this was probably really helpful but i hate techno and couldnt listen to the track on it. Thanks for postin help, but i just cant get down with techno.

Guys, what is the best way to master tracks? ..is it by exporting in a wave file then mastering it and export it again in 16 bit wave file(as many people prefer) .....but i see that it's kinda random to master the whole file ..i tried and it ended up good for the whole mix but with little squashed snares and kicks and other fx. maybe mastering and mixing in the same time is better?( in a way better than in this video which i see he just raised up the volume) ? what's your say ?
@xlive4electro That's what mastering is, gently massaging the finished mix (2 channels) to bring up the levels and to make sure it sounds decent on car radios, ipods and laptops and on a proper hifi stereo, as opposed to just sounding good on your monitors. The mix should be finished first, if you're fiddling with different instruments/channels then you're still mixing. Get the mix sounding good first, then export it and master it separately. If things start sounding ugly you're overdoing it.
this guy doesn't have a clue what he's doing.. all he did was make everything louder, all the tracks are still sonically fighting for space with one another. He didn't pan any instruments or use any reverb or delay to create any depth.. when he plays this so called mixed and mastered beat on any other stereo system (like a car) its gonna sound like str8 garbage.
@Stackxxable Lol and then he used a multi-band compressor after Maximus (which is a multi-band compressor)...definition of madness. Unfortunately it ended up sounding a lot better, so no real complaints there :) I think some explanations would've been useful for peeps
@arakrazy yea seriously.. i mean for beats especially with only like 8 instruments he has its not hard to mix, but what im saying is he totally went the wrong way about doing it lol.. you cant just slap compressors on the master buss and call it a day. it may have semi worked for this but (i still think it only sounds better because its louder, instead of actually clearer). and maybe i will post a video doing it the right way ill have to get a video camera.
Thanks mate, you helped me a lot with this. I use the Stereo Shaper instead of the Stereo Enhancer to switch delay and phase a bit for a wider sound. Check me out if you want.
This some good shit! I've been told my beats were good but just needed to learn to master so sounds weren't louder then others....Check out some of my beats to
Because you have tactile control. You operate more than one switch at once, whereas using the internal mixer you have to do it one mouse click at a time. It's a preference thing, but I personally like it. External mixers are also not all expensive, there are some solid ones that are less than 500.
@kawasakikid800 real professional audio engineer often use analog mixer because you can't get the tha sound you get from an analog mixer with like a waves eq, it's impossible but it will sou´nd great anyway ;)
@kawasakikid800 You buy a mixer to plug in analog and MIDI external devices, then you get the analog warmth in sound as well as the ability to mix them. You use a software mixer for ease of access, and the possibility in manipulating sound in a brighter manner. It's really just about preference and honestly it's not bad to use both. You can route a software mixer to your on board mixer so when you raise a volume knob on the on board mixer it raises up on the digital mixer.
@kawasakikid800 if ever decide on recording vocals you might want to consider an external mixer. you'll never get the same quality as a lets say a behringer x1204 than a internal sound card from you desktop computer lol
@ShawnyBoeDeepCBoy you have use fl 10. Go on mixer and on effect options (left up corner) and from menu go on view and choose waweforms. Or just open mixer and alt+w
Can i ask for a request? I have this one beat but its not like dubstep or anything and i wanna rap to it but i need to make it more like a rap/hiphop type of beat can you do that for me?
@XPiRiMiNT yep. While in the mixer hold down alt and press w. Longer way is to go to the drop down arrow on the top left of the mixer and go to view and click 'waveforms'
@mocharizma Bro, that's not gonna work. I understand there is hundreds of tutorials on how to make dubstep out there, but most won't teach you anything except how to make wobbles. Dubstep is a very hard genre to learn and usually it comes with natural talent. If your new to electronic music you should go for trance, techno, house etc. They CAN be taught and aren't that hard to learn. Good luck ;D

@Trillvil1 Yeah that's it, Click the little bar/light between the sequencer and instrument button, or just click the instrument. But if you want to link multiple channels to the same track, hold shift and click on the little green bar of the channels you want linked
Once you have all your channels selected, go to the mixer, select the track, and hit Ctrl+L
@Trillvil1 when you drag a sound or a vst into the pattern sequence..you have to click the box for for the sound and in the top right hand corner of the box you will see a little box that says fx..then just scroll and pick what channel you want to set to the mixer.
i know this has nothing to do with mastering, but what software do you use to record sounds from your computer without using a mic, ive been trying to find some software which does that for ages and i cant,
@ValcanicBeatz The perfect way to know what sidechaining is is to just make a melody and then place it in a mixer track and add gross beat to it. Bottom left is side chain. Play the melody, this is the explanation of sidechaining.

@Mega12475 I'm assuming your commenting on putting a compressor on the master track. Yes it is fine to do so. All albums today are mastered through some multiband comp. And you are in a way correct. Compressing the master is fine as long as you mix the tracks properly before mastering. Otherwise, you could lose all dynamics and the compression on a loud drum and loud instrumentals could clash with each other and cancel each other out.
@BestRogueEu Depends on what your intentions are for the track. For home mixing fine, but if you are planing on releasing a track when you get to the mastering stage it's better to send an uncompressed file to the engineer who will do this for you. Also contrary to the other response you had, it's not compression that makes a mix loud, it's limiting that does. Focus on getting the mix right first and formost.

@dacads It's in the drop down in the mixer, it's a new feature in FL Studio 10. Go to View in the drop down menu and choose Wider channels, Wave View, or Regular
I don't get what your doing when your side chaining, i know what side chain compression is but your not linking anything to the volume all you do is add a compressor?
@festek I know what you mean. But, if you mix your track correctly, the track will sound a lot better, even wihout adding anything in the master channel. And, you can always master your track afterwards. WaveLab is a good mastering software. I recommend it!

@BestRogueEu je confirme aussi, ça enrobe ta compo justement, tu nettoi et corrige les hautes et basses fréquences grâce à ça.

dacads 10 months ago
@dacads It's in the drop down in the mixer, it's a new feature in FL Studio 10. Go to View in the drop down menu and choose Wider channels, Wave View, or Regular

mcscena 11 months ago
@mcscena hmm actually no. but this setting will give you some loudness to your tracks.
Agniveshbaghel 10 months ago
@mcscena check my song "Contemplations", I did it with FL studio. Let me know if you want me to post a vid showing you how.

I don't get what your doing when your side chaining, i know what side chain compression is but your not linking anything to the volume all you do is add a compressor?
Inphanity 11 months ago
@Inphanity i linked the channel at 1:14
Agniveshbaghel 11 months ago
@Agniveshbaghel So you just click on the channel you want to side chain from (kick drum) and then click "enable send from kick to (example: Pad)"
It would say that in the top left when you hover the button you clicked right?
Inphanity 11 months ago
@Inphanity watch my sidechain tutorial for avoiding any confusions

Haha, this guy was all over the place....
The only useful tip I got was to use more of the vst presets

How do you change the display in the mixer channels?
hughcronic 1 year ago
@hughcronic you'll need to have fl 9.6 or later for this look
Agniveshbaghel 1 year ago
@Agniveshbaghel Nice figured out you can also donwload skins that will also chnage the color of not just the peak meter but your whole interface
hughcronic 1 year ago
Great tutorial, but i'm using FL Limiter and T-racks on the Master Channel :)
I used to use Limiter & Compressor with the same preset
and before all this i simply used Maximus and EQ'ed the whole track
Thank you! :)
festek 1 year ago
@festek I often use Fruity's Soft Clipper on the master channel, and nothing more! Works fine for me.
weepingpirate 1 year ago
@weepingpirate but without any of what i mentioned, i find the sound in the end really low. Unlike tracks made by professionals.
festek 1 year ago
@festek I know what you mean. But, if you mix your track correctly, the track will sound a lot better, even wihout adding anything in the master channel. And, you can always master your track afterwards. WaveLab is a good mastering software. I recommend it!
weepingpirate 1 year ago
Nice tut, But i dont get why your peaking so much, Turn the gain down a weeee bit <3
alexxj220 1 year ago
@alexxj220 it was peaking at the beginning of this video just to show how to fix it. at the end it is not peaking :)
