Yeah if it was hail you'd sure know it. Also it will hit harder (the rain) with more speed but nice landing all the same. I had a similar experience when I took my first solo in a controlled airport with about 5k bkn then all of a sudden a shower of rain..
Luckyt. No Microburst/ downdraft from a Cumulonimbus but an interesting challenge. What makes a good pilot is if a situation like this arises then the pilot is able to think on his toes and respond with the appropriate action(s).
Bit high IMO on turn from base to final, all else looked pretty good. i suppose the perception point may have been a little "keystoned" given the Hail effect on the windscreen. but heck, at 75 kts and slowing, had plenty of room to get down. nice job. as for the weather, what's everybody fussing about. little rain, that's all. criminy. "alternate, alterante!" whiners.
he as in no danger. just a sudden bit of Precip. some people have no idea what the F they're talking about.
Weather can change fast and I've flown in areas that is that abrupt. You can be right in the middle of it, one minute clear, the next a cloud soaked with the wet stuff. Usually on the cusp of a frontal change. Sometimes its forgiving and sometimes its not. Check your MET/TAF for your flight, be aware, have a back up plan and fly safe.
"Any landing you walk away from is a great landing" Terrible philosophy for a pilot. Talk about aiming for the lowest marker. And yes, that was definitely a ballooned landing. The plane finally touched down at 1:23... you don't think 12 seconds in ground effect counts as float? The ceiling didn't look to be at a VFR minimum. In all fairness, he might have had those conditions at takeoff, but then again, clouds don't appear from nowhere on downwind. I have to assume a PIREP wasn't made, either.
I'm sorry to say but, should you be flying in this weather? Luckily you got away with it, could've been really bad, and I wouldn't be proud of it....... As commercial pilot, this video scared me a bit....
If this video scared you as a commercial pilot, who should be instrument rated (although, i know instrument rating isnt required), you should not be flying.

one thing i forgot to mention is that i didnt even realize we had been on the ground for half a minute it was that smooth that why it was so 1337 so smooth in such weather i want to make love
millsythepilot: That was a pretty much perfect landing. I dont really think you know what your talking about. Your acct name says the word pilot in it, so you want everyone to think your a pilot. I know your not because you would have stated that this was a great textbook landing. He wasnt floating, he was holding the nose up to bleed off the excess speed and let the nose come down on its own. ANy PILOT would know this. Proves that your not a pilot in real life. Maybe a FS pilot. LOL!!!! NICE!!
@jaydawg20052000 there was a float if the speed was pegged where it needed to be on approach you would have touched down at 1:16 but the plane spent about 20sec floating until the mains hit at 1:22
Any landing you walk away from is a great landing. This was also a great landing for other reasons. Floater my ass, you probably didn't know when the main landing gear touched down and just assumed wrongly. He was holding up the nose to bleed off airspeed. With LLWS you cannot afford to have a slow approach as the chance of stall and crash is imminent.
i agree, but these days people dont judge a pilot on their in flight maneuvers...but they do judge on how you land the airplane, i've never been told, hey, nice job cruising, but terrible landing!

I love the title of this video. Now try landing on a fucking carrier in the middle of the ocean at night on rough seas. Your opinion will change. Thanks
Yeah... it should be VGR, not VFR. The "g" stands for...you know. This Piloot dreams of flying IFR into a Tornado trying to find Dorothy sucking on the Tin Mans tool!
I think it was a good landing, and I think most people are riled up by your TITLE. Ultimate? Well, perhaps SAFE and the plane is flyable, but I think the claim is what set off most of these pilots or wannabes. Keep up the flying, think about the naming of videos. "Nice rainy day landing" might be more apropos.
With so little time to play on Youtube, I tend to watch videos that I like, hopefully ones that are true to the title. You apparently are reading a book called "I am so superior to everyone else I can criticize" It is a good landing. No more, no less. You are the one with recto-cranial inversion.
yeah i was just a guest I did not land it but I thought it was good, I never guessed my friend could do that! So I was impressed (and nervous as I have never been in a cessna before) when he landed and stuff they were giving out icing alerts or w/e on the radio. Definately exaggerating with the title but thats jus my style haha. Never thought it would get so many views!
I think it's a good landing, I might have just waited the shower out if it was moving off the field, you can get kicked around even if your looking at the runway under high base cu's, but they didn't seem to be getting tossed around. I'd wait if I had pax on board especiallly in a light plane, they don't like adventure or their heads hiting the ceiling. I might also hold if it was my plane and my planes paint. I've had to slow down in sleet to keep from taking the paint off a rental.
