Fellow memphian. Everyone speeds there, as you say. The cops only need so many tickets a night to satisfy their lieutenants. You were speeding. You got caught. Big deal. When a cop tells you he's charging you for 40 in a 35, when you were actually going 45, he's really just making a blank sheet of paper to keep his bosses off his back and cutting you a break. It'll get dismissed. You're lucky you didn't get charged for the full amount and had to pay a fine. You're unlucky you were 'the guy'.

im from osceola, but ive been to memphis a few times and kinda know what youre talking about. yeah, nobody ever drives slow on that road that ive seen. i remember once, me and some friend were going to tunica, yeah im just 20 but shh!lol, and it was on elvis day, that was the only time ive seen anyone go remotely slow, and that was probably cause all the police barricades or whatever. i thnk they just get bored and pull random people over sometimes.

I go 35 on Union...I stay the speed limit going down the hill, use the brakes...they are not doing whatever they want: in a city of this size with an understaffed police department, officers do not have the ability to pull over every car on the street. They will pick up at least one. When someone sees the blues, the others slow down. The reaction people make to another being pulled over still slows them down and makes the roads safer.

I can't believe it! I got pulled over on Union too around Ike's for doing something over the speed limit and that police guy actually gave me a ticket! I mean, Lets get real! I work, go to church and have a degree and he STILL gave me a ticket! I told him who I was and who I knew. Who do the police think they are? Who gives THEM tickets? They can't just do what they want and us good citizens just take it! Just because I speed doesn't mean I deserve a ticket!!! The police should pay my ticket!

I got pulled over for going a little too fast going up a small hill. I stopped at the red light and everything. I may have gone like 5 or 10 miles over just to get up the hill. Didn't help it was at night and I was tired.

Five OR ten miles over the speed limit is dumb in my opinion. But this is coming froma speed demon. If you're gonna get pulled over... let it be for speeding like I was... 80+ in a 55... LOL! I got pulled over last year for going 70 in a 45... that cop was pissed! LOL! Oh he was MAD! Got off his bike with his hand on his gun... then I was pissed! He apoligized for that too... when he ran my info and it came back squeaky clean! You'll come out squeaky clean in this too! No worries!

The fact that it is the end of the month probably had some part in it. A girl I worked with, her dad was is a police, and they DO have a monthly ticket quota they must meet, and that is why you see more people pulled over at the end of the month.
