man this brings a tear to my eye, i miss the feeling gaming used to give me, seems like everything bar the odd gem now is graphics driven. they forget the atmosphere is in the sound. i miss my amiga ..come to think of it i miss my zx spectrum and thats saying something
I still can't believe how beast Amiga 500 was so long ago ! Just imagine that PC's weren't that popular those days and the games just ruled on the system, games that we won't find these days around. Pure fun and simple ! Really miss my Amiga 500.. Miss the sound of the loading disk !!!
@sebastian2925 Even though it's not the same you should check out WinUAE or buy Amiga Forever, it includes floppy sound (as an option). It is real nostalgia loading those old games, hearing that familiar sound and have fun :) . Also if you got a keyboard with three nice diods on it like I do you can use them as those on a real Amiga to light up for power, diskdrive and harddrive. I suggest that you give it a go :) .
Pinball Fantasies..... what a great game it was..... Love the Amiga....I've still got two operational 2000's....Deluxe Paint has never been surpassed for it's animation tools.. bless you Dan Silva...
@MrBuch169169 Psygnosis is today called Sony Liverpool, Sony bought them a few years ago... It's nice that they still do make games, if only for Playstations. WipeOut, Lemmings etc. are all on PS3.
amigaaaaaaaaaaaa was a big big big part of my life... oh yes shame kids now cant experience it with the stuff they got its a real shame.. there should be a rank think where as a kid you have to start from the beginning of games machines and work your way up eh
Great video, but come come now, where is first contact??? and most importantly where is leander??? theres loads of other ones too, you need to do another video with all the brilliant amiga games you have missed out. contact me for further instruction.....
@mrtomlovin yes thats the one , it had great music on the intro, but , like i say, leander was the best i reckon, eye of the beholder music was good too
greatest home computer of all time excelent applications great games better graphics and sounds them the compareable pc's awsome great machine amiga should still be around now log may it live.
Bayliss7 spoke the truth, I hated PCs back then and thought they where crap, I had a Amiga and Mortal Kombat on was something else and this was back in 92. IBM PCs just had two tone beeps.
Indeed, it's quite impressive how this machine was released in 1985!
Let's not forget the multitasking either, even though it's not mentioned in this video - the Amiga did great multitasking from the get-go, years and years before this was introduced in Windows (and it quite sucked in older versions of Windows, too).
In fact, I think the Amiga was the second 'home computer' ever to introduce this multitasking... the very first being some Sinclair computer released a year before that was unsuccessful.
I don't know anything more about that, though - no idea how the multitasking worked on that machine, would be interesting to read more about.
@laffer35 - OS/9 was a multitasking operating system that predated the Amiga, most notably found on Radio Shack Color Computers and the computers made by Microware.
@laffer35 Sinclair's QDOS was task switching (aka cooperative tasking), whereas Amiga used full preemptive tasking where the CPU controlled which programs were executing
.
Windows did not get preemptive tasking until Windows 95 (and only for 32 bit apps), while Mac did not get it until OS X (2001). That's why they frequently crashed
Agreed. Commodore's bankrupcy set back the technological development of both home computers and video games by years! It's quite sad really. I would like to know what the developments would've been if that never happend.
Yes and everything stuffed in one box... too bad it didn't survive. And they exploited the machine's capabilities just later. The best, mindblowing demos appeared only 5-6 years later, on the same hardware. Incredible what the kids did back then! We need this kind of creativity now. Too much uniformity and control these days. So much power, bandwidth and just trash all the time. You have to rummage through tthe Internet to find any resemblance of quality or good information these days.
I still say that the AMIGA is still the future. Workbench was 100% error free where as Microsoft windows updates every few years and it gets worse every time and the Amiga could do more than an Apple iPad and that is 25 years later. In another 25 years do you think people would be talking about and Xbox360 or PS3 or an Ipad, People will be talking about Amiga until the end of time...
If Amiga was managed better we would be watching youtube on it today as our home computer......
Ha the "Shadow of the Beast" music only just reminded me then of that level on Lemmings called "A Beast of a Level". I FINALLY understand the pun 20 years later lol!
Ohh man were the graphics really that bad lol I loved my amiga! brought the CD rom for it too and a gen lock, extention hard drive expansion ram etc etc etc .... loved it :) ohh happy days ..
You could do a whole video based purely on the Pinball Dreams, Fantasies and Illusions games. I'm still yet to find a pinball game that comes close to the amount of fun I had with those.
all of the best!!!!!! very nice choices!! I got a 500 since 1987 and I play with all my amiga (500,1200 and cd32)every time, nothing is better !!! (over than 2500 games)
Great compilation man. I'm absolutely loving it. As a grown up man, I feel slightly ridiculous getting so emotional and happy when hearing this somewhat old music, but I can still remember every tune of any game I played for longer time.
This rough around the edges sid- and Amiga-sound is so nice to my ears... I get the same feeling when listening to the '92 Rave-stuff from the UK. I feel a bit nostalgic now. But happy!
33 people did not have a clue what an amiga was all about :-D
i actually had all the games you showed. now this is wat i call a trip down memory lane ;-D some amiga tunes still sounds great today. and that's amazing, considering the amiga had "only" 4 sample tracks to use.
Amiga had the best sound capabilities at the time and without any additional hardware like soundcards. Even today those tunes sound great and very spatial. The interesting thing is that when I listen to these tunes on my Amiga they sound better than on PeeZee! I would say they sound more smooth and "warm" on Amiga. Amiga rules!
Oh man this brings back so many memories!!!!! Now I'm wracking my mind trying to remember the name of one of my favorite games... loved the music in it. You could be a male or female barbarian warrior and right near the start of the game you find this big duck like beast that you ride and I think it takes you across water.... the characters were really big, took up about 2/3's of the height of the screen. Anyone know what I'm talkin' about?
Many thanks for this video, fantastic trip down memory lant, had completely forgotten about turrican and alien breed despite spending so many hours on those games, especially alien breed
Amiga music makes me feel both happy and sad. Happy for all the awesome memories those games and their music left in my mind, sad because those times are gone forever.
Been working for (probably) the biggest PC game company in the world (nothing spectacular positionwise) for about 5 years now, but can't ever forget Psygnosis, Ocean, Rainbow Arts and Bitmap Brothers.
Those guys formed the surroundings of the rest of my life subconsciously :)
My Amiga days were the best gaming days of my life. Still got the A500+ setup in the spare room, working as flawlessly as ever
@laffer35 It's because both soundtracks were by Patrick Phelan (which you probably knew). I'm currently trying to build up a collection by him and several other Amiga artists - retrotracksDOTnet/artists/244
Looking back, I wish the gaming industry didn't have to go down the fucking toilet. Companies manipulating the gaming media, producing the same shit over and over again and really fucking over the developers (like Bobby Kotick firing Infinity Ward so they won't have to pay them their bonus big cheques) Being called a nerd or technologically backwards or a faggot by some fucking dipshit on GAYmeFAQs who play nothing but FPS games and Madden and GTA (although Vice City and San Andreas was great).

janmansde3dede 11 months ago
@SNESosT
The Amiga's 8 Bit "paula" can play samples over 250 KB and can even play CD tracks.
The Snes's sound has 16 bit sound but some genius at Sony decided that 64 KB is far enough
thus therefor the Snes's soundchip can sound a bit dull at times and will struggle to do voice or any other sample.
Thus the title of the most powerful soundchip of the 16 bit era goes to the Amiga
but there is no reason to annoyed, the SNES has still the most powerful soundchip from the Console era ;)

Amiga music makes me feel both happy and sad. Happy for all the awesome memories those games and their music left in my mind, sad because those times are gone forever.

@YuberOkami Well there are plenty of Turrican 2 : Traps videos on youtube, but it isn't the song in your video.
A direct link would be awesome, thanks!

The music in all of these games is sublime, Uplifting, nostalgic but most importantly beautiful.
At the start - the music to Agony is awesome. followed up with Alien Breed (is that the intro lol ?) wow....memories of Amiga came flooding back.
Wish they'd actualy improved the music on Lotus TC 2, it wasn't really my cup of tea. Too Corny.

Lotus III and Zool had same kind of music?
Lemmy556 1 year ago 3
@Lemmy556
Yes, one of the tracks in Lotus 3 is the same as in Zool. Very bad choice on my part, seems to confuse a lot of people.
laffer35 1 year ago

No more passion these days in the gaming industry. FUCK. I wish things didn't have to go down the toilet. The creativity and originality is dead too.
