  • What's the difference? Shojo is just shonen for girls.

  • idk why they assigned lucky star to shonen in classification

i think lucky star is shoujo.

  • Figured those of you who like to debate between Shojo vs Shonen would appreciate the video I just posted up on my channel.

  • Cardcaptor Sakura isn't shonen

  • Tsubasa Chronicle, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Dragon Ball are all Shonen. If every other Manga ever made was a Shojo one then Shonen would still win.

  • It be awesome if there was a shonen manga drawn in a shoujo art style that would be epic.

  • @futureanimatior I haven't read the manga yet, but Baka to Test always struck me as a shoujo, but turns out it's considered a shonen. At least according to the anime.

  • what anime is at 0:44

  • there both good

  • 3:58 what episode is that from

  • 00:32 BUAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA L´s,NEAR,MELLO...AND (¿?) XD JAJAJAJAJAJAJ GOOOOODO JOB!!

  • lol (at the "death note in a nutshell" one - because it is so true!)

  • It depends on what magazine it ran in.

Lucky Star is a Shonen the ran in Comptiq, Shonen ace and Comp Ace. It does not have romance, it has moe characters.

I can pretty much tell if any anime/manga is a shojo/shonen by looking at some of it, but to make 100% sure I check Wikipedia. :P

Anyway I loke both Shojo and Shonen (but not the overrated same-old action+fillers shonen)

But I do watch more shojo type stuff more...

  • Lucky Star has its own genre... it's called AWESOME.

  • ShoJO. Because almost everything shoNEN throws out is recycled bullshit

  • ...umm lucky star is a seinen.

  • Shoujo all the way ... And I'm a guy

  • @Theclowcard

There's no shame in being a guy and liking shoujo. I'm a guy, and I consider Sailor Moon my second favorite series behind Dragonball.

  • i like that part by 3:59

  • i said anime forever! fuck that shit lol

  • I Luv shojo and shonen :DDDDD

  • Really just depends on your taste. I love Shounen but I also love to watch Shoujo for a good laugh of time. So I say Shoujo is my favorite it's just it's something new every time.

  • Wha's up with you and Naruto/Naruto Shippuden songs?? not saying its bad... love em. I like boh really.. funny as hell x

  • Where is king of the shounen DRAGON BALL!!!

  • I like both of them equally

  • what anime is 0:43 from?

  • @BrightheartxWarrior card captor sakura

  • Easy question: SHOUNEN ALL THE WAY!! <3

  • you are confusing shojo with maho shojo and shonen with gore

  • I like them both. It's boring to only watch one of them... ^::^

  • well shojo has more romance and shonen has more violent action... SHONEN

  • @spottedmask471

There's just as much romance in Shounen. DBZ has four canon couples, and weddings at the end of DB and DBZ. Inuyasha ended with a wedding, as did Rave Master. And if the fans have any real pull over the series, I'm sure Naruto will as well.

  • I said WTF xD and laughed like 10 times on the video

  • I like Shonen, but I prefer Sojo over it they just got all amazing manga's their art is better their stories are developed better. I'm a boy too and I just prefer them over Shonen Jump.

  • I prefer lighthearted shoujo :3

  • whats the difference anyway ? anime is anime crappy or good

  • hold it...... are you saying that haruhi, lucky star, adn death note are shojo?

I am sorry but if so then you are filled with shit, they are all directed to more male and actually lucky star and haruhi really has no genre

  • three words about shonen, too many episodes!

at least for the most popular ones...

i prefer animes that are either funny or with a complex story xP

  • Personally, I like both. I don't really feel like only watching one. And what about Seinen and Josei? I watch those too. It doesn't really matter what genre it is, as long as I like it, I'll watch it. Hell, my two favorite animes are Bleach and Fruits Baskets. Both different genres. It doesn't matter.

  • code0943@ I'm learning japanese :D I speak Spanish

  • But I like so many of both!

  • ok, everyone!, try this:

    1. look for animes/mangas that say Shojo in the genre.

    2. observe the art style of the anime/manga.

    3. and compare it to other Shojo animes/mangas.

You can see that some Shojo animes/mangas have the same art style.

    Some animes I compared:

    Vampire Knight

    Kaichou wa Maid-sama

    Ouran High School Host Club

I dont know about Shonen, I sometimes watch Shonen animes, I sometimes watch Shojo animes. I like normal animes (that has romance) like Rurouni Kenshin.

  • SHOJO! HARUHI, LUCKY STAR, OURAN!!! EEK!

  • a true otaku should know more than fourty different animes woot otaku's ftw

  • @SilverGalford Shonen=boys manga, contains more action than romance

Shojo=girls manga, contains more romance than action

  • I'm a girl and I HATE Shojo animes, I love Shonen animes better! well, I do love some Shojo animes. Shojo animes are full of Romance, I hate Romance

  • @CuteXiao93 me too, with a few expection of fruit basket and Cardcaptor Sakuara and no, not the crappy english one. the org japanese because i speak jap!

  • I actually like them to have a bit of both like Inuyasha or the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya :)

  • Hehe, Lucky Star and Ouran HSHC! Epic!

Neat-o! You used the original Caramelldansen!

Also, who the heck cares? Manga/Anime FTW!

  • Im a male, and I like lucky star and death note. so i never really thought there was sopposed to be a anime for males and females. please dont get mad at me if you are offended in a strange way, and correct me if im wrong.

  • it rly depends on the series. some times shounen's better, some times shojo is, it just depends on how good the show is

  • Can't decide...but I think that it doesn't really matter coz girls watch shonen and boys watch shojo either way. Shonen animes have bits of shojo in and shojo sometimes has shonen qualities in it. But I guess I'd have to say Shojo...

  • I like both Shonen and Shojo. but you should have used better Shojo than school girl animes. You could've used Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, or the Pretty Cure Series.

  • Okay, in my personal opinion, I couldn't care less if it was shojo or shonen. It seems to stereotypical. I only care if it keeps me busy and I enjoy it. Thats all. And all those on there were AWESOME! X3

  • I like watching Shounen and reading Shoujo... though there is some problems with shoujo like the fact that almost every shoujo manga the girl who sees the first guy, falls in love with that guy in the end, which I slightly hate.

  • I 'm more of a Seinen and Josei fan. LOL

  • oh god theres CCS! =D

oh, and all those other overrated animes too

  • yeah i love THIS song!!!

  • Comment removed

  • whooo cardcaptors!!

  • Both are really goid

  • Comment removed

  • Eh, I'm a girl and all, and although I like both I have to say Shonen kills Shojo most of the time. I mean, I started out with Shojo and I like Sailor Moon, Ouran, and Fruits Basket...Naruto, Bleach, FMA, Death Note, (and more I can't remember) are just better, in my opinion. The thing is, I'd like SOME romance in shonen every once in a while, but not too much. The Fruits Basket ending was horrible because of all the sappy forced romance

  • it depends what mood im in. right now, i prefer shojo.

  • Shojo for ever ^^

  • they're both really good!

I like shonen for the action and I like shojo for the comedy =3

  • I like Shouen anime/manga cause they have more action. Some Shoujo anime/mangas are pretty good but some has too much romance in it and it ruins the anime/manga

  • @lilinu15

i usually want romance in anime lol and which is why shoujo is directed at girls. and usually i like a girl as a main heroine which makes me like shojo more.

  • SHONEN (naruto death note) d<

  • SHONEN FOR THE WIN!

  • shojo is to girlly... yes i am a girl but it to girly

  • I personally like shonen anime. I like some shojo anime, but I just hate stories that are like "kya! I'm _____ and i'm ____ years old and I'm in love!" and start talking abut their everyday life. I have to watch something with more meaning to it. -.- Or at least something with more action. And probably a little more serious. But then again, I also dislike a few shonen anime that keep on going on and on and on and just show boring episodes to make the series seem longer.

  • i dont have a favorite type because shonen i like the action and stuff but shojo makes me laugh so its both for me

  • not really a battle

    just clips from animes

  • Shojo all the way

  • What's the anime of the girl without fingers?

  • its elfen lied.<3

  • I love both shoji and shonen! Anime ftw

  • Well... since shounen sells way more copies and makes A LOT more money i'd have to say it's the better genre =P

  • Card Captor Sakura is the only shoujo anime in this video. :|

  • No. They also show Azumanga Daoih, Lucky Star, Ouran High School Host Club, and The Meloncholey of Haruhi Suzumiya. Those are also shojo animes.

  • Wow, you sure know nothing about anime genres.

Yes, I did forget to mention Ouran High School Host Club, which is indeed a Shoujo.

But the rest you mention, no.

Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is Slice of Life and Comedy.

    Not Shoujo.

  • theres no way lucky star is shonen...

  • I haven't said it is.

But there are a lot more genres in anime other than shoujo and shonen.

It is very much possible for an anime series to be neither shonen or shoujo.

  • But shoujo is any anime for, or about, scool age girls, right? All of those animes are aimed at teenage chicks, right? I would think that they are all Slice of Life, Comedy, AND shoujo. Afterall an anime can have more than one genre. Correct me if i'm wrong.

  • No, no, no...

An anime about school girls does NOT equal shoujo.

In fact, both Lucky Star and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu are directed towards male audiences. (Azumanga Daioh is pretty much directed at both.)

Does this mean they are shonen anime? No.

Like I just said to bleach7833, an anime series doesn't have to be either shonen or shoujo, it can be neither.

  • Oh... okay then, thanks! I guess i've got a lot to learn!

  • I disagree. Shounen and Shoujo are, at least in my opinion, not a genre. They are simply the targeted demographic.

Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh are both shounen manga. Every manga must have a targeted demographic, because otherwise, what would be the point of publishing a work with no intent on selling it?

P.D: Lolwut, Elfen Lied in the video? That's seinen.

  • @Louchan2 haruhi is not strictly shonen, but is direct towards boys right?

so could you help me convince my ignorant cousin that lucky star is not shojo?

  • @CodenameBourbon Tell him that both COMPTIQ and SHONEN ACE are *shonen* publications (they are the two that Lucky Star ran in), that Kadokawa Shoten normally makes shonen productions, and that author Kagami Yoshimizu is a male who was writing this, aimed at a male audience... I didn't know anyone thought Lucky Star wasn't Shonen, actually...

  • @thegambitking oh thanks! we both now know 2 people who thought lucky star was shojo! this is probably caused by the old shojo like sailor moon. you compare now days for some reason animes about schools girls are considered shojo just because of the female characters!

but nowdays shojo doesnt even have that many female characters generally(vampire knight, fruits basket, ouran high school host club, etc).

it's like shonen, guys like girls, girl like guys. get me guys?

  • @CodenameBourbon Yeah, that's sort of true, but there are still many shonen titles (most of them!) that have mostly male characters--I'd say that the gender of the characters does NOT have a direct effect on the gender of the target audience--however, for whatever reason, it seems that Seinen titles are more likely to have more female characters than Shonen titles, but there are many exceptions, including Lucky Star--so it really differs from series to series!

  • @Louchan2 @CodenameBourbon

Proof that Lucky Star is SHONEN, ha ha!

    watch?v=Xbud1VKoekM

  • @thegambitking I will watch it but is this a trap?

  • @CodenameBourbon What do you mean? I don't post links to 'trap sites' on YouTube comments (or anywhere else, for that matter!) ... it's no coincidence that one of the top-rated comments is "Lucky Star: an anime for tough guys!"

  • @thegambitking yeah I saw it and it was good!

  • @Louchan2 Lucky Star is Shonen because it ran in SHONEN ACE ... I think you're mistaken with what you said!

  • @thegambitking

Regardless of what magazine it ran in, it's still not Shonen. It's comedy and slice of life.

  • @Louchan2 Comedy and Slice of Life are both ATTRIBUTES of an anime, but its GENRE is either Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, or Josei ... you can have Shonen Comedy, Shonen Slice of Life, etc. ... or you can have Shojo Comedy, Shojo Slice of Life, etc. ... ALL of the series that run in COMPTIQ, SHONEN ACE, etc., are Shonen series--but it doesn't mean that ALL of them are action, sports, comedy, or slice of life... there are many varieties and combinations! Does that make sense?

  • Ouran is shojo ._.

  • actually, i think shojo is funnier than shounen (azumanga daioh, lucky star, host club, etc. ) but shounen's fights are cooler than shojo's (obviously).

i don't really have a preference, i just like good anime.

  • elfen lied is the shit

     the gOOD shit

  • i like both...

  • shojo is fucked up

yay 4 cardcaptor n the god of toiloet paper

  • lmao

    i agree shojo is crap

    shonen is much betta

  • i cant take al da chibi characters seriously at lest in shonen ther isnt as much

  • yeh but most of that girl high school stuff is actually shonen but more girls watch it... like if you look up lucky star on wiki (lucky star the creepy flatchested dancing girlz) it says its shonen (yeh i am a geek lol)

  • yay 1st comment
