
disagree. Everyone is injured @ that point of the season, so that is invalid. If i remember correctly, Kobe not only had surgery on his shoulder that off-season, but his knee as well, so I could say that Kobe was INJURED also. Shaq was a fat slob who was not willing to keep himself n tip-top shape so he could continue to play @ the incredible level he was playing at durin the begining of the decade. THE ONLY SEASON WHERE SHAQ WAS TRULY MOTIVATED AND STAYED IN SHAPE WAS 99-00 season.
Disagree all U want, WHERE's the PROOF for kobe regarding the finals during those yrs? U say shaq was ONLY motivated during the 1999-00 season? Then explain:
% of pts scored in the Finals
'00 Shaq 38% to kobe's 14%
'01 Shaq 33% to kobe's 23%
'02 Shaq 36% to kobe's 24%
'04 Shaq 26% to kobe's 27%
So an un-motivated Shaq, did that much damage?!! Do U know how DUMB that sounds?!! Call him what U want, he's 1 of the FEW players in HISTORY, to have scored 30 pts in ALL games of a Finals!
@RealFan357 Shaq getting sent to the line so many times wasn't because the offense ran through him, it's because he fucking sucked at the line
Yes, shaq was the main contributor to the lakers getting a 3 peat(except maybe the refs in some cases), but the arguments you're making... aren't accurate and aren't the real reason
EVERY team needs a big man its what you start your team with, whether it's a hall of fame big man, or one that can just defend and give you some offense in the post
Him getting so many free throws had nothing to do with him being option 1. And every team runs their offense through a big man if there is one available, at least teams that win championships.
"Him getting so many free throws had nothing to do with him being option 1"
SMH..wow..the level of delusion & denial on the part of you kobe stans is unreal LOL!!
"every team runs their offense through a big man if there is one available"
Oh really? Tell that to those MJ led Bulls teams, or Isiah's Pistons, or even Wade's Heat title team. All of those examples had their offense ran thru their #1 Option, and on those teams, it WASN'T the damn center..
@RealFan357 For starters, I'm NOT EVEN CLOSE to a kobe fan.
Secondly, use fucking common sense. The MJ led bulls were a team of stars, and the Pistons weren't ran through a big man because they didn't have an legit offensive big men. Just two VERY good defensive ones. If there is a legitimate center, it will be run through the center. There ARE exceptions, you have to use common sense to realize those.
In MJ's 6 titles, Pip was the ONLY constant! He only made 1st Team ONCE & 2nd & 3rd Team TWICE each time!! How many of the other guys made All Star status while MJ was a bull?
Exactly!!
"the Pistons weren't ran through a big man because they didn't have an legit offensive big men"
Neither did the bulls! NONE OF what you're proposing applies to the bulls or pistons, so what's your point? That's the ENTIRE point!!
What happened between 1996-99? They ran into BETTER teams that's what happened!! From an individual standpoint, Shaq was a BEAST during that stretch! Are you crazy?!!
Ask yourself, what happened to kobe during that stretch? His combined avg's during that stretch is only 13ppg on 43% shooting LOL!!
You shouldn't throw rocks at shaq, when it's kobe who lives in a glass house LOL!!
Well there are 2 reasons off the top of my head as to why Shaq didnt win in 1996-99. On reason is MJ was still in the league and getting rings from 96-98. The second reason is that Phil Jackson and the triangle offense didnt find their way to the Lakers yet.
well kobe choked against the jazz in 96 or was that 98 i think, so he had to wait for kobe and phil. back then shaq couldn't do it himself, the league was way too stacked, not to mention the west.
The thing Kobe fans dont seem to remember C webb was in hat series by himself pretty much Kobe had shaq, Kobe cant do shit on his own, Lakers sucked until they got gasol for free, go suck Kobes raping ass
CWebb was ALONE? He pretty much had just another great supporting cast of Mike Bibby, Christie, PEJA, Vlade, and later Brad Miller. Lol you just another one of em' Kobe haters.
Actually the Lakers were doing well in the first half of the season before they got Pau. Shaq can't do anything by himself. he did nothing to win that championship with the heat it was all d wade. Kobe was very young when we had shaq he was only in his 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th seasons with shaq. And in his 4th and 5th seasons he took over, not shaq, shaq just got the ball every posession. Shaq was still good then but the supporting cast made him amazing. Kobe made him amazing
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Maybe in the finals but as far as the playoff series leading up to the Finals Kobe is the one who carried the team to the promise land! Look up game 2 of the western Conference Finals Lakers vs Spurs in 2000- 2001! Shaq states during this game in a press conference that Kobe is his Idol! And he could truly say that Kobe was the best player in the NBA! Thats coming from SHAQ!!! They were a Duo! Two Superstars! Without each other they win shit! Just like Jordan and Pippen!!!!
"as far as the playoff series leading up to the Finals Kobe is the one who carried the team to the promise land!"
Really? It was Shaq, not kobe, who LED the team in PPG on LESS FG attempts & minutes played during that series.
Saying kobe was his "idol", was just humorous praise on his part, to show admiration & respect, much like MJ did when he called Pippen the "best" player in the NBA in '96.
Yes both duos needed each other, but Shaq & MJ "spearheaded" their teams. That's undeniable..
While Shaq was clearly in his prime during that time and the primary focus of that team, you can also say that Shaq doesn't win the title if Kobe isn't there.
No one wins a title by themselves, my only argument is that it was Shaq & not kobe, who was "THE" driving force for those laker titles.
Too many of these delusional kobe fanatics try & claim otherwise.
Now if the lakers go on to win the title this year, THEN & ONLY THEN, can they make a claim about kobe being the "driving force" behind the teams title run..
shaq is as dependent in a wingman as a wingman is dependent on him. sure he dominated, but kobe dominated too in the playoffs. Shaq's history points out his dependeny on spacing the floor. Penny, kobe, wade, and hopefully lebron can space it out for him. i love shaq, but i'm givin credit to where its due and thats wade, kobe, shaq, and the triangle(when he was in la of course)
In the '00 finals, shaq contributed 38% of the laker's pts to kobe's 14%. In the '01 finals, shaq contributed 33% to kobe's 23%; in the '02 finals, Shaq contributed 36% to kobe's 24% & in the '04 finals, Shaq 26% to kobe's 27%.
Now SHOW ME where a team sent kobe to the line 39 times in a Finals game, then we talk. In those 4 finals, Kobe shot 36%, 41%, 45% & 38%. Hell in the '08 finals, he shot 39%! You call that "dominating"?
Hell, he didn't even shoot 50% 1 TIME in last year's finals!
20 percent of the points in the triangle from the perimeter is a bad thing? kobe played his role in tex's system perfectly and stat bookies like yourself are only looking at that. Didn't he dominate Orlando's double team from the post? From the top? he made orlando look bad, and his passes out the double team gave gasol and odom open looks or assists to an open shot. Watch the game and see how dominant kobe was also dude. theres more to the game than stats, its the affect on the floor.
This is a "comparison" & when you compare 2 teammates to determine who was the most dominant, then obviously 1 player's production is gonna be inferior to the other guys. That's just the bottom line..
He was NOT dominating in those series, shaq was & has the "on-court" results to PROVE it! The stats are a DIRECT result of on-court play, so I wish you kobe fanboys please quit it with your nonsensical claims of "stats aren't everything"..they're a reflection of that player's skill & dominance!
No offense man, but you are comparing a team that has a star that is so young and inexeprienced. Howard has no offensive game skills besides a dunk and maybe a hook shot. Kg was out, so they couldnt make it to the finals and the Cavs had Lebron and maybe Moe williams. LA has Gasol, KB, Odom & many good shooters. They even have Artest this year & Ariza coming off the bench when he is starting on another team. Also, Ariza was the reason they came away with the wins vs teams that could beat them
and kobe is the reason why ariza was always open and had open shots. Kobe can post from 10-15 feet back to the basket, and he killed whatever orlando can because he is not just a pick and roll player. People weren't complaining when kobe had the same team in 06 and 07 except for gasol. they just got better.

Well there are 2 reasons off the top of my head as to why Shaq didnt win in 1996-99. On reason is MJ was still in the league and getting rings from 96-98. The second reason is that Phil Jackson and the triangle offense didnt find their way to the Lakers yet.
Shermstyle23 2 years ago
well kobe choked against the jazz in 96 or was that 98 i think, so he had to wait for kobe and phil. back then shaq couldn't do it himself, the league was way too stacked, not to mention the west.

The thing Kobe fans dont seem to remember C webb was in hat series by himself pretty much Kobe had shaq, Kobe cant do shit on his own, Lakers sucked until they got gasol for free, go suck Kobes raping ass
number3answer 3 years ago
CWebb was ALONE? He pretty much had just another great supporting cast of Mike Bibby, Christie, PEJA, Vlade, and later Brad Miller. Lol you just another one of em' Kobe haters.
z4ng3tsu1ch1g0 2 years ago
Peja choked them out every single year. He choked on the Hornets too.

3-peat Lakers team record minus kobe
'00: 12-4; '01: 11-3 & '02: 2-0
Shaq's Finals avgs B4 Miami: 33ppg 14rpg 3apg 2bpg 60% shooting
Shaq = 1 of the few players to score 30 pts in ALL games of a Finals..
% of 3-peat lakers pts scored by kobe in the Finals
'00: 14% (not even including the game he missed); '01: 24%; '02: 25%; '04: 26%
And kobe avg'd more minutes & FG attempts than shaq in the Finals LOL!!
I think it safe to say they won MAINLY because of Shaq..

Jaywilly24 2 years ago
"as far as the playoff series leading up to the Finals Kobe is the one who carried the team to the promise land!"
Really? It was Shaq, not kobe, who LED the team in PPG on LESS FG attempts & minutes played during that series.
Saying kobe was his "idol", was just humorous praise on his part, to show admiration & respect, much like MJ did when he called Pippen the "best" player in the NBA in '96.
Yes both duos needed each other, but Shaq & MJ "spearheaded" their teams. That's undeniable..
RealFan357 2 years ago 2
While Shaq was clearly in his prime during that time and the primary focus of that team, you can also say that Shaq doesn't win the title if Kobe isn't there.
theeboredone 2 years ago
No argument from me.
RealFan357 2 years ago
well said... this should be in a textbook somewhere lol
darkmonkey123 2 years ago
shaq is as dependent in a wingman as a wingman is dependent on him. sure he dominated, but kobe dominated too in the playoffs. Shaq's history points out his dependeny on spacing the floor. Penny, kobe, wade, and hopefully lebron can space it out for him. i love shaq, but i'm givin credit to where its due and thats wade, kobe, shaq, and the triangle(when he was in la of course)
LmOnAy 2 years ago
RealFan357 2 years ago
20 percent of the points in the triangle from the perimeter is a bad thing? kobe played his role in tex's system perfectly and stat bookies like yourself are only looking at that. Didn't he dominate Orlando's double team from the post? From the top? he made orlando look bad, and his passes out the double team gave gasol and odom open looks or assists to an open shot. Watch the game and see how dominant kobe was also dude. theres more to the game than stats, its the affect on the floor.
LmOnAy 2 years ago
This is a "comparison" & when you compare 2 teammates to determine who was the most dominant, then obviously 1 player's production is gonna be inferior to the other guys. That's just the bottom line..
He was NOT dominating in those series, shaq was & has the "on-court" results to PROVE it! The stats are a DIRECT result of on-court play, so I wish you kobe fanboys please quit it with your nonsensical claims of "stats aren't everything"..they're a reflection of that player's skill & dominance!
RealFan357 2 years ago
No offense man, but you are comparing a team that has a star that is so young and inexeprienced. Howard has no offensive game skills besides a dunk and maybe a hook shot. Kg was out, so they couldnt make it to the finals and the Cavs had Lebron and maybe Moe williams. LA has Gasol, KB, Odom & many good shooters. They even have Artest this year & Ariza coming off the bench when he is starting on another team. Also, Ariza was the reason they came away with the wins vs teams that could beat them
Shermstyle23 2 years ago
and kobe is the reason why ariza was always open and had open shots. Kobe can post from 10-15 feet back to the basket, and he killed whatever orlando can because he is not just a pick and roll player. People weren't complaining when kobe had the same team in 06 and 07 except for gasol. they just got better.
