Hi New Feathers, This system can handle a severe burn over. We have 2 systems now, BAL40 system shown, which has a test pass to AS1530.8.1 and our new system for BAL FZ with a pass to AS1530.8.2 (full furnace test). If exposed to full flame contact, initial layer is sacrificial (as the system is made of multiple layers of both aluminized fabrics and silica fibre technology) so some repairs would need to be undertaken, however it takes some serious flame right on the shutter to inflict damage.
We are in a no defend zone bal -29 bal - 40 and bal - fz ... Cfa are not coming they are not allowed. We plan an earth bermed home on all sides but north which we have been planning on glazing for solar gain and heating etc we have been looking for a system to protect our glazing. Once a fire has been thru does this product need to be replaced and is the fitting system aluminum or is it likely to be able to with stand the kind of temps we can expect in a severe burnover?
Thanks wi101ZE, FYI this model was a protoype and is not disposable and production version which has been highly modified and upgraded has now been tested by a NATA Lab to AS1530.8.2, which is a full furnace test, to become the only accredited solution for the highest level in protecting windows & doors on homes from bushfire with direct flame contact, Level 6 BAL-FZ.
