  • you can keep your koran, torah, bible, Scientology-how to booklet....boys & girls, all you need to know about living your life right is in this tune. A vastly underrated modern classic.

  • Comparing one thing to another is the disease of the mind- Zen

  • @feabas1 Zen isn't a person- Me

  • Steve rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not many songs speak truth, this one does, beautiful song, fuck those other singers like toby keith with their war profiteer songs

drive by truckers-the man i shot and everlasts letters home songs are good

god bless steve earle, lord knows if he was a conforming cmt show pony he would be huge right now, but he's got dignity

  • best song i've heard yet, brilliant!!!!"!!!

  • Such a terrible sentiment. that the arabs and jews might one day find peace. such a radical thought.,

  • @mjlasala As was stated by an Israeli Prime minister, "Israel with weapons, Peace, Israel without weapons, no Israel." New Testament is all about love & God's Grace. Old Testament, Law. We cannot keep the Law, hence Christ & Grace. Difficult to have peace with countries whose avowed intent is to annihilate you.

  • God bless Steve Earle....he's been a continuing inspiration in my life, as a recovering addict myself and as a person who tries to help out when i can.....

  • I was responding to another person's comment, not talking of Steve at all. Sorry for the confusion. The comment I was responding to may have been removed, at least I don't see it.

  • Wow cmt put this on, that must have been a mistake, they dont like real music.

  • @rug3r44

    *honk honk*

  • I love Steve Earle can't believe CMT played this.

  • @mengle2004 next thing you know they might play the dixie chicks!!!!....;)

  • Love you Steve! Funny that when I go to Rainbow I hear your music - long haired redneck Texans love you.

  • It is perfectly acceptable to apreciate an artist who's opinions or politics you disagree with. I can quite happily listen to 'Okie from Muskoge' or 'Jerusalem' by Blake while disagreeing with them in some way.

  • I love America, the land of the free. . . except of course if you wish to voice an opinion that varies from the redneck agenda!

  • I totally agree with you gjc.082071 - Today's music is more of a popularity contest.

  • I don't know about his politics but this is a sweet song!

  • can we all stop with religion talk for a little bit please. I just want to listen to the song.

  • Aww.Marvellous sound =)

  • Just thought i'd throw my 2 cents in - I'm a God-fearing Muslim and I love Steve Earle's music, ever since i first heard Copperhead Road. He and SRV turned me regular R&R to more country/blues stuff. And his storytelling lyrics? That song on "Revolution" about the vet hiding in Mexico? It don't get no better'n nat!

And there is only one God. The Big Bang is a generally accepted theory that all matter started out from 1 point, and the evolutionists seem hellbent on proving the same idea with life

  • Cheers man. I think all religions are silly if not interesting. Nice to hear a regular dude tellin' folk he's a muslim. A lot of folk in North America hear that word and run for the hills. Silly really. Considering we've had our own home-grown christian bullies and thugs around for ages. Hell, ask the aboriginal folk.

  • seef0 i'am praying for you there is only one God and he is the God of the bible

  • Of course there's only one, but then why have Christians been trying to split Him into 3 for 1700 years. How's about I pray for you?

  • God has three destinct personalities he's God the father God the son and God the holy sprit Christins have never tried to split God up

  • @Uinvestigate911

You think that Rudy Giuliani, one of the most egotistical, arrogant politicians of all time, would ever agree to take orders from a "Jewish criminal network?"

  • @RaananVolesPianist Yes. He is a damn puppet.

  • @RaananVolesPianist ... Haha, he's ZIonist to the bone.

  • Comment removed

  • @paganmaestro Maby I missed something in the song but he doesnt say he is a zionist at all. nor does he promote the zionist agenda in the song. The fact of the the matter is that there are 3 major religious epicenters in jerusalem in which they are all fighting over. All you PUPPETS on the left AND the right need to wake up and learn to read and do your historical research before you start with the politisizing. The fact that ALL of you promote violence over IDEAS is sad.

  • @jeremywillis01 The Creator and i thank you for that comment there are some sane voices out there!!!!....Blessings to you!

  • @paganmaestro bazinga you don't get it!

  • Loved him from the moment I heard his first tune out, "Guitar Town". Followed all his trials and tribulations, and have seen him live along the way. I am so glad he has ended up like this, and not dead from drugs. Couldn't take many more of my idols going that way after Jerry Garcia.

  • This song makes me cry.

  • Beautiful and hopeful. Simply great.

  • What's so funny bout truth love and understanding, and a little optimism.

P S I actually heard Steve say, there's only one God- think about it'

  • Earle consistently describes himself as one step away from being a complete Marxist. You can bet he is either an atheist or something close to it. And why shouldn't he be. Religion is the cause of the most ghastly things happening on Earth today.

  • well after meeting him a couple of times and briefly speaking with him, and listening to his music for 20 yrs, i can't believe he doesn't believe in God or a higher power....you can hear hope in his music, that says something to me..

  • has it ever occurred to you that one can be an atheist and still have something to say worth listening?

  • you are right, my friend, we are all entitled to our beliefs, and yes, i am sorry, i did not listen...it's comes with age sometimes,i'm 52, an old SteveEarle fan from way back in our Texas days and sometimes i get wrapped up in my own little way and forget i am not the ony person on earth..peace..

  • Yes... but I would bet that it hasn't occured to you that Christians and other people of faith might have something worth hearing. Atheism's a form of fundamentalism.

And to those wondering about Steve's faith... he usually says he is agnostic when asked, but does show respect for the faith of others. His song "God is God" is probably a good reflection of his views.

Also, Christianity and socialism go together just fine. (Though I am pretty much a Christian anarchist.)

  • @TomUltranova

For your information, there are many people who consider themselves religious and part of the left, a tradition that goes back 100 years. Think of the Fellowship or Reconciliation.

  • when are they going to let out John walker blues

  • definitly agreat great song!

  • One of the two greatest political songs ever written. The other's Dylan's "When The Ship Comes In".

As often as I've heard either one of these, I still get chills when they're sung.

  • Great song. I would love it if someone posted I Remember You off the same recording. I can't find it anywhere, and it is the most heartbreaking.

  • bobrock87, sweetie, thanks for the precious post!!

  • Finally got to see Steve do this live in Minneapolis last week, incredible song by the best songwriter alive today....sorry Dylan...

  • Great song with fine words

    All religion corrupt

  • i sure don't think this is what steve is saying in this song, religion and faith has saved a lof of people, addicts like me and steve included...

  • the religious idea is not good or bad per se, it`s the way we people use it that determinates its effects. putting religion above human lives, laws or other people's religion is not getting us anywhere. beliefs are great if you have them, just keep them to yourself and live by them, and try to understand that a lot of people are entitled to do the same with their own. anyway, I'm an atheist by the grace of god. cheers

  • Amen Brother

  • hey that is your choice.....we all just love Steve Earle's music..

  • A song that has to be sung. Still unfortenately.

  • never, never, never can get enough of this song.....love you, Steve!!!

  • Surprised to see this was on CMT (Conservative Music Television).

  • Yeah, kindof wish ole Steve was a Scotsman. Genius that he is

  • Hey all of you CCM's (Contemporary Christian Music fans). This is one of the greatest CHRISTIAN songs ever written! Listen, and worship!!!

  • hey sweetie, i've been clean for 20 months, no hash in this house...i could mail you an advil...

  • this is a great song wih fantastic lyrics, steve, there will always be a place for you at my fireside pal. all the best from scotland. alba go bragh!

  • it's steve fricking earle, man, what more could you possible want more in life? i'm want more in life? got a husband who loves me, three beautiful children, an ipod furll of every album steve ever made and a chabnce to see him on June 20 with my only, dear beloved sister in Texas....life is good,,,what else do you else do you need> God has covered me i riches.....

  • i need hashish what about you

  • Bill who? Ohhhh you mean the olllllld patriot act, yeah that's obselete hehe

(this is a joke don't make it a debate)

  • hey, you guys who aren't as "old" as Steve and I are (in our 50s) keep coming back because he gets better and better, sure he was incredible in the Guitar Town days, but nothing like now, aged passion is better than that first fire because it's real.....

  • Another great song from Steve Earle!

  • haven't listened to this in a few days, but always, always have to start off with it, my favorite Steve Earle song and i've been a fan for 20 plus years....the best singer ever!!!!!!!! the best songwriter ever!!!!!!

  • "No matter what they tell you it is NEVER EVER unpatriotic or un-American to question ANYTHING in a democracy."

...unless, of course, your patriotism isn't strong enough for you to look within and see the log in your own eye instead of pointing out the sawdust in your brother or sister's eye.

  • my friend, to be honest, the quote is "anything in a fucking democracy." sorry, it's just vintage Steve Earle.....

  • Just so you know, Steve didn't say it the same way on NPR.

  • oh, sorry, i guess you are right....he behaved himself!!! that aside, his passion and devotion to the things he believes in would do us all good to emulate....

  • If Steve touches you, his passion and devotion touch you as well. Emulation is the eternal choice in each eternal moment.

  • as a recovering addict, with 19 months clean, Steve Earle's music has gone a long way in saving my life...of course, i know i did most of that, along with God's help, but he has led by example and grace in so many ways.

  • That is so cool! Congrats to you! And--I know this is going to sound cheesy but I will say it anyway--"thanks for sharing."

    Take care!

  • it's not cheesy at all, my friend, thank you for your kindness...

  • Emulation?

    Choice?

    You?

curious thing to say - meant with all kindness

  • Deciding to emulate another person is a choice. And it can be done in the eternal present.

  • Every time I hear someone rail about "anti-American" speech, I'm amazed that they don't realize the country is great enough to withstand any manner or degree of criticism.

Meanwhile, it's our job as Americans to rant, to question, and to hold accountable the people and policies that make the country what it is, what it's meant to be.

  • amen.

  • being able to criticize things and have differening opinions are what the founding fathers wanted and what the Constitution and Bill of Rights detail...that is what makes America different from so many other places in this world....

  • re: Steve's anti-American rants..

    Which rants are those?..

Oh I know.. the ones that express a political opinion which differs from yours..

Right.. I get it I think..

  • @RJGrones Steve doesn’t have anti-American rants. He has anti-American foreign policy rants. Y’all, expressing opinions about the vision you see for your country is what democracy is all about.

  • Despite Steve Earle's ultra-liberal and anti-American rants, this is one of the greatest songs ever written. I first heard this song on Christmas day about 5 years ago...and I will never forget it. GREAT song!

  • Steve Earle is one of the most patriotic folks alive...just because you aren't wrapped in the flag all the time and question things does not make you anti-American......

  • great song, why does this video have so few hits? why is steve so underrated? funny because I've never saw this on CMT where Iive and i've been watching CMT for years now... (even though not as much)

  • video, i think we have been asking for years why Steve is so ignored in the music industry, why so few people know who he is...for me, and the last 20 years, his music, passion and commitment has been a great comfort and support. i'm a recovering addict who has leaned on his music during rehab to get me through the worst few weeks. I've been through it three times, now, 17 months clean, i hope this is the last. But, I will always, always love Steve Earle....

  • I'm watching this over and over. It's great, I've been sharing it with others. I also like the live version where he's standing and the acoustic one where he's sitting. Although this video is super. Anyone notice that in the front view shots, his harmonica is by his neck, but in the side shots it's up in front of his mouth, they musta merged different clips. I still like the overall effect, with all the clips, and Steve's great emotion.

  • thanks for sharing this princess! beautiful song. good to see a video with it. think i uploaded a live version, but its nice to hear his studio recording.

    all the best

  • sweetie,..i have the live version on my playlist, i think, but you can't beat seeing him here in all his beautiful joy...i love this video....

  • can't get over how incredible this video is...mty favorite song of Steve's Earle...wonderful stuff......

  • Hi princess...Hope you are doing well this evening. I'm under the weather with a cold, trying to kick it! Take care :)

  • the best video ever made by the best singer songwriter alive today...

  • You are so right.....the VERY BEST.....I love this song & of course, the writer too...I'll be thinking of you today princess! be blessed dear...

  • thank you, my friend....what would the world be like without Steve Earle???? or you....

  • Great song, great video. Is this the official video? They mis-spelled Steve's name at the beginning!

  • steve i love you id like to meet you i read that whole book steve earle hardcore troubador i ihink its a distraction but thank you for existing what a beautiful song

  • i've been a fan of Steve Earle's for 20 yrs, you are right, he is very underrated in this country, c/w music pretty much sucks these days anyway, i think, but you can't even call him that...there's really no way to put a single label to his music....he has inspired me so much in my own life as a recovering addict, he has 14 yrs clean and i have nearly 16 months, i hope until he's 95 yrs old...keep rockin' Steve, we love you...

  • A true legend!!!

  • mr. earle thanks for the message of hope i believe were heading into a new age of conciousness

  • @dogchewtoyboy So do I. We need to be optimistic and show love toward mankind to move forward positively not just in America but throughout the world.

  • Steve Earle may have been bigger in 1987 with Guitar Town but I think in the last decade with songs like "John Walkers Blues" "Some Dreams" "City Of Immigrants" and this beautiful song Jerusalem, he's become a better musician and singer. His message has gotten through better. A lot of these folk singers tend to sound better with age. Have you noticed that?

  • This is a great video. Very well done. ... and an epic peace song.

  • I love this song!!! Jerusalem is a city of peace and hope. Which is what Steve sings about very very well.

  • @labunner1 This makes 'Imagine' sound like the third rate nursery rhyme that it is.

  • what a song good

  • Steve Earle...why do you kick so much ass?

    what a great song

  • i love this song ,, LOOOOOOOOVE THIS SONG !!!!!

  • best one yet steve earle

  • I covered this song yesterday (Easter Sunday) at church and the people were blown away.Got a lot of praises for it.Of course I told them it was a Steve Earle song. Thanks Steve

  • That really is a great song. Steve Earle's got a lot of soul.

  • Steve Earle is an amazing performer. He writes great songs that plead for peace in the world. I'm a dreamer and a rocker too. Steve Earle is great!!!

  • Great song - but how come CMT doesn't know his name and spells it wrong????

  • This man is a fantastic song writer as well as musician and artist.

  • very nice

  • Awesome song.....cool story

  • nice bob dylan stylezzz

  • Yep it's a great song. Will ever be one of my favorites...

  • Beautiful song. It gives me chills to hear it. This should be a must listen for everyone in America.

Forget the propaganda, open your minds and hearts because it is never too late.
