And if you're gay, why do you want to label your relationship as a marriage anyway? Marriage has always been a religious institution, so other than tax benefits, why would you want to be married if marriage itself is religious?
Rick Warren doesn't even take salary from his church. I understand it's hard to listen to the opposing side when they are saying something you don't want to hear, but think about it objectively. Rick Warren isn't bashing the gay community at all, if you listen to more than just an interview, you'll understand that. Listen to a sermon, understand what he's about before trying to take a stance.

I would like to ask something. The Christian Bible condemns actions that go against a good deed of some sort. Murder, Adultery, False Witness, Taking what is not yours. These actions do some harm to other people or society.

I have no intention of picking on you but to answer your question I would have to know whether you have repented from your sin and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If you have not repented from your sins you will not be the one who goes to Heaven, and if Rick Warren has indeed repented from his sins and trusted in Christ, he will be the one who goes to Heaven. Jesus said what you quoted because people weren't willing to give up their wealth for the kingdom of God. Rick Warren has.
Dude Rick Warren gives 90% of his money away. He does reverse tithing. But even if he gave 100% of his money away he wouldn't make it into Heaven by works. He is being honest enough to tell you his sinful inclinations that he has to fight against in order to obey God. The truth is God is calling all men everywhere to repent. I will tell you that homosexual acts are sin (being gay is not) but it is no worse than lying or neglecting the poor in the sense that living in sin separates us from God.

On the cross, Jesus called to his mother and asked her to accept John as her son and take him into her family. Jesus never told anyone to marry, he accepted eunuchs (who were forbidden by the Torah to enter into the Temple), he said that some people made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus could have had a sexual relationship with John - which is why he (unlike most Jewish priests at 30 years of age) was not married. @Atlavocat The whole point of the entire New Testament is that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. If Jesus Christ had sin of His own, He would have had to die for His own sins, much less be able to die for anyone else. @MattNicholson7 - I'm saying that the earliest Christians expected the world to end and they discouraged marriage and having children. They almost died out because of it. When Christianity was adopted as "the" religion of the Roman Empire they adopted pagan marriage ceremonies because there were no Christiam ceremonies.

@teriiura - I put it down to their own efforts, not on intervention by the supernatural, because there is no evidence to indicate whether Christ has intervened. Such things (including peace and joy) can come from not needing to pretend that something intervenes or is real.

@teriiura For the purposes of the amount of evidence required to prove that what we call emotions are true we can and have assessed behaviours of other people and compared them. We can recognise that similar actions or circumstances trigger similar responses in people. In the case of Jesus and Christian God you have to provide evidence of how that PARTICULAR intelligent being exists.

I had a civil union 10-13-90 and i am still with my partner because I believe everyone should be allowed the same benefits a loving relationship offers...what it's called is another matter. I actually believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. I think the GLBT community made a huge mistake trying to redefine marriage. They should have focused on civil rights, not the name. I don't think the US is ready for anything more and I'm 50.

Those aren't redefinitions of marriage, you listed requirements to get married...still man and woman. I also don't understand how you think Gay Marriage will produce 1000's of families considering that they can't procreate naturally. The Bible doesn't say that a rich man will NOT get into heaven; it says that it's hard for him to get in, because he is trusting in his riches similar to a sodomite who is trusting in his sexual prefference rather than in God. Genesis 13:13, "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly." One sin before the Lord is worse than others, but all sin is against God! I don't agree with Rick Warren on some issues, but I know this; the Bible (which you quoted) says that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that if you believe in your heart Jesus died to pay for your sins and rose from the dead, you will be saved. You can't enter Heaven if you insist on dragging something God names as a sin in with you. It would be a good idea to look to your own eternal destiny through turning from your sins and asking Jesus to be your savior and Lord.

all these people commenting here seem to believe that a good christian is someone who loves a person of the opposite sex and hates gays. How can anyone be so hypocritical? So there are a few lines in the bible saying that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but the rest of the bible's main message is that we should love and accept everyone, no matter what they do or who they love. Also, times have changed since the bible, the main ideas remain but we can't continue to follow

Marriage is an institution created by GOD between a man and a woman. Not a man and a man nor a woman and a woman... period!!!! As a christian I believe in hating the sin and loving the person. I have friends who are gay, however I do pray that they come to the realization that the life they live is an abomination in the site of GOD and pray that they come inline with GOD's will.

I have no intention of picking on you but to answer your question I would have to know whether you have repented from your sin and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If you have not repented from your sins you will not be the one who goes to Heaven, and if Rick Warren has indeed repented from his sins and trusted in Christ, he will be the one who goes to Heaven. Jesus said what you quoted because people weren't willing to give up their wealth for the kingdom of God. Rick Warren has.

Dude Rick Warren gives 90% of his money away. He does reverse tithing. But even if he gave 100% of his money away he wouldn't make it into Heaven by works. He is being honest enough to tell you his sinful inclinations that he has to fight against in order to obey God. The truth is God is calling all men everywhere to repent. I will tell you that homosexual acts are sin (being gay is not) but it is no worse than lying or neglecting the poor in the sense that living in sin separates us from God.

On the cross, Jesus called to his mother and asked her to accept John as her son and take him into her family. Jesus never told anyone to marry, he accepted eunuchs (who were forbidden by the Torah to enter into the Temple), he said that some people made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus could have had a sexual relationship with John - which is why he (unlike most Jewish priests at 30 years of age) was not married. No one has to "surrender their inclinations", you just need to surrender your bigotry and open your heart and mind.

If Jesus Christ had sin of His own, He would have had to die for His own sins, much less be able to die for anyone else. And if He was not the only begotten Son of God, then His sacrifice when He offered Himself would not be great enough to take away the sins of the whole world. And Him coming into the world "to seek and save the lost" would be pointless because

When Christianity was adopted as "the" religion of the Roman Empire they adopted pagan marriage ceremonies because there were no Christiam ceremonies.

@teriiura - I put it down to their own efforts, not on intervention by the supernatural, because there is no evidence to indicate whether Christ has intervened. Such things (including peace and joy) can come from not needing to pretend that something intervenes or is real.

@teriiura For the purposes of the amount of evidence required to prove that what we call emotions are true we can and have assessed behaviours of other people and compared them. We can recognise that similar actions or circumstances trigger similar responses in people. In the case of Jesus and Christian God you have to provide evidence of how that PARTICULAR intelligent being exists.

Actually, I have no real problem with Paul (although I'm sure Jesus does) only with the deliberate mistranslations of a few of his terms and how bigots like you use the Bible as a weapon against others - like a Nazi.

@teriiura - Marriage clearly isn't something given by God or any God. Marriage occured in Ancient Egypt and in Ancient China. And these were societies that had their own Gods. But these arrangements were simply property contracts. The marriage of today is something that has been co-opted by Christianity.

I had a civil union 10-13-90 and i am still with my partner because I believe everyone should be allowed the same benefits a loving relationship offers...what it's called is another matter. I actually believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. I think the GLBT community made a huge mistake trying to redefine marriage. They should have focused on civil rights, not the name. I don't think the US is ready for anything more and I'm 50.

I also don't understand how you think Gay Marriage will produce 1000's of families considering that they can't procreate naturally. Lastly, just because the Bible gives examples of straight marriages of one man and multiple wives does not mean 1. The Bible doesn't say that a rich man will NOT get into heaven; it says that it's hard for him to get in, because he is trusting in his riches similar to a sodomite who is trusting in his sexual prefference rather than in God. I don't agree with Rick Warren on some issues, but I know this; the Bible (which you quoted) says that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that if you believe in your heart Jesus died to pay for your sins and rose from the dead, you will be saved. You can't enter Heaven if you insist on dragging something God names as a sin in with you. It would be a good idea to look to your own eternal destiny through turning from your sins and asking Jesus to be your savior and Lord.

So there are a few lines in the bible saying that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but the rest of the bible's main message is that we should love and accept everyone, no matter what they do or who they love. And that goes with all sins. Jesus is the One who said this, first rebuke them yourself, then take someone, then take it to the church if they still refuse to repent. If they still won't repent treat them as you would a non-Christian. The truth is we should be just as harsh with liars as homosexual offenders.

Leviticus was part of the old testament of which has a different scenario than our situation now. before things like eating lobsters were forbidden but now, as you read 1 Timothy 4:4-5 it says 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. now u see? go with the context analyze before saying anything.

You used the example of the abolition of slavery as an example of social change. you would do well to actually learn your history and then you would see that it was the Baptist and Methodist churches that spearheaded the abolitionist movement on the basis that ALL PEOPLE were created in the image of God and had inherent value based on that fact.
