@KerianH Because SOPA was about websites and making them liable for their user's content, not games. ACTA died ages ago, it only takes one European country to refuse it to stop it from going through. You're out of date and unknowledgable.
@Badhabitsjay Wow...I simply say do some research and you immediately start growling at me...
Games are included, but specifically it's videos made from games, like Machinima. Websites like the official Rooster Teeth website (just an example) could get taken down because of the heavy use of the content from the Halo games.
ACTA is very real. That same European country can say yes to it as easily as no. If that happens, then it's already too late.
@Badhabitsjay Fucktard yourself. Your opinion's null.
Your attempts to drive me into the dirt failed. If you don't like someone coming up and promoting freedom of speech, then go live in some Communist country like China. You'd be more than welcome there as someone's towl boy. That's all whiners are good for.
@KerianH Ah yes, the last bastion of the ignorant, you've run out of counter points and actual reasoning to support your statement so now you're resorting to what? China? Where are you going with this exactly? Reminds me of Palin, no direction AT ALL.
In any case, the only one who is ignorant here is you. I've done my research, as have hundreds of thousands of others. All you're doing is blowing your mouth off and making fun of people who actually try to stand up for what's right.
You aren't even worth the effort. This conversation is over.
@KerianH No it isn't. You've failed to counter all my points and thus you concede them by omission. My point was, you stated SOPA was to do with games, I stated that was wrong, you went on to state that it was to do with videos. Game != videos, therefore you were wrong. QED.
@Badhabitsjay I've not written that comment in a long time, and given that SOPA was in its zenith naturally I was hasty when I wrote it. My point is that you immediately turned around and called me ignorant, stupid, and a fucktard, which is, naturally, any indecent person's response to something they don't like.
Like I should be surprised. Indecency makes up for 90% of the internet's population. Conversation finished, done, gtfo, all that jazz...
@KerianH You said conversation finished last time, doesn't sound like conversation finished to me, sounds like you want to get the last word in to tell yourself you "won" and feel superior. Doesn't change the fact that you were indeed wrong and instead of admitting that wrong you went off on some whimsical rant about communist China, followed by attempting to call me ignorant despite you yourself being wrong.
@Badhabitsjay That's because I'm not wrong. This conversation was about whether or not SOPA had anything to do with games. Since I corrected myself and you immediately pointed fingers, that makes me the winner.
I'm merely extending the conversation due to the fact that a. you're the one refusing to see that it's over, and b. because you'd be the one who would ignorantly think you've won. Any further replies by you are just you delaying the inevitable.
@KerianH That's twice you've said this conversation is over yet continued it, your continuation merely confirms everything I said in the previous message, you are incredibly easily led.
He wasn't supposed to sleep there. He was supposed to sleep in the living room they went into the attic. They saw Jerry's corpse and they just left because they were scared. But that night they all died because of their friend. He killed them all for making him sleep in that house If you don't send this to 11 comments you will die tonight
@3gregy3 But then they realized that they had the power to rewind time & stop Jerry from entering the house. He went in anyway, but they followed. A ghost had appeared! Out of nowhere Jerry & his friends were able to get special ghost fighting tools from the cabinet. Using those special tools Jerry & his friend were able to fight the ghost & kill it. For some odd reason the house was about to explode! Jerry & his friends escaped the house with their lives! You have been saved from death reader!
ONcE YOU'VE READ THE FIRST WORD OF THIS YOU CANT GET OUT. READ ON OR DIE TONIGHT AT 10:35 ... ... ... P.M .9 years ago a person named Jerry got dared to sleep in a house that was belived haunted. The ... next day his friends waited for him out side the house.... ..... ..... ..... They had to go inside and search for him. They went through every room exept the attic.
And because the video game industry has been losing so much money on the resale of used games they are creating games you can only play once (with only one save and no way to delete it) So a legal purchaser of the game will have to fork out another $50 every time they want to relive the experience. (anti resell soft ware or extortion) Here is hoping they bring it to DVD and Blueray soon... Watch the movie ounce than pay another $25 every time you want to see it again.
Molly, for fuck sakes. Do your damn research. This is a disgrace to Computer Programmers. You are stupefying people on your lack of research.

I am so sick of this. Learn your damn information, before you speak it.
@MrVirtualCoder You're criticizing the validity of a Youtube video from a channel that covers mainly internet memes and internet culture, not computer programming. The point of the video was to show the intentional problems gaming companies throw in that help to stop piracy. Not to explain in detail how hacking works. I doubt more than a single fuck (your fuck) was given about the short hacking portion.
@pinkidiot3 She took the time to get information. She should have taken the time to actually research the information. Thus, now a group of people are misinformed duo to her laziness.
@MrVirtualCoder Again, the video isn't A FUCKING HACKING TUTORIAL. Therefore, people who clicked on the video were obviously not looking for one! Otherwise, they would have just looked up their own information from CREDITED SOURCES.
THINK, man, THINK!
Also, Molly is just the host and ONE of the co-producers, there's a whole team behind the Rocketboom channel. The anchors of a national news show typically don't get their own info, they read it off of a paper.
@pinkidiot3 You are evidence of her doing. Hacking is not something you "do", nor is it something you can follow in a Tutorial. Clearly! You are as clueless as she is.
@MrVirtualCoder Then shut the hell up! That only reinforces the fact that nobody gives a shit about whatever it is you're whining about in your first comment!
Did I look up anything where the main idea was hacking or computer programming? No! So I obviously have no interest in the subject or prior knowledge!
The fact of the matter is that you're first comment was pointlessly critical! Stop being a such a snarky ass in your comments!
I am slightly disappoint that you are against game piracy. The gaming industry is perhaps the largest sold out unequal industry. They pay the developers the smallest fraction of profits. Buying a game does nothing for a developer who was payed before the game release. Your only making retail and marketing and executives absurdly rich
@LifeEnderX That is the most absurd, twisted mindset to have. Buying the game does nothing for the developer? Are you kidding? If the game is not successful that developer doesn't get a sequel, more to the point they're going to have a hard time finding publishers that want to work with a company that doesn't have games that sell.
Oo I know who she's talking about. The guy who said "It's not a bug in the game's code, it's a bug in your moral code"s name is Jason Walker and he works for Eidos in Wimbledon, I know him! :)
I get that games and music can be expensive, but if your just a dick who always steals them from the internet for free then how are the people making them supposed to stay employed?
This method of Copy Protection is flawed, I have paid for at least one game where I've witnessed these 'glitches' even though I paid for the damn game!
@cloak211 nope, its called FADE.... chances are you have a poorly installed copy ( playing and modding arma for years; this is not new news for anyone but it is pretty funny how you can use ACE to cancel fade, or turn it off with a simple scrit ) p
I buy all my games legally but I really wonder why. I recently bought dragon age origins ultimate edition which supposedly contained all addons and downloadable content for dragon age 1 however after i paid and downloaded 20gb worth of data NONE of the downloadable content worked and after researching I realized that was a common problem so I had to crack the downloadable content... fuck you steam multimillion dollar assholes
I was just thinking...I bought a copy of the 'Fast and Furious' movie soundtrack a couple years ago (the one for the first movie). When I tried to copy it onto my computer (FOR MY OWN USE, Thankyouverymuch), Surprise surprise! Half of the cd wouldn't copy. How cute.
Later, the CD met its mortal enemy - The Shredder - and was promptly ripped into tiny, tiny pieces. Yeah.
Throughout the whole video, I kept thinking "Yeah, just like EarthBound...", then when you said "But perhaps the most cruel out of all these has to be the Super Nintendo classic...", and now I'm thinking "Wait...is she really going to say it? Nah, she most likely doesn't know about the game.", then you said "...EarthBound.". ...My head exploded at that part due to an overflow of fanboyism. :3
i bet if spore comes out with a sequel, it will have a procedurally generated detection code that is also randomly placed in each individual game's files to make it less easily detected itself. once it detects it is a pirated copy, it immediately uninstalls itself, erases save data and (harmlessly) crashes the computer. that would be payback from maxis.
As anybody that's done even 5 minutes of research into the subject can tell you: ALL of these "easter egg copy protection" schemes were circumvented by the pirates within hours of the games' releases. The most they've ever done is pose a couple hours of confusion for a few people before a fixed version is torrented and replaces the original "easter-egged" one.
At best, these schemes bring a bit of word-of-mouth marketing for the game; at worst they are an absolute and complete waste of time.
@lishuss I came up with the episode idea because a friend working on a 3DS game was telling me about Nintendo's policy that requires developers to add these checks to their games. He told me the checks for his game, but I couldn't use those, I could only use ones that have been publicly revealed. But yeah Cracked did also write an article about this? And I did find it, among others, during research? But Cracked writes a lot of articles? And facts are public? I dont see the value in you complaint
Did anyone else even watch ROCKETBOOM before Molly? I remember the past host, Joanna, who was pretty good but less personable. The writing of the show has always been pretty much the same, so the people saying that they're going to unsubscribe are watching for the wrong reasons and need to get a girlfriend. I'm curious how a new host will take the direction of the show and I look forward to it.
Well, you can't do something like Rocketboom forever. If Molly wanted to leave I support her for it and won't ask for her to return just so we can be slightly happier. Thanks for the memories Molly, goodbye. I'll quote Dr. Seuss here, one of my favorites: "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
Do you know whats a crime? Making billions of dollars off of one game/music and associated merchandise then crying over a small fraction of product not being paid for. Stop over charging the customers with your grossly engorged greed >:C multinational bastards
@Gr4yW0rld in a serious note, the standard econ knee-jerk reaction: if it was true that you could produce a game or a music for cheap and sell it for millions, why don't you see everybody and their mom entering the business? Fact is for every successful game or music, there are plenty of those that don't make the cut. The companies have to make enough money from the successful merchandise to subsidize those investments that didn't pane out.
@UnconformistSheep It is much easier to produce product once a company reaches a certain critical mass. This is when they are able to overwhelm the market with their icons, become a household name, and easily compete with new small companies while holding a massive profit, essentially become a monopoly. People cant enter the business because a few companies have already won. Keep note, they still make billions in profit even after account the expenses of their failures
@Gr4yW0rld there are entry costs to any business, and that includes advertisement of course. the entry costs for games and music seem actually trivial in comparison. but I digress. it's funny how you argue piracy helps established companies, but it's clear piracy harms starting producers too, like those of Machinarium who even launched a period of amnesty.
if people are being mislead about the game quality, you make a good point. otherwise, buy the game if you think it's worth it. it's win-win.
@Gr4yw0rld There's a fallacy at work when someone thinks that because a CEO is a multimillionaire, he must be ripping you off. Consider that if a CEO charges just an extra dollar per game, and his company produces 10 million copies of that game, he would make 10 million dollars just like that. Do you really think he's being greedy charging each person 1 freaking dollar? or *gasp* 2 dollars? plus the actual cost of the game and the salaries of all his employees. Rich =/= greedy.
@eggory They will charge you as much as they can get away with, and yes while a dollar extra on the sale of a game may not seem like a big deal, keep in mind he is doing that to every game, for ten million people. Doesnt seem like such a small deal anymore does it? People are pissed over the gov. wanting a few cents more for when people buy soda, yet they ignore how much they are getting fucked by big business. Consider the opposite to your scenario, will it hurt them so much to charge $1 less?
@Gr4yW0rld For him it's not a small deal, and for you it is, that's the beauty of it. The point is he doesn't have to rip you off to make a fortune. You seem to cry injustice on the basis that someone who runs a company like that makes more money than you, but when you create that much wealth, when you make that many deals, when you benefit that many customers by trading them a product that would not otherwise exist, you are bound to make more money even if each deal is perfectly fair. Why not?
@eggory If my company makes so much insane profit, I would spend the money, probably by expanding my company and hiring more people or making more goods, or I would lower the cost of my good so it is more accessible. I would toss my extra money at hobos. because if I am ever making a million dollars a year I honestly dont need so much.
If I move to a third world country and I make say shoes for 5$ each and sell for 50$, many a day, just because noone else selling shoes there ya its a rip off
@Gr4yW0rld Good luck selling shoes in the third world for $50 U.S. You have to sell your shoes at a price your target buyers can actually afford, not only that, you have to sell them at a price they're willing to pay. And guess what? If they really don't want the shoes that badly, or can make them themselves for less effort than that money is worth to them, or if they can buy it from someone else cheaper, you won't be making any deals. If your shoes are worth more than their price, that's fair.
@eggory Details, minor details. I didnt bother to think of a valuable and relatively simple product that could be sold for weeks to months worth of salary in the third world. Its the jist of it thats important. And I did include the case of noone else selling the same thing. Competition is good, the more the better. But things like the various entertainment sectors are NEARLY monopolized by only 3 or so companies each. People barely even consider nintendo a competitor in next gen consoles,
@Gr4yW0rld First, don't expect to have something you don't work for. Sit all day staring at a tree saying that it would be fair if someone chopped it down and shared the wood with you, and see how far it gets you. The world doesn't work that way. If you want something you owe it to yourself to make it happen, no one else. Every CEO has done just that, making what others value, underselling each other. They own what they produce. Buy it, or keep your money, it's your choice.
@hexyhunter You can get rich without having to cut down a single tree in your life. Find something you can do. That's the great luxury of specialized labour. My point stands, that your willing compliance to a deal implies that the value you're getting in return is at least as much as the price, i.e. you're profitting too. There's a bunch we could go into about parenting, charities, child labour, etc., but unless you're a child and videogames are essential for you, I don't see the relevance.
I'm not a child. Are you one? Do you really don't understand what I mean?
I can explain it for others:
Most users of games (in houers) are childs. (Isen't that also your guess?, ego)
But ifen if it wouldend be like that: A chid has at least to have the opportunity to copie a game for free and charge you and mostly me the adult for it, this over very hurtful to pay taxes.
@Gr4yW0rld I wouldn't say that for all games. Alan Wake the Xbox 360 exclusive had more than 1,025,000 copies pirated. That's more than the total amount of people that actually bought the game! While piracy can be helpful in some cases, and even fun sometimes it can get a little out of hand. This is the paranoia that game creators have and rightly so. I hope you don't think that these "traps" are 100% backed up by greed now.
@tjl1297 True, but I am pissed at all big business, the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Sure each game individually for each hand it passes through makes only a bit of money, it quickly adds up and then multiplies by the billions of copies sold, think of that and then take a look at their giant houses and mini-jet. Then think of the gamer that lives in low income housing, working at mcD's being abused by customers constantly and making slave wage, who just wanted a game AND pay rent
@Gr4yW0rld 1. there are alot of free, fun games out there, you just have to look. 2. the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers all have to put alot of money into marketing, into a project that may or may not make cash. 3. they like to eat to 4. i don't think your really PISSED, your just too cheap to buy games.
I'm surprised the people in Indonesia aren't fed up with their glitchy pirated copies of Xbox 360 and PS2 games. Because there's no such thing as a pirated copy. There is no original over here!
@Normalaatsra ye, even original windows are hard to find... try to find a full version windows, all they gave you is OEM version which are not licensed for retail.
stop with all the unsub talk guys, cmon, who's to say that there isnt someone out there almost as awesome as molly that RB can get to replace her? i would watch a show like that
See, SOPA? The gaming industry can fight back piracy without your help...rofl.

I much prefer the way RIOT fights piracy... Their games are free and they make their money through bonus features which can be bought.
MrMultiSingularity 6 months ago
i bet if spore comes out with a sequel, it will have a procedurally generated detection code that is also randomly placed in each individual game's files to make it less easily detected itself. once it detects it is a pirated copy, it immediately uninstalls itself, erases save data and (harmlessly) crashes the computer. that would be payback from maxis.
kerog6 6 months ago
As anybody that's done even 5 minutes of research into the subject can tell you: ALL of these "easter egg copy protection" schemes were circumvented by the pirates within hours of the games' releases. The most they've ever done is pose a couple hours of confusion for a few people before a fixed version is torrented and replaces the original "easter-egged" one.
At best, these schemes bring a bit of word-of-mouth marketing for the game; at worst they are an absolute and complete waste of time.

lishuss 6 months ago
@lishuss I came up with the episode idea because a friend working on a 3DS game was telling me about Nintendo's policy that requires developers to add these checks to their games. He told me the checks for his game, but I couldn't use those, I could only use ones that have been publicly revealed. But yeah Cracked did also write an article about this? And I did find it, among others, during research? But Cracked writes a lot of articles? And facts are public? I dont see the value in you complaint

Do you know whats a crime? Making billions of dollars off of one game/music and associated merchandise then crying over a small fraction of product not being paid for. Stop over charging the customers with your grossly engorged greed >:C multinational bastards
Gr4yW0rld 6 months ago 70
@Gr4yW0rld don't like it, don't buy it. problem solved.
UnconformistSheep 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld in a serious note, the standard econ knee-jerk reaction: if it was true that you could produce a game or a music for cheap and sell it for millions, why don't you see everybody and their mom entering the business? Fact is for every successful game or music, there are plenty of those that don't make the cut. The companies have to make enough money from the successful merchandise to subsidize those investments that didn't pane out.
UnconformistSheep 6 months ago
@UnconformistSheep It is much easier to produce product once a company reaches a certain critical mass. This is when they are able to overwhelm the market with their icons, become a household name, and easily compete with new small companies while holding a massive profit, essentially become a monopoly. People cant enter the business because a few companies have already won. Keep note, they still make billions in profit even after account the expenses of their failures
Gr4yW0rld 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld there are entry costs to any business, and that includes advertisement of course. the entry costs for games and music seem actually trivial in comparison. but I digress. it's funny how you argue piracy helps established companies, but it's clear piracy harms starting producers too, like those of Machinarium who even launched a period of amnesty.
if people are being mislead about the game quality, you make a good point. otherwise, buy the game if you think it's worth it. it's win-win.
UnconformistSheep 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld Too expensive? Don't buy it. Not yours? Don't steal it. Not that hard.
mcdonoughdm 6 months ago
@Gr4yw0rld There's a fallacy at work when someone thinks that because a CEO is a multimillionaire, he must be ripping you off. Consider that if a CEO charges just an extra dollar per game, and his company produces 10 million copies of that game, he would make 10 million dollars just like that. Do you really think he's being greedy charging each person 1 freaking dollar? or *gasp* 2 dollars? plus the actual cost of the game and the salaries of all his employees. Rich =/= greedy.
eggory 6 months ago
@eggory They will charge you as much as they can get away with, and yes while a dollar extra on the sale of a game may not seem like a big deal, keep in mind he is doing that to every game, for ten million people. Doesnt seem like such a small deal anymore does it? People are pissed over the gov. wanting a few cents more for when people buy soda, yet they ignore how much they are getting fucked by big business. Consider the opposite to your scenario, will it hurt them so much to charge $1 less?
Gr4yW0rld 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld For him it's not a small deal, and for you it is, that's the beauty of it. The point is he doesn't have to rip you off to make a fortune. You seem to cry injustice on the basis that someone who runs a company like that makes more money than you, but when you create that much wealth, when you make that many deals, when you benefit that many customers by trading them a product that would not otherwise exist, you are bound to make more money even if each deal is perfectly fair. Why not?
eggory 6 months ago
@eggory If my company makes so much insane profit, I would spend the money, probably by expanding my company and hiring more people or making more goods, or I would lower the cost of my good so it is more accessible. I would toss my extra money at hobos. because if I am ever making a million dollars a year I honestly dont need so much.
If I move to a third world country and I make say shoes for 5$ each and sell for 50$, many a day, just because noone else selling shoes there ya its a rip off
Gr4yW0rld 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld Good luck selling shoes in the third world for $50 U.S. You have to sell your shoes at a price your target buyers can actually afford, not only that, you have to sell them at a price they're willing to pay. And guess what? If they really don't want the shoes that badly, or can make them themselves for less effort than that money is worth to them, or if they can buy it from someone else cheaper, you won't be making any deals. If your shoes are worth more than their price, that's fair.
eggory 6 months ago
@eggory Details, minor details. I didnt bother to think of a valuable and relatively simple product that could be sold for weeks to months worth of salary in the third world. Its the jist of it thats important. And I did include the case of noone else selling the same thing. Competition is good, the more the better. But things like the various entertainment sectors are NEARLY monopolized by only 3 or so companies each. People barely even consider nintendo a competitor in next gen consoles,
Gr4yW0rld 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld First, don't expect to have something you don't work for. Sit all day staring at a tree saying that it would be fair if someone chopped it down and shared the wood with you, and see how far it gets you. The world doesn't work that way. If you want something you owe it to yourself to make it happen, no one else. Every CEO has done just that, making what others value, underselling each other. They own what they produce. Buy it, or keep your money, it's your choice.
eggory 6 months ago
@eggory
good luck by cutting down the tree if you are a child!
hexyhunter 6 months ago
@hexyhunter You can get rich without having to cut down a single tree in your life. Find something you can do. That's the great luxury of specialized labour. My point stands, that your willing compliance to a deal implies that the value you're getting in return is at least as much as the price, i.e. you're profitting too. There's a bunch we could go into about parenting, charities, child labour, etc., but unless you're a child and videogames are essential for you, I don't see the relevance.
eggory 6 months ago
@eggory
I'm not a child. Are you one? Do you really don't understand what I mean?
I can explain it for others:
Most users of games (in houers) are childs. (Isen't that also your guess?, ego)
But ifen if it wouldend be like that: A chid has at least to have the opportunity to copie a game for free and charge you and mostly me the adult for it, this over very hurtful to pay taxes.
hexyhunter 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld that and what if u cant find the game to buy
sand703 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld I wouldn't say that for all games. Alan Wake the Xbox 360 exclusive had more than 1,025,000 copies pirated. That's more than the total amount of people that actually bought the game! While piracy can be helpful in some cases, and even fun sometimes it can get a little out of hand. This is the paranoia that game creators have and rightly so. I hope you don't think that these "traps" are 100% backed up by greed now.

@Gr4yW0rld you do realize if you buy the game new, ONLY NEW!!!!! at say gamestop for 60 dollars, they only get 6 of those dollars
tjl1297 6 months ago
@tjl1297 True, but I am pissed at all big business, the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Sure each game individually for each hand it passes through makes only a bit of money, it quickly adds up and then multiplies by the billions of copies sold, think of that and then take a look at their giant houses and mini-jet. Then think of the gamer that lives in low income housing, working at mcD's being abused by customers constantly and making slave wage, who just wanted a game AND pay rent
Gr4yW0rld 6 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld 1. there are alot of free, fun games out there, you just have to look. 2. the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers all have to put alot of money into marketing, into a project that may or may not make cash. 3. they like to eat to 4. i don't think your really PISSED, your just too cheap to buy games.
