I still think Cameron would be fucking insane to try and give us a more new or wild story. How much did Avatar cost? 250 million? 500 million? Do you really wanna gamble that kind of money on a story that could come off as bad as The Phantom Menace or Dune or even worse, Battlefield Earth? There was good reason for the resemblance to Dances With Wolves or Pocahontas, but there's not one line taken from either story in this film. John Dunbar was not a fucking twin, paraplegic, etc.
@LukeLovesRose Just got Blu ray director's cut of "The New World". Seen before but it's been several years. Love the movie & gorgeous in HD!! The only "movie critic" thought I had during the movie is how stunning Q'orianka Kilcher is & that she deserved an award for her portrayal of the Indian princess. Beyond that, I was entertained & surely wasn't thinking whether the story has been told before. I may have even shed a tear. That's a winner in my book and why I watch movies.
@LukeLovesRose I am not even familiar with Malick, just liked New World movie. Not even sure what other movies he's done. I like all of Cameron's movies. Avatar is beyond a doubt my favorite movie of all. It is the only movie I can watch over and over and never get tired of it.
@LukeLovesRose No problem, didn't mean to give that impression. I highly doubt any movie will replace Avatar as my favorite unless Avatar 2 or 3. I'm not going to say it can't happen. My hope is that other directors & studios are working hard to bring something to the screen as spectacular as Avatar. Surely they must feel some pressure to try and match Cameron. Either way, Cameron has raised the bar and that is all good for movie fans.
@LukeLovesRose I hear you. I can definetely see why a lot of people prefer Titanic over Avatar even though they like both because Titanic has a historical romantic everlasting kind of feel to it. I have to watch Titanic again to get a full sense of it. Not to say Avatar won't be remembered because its got some great visuals and to me is a fun adventure story and I've never seen alien beings done in that mold before. I used to joke that Avatar looks like its going to be Titanic for boys, i kid.
I think if you're gonna spend money on a movie that only interests 2 people in this world when you feature 10 foot tall, cat-like aliens, you would be totally insane.
That classic story is perfect for what Cameron wanted to do and say with Avatar. I can't help but get caught up in Jake Sully's journey and how he effects the lives of everyone around with his choices. There is pretty fucking great storytelling to be found in this movie. But, people refuse to delve deeper and that sucks
@Racheeeels No it's not. :O In fact, as you've probably seen in the movie, it just serves as a connection device. The Na'vi can use it to connect with animals (for example ikran and pa'li), and to bond with another Na'vi. When two Na'vi mate, the queue allows them to connect their nervous systems, feelings and thoughts. It is erotical, but the purpose is spiritual. They do have genitals as well, and the queue doesn't fulfill the same function at all. :)

@BxMxW97 I understand now. I never paid much attention to that particular part. It appears the very beginning is a different cut and not part of Rex Eternum. Rex Eternum kicks in around 0:32. Now you have me looking myself as I don't have the answer. Sorry about that.
just got it for christmas, baby!!! I LOVE IT!!! i haven't watched either extended cuts yet cause our dang player is missing the remote to it, so we cant circle the menu :( at least i can watch it on the comuter, hehehe.
Is 16 minutes of additional footage fully finished or is some of it un polished looking CGI and if so how much? I know a lot of the 45 minutes of deleted scenes probably is.

For anyone who adores this movie as much as i do, you fans should see The Dark Crystal which is the original closet thing to Avatar in the 80's in terms of bringing a lush exotic world to life on the big screen. Jim Henson and Frank Oz created a masterpiece of fantasy filmmaking with that, James Cameron did praised that movie when i wrote a letter to him about Avatar if he was influenced by DC and he thought TDC is a work of art like a painting come to life.

Cameron is working on Battle Angel Alita in 2013 with Avatar 2/3 coming 2014/2015 and he will produce Cleopatra 3D, Guillermo Del Toro's Mountains of Madness, and the new Heavy Metal animated movie, any fans out there happy about all this? Cameron has busy hands.
"You chose me for something. I will STAND and fight." A little reference to the real story of this masterpiece. If you need more references, check out the Earth scenes in the extended cut.
Already did and the Earth sequence in the future reminds me of Blade Runner and Akira combined since Jim is a fan of both of those masterpieces. But i find the Sully dude to be a lonely kind of guy who always gets his ass whopped at times until he now has the ability to walk thanks to his Avatar and loves to fight things as he remembers his terrible past on Earth with those guys in the bar.
Who else can't wait for parts 2 and 3? it will be like a new Star Wars trilogy if you ask me.And who thinks Neytiri is the sexiest alien on film since the Lifeforce alien vampiress or Lee the centerfold bounty hunter from Critters 2?
This movie is like a dream come true for me, watching it 12 times in theaters and 2 times in it's theatrical re-issue all in 3D with 2 in 2D for the theatrical release. Who agrees this collector's Edition DVD is up there with Blade Runner 5-Disc Blu-Ray and Dawn of the Dead 1978 4-Disc set in terms of sets with different versions of the films?
Whenever Jake is making his speech to the Na'vi, when he says, "Brothers! Sisters!" I find myself completely convinced that what I'm looking at is real.
Does anyone else get that feeling while watching some part of Avatar?
@LukeLovesRose I do in several parts of the movie. One in particular is awesome especially if you pause each and examine. When Jake kills the hexapede (his face) right before releasing the bow, Neytiri's face and reaction in response to his kill, then Neytiri's face when she say's "you are ready". The rain drops on her face, her skin, eyes, simply amazing!!
Good one, kburke. I can't believe I forgot about the "You are ready" shot of Neytiri. OMG. That has always been one of the most amazing, photo-realistic CGI shots I've ever seen. I mean, Zoe's performance is so subtle in that shot, but it's freakin' there.
@LukeLovesRose For shots that really accentuate the actor's performance coming through, my favorite is still when Neytiri realizes Jake betrayed her & the clan. Zoe and Sam's emotions come through the CGI characters 110% and look so realistic. Man that girl can scream!! LOL I'm sure it's one of the reasons they show off this particular part in a lot of the featurettes, etc.
Yeah. That scene and Zoe's performance gets me EVERY TIME. I don't know why, but it almost brings me to tears. It probably is the simple fact that Jake, our "hero" betrayed her. But, then, when Neytiri is cradling her dead father, Eytuckan (sp?) in her arms, wailing, I actually do cry.
Almost better than used in Beowulf only Avatar improves on it and let's not forget Bakshi's original old school techniques used in his Lord of the Rings only the technology wasn't like today for rotoscoping.
Sure did when i saw this theaters 12 times, it just felt so amazing that Jake became a messiah similar to Neo or Paul Artedis in the Dune novels/movies if you catch the drift.

The most sequels usually isn't even good. But I hope, with all the good actors, and maybe some new ones. That they actually can make a somewhat good sequel to AVATAR! 8'D

Is 16 minutes of additional footage fully finished or is some of it un polished looking CGI and if so how much? I know a lot of the 45 minutes of deleted scenes probably is.

For anyone who adores this movie as much as i do, you fans should see The Dark Crystal which is the original closet thing to Avatar in the 80's in terms of bringing a lush exotic world to life on the big screen. Jim Henson and Frank Oz created a masterpiece of fantasy filmmaking with that, James Cameron did praised that movie when i wrote a letter to him about Avatar if he was influenced by DC and he thought TDC is a work of art like a painting come to life.

I think Avatar 2 might surpass the original movie as much as T2, Aliens, Dawn of the Dead (1978 sequel to Night of the Living Dead), Evil Dead 2, Dark Knight, Superman 2, Spider-Man 2, X2, Blade 2, or whatever great sequel there is.

I do have a reason to hate it. It sucked in my opinion. I didn't like the entire plot of the movie and it just seemed uninteresting to me. Get over it.
And I like a variety of movies. Like Transformers or Harry Potter, and then I like funny stuff like The Hangover or Kick-Ass. And then I like stuff like Titanic. For horror movies...well, they all kind of suck...but the gore is the only good part :P

Already did and the Earth sequence in the future reminds me of Blade Runner and Akira combined since Jim is a fan of both of those masterpieces. But i find the Sully dude to be a lonely kind of guy who always gets his ass whopped at times until he now has the ability to walk thanks to his Avatar and loves to fight things as he remembers his terrible past on Earth with those guys in the bar.

This movie is like a dream come true for me, watching it 12 times in theaters and 2 times in it's theatrical re-issue all in 3D with 2 in 2D for the theatrical release. Who agrees this collector's Edition DVD is up there with Blade Runner 5-Disc Blu-Ray and Dawn of the Dead 1978 4-Disc set in terms of sets with different versions of the films?

Whenever Jake is making his speech to the Na'vi, when he says, "Brothers! Sisters!" I find myself completely convinced that what I'm looking at is real.

@LukeLovesRose I do in several parts of the movie. One in particular is awesome especially if you pause each and examine. When Jake kills the hexapede (his face) right before releasing the bow, Neytiri's face and reaction in response to his kill, then Neytiri's face when she say's "you are ready". The rain drops on her face, her skin, eyes, simply amazing!!

Good one, kburke. I can't believe I forgot about the "You are ready" shot of Neytiri. OMG. That has always been one of the most amazing, photo-realistic CGI shots I've ever seen. I mean, Zoe's performance is so subtle in that shot, but it's freakin' there.

@LukeLovesRose For shots that really accentuate the actor's performance coming through, my favorite is still when Neytiri realizes Jake betrayed her & the clan. Zoe and Sam's emotions come through the CGI characters 110% and look so realistic. Man that girl can scream!! LOL I'm sure it's one of the reasons they show off this particular part in a lot of the featurettes, etc.

Yeah. That scene and Zoe's performance gets me EVERY TIME. I don't know why, but it almost brings me to tears. It probably is the simple fact that Jake, our "hero" betrayed her. But, then, when Neytiri is cradling her dead father, Eytuckan (sp?) in her arms, wailing, I actually do cry.
