  • 27:37 you could have pushed pawn up to g4 moving the rook to h3 and then move up your king trapping the rook

  • 7:30 you could have moved pawn up to h3 kicking the knight then move up your g3 pawn up attacking the queen then move up your g3 pawn once again and winning the knight in h6

  • 13:02 Why didn't you fork his knight and bishop with your d6 pawn?

  • @mexicanmansam Because it is impossible to fork them? :) you cant move it two forward anymore, its already moved.

  • At 15:40 after you moved bishop. why didn't opoonent take queen?

  • @DarrylChang Because he checked with the bisschop :)

  • @IVIasterIVIind Thanks, didn't see that.

  • 06:17: hello i want to know what you think about a1 to e1 to prepare the push e3 to e4. The queen can now go to c2 and and the black can have some problems if we push d5 or e5 later. Just want to say that i am a 1600 players and not a 2000 player so maybe those moves can make you lose ;)

  • 26:38 to 29:00... Watching that was absolute torture for me. I was screaming "PAWN G4!!!!! G4 G4 G4!!!" lol. I guess I'm not that great of a chess player but it seems to me like you could have trapped that rook. Right at 26:38. When he moves his rook down in between the two squares that your F3 knight were attacking, then you could have simply moved your king up one, threatening the rook and taking it with an early advantage. I can't see how that plan could have failed, second opinions?

  • @pipebrother uhh, its a good thought, its just that it concentrates too much over moving important pawns protecting the king, which really tends to get iffy when you know you have 2 pawns in the same file.it is an OK move, but i think that simply leaving the rook alone, pretty much in a useless position is just as much killing it as any. just try not to think solely on the rook capture, there are many other moves that could be really good from that position.

  • jrobi you have awesome chess videos. you explain them so well.

  • when you tossed your knight a bit back and forth between c3-a4, wouldn't it have been an idea to move pawn to e4 ... should be able to chase black Queen into a more inactive possision, prehaps even giving you a shot at trapping it.

  • there u missed g4 and kg2

  • At 14:36, you played Qa4. Why didn't your opponent play Bxd6?

  • @alinusD Kg2 should trap it

  • Sorry if this sounds really stupid, but at 2:11 why couldn't you do Ne5?

  • I still don't understand why people would dislike your videos.

  • @kbcw123456 I didn't dislike it personally, but I don't think I'm the only one who got frustrated by watching jrobi pondering a positional knight move for 4 minutes in a blitz game. Sort of.

  • Qc7!! LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @27:41 you could trap the rook with g4 :p

  • @Svecify Rh3.

  • In the second game what about Kb4 do you think that would have been a better move

  • In the first game why didnt you move Ke5 that would have forked the queen and the bishop

  • what's your ELO rating?

  • great job keep going :D

but at 28:10 what about instead of rb1-rc1you'd played this (1.g4 Rh3 2.Kg2 ) a rook for a knight? sorry if iam missing anything i am still kinda new :)

  • @MRT2103 I was watching this video and saw the same thing. I cant rly understand why jrobi didnt see this.(I'm kinda new aswell! :D )

  • Iove the epic Nc3-a4-c3-a4-c3 manuvre :D

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who has mouse slips.

  • jrob your not a blitz guy tbh u should just post standard timed games so you don't from time limit

  • Why are you taking so long to move?? Maybe you should stick to standard games.

  • You should do more blitz games

  • i dont know but isnt Nd5 instead of Qxc4 at a1:47 better , good vids jrobi by the way

  • hey jrobi I wanted to thank you for making these videos, it is really fun to look how you are playing, but I think you missed something... you even mentioned it " maybe I can trap the rook here... in the last game (26:47) you was able to play g4 rh3 kg2...

and 2 minutes later (28:52) it is still possible :D anyways... great viedeos, I hope you keep having fun with chess and... bye bye :D

  • Can anyone tell which software is used here to analyze a game?

  • @desecho8653 It's the free internet chess server. I have a video on how to get setup there as well as which interface I use. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • @desecho8653

    Babachess with crafty engine

    V12 Turbo

  • at around 16:15, why didn't u move knight to b4, and he takes ur queen, u take his, and then his rooks are forked?

  • @TheOtherNoob Because of Nxb4.

  • what analyse settings do you use ?

  • Hi jrobi.....I wanted to know how to put up videos longer than 10 minutes on youtube. I currently have 11 chess tactics videos, but they are all less than 10 minutes due to the youtube time limits.

  • @arkbird23 You need to be a Youtube Partner.. You need lots of views, lots of subscribers, lots of videos, good quality, etc..

  • lol @ babas option "The boss!" which hides it all away :D

  • Great video after some time jrobi:) hope to see more lessons again as well:P

  • I can't play 5 minute games because I spend way too much time thinking and end up in the same position as you. Glad you put out another video!

  • The thing that surprised me most was that you actually use your time to think (if not overthinking). Usually when I do standard, I play what i feel is natural and use my time to either work out tactics, or facepalm myself for doing useless moves.

  • I think you could have won his rook at 26:49 by playing g4, and when the rook goes to h3 attacking it with king to g2? I think your opponent saw this and that is why he played pawn to h6 further down the line.

  • Thanks for posting this. I find your real time thinking processes very helpful. Blitz games are a great format for that as the pressure is on hee hee. I hope to see more of these. Thanks again for posting.

  • I think playing 5-minute blitz games or 10-minute, 15-minute games are good for the average player because then you have more imagination on the chess board.

  • Great video, where can I find that server and is it free?

Love your chess videos, helps me improve my game!!!

  • he's too slow

  • I just stumbled across your videos today and I really like them. They're very fun and involved, plus some great insight. Keep posting, great work! :D

  • 4:19 why not Knight to D5 ? Am I really missing something ?

  • @ForYeensSake idk, but it looks as though there's a pawn on black protecting that square. So you'd lose the knight. :S

  • @HailToTheMail I mean black knight to D5 sry for bad timing (so few moves earlier)

  • Hey, nice to see you putting up videos again. Pretty good for blitz considering how long you were gone. About the second game though, I have to say you're mighty bold for playing e5. I'm always frightened of giving d5 to my opponent in those lines, but it was a nice attacking idea though.

And I think you did good in NOT playing Qg4 at 16:30 in the second game. e5! from Black would've been pretty strong I think. You can't take because he's threatening the Nf6+ fork, which would win your queen.

  • so when you said it was a stonewall it actually really wasnt...stonewall formation is f4 / d4 Be3 stuff...c4 vs the sicilian is more of whats known as a maroczy bind...however the order that white played it in that game black can totally avoid the bind

  • Can't believe you didn't see Ne5 forking queen and bishop.

  • More please! It's like sitting behind a master player and listening in to his thoughts.

  • great idea a live chess game very entertaing!!

  • great vid and nice games! definitely agree with all the comments below in that your commentary is superb and doing it live is quite awesome. Thanks for recording and posting these videos and taking the time to do commentary while sacrificing those precious seconds! I don't play chess as much as I'd like to so this is a cool way for me to learn :D

  • Hi jrobi, in many gui, including Babas, if you see a forced move you can play your move before your opponent moves; e.g. in your second game, when you play Ng4, you know that you'll have to take back with your bishop if he takes your Knight -> you can already play your answer ... Bxg4 because it will be a forced move and will never be a blunder.

Good idea to comment your games live, should help you to improve your games because you have to justify what you're doing but you're losing on time!

  • What software do you use to film your games like this? And what is that other software you usually use with the brown board?

  • I could beat your website chess program at the first attempt, are u able to tell me approximatly what is my level? thank you very much (I just know you ´ll reply)

  • Good job, these downloads, Jrobi! Glad to see you find the time to post videos again. Thank you!

  • 27:48 whay cant you play g4?

  • At around 15:00-15:30, I was thinking about moving the knight to d4, threatening the queen and then looking at a fork with the rooks. What about it?

Also at 18:50, moving the queen to a5.

    Just some amateur's thoughts.

  • Great to see you back! This was another very well done video, and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

  • How are you able to go over the ten minute limit?

  • I don't understand you playing blitz, losing on time and not thinking about better time management, just saying " I don't mind losing on time if I play a decent game". Time management is part of competetive chess.

  • You should post some standard time control games jrobi

  • HAHAHA ! Queen to C7 in that second game was *HILARIOUS*! You made my day sweetheart. That was adorable!

  • pawn to g4 and no matter where the rook moves say h3 (the only safe square) the king can trap it by moving to g2.....it is a bit opening to the kingside though.....

  • I really like your videos man and I learned alot from you. I really like this video because your playing a live game and giving us your insight as you play and it gives us a feel for what to think about when we are playing. thank you very much. oh yea also I would like to play you online one day if that wouldn't be to hard. thanks again

  • Thanks for the great commentary!19:59 was really funny!

  • Hey, welcome back! I enjoy your vids! Please do the immortal game coverage! ...and more famous games by the way... and more tuition vids. Anything! Love it! Keep it up!

  • hey jrobi, what free chess server do u use? i like that u can analyze your games quickly on your's

  • @iPLAYgb Free Internet Chess Server with the Babas interface. I have a video on how to use it. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • @jrobichess how is the video called

  • @jrobichess I love Baba's!

  • very good vid try to alk about new things you learn from each game that will help you gt much better and increase your views. =)

  • nice vid but why didn't you push the g pawn his rook was traped it woulda dropped?

    Game 3 BTW

  • You're a good player, but it's more than a little frustrating watching you play as if it were a 15+min game rather than blitz. As YOU of ALL players know, blitz is more about feel and making good positional moves than making the PERFECT move as you seem to always want to do. But it doesn't matter because even if you DID play PERFECT, you still lose on time! lol I love your vids and your game j, so don't get me wrong here. I just wish that you'd adapt a bit more, that's all. Much love man! -JS

  • Your not alone on misclicking. 4 people also misclicked the dislike button

  • Great to you posting again. Keep it up (Y)

  • I know these games are under timer, and I can't play at these levels.. hehe. But I noticed the rook on H5 seemed hopelessly lost if you pressured it.

After the queens are off (3rd game) and black plays pawn to b6... wouldn't a g4 pawn push win the rook?

His options are to take the g5 pawn (same material is exchanged) but he loses a preferable rook in the end-game AND you double up his pawns. If Rh3, you nudge your king to g2 and it should win the exchange.

    anything there?

  • @Grunvagr I saw that too and thought it was too good to be true. (Ha-Ha)

  • Nxb4axb4 and you have alot of quuen side attacks

  • and also Qe2 to e6 check is very strong for him. a6 was the best move perhaps but not just to protect that knight move but also to attack with Rb8 threatning b5 expanding on the queen side and if he tries to protect with a4 which looks good then your knight to b4 would be crushing evicting that queen away from protecting that backward pawn which is holding white center pawns so you would be already underminding it and if in the near future he would try to remove that knight awaywith sayA5 and b6

  • Jrobi Qd8 you must do that! if Qg4 h3 Qd7 and you see your weak b6 square coming to with Nb6 and if Qc6 Nc7 also forking queen and rook and if Qc8 your queen is still forked with your rook on b6...and if Qh5 then i think e5!! would really be a strong move cuz he block the bishops access to f6 so his threatning Nf6 with a royal forkand taking on d6 materialisticly or i think even better perhaps just e6 after you defend the fork weakening your king alt and threatning to double on the e file Busted

  • Welcome back jrobi, and please try to stay with us! We missed you alot!

  • at 26:50, after Bg7 pawn g4 traps the rook? Great video as always! :)

  • I like your standard time videos better. Although you can play very good blitz, I just find your more of a long term planner , which takes time to caculate all that. I mean those first two games, you didn't even realize you had less than 10 sec left. I guess that could be rust, though as you amped it up the 3rd game, nice game btw. But everyone does Blitz, it's nice seeing the longer games, since you have the you tube subscribtion to actually make a 30+ minute video. Great to have u back jrobi!

  • First game, lots of Queenside movement it seemed with Black preparing some dangerous moves so close to your King. Lot of time spent moving Na5? which does nothing to improve your current position or game in general. Better is Nh4 attacking the Queen. Nearly forced might be...Qd3; Rd1...Qa6; b5...cxb5...etc...which gains tempo on the Queen several times, continues to develop your position on the dark squares, and also now doubles Black's pawns on the b file. IMO, Ra7 works 2 I believe. G2CU back!

  • @JohnnySkillish Sorry- Na4?

  • When the computer analyzes your moves and displays -0.50 for example, what does it mean ? Bad move (most likely imo) ? Good one ?

Btw, sorry for jrobi for losing on time, i find it always infuriating especially if you have the advantage....

  • I don't remember this from your earlier videos, but during the first 2 games here, I was struck by how much disadvantage you put yourself at by analyzing the game for our benefit as you play it. Maybe it was, as you say, just "rust," and you'd have been slow or indecisive even if you weren't narrating. But I can't help thinking you hurt your chances by trying to educate us AND play at the same time. Do these losses hurt your standing? If so, you are sacrificing for us.

  • thanks for the vid man

  • Great video!! No one commentates like you man.

  • At 15:27 I like the move Nd4 over Be5. That hits the queen and also eyes up Nxf3, winning a pawn while forking King/Rook, as well as Nc2, forking the rooks. The knight can't be kicked by a pawn there and it would be a much more useful piece than its d5 counterpart. White would be forced on the defensive and you could go for h5-h4 and the like. White has no time to attack the hanging d6 pawn and if the flank attack failed you can place your rooks on the e- and d-files.

  • EPIC commentating skills

  • Nxc5 at 31:14?

He responds by capturing with rook, then you take the free pawn.

  • Glad to see you back. Also glad to see im not the only one who looses on time lolz

  • I got anxiety from watching that clock dwindle down

  • i think for a few moves before and after you traded the Queens, you could have won the rook(for the Knight) by playing g4 then Rh3, followed by Kg2 Rxf3 Kxf3.

anyway, thumbs up! i enjoy your vid's a lot.

  • I enjoyed the video. At the end of the last game, when you were up the exchange and a few pawns, I would have just used the rook to keep his king away from the queenside. He was paralyzed on the kingside with his doubled pawns...not that it made a difference, you had a won position.

  • yay!!! new video =)

  • I was worried that you lost interest in chess . . . thanks for the upload.

  • great commentary as always, the intro to your videos is awesome

  • I personally think you should try to do blitzes whenever you can like kingscrusher does on his youtube. I usually check them out when its late ;)

  • Hehe. You're definitely rusty! It happens to the best of us. I suggest you study your endgames a lot more. Your endgame play in that last video left a lot to be desired (this coming from an endgame specialist!). Great videos, keep them up, and all that good stuff.

    DVS

  • u r a bit stubborn w/ plans u make once u have sth u tend keep working towards it no matter how the position changes this leads to u missing better options along the way it's not that good to have only one plan that u expect ur opponent to eventually follow i dunno if that's the way u play blitz but one thing for sure it's definitly bad to wait for stuff to fall into ur plan u've seen more master games than i have so u should realize this versatility a lot better. nevertheless nice presentation

  • 13:03 - ... Be6 actually appears to encourage white to play Nd5, as the response ...Nxd5 would lead to white forking a bishop and knight with a pawn. I do see the computer approved, but I would've played Bxe2; if white makes a mistake and takes your bishop with his rook, then you can fork rook and queen with Nd4.

  • Regarding your first game, I usually prefer bringing the bad bishop to g5 for that very reason, he was stuck worthless in the corner all game behind your strong pawn chain. : (

  • What website are you playing your games on?

  • @schneidy81 freechess[dot]org

  • @28:19 g2-g4 would have trapped and won his rook

  • @mac10688 i saw that too, but he could move his rook to safety on h3; the pawn would no longer be defending that square. The way jrobi has it now makes his opponent's rook useless as of now.

  • @hestafer then he just brings his king to g2 and black is unable to defend the position

  • at 31:50 - 32:00 you do know what you've said right jrobi?

  • In the 1st game it would've been a better strategy to push to trade off queen, either through pushing b5. Your pieces were primarily on the queenside; the pawn minority attack would've led to an advantageous endgame for you. Your kingside pawn structure is very solid, but you would have good play against his b or c pawn, whichever one remains after he reacts to b5. Also, if he pushes c5 in reaction to b5, you will end up with a better passer on b5 b/c ur queen is behind it.

  • Dang, 33 minutes of great chess commentary. Thanks jrobi!

  • Btw take a look at >>> knight d4 <<< move at 14:36 when his bishop takes b4 you move you queen, and after that maybe going to f3 with an atack powered by the queen later on? dunno whether computer likes the move....

  • gr8 video Jrobi as always, can you just tell me what you analyze your games with? I'm playing on FICS and using Babas aswell but i have no clue how to analyze the game afterwards? is it something from Babas you can use to analyze? or is it something totaly different?

  • 19:56 MAN i felt the pain on that one! :D

  • is that a web site your playing on or a game? and either way can someone give me the name

  • Y're back wiiii !!!

  • Ne5 at 1:56?

  • Very nice video, ive missed these vids.. good job for being rusty ^^

  • That was great! Please, more clips like this one.

  • You should make more live chess videos.

  • I've tried to watch a lot of chess video makers' videos; greencastleblock, kingscrusher, etc.. None of them I enjoy as much as your videos! So keep being active, love the blitz

  • At 1:47 you could have played Ne5! and won the bishop pair.

  • At 15:11 i think a better move would be knight to d4 forcing the queen to move and givine the knight opportunity for forking the king and the rook or both rooks probably, but uhm well most probably he would move to d1. anyway a good square for a knight while blocking at some point your bishop. Good vid anyway

  • wow id love to play you once ur back to strength, ur moves are identical to what mine would be except u take a lil longer to move them (which is expected since uv been off for a lil while) ur really good m8, u must be 1900-2000 rating?

  • I really liked watching you play games live. Would you consider making more videos like this? It helps to see another player's thought process as he plays.

  • Love your videos!

  • always great to see your videos dude

  • 14:37 What's protecting d6? That pawn's hanging.

16:55 It's a good thing you decided against ...Qg4. White responds with e5! cutting off your dark-squared bishop and threatening Nf6+

  • Its really cool that you talk over games while you play them. Most of the popular video game commentators talk over games that they know are already good, but you have no way of knowing whether you will win or lose which I think takes balls and shows your level of comfort with the game.

  • @Icecubesapimp Thanks Ice - I appreciate that!

  • Comment removed

  • @Icecubesapimp that's right, and he's got BALLS OF STEEL!

  • @Icecubesapimp actually most play live blitz

  • What's the site you play on? I haven't played in ages. Your videos on the world championship have given me the urge to start up again.

  • Good video, I think you should check out other options before moving. I saw some great moves that would of won you easy material. Good video.

  • @Fiends4 Definitely share any ideas that you might have tactically. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • @DeizelMassacre Thanks!

  • I really enjoyed watching these games. Thanks!

  • @kojiki1976 Thanks for the feedback K!

  • omg u teach really good but ur not a good good playeer

  • Seems like you wasted a lot of moves with the knight going back and forth from a4. But hey 5 minutes to think will do that.

  • @joeyjoejoejrshabidu Yeah it was a waiting move in the position - looking back I should have looked for quicker avenues to coordinate the knight and bishop and also to get the king out of that pin quicker. Was a decent position to work from either way but the time got to me.

  • g 4 at 27:25

  • Yay! Glad to have another video from you.

  • @iovandrake Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • It's been way tooooo long jrobi!

  • You had more material (pawns) in the end of the third game, going for promotion might have worked.

  • @lothrazar Definitely lots of options there - thanks for checking out the vid!

  • oh yeah baby, here we go again, CHESS!!!

  • Jrobi, at around 31:14, can't you sacc the rook on b7, taking the b6 pawn, then move your knight to d6+, and forking the rook, then take the rook so you have 2 connected passed pawns, vs 1 bishop? It's not the greatest, but I like pawn endgames.

  • By the way JRobi, in game #3, you might have played g4 followed by Kg2, trapping the rook, at 27:47

I'm not sure if it works, but the rook sure was awkwardly placed.

  • FINALY!!!

  • Awsome videos. I am wondering if you could do a video on the Hippo defence. If you can't it's no problem but it a defence I have always been curious about.

  • You've alive! I was worried about you. Welcome back. :-P

  • @CanadaMMA Thanks C!

  • in the second game...its good you didnt play Qg4 afte the pawn move, Qd7 losses the exchange in a knight fork

  • At 14:45, ccan't white's bishop take your epawn?

  • @calvinhobbesliker2 you mean the d pawn? I suppose so, but black would probably play Bb4+, and it might get dangerous for white.
