he'll be 28 when his mother buys new candles. She buys candles that are in the shape of numbers. the first she will use one the 5th birthday of her son. the second when he's 6 years. the third when he's 7 and so on. the last one she will use when his son is 28. so for the 29th birthday, she needs to buy a new pack of candles but she has to buy the candles before the birthday when the sun is still 28.

I calculated it assuming stick candles, which, if I'm right, she would have enough until for his 12th some some remaining for his 13th.

But reading over some of the comments, if it's the candles that are actual numbers, than I don't know, because then why would it come in a 24 pack if there's only ten possible numbers?

she will never run out of candles! pandas don't have opposable thumbs! ; ). So how can she light them with matches or lighters. By the way.... she probably doesn't even own a lighter or matches so she probably never lights them. How long do pandas even live? Do panda pears even eat cake!?
