0:21 is just amazing how she makes a hand stand back flip and changes her position at the same time..waw truly amazing what a human body can do if trained
I guess "the Miller" was taken out of the Code because it was too artistic and beautiful. They are ruining gymnastics more every quad. WAG: Women's Acrobatic Gymastics. Artistry is gone.
I beleive it was deemed too dangerous. Any move that has you doing a blind flip backwards onto your head with only your hands to catch the beam, can be dangerous. But it is probably the most difficult thing Miller did on beam. If it was still in today's code, it would probably be an F or G
Really is that what you think? You don't put Nastia Liukin in that category? I'd have to disagree because of her. She IS elegance on every apparatus. But Shannon's great too! I'm so glad she finally got her individual gold here!! :)
Over on gymworld the 'code experts' as it were are saying not. Well-it's a nice move anyway. She apparently did not perform it as it was described when they submitted it for consideration.
@londongymgurl It may have been a miller at one point, but no longer. The revised editions of the COP have edited it out. It is considered two separate moves; a 1/4 turning BHS, and then another separate turn while in handstand. Different than Catalina Ponor's 3/4 turning BHS.
Heart of a champion. I remember I kept wishing the commentators would just shut up so I could enjoy the performance. I hated they way they kept trying to build up the drama-their comments weren't necessary it was dramatic enough.
@audie83 As I recall, Dominique Dawes used to simply hit the "mute" on her VCR when watching TV replays--and the commentary here proves she may have been on to something!
I got to meet her

The routines were way more beautiful back then, they had more artistic moves to them it seems.

The "Miller" was removed from the COP as far as I can understand. It was ranked an E element.

this performance was awesome. i loved the way she got on the beam, the handstand tumble thingys, and "the miller" move

Beauiful truly, she definitely could compete in the Olympics now if she was born in this age!
FelineFurCece 3 years ago
wow! that was beautiful. i don't think there's any current usa gymnast who has miller's grace, elegance and artistry on the beam.

Forgot to add-unfortunately I don't think that move is called 'the Miller' in the code of points.

Apparently you are right audie83. They did not name the element for Miller. :(

I thought that it was too. I thought so for years-but sadly after looking at the COP and updated elements-it is not credited to her. :(
