  • Pretty bird-like song - very melodic and exotic. 5*

  • does anyone know when it was invented ? ( except the legend )

  • That is too cool. First time I have ever seen a dan bau. He has a wonderful touch with it.

  • Reminds me, in both the way it is played and the way it sounds, of a theremin .

  • It funny you should say that...

I went to the concert last Thursday because one of the musicians in the performance played the theremin.

I saw the theremin for the first time last June at the Montreal Jazz Festival. When I saw the advertisement for last week's concert it mentioned the dan bou but it was the theremin that caught my attention.

  • that's so beautiful, Lew. Thanks for posting. This man is surely a master.

  • Beautiful one stringed instrument...reminds me of a diddley bow.

  • Correction, I see now it's harmonics but not artificial harmonics (need a fret board to do that) but just the same, a harmonic instrument is amazing!

  • Is he making artificial harmonics with the side of his hand??? Wowsers....harmonics of any kind are usually there to pretty it up. I never would have guessed there was an instrument that was based on harmonics, especially artificial harmonics. I'm in awe!

  • Goodness....see what a love of music can do...lead us into so many fascinating directions. What am unusual instrument....with a single string!

  • Hello

    Lew...

What a unique-sounding instrument! Many thanks for introducing it to me by way of this wonderful demonstration by Mr. Huu Bac.

    Pax,

    Max
