Wow. This video is so sad. I got to 3:14 and saw that one pic and i was in tears. My pit, Daisy, was sitting on the floor next to me and i saw this and started to tear up. i dont think people who dogfight need to be locked away for life but I do think the punishment should be slightly harsher than 4 months unsupervised probation for an act that is premeditated and calculated. People need more than a slap on the hand. And dogs that fight naturally in the wild rarely get beyond snarling, teeth bearing and hackle raising because dogs know their place in the pack and confrontations are merely to establish the pecking order. But as long as we continue to promote breeding "stronger bloodlines" or to simply prove which dogs are best in the ring, then we are continueing to deny the real issues.

dogfighting is like a game to some of these dogs. In fact, I believe Jeep was fighting this dog and the match took 45 minutes because jeep was just playing around with the other dog and was just having so much fun. Regardless, it is very rare for a dog to die in a fight.. 9/10 times the owner will pick his dog up if it might die. These dogs enjoy it, the same way foxhounds enjoy hunting foxes.

Just look at these dogs in this video. Most of them look very skinny and and poorly in shape. A real dog fighter loves his dog and WILL NOT let the dog be skinny. Skinny=Weak. The dog should be 99% muscle and coniditioned before it fights and cared for properply. Just shows that this video is about STREET dogfighting. With no rules. But with real dogfighting.. Injured or not it is not acceptable. Having a dog that could threaten other dogs, people or animals because it was trained and bred to, cannot be tolerated. If we allow this to happen there will be a lot of innocent lives taken. These dogs DO get damaged this badly, and not all of the dogs in this video were fighting dogs, obviously, some were probably bait dogs. No animal enjoys suffering or confrontation beyond establishing dominance. Staged dogfighting is a TASK not an instinct. It's something a pit bull is trained to do...or for the sake of argument, lets say ENCOURAGED. But its all the same. If all pit bulls LOVE to fight why is it that when I take my female 1 yr old pit bull to the dog park, she doesnt run and attack other dogs? Because she's trained not to. I have never personally witnessed a dog fight, but, from what I hear, read and see, they aren't exactly in the best condition, and don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, because I have personally seen victims of dogfighting, as I am a foster at our animal shelter and work at a dog grooming/care place almost everyday.

bait dogs are used when training dogs. Before a dog is enrolled in a keep it has to be determined whether or not that dog is game enough. To cultivate (BRING OUT) it's true gameness, it is put through a series of "game tests" with other dogs. They start off with dogs that are less agressive and less game to build the training dogs confidence. Thats a bait dog and YES they do exist. No myth here.

The *real* problem with this breed is overpopulation. If people would stop backyard breeding every cute pet pit bull or yard kept pit bull, they wouldn't be the disposable commodity that they exist as today. Some of the pics on this video were of healthy APBTs sitting in shelters, as contrast to the actual fighting photos. I probably looked at 200 purebred APBTs sitting on deathrow at 3 shelters last week, none were "fighting dogs". All were euthanized due to overpopulation and liability issues.

The dogmen of the old days matched dogs to(believe it or not) better the breed.
