@rminister1971 I began collecting when I was about 9 years of age and since then have gotten some good contacts.... this is something that I've always wanted to do.
@nzoz1980 ... In the 70's Ross did the soundtrack for an Aussie take on The Wizard of Oz. I think the movie was just called OZ.. Wondered if you have "Living In The Land of Oz" from that. Also had early Jo Jo Zep on the soundtrack doing an Otis Redding cover from memory
@wonsworld61 It was the Chris Lofven movie 'Oz'. I don't have that track, unfortunately.... I only got the Jo Jo Zep song 'Beating Around The Bush' on my nzoz1976 channel.
sweetwaters 1983 new zealand...michael chugg (frontier tours Sydney AUS) brings it all down under, 120 bands.....oh the memories.. inxs, ausi crawl, eurythmics, talking headsand the list went on
Ross Wilson looks really pretty in this clip... great song... I think those who vote for Rick's version are a little clouded by familiarity... truly this is the best version... sorry Rick fans.
My wife and I will be celebrating our thirtieth wedding anniversary in September and we always considered this to be our song. We fell in love listening to it and we still dance together listening to it. Thanks so much to Ross and the boys from Mondo Rock you will always have a special place in our hearts.
Today it would be even harder to work things out by 6 pm to 7am because your girlfriend would be on facebook, twitter, texting her friends on her mobile phone, watching masterchef and cooking a meal while listening to her ipod leaving you with just 4.00am - 7.am to "work things out"..... still waiting for a girl who could guarantee me 6.pm - 7.am UNOBSTRUCTED to work things out !!!!!!
wow I am a loooooong time Rick Springfield fan, but this original is really good too. They both have their merits, don't bash Springfield's version just because he remade it, they say imitation is the highest form of flattery. It is a beautiful song no matter who does it.
This is a beautiful song, it speeks volumes to me. Sends a shiver down my spine. I think Mondo Rock's guitarist, Eric McCusker penned this classic. I look upon Rick Springfield's version of this song as Rick just tipping his hat to Mondo Rock. A great Australian song.
I think I like Rick Springfield's version better (this one is like the aural equivalent of Valium), but if I ONLY had heard this version, I'd like it...
Ricks version is cheap and hollow. Only someone sufferring from ADD would rate ricks impatient and ultimately frustrated mess over this careful and deep rendition.
@slorta my thoughts exactly... on a musical level, every moment of this version is considered and crafted... when the US release of this single was edited and didn't impress radio DJ's (you know, the same guys that push the 'quality' stuff), thus failing... so, the rest of the world knows Rick's very washed down and in my mind, forgettable version.
I'm not the biggest fan of Mondo Rock, but I know when a band labours over a song...
@slorta If you say so, though THAT comment is of the genre of "people who don't like [fill in your fave artist] are retarded" (as if tastes in music a 100% objective and expect EVERYBODY'S taste to be exactly the same - Some people say things like "if you don't belong to the religion I'm in and believe EXACTLY what I believe, than it is an inceontestible fact that you are going to hell.") Mondo Rock's version IS obviously well-laboured over. I just prefer it a bit faster.
@nzoz1980 :-) No, not like fast food (which appears NOT to be fast food, unfortunately, these days - just all of the empty calories and none of the haste in serving it; it sppears Jack isn't too hungry for his fried egg on his hamburger, he prefers to get fat at his leisure)... more like "intestinal hurry", but this version IS interesting, and the fact that it wasn't huge in (North) America obviously makes this superior by default... :-)
@shmuli9 this is the original its better than ricks so called version. always the original artists that was made for them can do it better. example is lady written by lionel ritchie sung by kenny rodgers, the song was written for kenny , ive herd ritchie sing it and it doesnt have the same feeling,
1st time listening to this, aside from the million times on mums old cassette of mix awesome songs from the 80s. This is awesome. You tube time machine!
There's just something special about Aussie rock music, especially tracks from the 80's. Thanks for the postings, they bring back wonderful memories of a time in our lives when these tracks defined who we became.
ross is the boss! I remember the lounge lizards tour with ross, angry anderson and doc neeson with angels as backing band. went off at the metro in sydney when one of the three was singing the others were sitting back on a lounge on stage listening to the tunes-great times
I have ever only known this song of Rick Springfield's version... and this is the first time to listen the original! their voices are really really great. Thank you for posting!!
They were a good commercial unit - they had other hit songs, before and after this. Another band with internationl potential that didn't have the enthusiasm to reach outside Australia.
Ah, my favorite college era romance tune ! that and the Tubes " I don't want to wait anymore " ! Another great Aussie band like Men at Work. Great vocal, lyrics, clothes, band, studio production, and all done in the pre computer age too ! Wish more bands today had this much class and musical talent. Proof that most life devolves and not evolves after it reaches its peak ! Sue me for being nostalgic, but where did we go from here ? Save us Aussie Rockers !
listening to all these classics takes my back to my childhood growing up in the newcastle beach area. And also think back on the friends that have come and gone from our lives. Thanks nzoz1980
I remembered migrating to Australia listening to this and riding in Falcon GL box shaped sedans around Brissy. Queen Street was still a street where cars drove right through it and there was a set of lights where the jojos is situated.
Ohh yes, the old backseat days ...i remember in the back seat of my ol' 66 Valiant - it was vinyl and had no seat belts, that's all that happened in mine !
THis has to be one of the most romantic songs ever written. I don't suppose you know if this group actually wrote this song or if it was someone else? :) This person is brilliant.
i listen to this, and i just magically drift off back to 1980 and remember & feel that era again - almost like i'm actually still there ! ( incl, getting the strap at school) lol
"No Time" - Was another tune of theirs that does the same thing.
Sux you
