I remember the comparisons to the Beatles way back, and I agreed.  However, they had such great songs and did such a nice job, it really just didn't matter to me. I loved them almost as much as the Beatles. If they had been a bad copy, you could throw them out the window. However, some of their songs, like this one, are simply irreplaceable, unique and beautiful.

Looking back, THE MONKEES got a lot of mileage for a group that was thrown together for television... two actors + two musicians = world fame ... and more important, they made the day for millions of girls 7-14 (and a legion of older fans who would not identify themselves -- HA !). This is their signature work, likely to be heard for the next 100 years... it's got heart, message, harmony and a lot more ... this video has a LOT OF DRUMS, but WHO CARES, it's a CLASSIC !!
