  • I love this movie and I love the book. It's right up there with Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Time Machine, and The Disaperation of James.

  • I am convinced Brian Dunn is trying to pretty hard to get some notoriety himself "Over acted and over directed" ? give me a break!

  • Over acted and over directed? WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN

  • they need to bring this back

  • Hey Brian Dunn, go fuck yourself

  • missing thumbs?

  • Does anybody else think that this movie is all a bunch of commercials and stupid ads?

  • This is one of the most amazing movies i have ever seen, the simple yet timeless story of a parents love for his child is the driving force behind this movie, and its tolled in such a dark, hopeless, bleak, and frightening world that becomes something thats never been seen before. Not to mention the acting is amazing in this movie. One of the sadist movies i have ever seen, i love this movie.

  • The guy says he had to go read "Mice and Men" after that to cheer him up... and that's a book about the great depression, racism, and a mentally challenged person killing people is it just me or does that guy sound like a sick person?

  • @DJridlin That's kind of the joke, dude.

  • @IX10510IX Oh, I didn't expect people to be joking on a review...because we're not here to be entertained, us viewers are here to be informed.

  • @DJridlin They make puns and sarcastic remarks (like the one you are referring to) quite often throughout these videos. These moments (such as the pseudo-ironic reference to "Of Mice and Men") are generally so obvious that a competent individual should be able to discern them without a second thought, so it really shouldn't prove too distracting for those who wish to be "informed" on such pressing matters as the *industry* of entertainment.

  • 73% are you kidding me overacted go fuck yourself rotten tomat... I mean rotten people

  • I ate my ear wax on purpose...

  • I read the book first and then saw the movie. I thought the book was great and they did a awesome job turning it into a movie. What anoys me though is when judge the movie without reading the book. You can't judge the actors, directors, ect., with out reading the origional material first.

  • These god damn movie critics are hollywood bred retards, if the show doesn't make you feel happy then its bad? I feel sorry for the people who are quite frankly not intelligent enough to enjoy this movie, too hung up on make believe and good guys win to dignify reality with praise. Flamboyant retards "its about parenting" no it isn't ya twit, its about what happens when shit hits the fan!

  • The Road was the"Zodiac' of 2009...CRAZY production design, great performances, subtle detail and no one cared.

  • @wushock1991 I couldn't agree more. The entire time watching this movie I thought about the lengths I would go to, to protect my son and daughter. I really liked this movie as it made perfect sense to me. It seemed very realistic. Good review. Thanks

  • ARAGORN!!!!!!

  • When I watched it during the part were they where in the bomb shelter eating all that food someone in the audience yelled "uh thats so disgusting. they will get fat so fast. they are perfectley skinny already why did they have to rune them selves by being huge fatties." everybody boed them out and threw popcorn at them. Good times Good times.

  • Hey Brian Dunn, Eat a dick cunt.

  • I liked this movie, but the don't go by the trailer, it is very misleading.

  • this was one of the best films i've ever seen and it was a box office bomb and most people have never even heard of this. i mean i understand how you can say this movie was depressing or whatever but it's really not. i dont think you guys have kids because if i was in that situation i would keep carrying the fire for my daughter. people should appreciate this movie. maybe take a look at what the future could be like.first massive earthquake in haiti and now huge massacre in Japan. The Road=*****

  • @wushock1991 sooo why don't you think it's depressing?

  • very slow, not much happens. end of review

  • oh, and i wish there was a better ending too, like them getting to mexico and it being sunny

  • this movie was so depressing and disturbing, i whatched "Dude Wheres My Car?" so i could take my mind off it :'(

  • This was insanely depressing. Like, not even the story, the whole movie was just depressing.

  • Cody deserved an oscar nod..

  • fuck this review, what's the pop rock in the background

  • Honestly, this movie made me depressed but in a good way... Not sure how that works but it does!

  • So damn depressing, but then again u know its a good movie if u can sit through this shit and r still glad u watched it and in the end, im glad i did

  • The road was the best movie I have ever seen. It is one of the only movies that will make you appreciate everything that you have. The point of the movie wasn't pointless struggle that seemed to drag on forever. It was the journey, finding hope where there is none.

  • awsome movie, i hate some of the reviews

  • @Zee96969696 i definitely agree, the four eyes is a fag

  • What the hell ONLY 73%!?? FUCK YOU! 110% BITCHES. Obviously you can't see real beauty when you see it! That movie was fucking amazing!

  • The review is waaaay to upbeat.

  • i can say that i felt this movie .........i was worried for them all the movie ...WOW .

  • This movie is truly disturbing, depressing, and paints humainity in a very pale and sickly hue. The story appears believable in some ways but constructed in other ways. The craft of movie making is used to tell this, no hope story, convincingly, which is a bad thing if you care about your own psychological well being. It's not a bad movie in the sense of how it is made. The story however is designed to make you doubt that there is actual goodness in the world.

    I wouldn't recomend it .

  • @A1Sirius What I understood from it was that regardless of how horrible and empty a situation was, you'll always find hope at the end of "the road" (so to speak). I liked its message, and it wasn't about humans surviving the apocolypse, it was about humanity surviving the apocolypse.

  • @c6h12o6glucose I agree, it's about humanity in all of us and how intrinsic it is to our nature. If the makers of this movie wanted us to think about that, they succeded. In that sense the question the movie asks. What does it mean to be the good guys?

  • @A1Sirius

or its just accurate...the world is not full of sunshine and rainbows even now, look around you, so I think they made an accurate depiction of what a post-apocolyptic world would be like given the movies circumstances...if you want a happy movie, go watch disney...

  • @21philip21 I agree that the world as it is, right now, bears the seed to what it would become if some cataclysmic event would produce the type of post apocalyptic wasteland that "The Road" depicts. Is "The Road" an accurate description of what is in the heart and minds of the people of this earth already today ? To me that is the statement that this movie makes. I don't think we are that far gone. I say this, if we are, then cataclysm is inevitable, and already happening.

  • The Road was the most overlooked film of 2009. I mean where were the Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor for the little kid and Robert Duvall, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Ediiting and Best Cinematography

  • @wrightbrooks yea viggo mortensen really should have gotten best actor

  • Undoubtably the worst movie Ive ever seen!

  • @DabIMON Was it bad as a production or was it bad because of it's bleakness and how depressing it is. It's on cable now and i'm contemplating watching it but i hate depressing movies so am considering avoiding this one. Any other opinions welcome.

  • @rayyf69 It was bad AND depressing.

At least I thought so, but maybe youll like it (probably not though)

  • @DabIMON HOW THE FUCK COULD YOU FIND THE ROAD A BAD MOVIE

  • This was the best Viggo Mortensen movie since the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

  • i think the disaster that happened to cause the apocalypse is a meteorite that hit the earth, this explains the flash of light in one of the flashbacks. the climate got colder and colder (this happened long ago, there WAS an ice age because of a meteorite strike). everything is covered in ashesh, crops that failed, almost every animal died, water was contaminated, ...

great movie anyways! loved it it showed a father-son band that i never had

  • @TBgamer4life Yeah, that or a super volcano would explain it.

  • @TBgamer4life it could of been a nuke too

  • This movie made me cry for the first time in two years.

  • The Road, A History of Violence and Eastern Promises all amazing films with great performances of Viggo Mortensen

  • Love the movie. Kids acting was a bit off but otherwise great. Book was awesome. I just like that someone finally handled an end of the world movie with...realistic thought. If you think that after some nukes fly all will be super awesome tina turner midget riding a retard...watch something else, This movie will make you sad.

  • The only problem with that movie was the damn stupid whiney pussy child. I so wanted him to just die. The rest was just so god damn awesome.

  • Seeing responses on youtube is ALMOST as bad as reading them on imdb...

  • Why dontchyall come on chuck? lol

  • What a very good, yet extremely depressing movie.

I enjoyed it. But will probably never watch it again.

  • This movie was good but i was disappointed with it. I thought it was gonna be mainly based around surviving and fighting those canibals. The trailer was so misleading. Depressing, but great acting. The ending made me tear up. One thing that really confused me is why the fuck did everyone think they were following eachother? Like towards the end where the ladies husband is killed by the flare gun, and she says "We thought you were following us *cries* "

  • @snugglybear182 in the book, the man always thinks that someone is watching/following him. so it was forshadowing the end. hope that helps

  • When critics says a movie is not worth watching,it means that just because Oprah don't like to talk about it,is no reason not to watch it,after all,not all of us like movies like Twilight ok.We have enough brain washing by the News alone.

  • this=movie=is=sad

  • probably the best post-apocalyptic movie i have ever seen. this will go down in the books..

  • @hanseykemmerer which part??? deleted scene. not as i remember. you sure.

  • @louis1152 i saw it on my xbox via zune. maby the deleted scenes were added. but i know they brought the guys clothes back and left a can of food for him.

  • @hanseykemmerer if you liked it you should read the book. the book is alot more gritty and edgy

  • @rhfyr91 yeah but this movie is so god damn amazing that you can just watch the movie instead of reading the book. however the end to the book was better left it all up to trust you know,

  • How did Charlize Theron's character die and why? She just disappeared in the darkness and that's it?

  • @landrovermarv she didnt want to live anymore.. she so she walked into the dark, cold night and froze to death.

  • @landrovermarv all the scenes with The Man and his wife were added to the movie (as in they werent in the book) but we can guess that she either killed herself or gotten eaten...either way she died and it was probably suicide...which sucks.

  • @beanR7H7C7P I have'nt seen the movie but read most of the book and there are alot of passages between him and his wife(these in the trailer included)...and in the book it's pretty clear she used one of the three bullets to kill herself.

  • This movie is great, its real, this to me is how life would play out if civilization was destroyed, and the people who don't like this movie would be the first ones to become cannibals! lmao at Bret's comment on watching the entire credits, I did the same thing I was so bummed I just sat there.

  • this movie sucked

  • it was a good movie but oh so dam depressing man

  • lol brian dunn is a faggot

  • sad- the book was so good i wish the movie was better

  • @ZACHdaSWIMMA there were sections of the book they could not show in the movie though. you gotta admit that.

  • @buggalugg0909 2012 sucked balls. worst movie ever!

  • Without a dought, this was Viggo Mortensen's GREATESTS performance ever. However, dare I say it , I was glad when his character died at the end. My reason- he made a poor, starving black man who only wanted FOOD, strip naked and left him on the side of the road to either starve, die from the elements or be killed by cannibals, YEAH!!!! great ethics AND morals to his son. So again, I'm glad that CRUEL, RASCIST SON OF A BITCH died at the end.

  • @jowoltma he took all the food and warmth away from the dieing family what was he supposed to do i could understand giving him his clothes back but thats about it

  • @jowoltma so you think he is racist?? what if it was a white guy? the point of that scene was to show how viggo, was willing to kill or die for his son. as in the guy steals their food and clothes, so he wanted revenge on the man for stealing stuff, and bringing them closer to death.

  • @louis1152 , if the guy WAS white....it would have been equally cruel, taking the food and clothes back and then killing the man would have been more merciful. Plus, the the black man DIDN'T leave viggo and his son naked on that beach, so forcing him to strip naked is just plain INHUMAN.

  • @jowoltma so you saying he was racist is just irrelevant due to you saying it was cruel no matter what, have you took time to consider your the racist?? in a time like that acting kind gets you killed?? and the whole point of the movie was to show how in the end everyone turns inhuman... hence the cannibalism stealing food and clothing from a child.

  • @louis1152 , the only reason I even brought up "racism" is because viggo's character could have easily killed and taken the clothes of Robert DuVall's character. I mean think about it, and old and helpless "WHITE" man is easy prey in a world where man can act like an animal...and yet they shared a meal and left on good terms. In a world where KILLING AND STEALING means survival, Duvall's character would have been killed on sight..........YOU STILL WANT TO CALL ME A FUCKING RASCIST ??

  • @jowoltma actually yes i do you dumbass. one he robbed the black man because the black man robbed him first, he didn't rob duvall's character one he wasn't robbing him, two name 1 part in the movie where viggo robbed a person on sight. second let me explain the point of the movie's end and plot, in the movie his son asked "are we the good guys?" he said every time yes, but after he robbed the black, he was on his death bed, he relised he was no longer the good guy after that, he became his fear.

  • @louis1152 he still was a good guy. even if he robbed that black guy, he still brought his clothes back.

  • @hanseykemmerer ??? no he didn't he never brought them back. where did you see or hear that?

  • @louis1152 youre talking about the black guy right? they couldnt find him so they left his clothing for him on the ground with a can of food.

  • i cried so hard at the end

  • lol @ 1:21

  • Just saw this film and it was pointless. There was no real reason why they were traveling to the ocean(see "Children Of Men").

I think the father didn't even care about his kid.

  • @gneerowblack

Pointless? The point of the film was to get to the coast because that was supposedly where safety awaited them. He didn't care about his kid? what movie were you watching, the whole movie he sticks by him and looks after him, his mother wanted to take their lives but he stopped her. She abandonned them and he stuck by him. Then he prepares him for when he will no longer be around, and when it does ultimately happen, the kid is ready. So yea, what movie were you watching?

  • @ETSSheep I'm speechless. All I can say is you an Glenn Beck can stay here and live for nothing, during the apocalypse, but I'm making a spaceship and taking your children with me, because you cannot(like Vigo Mortensens character) take care of them.

  • @gneerowblack Of course we are living for nothing. There is nothing left to live for other than the fact that survival is the only option, and if there was even a glint of hope which in the case of this movie was the coast, then why the fuck wouldn't you want to go and see what was there.

This movie has a meaningful story, although the only think i was disapointed with was how we weren't told how the apocalypse happened.

  • Brian Dunn at 2:29 is he kind of person nobody should listen to. Typical critic that does not know a thing about how to be creative, just how to make things look bad. These guys don't ever show what they do to others because they are afraid of criticism.

  • I loved this movie. Great acting. Its not about the action, its a story movie.

  • @TheSideShort amen brother!

  • We read the book in class, then went to the theaters to watch the film. We gave it thumbs down. Film was over done. No comparison to No Country for Old Men (another McCarthy Book) direct by the Cohen brothers. The Road is a excellent book, but a whacky movie.

  • @dorado90 sections of the book were not movie material though, they were too graphic.

  • This movie was incredible. A beautiful faithful adaptation to the book and an incredible beautiful film. Too bad I didn't have the same experience with No Country for Old Men (I know I'm gonna get crucified for saying it but it's true).

  • Just watched the movie and would highly reccommend it. I love post apocalyptic movies, and this certainly seems more realistic than most. Sure, I'd love a story that had an idealic ending where everyone is safe and sound, but it really wouldn't be in step with the book.

On the book topic, I found it even more grim, and never finished reading it because they seemed to describe everything as being destroyed, covered in ash, again, and again. Not a fan of books that focus too much on scenery.

  • @SuperSexyBoiGod

I stand corrected. It's one of those myths I was happy to accept without scrutiny (I'm even a biologist!). Thanks for correcting me!

I still doubt that the people at the end were bad guys, though.

Main reason being that they didn't kill the two even though they had weapons and had been following them for a while.

But it's certainly up for interpretation.

  • @SuperSexyBoiGod

    Dogs are, in fact, omnivores.

  • They are omnivores, i have a dog named Barkilla, she is 11 years old and love eating mangoes since ever.. i uploaded a video of hers eating one :D

  • @Rikaruro

Without artificially added nutrients, dogs can't survive without meat. That's why they're predators. Their physiology, digestive system and evolutionary history also points to them being carnivores. They CAN eat other things than meat, but they must eat meat (or somehow get the nutrients found in meat). Humans make dog food with those nutrients, for example. So, the carnivorous nature of dogs isn't all that obvious to most people.

  • @smaakjeks :( .. sad but true, i guess

  • 9/10

  • I found this movie had a beckett quality to it.

  • Horrifying movie. I saw it 20 minutes ago, and I'm really sad :( seriously, if you're an emotional person that immerse yourself with the movies you watch, there is a good chance you'll get depressed. You have been warned. Excellent film though. Didn't think a movie could have such an impact on me...

  • i cried :(

  • Best movie of 2009.

  • This is the best film of the year!! I HIGHLY recomend it!!

  • ive watched half this movie

i really dont think it was worth 73%

but i guess i havent watched it all yet

  • @TheHouseofmicky you gotta watch the ending, thats when it punches you in the face. Seriously I thought the movie was pretty good, its worth renting. Actually its worth buying, but its one of those movies that you only need to watch once.

  • creepy awesome

  • brian dunn is a douchbag

  • alexo360 - I couldn't agree more. I love how fantastically unattractive people like Brian Dunn can make a living off being jealous of talented individuals like Viggo Mortensen.

  • SPOILER !

There's this one scene in the movie really creeped me out when the father and son found a basement in the house eventually they discover there's people who got chained and hacked slashed some of them were even alive and it really breaks my heart that gangs were eating these people.

  • @Sanaa2k They look like those things from I am Legend :P

  • @Sanaa2k i had to take a break from watching it after that part.

i spent a whole week thinking about that until i had enough time to go back and finish it.

    it was hell.

  • such a goodmovie

  • How anyone could like this worthless movie is beyond me.

  • this movie was really really really great. Yeah, i might of had some kinda creepy people in it, like the starved people in the basement, but still, it was awesome 98% for me too.

  • I watched this last night. It was well made and the acting was very good.

  • Not only was this the most disturbing, depressing, and creepy movie of the year...it was ALSO the most beautiful, well-made, heartfelt film of 2009.

If i had my own TomatoeMeter...it would be at 98%.

Also, if Viggo doesnt get nominated at the Oscars (let alone WIN IT)...then its further proof that the Apocalypse REALLY IS upon us.

FOR THE SAKE OF HUMANKIND....nominate Viggo Mortenson, and honestly, not many other actors had as great acting as Viggo this year...if any.

  • 1:27

    I lol'd

  • screw you Brian Dunn!!!!

  • Movie was great! and I'm a big fan of the book.

  • I would watch it, looks good, like movies and games based on post apocalyptic

  • So we'll need to watch Schindler's List afterwards to cheer ourselves up?! I WAS planning to see this, but probably won't now. Thanks for the warning Rotten Tomatoes. I think you just saved me $10 and a few hours of severe depression.

  • The Book was amazing

  • I love Viggo Mortensen.

  • fvck progressive

  • ha they dont show up on me

  • I get to see all the movies for free but i'd pay to see it if i had to.

  • Wake up folks! This is as realistic as it gets to what we face, if and when this time comes to pass. It shouldn't depress you. It should inspire you to find alternatives to the way we have been living. do the math. How many of us are self sufficient? How many of us are going to think of our neighbor when the markets no longer provide food? Every last one of you will be out there, with your guns, hunting down your fellow man. Laugh it away! Go watch a feel good movie.

  • @nickavion I had the same thoughts

  • After I had seen The Road, I was kinda down, but what I did to cheer myself up was watch Ninja Assassin, which was next door to the The Road lol.

  • I soo wanna see this movie but Carmike and Cinemark arent showing it here in Myrtle Beach S.C.

  • looks and sounds like its worth at least a matinee

  • @eefyeah666: The comments box is made for writing opinions about the video you are watching not for spamming.

Do you feel any higher that you are first?

  • @ReelHumor Im beggining to think that bots do this.

  • yea man, that's not cool
