The way that The Kid would still work for our modern society is the timeless humor and comedic antics performed by the actors in the film. Facial expressions, hand gestures, comedic timing, and movement are a universal language that could be understood by anyone young or old.
The silent film era and over exaggerated movements are starting to make a comeback in modern film as directors and cinematographers attempt to use the old styles and add a modern flair.
i love how people all over the world can enjoy his brilliance. without speaking, he creates such depth and projection, emotion, comedy, the essence of what makes us feel and experience magical moments as human beings. there is no one else like Charlie Chaplin and i'm honoured to be able to watch his work today and have the pleasure to be whisked away into the world he created for us.
Chaplin was an absolute genius. And, this is one (City Lights is the ohter) of his best films. I love 2:02 where he kind of kicks the kid away from him. that was funny.
this film is a CLASSIC!! Chaplin, you are the man!!! Great actor!! by the way, did u know that Jackie Coogan is in fact Uncle Lester from The Addams Family. Amazing!!! He was just a little kid by then. (and a great actor, really) That Orphan Asylum scene... breaks me up.
the most beautiful and tender film along with "Life is Beautiful" (roberto begnini) these are the type of films that show that men actually can have feelings !
This in my fave Chaplin movie and not least for Coogans exellent acting. They're both gone now but their work lives- hopefully forever! Thanks for this!
Great film! Its hard to believe that The Kid was portrayed by Jackie Coogan, who ballooned up to be Uncle Fester on the 1960s TV show, The Addams Family. Also, that Jackie's parents spent every dime he made in films.
I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my clip of silent movie star tobacco cards. They include: Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Tom Mix, Jackie Coogan, Harold Lloyd and many more.
