  • well

  • 4:37 Damn, that was a hard throw.

  • Wish the emergency alert tone was as pleasant here in the US. I suppose it wouldn't get anyone's attention.

  • So if a nuke goes off in Tokyo, the level 3 chimes obviously ring, or does NHK go blank?

  • as far as a NoKor rocket launch is concerned, the chimes would ring but in the event of a thermonuclear explosion, NHK would go off the air and will try to rebroadcast if they still can

  • we hope the us forces and our SDF would activate the missle defence system so that it wont go blank..

  • KONISHKI

  • 4:37: Nice timing!

  • 5:15 wasn't an earthquake.

it was when the emperor had died.

so they have different chime which is level2 chime and is more urgent.

the level 3 chime had been runged only once in 1941.

which ofcourse is the announcement of the WWII.

  • @ryaoden Is there an official name for the chimes/alerts? i can't find much info on the actual alerts themselves.

  • The reason why the chime doesn't convey urgency is that urgency makes panic and panic makes nothing, especially in the case of earthquake which is the most likely case the chime is used in japan.

In the case of earthquake the most important thing is information and cooldown.

By the way I know how NBC chime "NHK-like" is ,and how "the US emergency alert system " great is (sorry ! just kidding ! no malice !).

anyway, it is true that each breaking news in

    each country is interesting.

  • nice chimes, but it doesn't exactly convey urgency like a nice GGGGGGRRRRRRT! GEEEEEEEEERRRRTT! BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA from the US emergency alert system does :)

  • lol, KONI!

  • I like the NHK tone, but it doesn't convey the urgency like the NBC Special Report Music does.

  • why are they alwys interrupting?

  • Do programmes ever get shown in full in Japan or are they always interupted by one of these?! :D

  • What do those "NBC-like" chimes after break-in's mean?

    What are those reporters saying?

  • 2:42... ROFL!!!

    4:15... OMG! What a fat!!!

There's a brazilian version of this music! xD

  • i found the break ins at 3:53 and 4:20 to be quite funny. (great time to take over TV...)

  • The first news reader needs to get a better, more convincing wig.

  • 2:42-2:44 Thunderbirds! Perhaps International Rescue can save Japan from all the earthquakes?

  • Gotta love that NHK breaking news music. Calming yet telling of disaster.

  • Yeah, I wish America were like that. But no, we have to have intense music as if a disaster is our entertainment. It's one of my biggest pet peeves... the fact that the American media can't seem to tell a true story without a sweeping soundtrack to enhance how tragic something is, as if we're too stupid to know the gravity of an event.

  • True dat.

  • in japan TV program will be changed to the breaking news program in 3 min because of earthquakes.

  • I think Japan is about to fall apart... so many earthquakes in 6 minutes!!

  • Just moment's ago a earthquake jolted tokyo, tsunami warnings in effect.

  • I think this is just a montage of all of the Japanese TV networks all announcing the earthquake.

  • how amy time of breaking news are they? 20 times??
