I don't have a problem with your interpretation of the book of Job (its YOUR opinion after all), however you don't tell the whole story. Neither the author of the book nor the date that it was written are known for certain, yet you don't give any reference to this. Also your quotation of Deuteronomy 28:63 was taken out of context, as that particular verse doesn't even refer to Job's situation, but disobedience to God. You've over simplified this book with no regard to the original context.
@ProfMTH Although I don't wish for a debate and I respect that the themes in Job are too complex to summarise easily in these videos. However you didn't make a reference to the books context, in regard to the culture and the theology of which Job was representing. The central story was written as poetry set between a prologue and, epilogue, highlighting concerns that the author had with divine punishment/suffering. It can't really be seen as a factual argument for (or against) the nature of God.
@Sobekha Perhaps you mised the point of this series. It was to respond to a very common and thoroughly erroneous Christian take on the Book of Job. I didn't set out to do a full literary study of the work, though I referenced a number of works that do this.
@ProfMTH You've done a good job of specifying the nature of this series. The issue is not the content of the series, however the approach you take to bring your point across. Those other videos (that you replied to) were made by fundamentalists, ignorants and egotistical people. So their foolishness shows in their assumptions. You're clearly well educated and I think you could have clarified why you think Job is a reliable source for the argument against God.
Fuck the "god" of the Old Testament ! it is NOT the Perfect God that Jesus describes ! If it is then "God" has a Multiple Personality Dissorder and that is NOT the Perfect God that I believe in , No way in hell !! In Effect Fuck the bible for all it's inperfections and lies ! IT is NOT A HOLY BOOK !
i like that part where god "makes up" for it by giving him more children and a new wife. reminds me of the parent that kills the dog and makes up for it by buying a new dog. accept in that instance the parent usually didnt kill the dog on purpose.
killing someone's wife and kids for, in his own words, no reason is cruel, and then giving him a new wife and kids rather than bringing back the original wife and kids is callous. god in the book of job proves he is a dick.
I've been reading the bible and taking a highlighter to the evil parts. Right now I'm in second Kings and after watching this I have a feeling my highlighter is going to go dry.....again.
Christians are so dishonest they would even contradict God to defend God. I would accept Christianity a little bit more if they admitted God was fallible, even if he was powerful, but they just cannot do that. What a shame.
Actually, they can't admit God is less than "All-everything" in his nature, b/c if they did then the logical conclusion is that god isn't worthy of worship other than for the fact that he is the king shit.
Worst still for them is the fact that such as admission would destroy the foundational doctrine of Christianity, namely, that god is perfect & we are not, thus requiring Jesus to "bridge the perfection gap" by way of his sacrifice.
@LetReasonPrevail1 I see. Christianity is nothing more than a series of buzz statements that sound good but hold no water. It is like the Republican Party, unchanging in a rapidly-changing world. No wonder the two go hand in hand!
You said, "Christianity is nothing more than a series of buzz statements that sound good but hold no water"
This is an excellent way to put it.
Most people don't care to understand the actual doctrines that foundationally underpin Christianity (or any other religion for that matter). If one cares to inquire, they usually find out that these key doctrines tend to be completely contrary to our actual value system.
In other words, it's all based on meritless bullshit
@LetReasonPrevail1 OR look at if from a more Cosmic point of View ! Perhapps this was some fucken ET with Advanced Technology trying to pass himself off as God . To fool a primitive man that would have been a piece of cake ! Read the Chariots of the Gods or Technology of the Gods ! I Know this opens up a whole new can of worms but the truth is NOT always as simple as a faery tale. In fact what if all Religions on Earth where Falsely founded by ET's ?!! THAT is the Root of all Possibilities.
@nicktesla45 Thanks for the reply & please consider the following:
What exactly is a "Cosmic point of view" & how doesn it differ from my current point of view? This seems like a poetic term that unless clearly defined adds nothing to my current search for better understandings
Regarding the hypothesis that ET's visited us in our distant past, I am open to such a theory, but it has to have good evidence for me to give it any weight? So where's the evidence? I just don't see it
@LetReasonPrevail1 Read some of the books from Adventures Unlimited Publishing to star getting and Idea of the Mountain of Evidence that suggests we have been visited by ET's in the Distant Past . Don be like most Stupid Fundamentlaists that read nothing but the goddam Bible . For That Matter the Goddam Bible itself Proves there are other gods , Read Genesis 18 verses 1,2, and 3 MORON !! Don't even dare compare your IQ to mine you imbesile !! You are homosapien , I am HomoSuperior !
That's some funny shit, dude! :o) I give you props for that.
But as for the rest of your worthless response, just like most conspiracy theory advocates, you didn't address my question for any real evidence (I gave you a list of things that would qualify).
And for some bizarre reason you concluded I was a "Fundie" who had read nothing but the bible. Did you happen to check out my channel name "Let Reason Prevail"?
To my mind, the "ET's came in the distant past" theory is nothing more than an argument from incredulity (i.e. you can't imagine how something happened, therefore your unsupported idea is true!)
Sorry, but this is lazy thinking & bad logic
Either a theory has good evidence to support it, or it doesn't
Besides, there are more plausible explanations for the existence of god belief & the genesis & growth of religions (check out Meme Theory)
@LetReasonPrevail1 My Unsupported Idea ?!! I beg to differ Sir, There is a whole Mountain of Archelogical Evidence to suggest the idea that we have been visited by Aliens in the distant past, Read some of the books published by Adventures Unlimited Press available on the web. it would be a Piece of Cake for some aliens to convince Bronze Age people that they were "Gods" with their advanced High-Tec gear. In Fact if I had access to a Time Machine even I could do the same with Todays technology.
There is also a "mountain" of evidence that man didn't land on the moon. It just so happens it's a mountain of fraudulant bullshit. And just like the "no moon landing" so-called evidence, the ET evidence is a joke. The fact that it "would be a piece of cake for some aliens to convince Bronze Age people that they were in fact gods with their high-tec gear" in no way logically leads to the conclusion that they did in fact come & do so. This is the worst kind of argument.
Do you know what kind of "ET came here" evidence would actually be convincing?
How about an actual spacecraft, or an artifact made from a metal-like substance that was unavailable to ancient mankind, or how about an actual alien corpse, or how about an alien communication of some kind?
What's that? Oh, I see. That kind of actual evidence doesn't exist.
@LetReasonPrevail1 Read the Mahabarata , Don't expect everybody to do your research for you ! Educate yourself MORON ! Or perhapps you rather believe that God is an Asshole who would sell his own son Job out to he devil !! You stupid christians never read anything other than the stupid bible , That is why you are all Retarded !
@lease2coach the fact is human do not know for sure if life ends at death or continues after God's judgement. From what we know of Job and his family, they all went to Heaven. your reasoning is like some who gets a shot at the doctor for the first time and is miserable for 3 seconds, then hes fine. Humans dont know for sure what will hapen after death, its called freewill. God can do whatever He wants, he created us, and in His love he saved us through Jesus Christ not just let evil fall in Job
@lease2coach If God brings evil on him uses Job to teach him a lesson and inturn teach us all through this story then so be it. God does not delight in torturing the righteos, at the end God rewarded Job and im not aware of any other cases where God persecutes a righteous man, although God makes it clear that all fall short of the glory of God, Job was righteous, but then again he cursed God. And Satan did not operate without permission its clear from the text Satan was given permission from God
your analogy of "God shot the gun" doesnt really work because a bullet does not have freewill and can not decide to NOT kill a man. God allowed Satan to harm Job but God did not harm Job, Job fears and curses God for Satan's work and the torments of the physical and God corrects him because Job should fear God, afterall God has the power to destroy Satan and Job. also, God created Satan but did not create evil. To use your analogy correctly, God made the bullet but he didnt make the gun, we did
There is a Book called “Quest in Search of Eden,” coming out soon that explain in detail the book of Job, and why God asked Satan to test him. Before you say another word I advise you to read the book. Your version as well as the Christian community teaching of the Book of Job is incorrect. brite.
God tested Job. Job stayed faithful, and God Blessed him at the end. To a Jew, Christian, or Muslim (their text s a bit different.) Job shows us how we should live. Always give thanks to the Lord. with out God to test us how does he know we aren't just using him to get a blessing.
God loves all, but we all must love God. God will test us to see how faithful we are, and trough these test we will come closer to God. God needs to know we love him, because our God is a jealous God, but he is also a great God who sticks through thick and thin. God will always be there for you once he knows you are faithful to him. Amen.
Now I would like to note: The Bible is note only a Holy Scripture but it is also a tool. It can be used as something God. A tool can be used for good or evil. Like a book on how to live life, or the words of it can be twisted and used to draw people away, or trick them into doing malicious things.
Now in actuality I dislike arguing over the existence of God. In my heart I know God is real. In my heart I know God to be a jealous, but also loving, caring and faithful God. "There is no God, but God" (in words of many Muslims)
One last comment: God's greatest act of humbling mankind was sending His Son the Messiah. Is 53 says He was pleased to "crush Him" why? So that the "offering of His soul" would bring life to those whose sins He bore on the cross.
In our Western culture we have lost the idea and knowledge of a Holy and Pure Creator who's love He poured into us His image but it is now corrupt. In Christ He God the Father is making a new human race! Join Him or Curse Him?
Here is the Triangle: God is Holy-No Sin or Darkness+Omnipotent+Omniscient
next God is Just and will not pervert Justice
next Evil exists seeminly unabated
Man is coralled in this Triangle of impossibilites. How can God allow this and be God? That is the Myster of Initquity. Faith maintains that All of God's attributes remain unchanged and there is NO darkeness in Him. The missing key to this puzzle is NOT satan but the Soveriegnty of God...trust or don't. your choice to decide! I have!
The book of Job is a metaphor of the Nation of Israel [I am not Jewish] who have brought TRUTH into the world and have greatly suffered for it for milleniums!
God will take responsibility for what has happened because is LORD and there can only be one. Faith says God is HOLY, OMNIPOTENT, JUST and His Character changes not...Israel and God will be vindicated when Christ returns from Heaven. Faith looks beyond the earthly dark conclusions that have no light
Hello everyone, ProfMTH or Professor Myth is really Mitch...
Mitch is a great story teller and thoroughly deals with difficult passages of Scripture that most Christian shy away from. Applause!!! Fine but Mitch like most young intellectual who have lost "their faith in a Holy, Loving, and Just God" have never understood the Triangulation or pyramid shap noose that Lucifer uses to strangle them. They become so smart they even take upon them selves the very character of Satan in their conc.
I believe in God, whether or not it is the christian God, I don't know, I do not call myself christian, as I am completely and utterly aware of the discrepancies in the book of Job, and the very confusing and contradicting nature of the bible itself. I for one believe that whatever this spiritual being is, it is not on our side at all, but it's own, it is not all good. Christians say all good out of fear and horror of this being, and it shouldn't be this way, if something is wrong speak up.
This is the god who decides to one day sacrifice himself to HIMSELF as a way to forgive people of their sins (when he never needed a sacrifice). The god of the Bible displays the character of that of a sadistic psychopath. Who enjoys death and destruction and has a weird obsession with blood.
I don't know of any other bible story which allows us such insight into the extent of Yahweh's evil nature & his mind, which I see as Psychopathic.
Lets look at this part of the story, where god allows (or instructs) Satan to kill Jobs children. Here's this loyal man who loves god so much, but god doesn't value this, as he has no problem in killing his children, & when he replaces them, it's not with the original 1s! Maybe god couldn't! Or maybe god was having a last laugh at Job's expense?
I've always found the story of Job the most enigmatic and contradictory story in the Bible. First of all, what was Satan doing there with God in the first place? Wasn't he banished from heaven long before? Secondly, there was most certainly a reason for what God did however it did not pertain to Job but rather to God himself. He had made a wager with Satan and felt the need to prove a point. Not only is this unbecoming for a supposedly omnipotent being, it betrays a deep seated insecurity.
Great video thanks. It is interesting to see how Bible stories are a reflection of the chaotic world we experience-a world which often seems unfair- with people who have harmed no one getting ill or dying young. As Robert M Price says in the excellent book 'The reason driven life' we live in a morally neutral universe. The author of Job writes words into the imaginary characters. His hypothesis about why things happen has failed, see Victor J Stenger, Dan Barker, John W. Loftus, Jason Long
I wish Jack Miles's analysis of Job ("a profoundly blasphemous book"), and especially 42:6, were better known. When I first discovered it, I just about shouted for joy. I had always wanted to admire Job but was so disappointed that he wimped out at the end--or so it seemed. Miles rehabilitated him for me.
religion boggles the mind, not in the good way like science does. I find it difficult to perceive how people find it non-counter-intuitive... but billions disagree.
Lmao! This was awesome! I love how you are able to directly quote verses from the Bible to show that the prevalent Christian interpretations of Job are dead-ass wrong.
@Evid3nc3 "Lmao! This was awesome! I love how you are able to directly quote verses from the Bible to show that the prevalent Christian interpretations of Job are dead-ass wrong."
Thanks a lot! This was one of my favorite videos to do. Job was one of those biblical books that made absolutely no sense to me until I was no longer a believer. Then it came into clear relief.
nobody taught god how to be god, or any thing else for that matter, he had to learn every thing on his own. maybe god just has an unorthodox way of doing things.
could it also be some strange reasoning about why bad things might happen to good people? hey bad things happen to good people: look at job!
anyway, i'm not sure if it would keep me going to church (i stopped long ago because it was boring and didn't make sense). but if i still did go to church job's story would make sense of why all the cruel shit happens every day.
it's not about love; it's about power. well said, i never saw it that way. disclosure: i didn't read all of job but...
could this be about god proving that he is an angry, powerful god who will spare no one? not even someone like job? could the purpose of job be about keeping all the believers terrified and on their toes? also to make sure they worship and sacrifice even more or face the unpredictable and unstable and almighty wrath at any moment?
Isn't Satan referred to as Hassatan or something along those lines in the original Hebrew, meaning not only was it not Satan but the accuser/opposer an angel of the lord who challenged god on his terms; placing all the blame on god in the first place since nothing would have happened had he said no. The lack of self-control god shows in the bible is astounding.
@Baeloth Yes, Job does not portray the Satan of Christianity--at least not entirely. But I was pushing along Christian lines because it was Christian interpretation that I was responding to. Thanks for the comment.
@MrSlippin22 I didn't make up anything, you failed to produce evidence to support your gods existence so in all honestly, you made up your mind to give up because you can't prove butternut squash.
you seen wat happend to me in my vidoe when jesus saved me, Jesus is all over the wolrd on a cross, everyone knows who he is, wat more proof do you need? you calling Jesus off the cross to give you a personal revaltion while mocking his word?
yes Jesus not only came to me face to face he went thru my whole enitre being. he is the only reason i am still alive , do what you want bro i tried to help the bible as truth anf this is what it says
Mark 6:11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."
Matthew 10:15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that person (s) who mocks my word.
@MrSlippin22 "you need fear of the lord to do what is rightious, as i can see you think your in charge ,you are a sinner and need a savior you are in danger and dont know it"
Love brought by fear isn't love. It's tyranny. An all loving, omniscient, and powerful god wouldn't need silly scare tactics.
"i was dead 2 times and didnt know it either, i thought i knew it all too ,watch my vidoes on my channel if not then dont . God Bless"
@MrSlippin22 Cont, I don't think I know it all, and I can admit that. You think you know there is a god but can only back it up with scaring people. Plus, the moment I ditched Catholicism was the happiest realization of my life.
I have never been happier and more alive.
We aren't the same so don't compare my atheist experiences with yours.
not fear in the sense your thinking for Jesus .its Love of what jesus did for us. when you jump to your own misinterpretation of the truth of the written word of god you will never be given the truth . Love the son he sent for what he has done but fear our father who sent him, Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. u are accountalbe for every word you say, just so u know
you need fear of the lord to, as i can see you think your in charge ,you are a sinner and need a savior you are in danger ansd dont know it •Matthew 13:50 “furnace of fire…weeping and gnashing of teeth”
•Mark 9:48 “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”
•Revelation 14:10 “he will be tormented with fire and brimstone”
i was dead 2 times and didnt know it either, i thought i knew it all too ,watch my vidoes on my channel if not then dont . God Bless
Hey Man I really enjoyed that video, you should do more, I really appreaciate your insight, they line up perfectly, Its is awesome to have such a great insights into God's behavior and the lesson that Job had to learn which what we all have to learn
u challenging our all knowng creator? we are all responsible for every word that comes out of our mouth to the lord he tells us Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. this applies to us now. ill take forgivness how about u?
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
if you think satan did this then thats fine but he's already in hell so this doesnt apply to him. whoever tempts the lord will be put in hell who is not already there, i got my warning i was going to hell, sept of 2008 and i was told to change my ways, and that what im doing, do what you want but he tells us Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
this is not a beleif based on opinion as yours is, its truth that you will come to when your life is done here, i didnt know how real satan was and the power of his deception. until i came face to face with it and was saved by the son our creator sent, watch the video on my channel titled I am the way, the truth and the life! if wat happed to me and all of what god has done thru the centuries still dont convince you that he is in deed the one u will anser to then i cant say any more. God bless!
@MrSlippin22 With all due respect, to say that your belief is "based on opinion" is to say too much. Your belief is based on mythology penned by different people a very long time ago.
I spent the vast majority of my life as a Christian. I left it (and religious belief generally) after a long, thoughtful, and difficult process that I discuss in a number of my videos. There will be no one to answer to when life is over. But if you choose to believe there will be, you're certainly free to do so.
ok brother, I hope you get somthng out of it. however i have been thru this with many intellectual people who just cannot get past there own ideas about our existence, and i dont know why its like that , but just beleive what happened is true. remember i didn nothing to deserve being saved other than this << Matthew 7:7
"Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
@MrSlippin22 " i have been thru this with many intellectual people who just cannot get past there own ideas about our existence"
You seem eager to categorize me in a way you can deal with. Not unusual behavior for religious believers. However, I already told you that I spent the vast majority of my life as a Christian. And I was just as much one of those "intellectual people" when I was a believer as I am now. So, I'd suggest you part with your prejudices and preformulated categories.
the pharasees used big words of intelect too and they had our lord nailed to the cross. look i dont know why some peole get it and others dont, but whatever the reason is , there are consequences for challenging our creator. he is not playing games with any of us, our creator is far above you or anyones intellect, you actually should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking you know more than our creator, but you dont seem to care.keep poking your intelectual finger in his face you will be sorry
@MrSlippin22 It seems you're not capable of parting with your prejudices and preformulated categories, but quite content to ignore what I've told you about my history. When a believer demonstrates to me that he or she is on auto-pilot in this way, it lets me know the believer is not interested (and perhaps not even capable) of actual dialogue, but rather simply going through evangelistic and/or apologetic motions. Take that elsewhere. And good luck to you.
it is not what i say that he and you need to believe. it is what our all knowing creator who knows even your thoughts who says it. he also says this. for mocking his words to man kind
•Matthew 13:50 “furnace of fire…weeping and gnashing of teeth”
•Mark 9:48 “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”
•Revelation 14:10 “he will be tormented with fire and brimstone”
@MrSlippin22 Wow, you just don't get it! Im asking for evidence and instead you give me your own testimonial. Listen, this isnt the first time Someone has tried to "save" me. And dont you think I already know about hell? I was a catholic for fucks sake. So please stop throwing the bible at me because it wont work, it hasnt worked for the last 100 people that have tried it.
I want a logical, reasonable, extraordinary evidence from credible sources, of a God's existence. If not please stfu.
@MrSlippin22 BTW, I don't believe in a hell because Christians have yet to prove barely anything from the bible.
I'm not an atheist because I want to be "in control" as you put it. I'm an atheist because I see it as complete bullshit. God has not been proven, neither has heaven or hell, or anything. Noah's ark, Adam and Eve, have never historically happened and are theoretically impossible as constant incest leads to inbreeding. Evolution has also been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
@MrSlippin22 If he's not a coward than I can challenge him and he'll simply answer my questions without any long rhetoric about things I obviously don't know or my inability to save myself. No one disputes the power of an omnipotent deity or it wouldn't be omnipotent. If he uses that power to squash mortals like bugs every time a question is asked he is obviously not worthy of respect in the first place. WHAT DOES GOD NEED WITH A STARSHIP? :)
Fear of our lord is vital. he will not be challenged or tempted by anythng in his creation and thats what your doing . look do what ya want ! ok? God Bless
@MrSlippin22 So hes going to torture me for asking questions eh? Gee, thanks for the heads up, I'll try not to think too much. Should I blow my brains out?
@shitthrowingmonkey1 stop being stupid! god says you need to blow out non-believers brains! but it's OK, god will forgive you, just don't let him catch you using your brain again! why else would he put it there unless you weren't supposed to use it, duh.
@MrSlippin22 What will happen if we challenge him. BECAUSE... What we can do is create a "Challenge God" youtube campaign and if you're right everyone that challenges will be smoted.
Shall we continue with this experiment or do you want to admit right now that nothing will happen?
@ProfMTH I wouldn't exactly say replaced. I am a father and I have lost family members. I'm 60 years old. Nobody's happy about losing loved ones regardless of how. But I don't think anybody who has the promise of eternal blessings should call God anything, but fair and righteous.
@AlanRussellFuller "...I don't think anybody who has the promise of eternal blessings should call God anything, but fair and righteous."
Well, what you're basically saying is that as a believer you feel obligated to come to the text having already concluded that your god must be "fair and righteous" and, therefore, whatever appears in the text must be made to comport with the preexisting belief. There are a number of ways to describe. I'll just say it's your conclusion driving your analysis.
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: Job 42:12
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Job 19:25-26
@AlanRussellFuller "So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: Job 42:12"
If you had three children who were violently killed in a horrific accident and some time later six young people came along identifying themselves as your new children, would you regard your three dead children as having been doubly replaced?
Very very good work, why would anyone who has ever read the book of Job disagree with what is plainly stated? The God who sent His Son to be treated so unbelievably cruel then consent to Him being Murdered by nailing Him to a tree is a tough God, No two ways about It, Who could ever LOVE a God like that? If God is really GOOD he would FIX all that. and NEVER allow that to EVER happen again, The Bible says that's exactly what GOD did at the resurrection, Is that really the TRUTH? , continued
But wait,,,,,WHY would God CAUSE so much pain in the first place? It males NO sense to me And especially bringing pain and sorrow upon those He Loves so much? I do NOT approve of how GOD does things and neither did JOB nor PETER Matthew 16:22 . I used to think about these things a LOT. What do You think about this verse "ECCLESIASTES 7:8 Better [is] the end of a thing {than the beginning} thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit." what does that mean?
so really then God admits that hes not just that Job didnt deserve any of that crap .. and that God likes to play cosmic dick comparison .. so what then would be the guarantee that even if we lived as Job did and where blameless that God wouldn't just go " aw screw it go to hell the lot of ya" .. If there is a God based off this book we're royally fucked no matter what we do
The Bible is written by "Men inspired by God." As for me, it seem to be written for Men to control Mankind.. I have had bosses that think they are "Right" in doing wrong to their Employees... Even when the mistake is Prove Right. My Bosses always say the same thing, " It doesn't change anything." Yet they are at "Church" every Sunday, and they "Pray" before every meeting.. I just look at them and think to myself, "Is it God or Satan you are praying to." Peace to ALL.
I do not agree with your conclusions on the Book of Job but you do make a compelling argument. At least you are an atheist who has carefully scrutinized the Bible and can, therefore, make sound arguments. Good job.
This looks like an inferiior attempt by profMTH to find superiority. An exercize in feutility like all who want to dominate the universe. If you don't know your place in the scheme of things, you will just chase your tail till you are dead in a dark world. Conversly proMTH may be looking for love where there is emptyness, and not finding it. Therefore shaking his fist at God, like a child would who can't get what he wants. waa waa, daddy don't love me......
@BSmenot My recommendation would be not to give up your day job in favor of psychoanalyzing people. But even if everything you said were true, none of it refutes the case I've laid out regarding the Book of Job in this series. At best, you've offered only ad hominem. Do you have any substance to offer?
@BSmenot lol Well, at least you concede that you offered nothing. Just one correction to that: you offered ad hominem. Now I don't waste my time with people who have nothing but nonsense to offer. So good luck to you.
@ProfMTH This is the thing that pisses me off about nice people. Don't wish him luck man. He just might get some and go on spouting his pure stupidity to other gullible people. Your video shines light on just how absurd the Bible is. Ole buddy is being a dick like (presumably) his God. He realizes he doesn't have any valid refutations to your points.
@ProfMTH I agree with everything you said : ). When I was a Christian it was the ending of Job I found most disturbing. You dont annihilate a man's entire family and then make him a "better" family as compensation. We're talking about fucking human beings not property. As if 10 new children could ever replace the ones he lost.
And that's just the point! What kind of monster is this god who values so little a man's family, and ultimately Job's very life? Is it the ego of such a being that has blinded him to any compassion he might have had? And then, as you say, god gives Job replacements for his children!! What? Why didn't this omnipotent god give Job his original family back? Maybe god "can't" resurrect the dead!
If this story were actually true, and this god really existed, we'd all be in deep doodoo!
It's a sad thing that people are so quick to talk about others they don't know....I'll gladly make a broad brush assumption too.... I bet that you probably haven't read the actual book of Job, and find some sort of intellectual something in trying to act like you are privy to some sort of information the rest of us do not have. refute the arguments or sit down kiddo.lol
The book of Job should caused men and women to run to Christ's, especially, those who believe that Job was put through the ringer for "no reason" , then how about us? It pleased God to bruise Jesus for the sins of the world, Jesus, who knew no sin and with whom God was well pleased, then, again, I ask, how much more deserving are we of suffering or for punishment for those who do not accept HIS PLAN OF SALVATION? These series of videos makes me appreciate Jesus even more!!!
When I was young and read Job, really read it for the first time, I saw a straight up 'God is the toughest guy on the block story'. As a young Christian I read and came to the same conclusion as Job, "He's right because he has the power to say so."
I suggest that so many apologists spend so much time and write so many books and articles about Job, because they long to find a meaning that is NOT in the text. The apologists ignore huge parts of the text in order to find His boundless 'Love'.

@ProfMTH Nice Vid. I offer you this. The Lord used his most trustfull loyal creation at the time be tested and as you said to even fail.He tells of his glory. He uses Job and satan to tell of his Glory without it being brought forth by his own pride. Job asked him and he is answering his most faithfull servant.Job 38- is Gods testament and your challenge as a mere man. Pretty slick, God stepped up huge to show his glory . By the way. You think you have the answer but you do not. God has mercy on you. Trying to talk about the Bible under the flesh, this is no a book that you buy at the store and just read it as a regular book. This is Bible brother, you need an Spirituak connection to understand what the bible means, you remind me myself before I recoginized Jesus as my saviour.Brother your spiritual life is way off and to get close to it, you need Jesus. You are way of the understanding of the scriptures. God has mercy upon u
@ProfMTH Amen Brother, I will be specific. 2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost. This is my believe by the world of God. everything comes from the Holy Ghost, even the understanding of the Bible. You want revelation of what the Bible have to say, you need to ask the Holy Ghost. The Bible revelation does not come from common sense. Please learn more about the Holy Ghost. God Bless You
@soldado23 You *still* haven't been specific about what you believe I've gotten incorrect in this series. What specifically has the "Holy Ghost" shown you that I've gotten wrong?
@soldado23 "Do you believe in JesusChrist as your saviour?"
No, I don't believe in any gods. Will you be getting specific about what you believe I've gotten incorrect in this series OR will you continue this pattern of vague and irrelevant posts? If the latter, I won't bother wasting my time reading or responding to any more of them.
My whole point has been not to trap people, but to simply be clear about the difference in worldviews one where man is the measure of all things and a Christian worldview where God is the measure of all things. (I know that some do find themselves in a kind of existential angst believing that all is hopeless.)
Those who live with the former will not understand any explanation of the role or motive of God in the events they consider "ugly." They will see this God - who doesn't exist - a bully.
@campdon They will find objectionable the things they do not understand. Certainly you seem to. And they will declare God to be unjust, capricious, and dangerous. They judge him by their standards - as if their standards are "right" and everyone else's including God's are wrong.
That is the gist of your treatment of God in Job. But, you'll forgive me, that is simply myopic. Other people in other times have differed, not to speak of Job himself.
@campdon The point in tried to make is that the same offense might require a different treatment at different times. If the whole world is alcohol addicted, you help people out of their addiction one way or the other. If one person is pouring a wine which captures and destroys people in a hell then obviously you remove this person or his deeds. The israelites were considered holy and considered THEMSELVES holy.
Sobekha 2 weeks ago
@Sobekha Care to be specific?
ProfMTH 2 weeks ago
@ProfMTH Although I don't wish for a debate and I respect that the themes in Job are too complex to summarise easily in these videos. However you didn't make a reference to the books context, in regard to the culture and the theology of which Job was representing. The central story was written as poetry set between a prologue and, epilogue, highlighting concerns that the author had with divine punishment/suffering. It can't really be seen as a factual argument for (or against) the nature of God.
Sobekha 2 weeks ago
@Sobekha Perhaps you mised the point of this series. It was to respond to a very common and thoroughly erroneous Christian take on the Book of Job. I didn't set out to do a full literary study of the work, though I referenced a number of works that do this.
ProfMTH 1 week ago
@ProfMTH You've done a good job of specifying the nature of this series. The issue is not the content of the series, however the approach you take to bring your point across. Those other videos (that you replied to) were made by fundamentalists, ignorants and egotistical people. So their foolishness shows in their assumptions. You're clearly well educated and I think you could have clarified why you think Job is a reliable source for the argument against God.
I'm a Christian who agrees with you.

i like that part where god "makes up" for it by giving him more children and a new wife. reminds me of the parent that kills the dog and makes up for it by buying a new dog. accept in that instance the parent usually didnt kill the dog on purpose.
killing someone's wife and kids for, in his own words, no reason is cruel, and then giving him a new wife and kids rather than bringing back the original wife and kids is callous. god in the book of job proves he is a dick.

Christians are so dishonest they would even contradict God to defend God. I would accept Christianity a little bit more if they admitted God was fallible, even if he was powerful, but they just cannot do that. What a shame.
MunkyDrag0n 3 months ago
Actually, they can't admit God is less than "All-everything" in his nature, b/c if they did then the logical conclusion is that god isn't worthy of worship other than for the fact that he is the king shit.
Worst still for them is the fact that such as admission would destroy the foundational doctrine of Christianity, namely, that god is perfect & we are not, thus requiring Jesus to "bridge the perfection gap" by way of his sacrifice.
It's all a deck of cards ready to tumble down.

THAT is the Root of all Possibilities.
nicktesla45 2 weeks ago
@nicktesla45 Thanks for the reply & please consider the following:
What exactly is a "Cosmic point of view" & how doesn it differ from my current point of view? This seems like a poetic term that unless clearly defined adds nothing to my current search for better understandings
Regarding the hypothesis that ET's visited us in our distant past, I am open to such a theory, but it has to have good evidence for me to give it any weight? So where's the evidence? I just don't see it
LetReasonPrevail1 1 week ago
@LetReasonPrevail1 Read some of the books from Adventures Unlimited Publishing to star getting and Idea of the Mountain of Evidence that suggests we have been visited by ET's in the Distant Past . That's some funny shit, dude! :o) I give you props for that.
But as for the rest of your worthless response, just like most conspiracy theory advocates, you didn't address my question for any real evidence (I gave you a list of things that would qualify).

But I would have to say the most disappointing, but entirely expected, aspect of your response, was the part where you asserted:
"For That Matter the Goddam Bible itself Proves there are other gods , Read Genesis 18 verses 1,2, and 3 MORON !!"
Come on, Bro. All this proves is that Iron Age Man believed in many gods. It says nothing about whether or not these gods were real or imaginery
The type of logic you employ & demonstrate is painful to consider.
Ouch
LetReasonPrevail1 6 days ago
@nicktesla45
I appreciate your response
LetReasonPrevail1 1 week ago
@LetReasonPrevail1 My Unsupported Idea ?!! I beg to differ Sir, There is a whole Mountain of Archelogical Evidence to suggest the idea that we have been visited by Aliens in the distant past, Read some of the books published by Adventures Unlimited Press available on the web. it would be a Piece of Cake for some aliens to convince Bronze Age people that they were "Gods" with their advanced High-Tec gear. In Fact if I had access to a Time Machine even I could do the same with Todays technology.
nicktesla45 1 week ago
There is also a "mountain" of evidence that man didn't land on the moon. It just so happens it's a mountain of fraudulant bullshit. And just like the "no moon landing" so-called evidence, the ET evidence is a joke. The fact that it "would be a piece of cake for some aliens to convince Bronze Age people that they were in fact gods with their high-tec gear" in no way logically leads to the conclusion that they did in fact come & do so. This is the worst kind of argument.
LetReasonPrevail1 1 week ago
Do you know what kind of "ET came here" evidence would actually be convincing?
How about an actual spacecraft, or an artifact made from a metal-like substance that was unavailable to ancient mankind, or how about an actual alien corpse, or how about an alien communication of some kind?
What's that? Oh, I see. That kind of actual evidence doesn't exist.
Yea, but I should still believe your Theory.
Wow, sure, why not.
The stupid, it hurts...

Job doesn't "get his family back", instead he has them REPLACED
Only the most callous parent would say that getting "replacement" children is equivalent to never having lost their original kids
Such an equivocation shows a complete lack of basic humanity or simply exposes one's own high level of intellectual dishonesty
This type of reasoning is theistic apologetics at it's worst (or ironically at its best depending on your point of view)
So do you consider kids interchangable?
LetReasonPrevail1 2 months ago
@lease2coach the fact is human do not know for sure if life ends at death or continues after God's judgement. From what we know of Job and his family, they all went to Heaven. your reasoning is like some who gets a shot at the doctor for the first time and is miserable for 3 seconds, then hes fine. Humans dont know for sure what will hapen after death, its called freewill. God can do whatever He wants, he created us, and in His love he saved us through Jesus Christ not just let evil fall in Job
finxoner 4 months ago
@finxoner "God can do whatever He wants, he created us."
Really? You would agree with such nonsense? I am so glad you have no evidence for your beliefs.
surshot56 3 months ago
@lease2coach If God brings evil on him uses Job to teach him a lesson and inturn teach us all through this story then so be it. God does not delight in torturing the righteos, at the end God rewarded Job and im not aware of any other cases where God persecutes a righteous man, although God makes it clear that all fall short of the glory of God, Job was righteous, but then again he cursed God. And Satan did not operate without permission its clear from the text Satan was given permission from God
finxoner 4 months ago
your analogy of "God shot the gun" doesnt really work because a bullet does not have freewill and can not decide to NOT kill a man.

God tested Job. Job stayed faithful, and God Blessed him at the end. To a Jew, Christian, or Muslim (their text s a bit different.) Job shows us how we should live. Always give thanks to the Lord. with out God to test us how does he know we aren't just using him to get a blessing.
shootifyoucan 4 months ago in playlist rox;s
God loves all, but we all must love God. God will test us to see how faithful we are, and trough these test we will come closer to God. God needs to know we love him, because our God is a jealous God, but he is also a great God who sticks through thick and thin. God will always be there for you once he knows you are faithful to him. Amen.
shootifyoucan 4 months ago in playlist rox;s
It takes faith to do something amazing.
Now I would like to note: The Bible is note only a Holy Scripture but it is also a tool. It can be used as something God. A tool can be used for good or evil. Like a book on how to live life, or the words of it can be twisted and used to draw people away, or trick them into doing malicious things.
shootifyoucan 4 months ago in playlist rox;s
Now in actuality I dislike arguing over the existence of God. In my heart I know God is real. In my heart I know God to be a jealous, but also loving, caring and faithful God. "There is no God, but God" (in words of many Muslims)
I'm going to leave my comment off here for now.
shootifyoucan 4 months ago in playlist rox;s

I have!
utubejvs3 5 months ago
The book of Job is a metaphor of the Nation of Israel [I am not Jewish] who have brought TRUTH into the world and have greatly suffered for it for milleniums!
God will take responsibility for what has happened because is LORD and there can only be one. Faith says God is HOLY, OMNIPOTENT, JUST and His Character changes not...Israel and God will be vindicated when Christ returns from Heaven. Faith looks beyond the earthly dark conclusions that have no light

Christians say all good out of fear and horror of this being, and it shouldn't be this way, if something is wrong speak up.
adrianchriste6 5 months ago
This is the god who decides to one day sacrifice himself to HIMSELF as a way to forgive people of their sins (when he never needed a sacrifice). The god of the Bible displays the character of that of a sadistic psychopath. Who enjoys death and destruction and has a weird obsession with blood.
MrEmeraldfusion 5 months ago
I don't know of any other bible story which allows us such insight into the extent of Yahweh's evil nature & his mind, which I see as Psychopathic.
Lets look at this part of the story, where god allows (or instructs) Satan to kill Jobs children. Here's this loyal man who loves god so much, but god doesn't value this, as he has no problem in killing his children, & when he replaces them, it's not with the original 1s! Maybe god couldn't! Or maybe god was having a last laugh at Job's expense?
Cootabux 5 months ago
I've always found the story of Job the most enigmatic and contradictory story in the Bible. First of all, what was Satan doing there with God in the first place? Wasn't he banished from heaven long before? Secondly, there was most certainly a reason for what God did however it did not pertain to Job but rather to God himself. He had made a wager with Satan and felt the need to prove a point. Not only is this unbecoming for a supposedly omnipotent being, it betrays a deep seated insecurity.
glazinq 5 months ago
Great video thanks. It is interesting to see how Bible stories are a reflection of the chaotic world we experience-a world which often seems unfair- with people who have harmed no one getting ill or dying young. As Robert M Price says in the excellent book 'The reason driven life' we live in a morally neutral universe. The author of Job writes words into the imaginary characters. His hypothesis about why things happen has failed, see Victor J Stenger, Dan Barker, John W. Loftus, Jason Long

Isn't Satan referred to as Hassatan or something along those lines in the original Hebrew, meaning not only was it not Satan but the accuser/opposer an angel of the lord who challenged god on his terms; placing all the blame on god in the first place since nothing would have happened had he said no. The lack of self-control god shows in the bible is astounding.

u challenging our all knowng creator? we are all responsible for every word that comes out of our mouth to the lord he tells us Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. this applies to us now. ill take forgivness how about u?
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

@MrSlippin22 Do you have anything to say that is relevant to the video or did you just drop by to make an evangelistic pitch? :-)

if you think satan did this then thats fine but he's already in hell so this doesnt apply to him. whoever tempts the lord will be put in hell who is not already there, i got my warning i was going to hell, sept of 2008 and i was told to change my ways, and that what im doing, do what you want but he tells us Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

@MrSlippin22 You're certainly entitled to your belief. But rest assured: it's not a matter of even the slightest concern to me.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
this is not a beleif based on opinion as yours is, its truth that you will come to when your life is done here, i didnt know how real satan was and the power of his deception. until i came face to face with it and was saved by the son our creator sent, watch the video on my channel titled I am the way, the truth and the life! if wat happed to me and all of what god has done thru the centuries still dont convince you that he is in deed the one u will anser to then i cant say any more. God bless!
MrSlippin22 8 months ago
@MrSlippin22 With all due respect, to say that your belief is "based on opinion" is to say too much. Your belief is based on mythology penned by different people a very long time ago.
I spent the vast majority of my life as a Christian. I left it (and religious belief generally) after a long, thoughtful, and difficult process that I discuss in a number of my videos. There will be no one to answer to when life is over. But if you choose to believe there will be, you're certainly free to do so.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
did you give that or any of my videos a second of your time?
MrSlippin22 8 months ago
@MrSlippin22 Not yet. I will when time permits.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
ok brother, I hope you get somthng out of it. however i have been thru this with many intellectual people who just cannot get past there own ideas about our existence, and i dont know why its like that , but just beleive what happened is true. remember i didn nothing to deserve being saved other than this << Matthew 7:7
"Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
MrSlippin22 8 months ago
@MrSlippin22 " i have been thru this with many intellectual people who just cannot get past there own ideas about our existence"
You seem eager to categorize me in a way you can deal with. Not unusual behavior for religious believers. However, I already told you that I spent the vast majority of my life as a Christian. And I was just as much one of those "intellectual people" when I was a believer as I am now. So, I'd suggest you part with your prejudices and preformulated categories.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
the pharasees used big words of intelect too and they had our lord nailed to the cross. look i dont know why some peole get it and others dont, but whatever the reason is , there are consequences for challenging our creator. he is not playing games with any of us, our creator is far above you or anyones intellect, you actually should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking you know more than our creator, but you dont seem to care.keep poking your intelectual finger in his face you will be sorry
MrSlippin22 8 months ago
@MrSlippin22 It seems you're not capable of parting with your prejudices and preformulated categories, but quite content to ignore what I've told you about my history. When a believer demonstrates to me that he or she is on auto-pilot in this way, it lets me know the believer is not interested (and perhaps not even capable) of actual dialogue, but rather simply going through evangelistic and/or apologetic motions. Take that elsewhere. And good luck to you.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
your decived and you dont know it and you will see . ive been thru this with many other people nothing i can do for you, have a good one. God Bless

it is not what i say that he and you need to believe. it is what our all knowing creator who knows even your thoughts who says it. he also says this. for mocking his words to man kind
•Matthew 13:50 “furnace of fire…weeping and gnashing of teeth”
•Mark 9:48 “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”
•Revelation 14:10 “he will be tormented with fire and brimstone”

@MrSlippin22 I'm not a child anymore, so please, if you want to "save" me stop trying to scare me and use real evidence. BYE! :)
1AndrewTheWolf 7 months ago
@MrSlippin22 Wow, you just don't get it! Im asking for evidence and instead you give me your own testimonial. Listen, this isnt the first time Someone has tried to "save" me. And dont you think I already know about hell? I was a catholic for fucks sake. So please stop throwing the bible at me because it wont work, it hasnt worked for the last 100 people that have tried it.
I want a logical, reasonable, extraordinary evidence from credible sources, of a God's existence. If not please stfu.

@MrSlippin22 I'm shakin' I'm shakin'.
1AndrewTheWolf 7 months ago
@MrSlippin22 BTW, I don't believe in a hell because Christians have yet to prove barely anything from the bible.
I'm not an atheist because I want to be "in control" as you put it. I'm an atheist because I see it as complete bullshit. God has not been proven, neither has heaven or hell, or anything. Noah's ark, Adam and Eve, have never historically happened and are theoretically impossible as constant incest leads to inbreeding. Evolution has also been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
1AndrewTheWolf 7 months ago
@MrSlippin22 So, if you reply with just bible verses, don't expect a reply from me, because clearly you haven't been listening to me.
1AndrewTheWolf 7 months ago
@MrSlippin22 If he's not a coward than I can challenge him and he'll simply answer my questions without any long rhetoric about things I obviously don't know or my inability to save myself. No one disputes the power of an omnipotent deity or it wouldn't be omnipotent. If he uses that power to squash mortals like bugs every time a question is asked he is obviously not worthy of respect in the first place. WHAT DOES GOD NEED WITH A STARSHIP? :)
shitthrowingmonkey1 7 months ago
Fear of our lord is vital. he will not be challenged or tempted by anythng in his creation and thats what your doing . look do what ya want ! ok? God Bless

@MrSlippin22 What will happen if we challenge him. BECAUSE... What we can do is create a "Challenge God" youtube campaign and if you're right everyone that challenges will be smoted.

@ProMTH There can't be any more final conclusion than life after death regardless of what statements are made elsewhere.
AlanRussellFuller 8 months ago
@ProMTH It's also Job's conclusion. Job 19:25-26. The only ones who can complain are the evil faithless, who are rebellious like Satan.
AlanRussellFuller 8 months ago
@AlanRussellFuller Actually, it's not Job's conclusion. Either you didn't watch the entire series or you didn't pay attention.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
@ProfMTH I wouldn't exactly say replaced. I am a father and I have lost family members. I'm 60 years old. Nobody's happy about losing loved ones regardless of how. But I don't think anybody who has the promise of eternal blessings should call God anything, but fair and righteous.
AlanRussellFuller 8 months ago

The point is, Job had faith and God is just.
AlanRussellFuller 8 months ago
@AlanRussellFuller "So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: Job 42:12"
If you had three children who were violently killed in a horrific accident and some time later six young people came along identifying themselves as your new children, would you regard your three dead children as having been doubly replaced?
ProfMTH 8 months ago
Very very good work, why would anyone who has ever read the book of Job disagree with what is plainly stated? The God who sent His Son to be treated so unbelievably cruel then consent to Him being Murdered by nailing Him to a tree is a tough God, No two ways about It, Who could ever LOVE a God like that? If God is really GOOD he would FIX all that. and NEVER allow that to EVER happen again, The Bible says that's exactly what GOD did at the resurrection, Is that really the TRUTH? , continued
howsziz 8 months ago
But wait,,,,,WHY would God CAUSE so much pain in the first place? It males NO sense to me And especially bringing pain and sorrow upon those He Loves so much? I do NOT approve of how GOD does things and neither did JOB nor PETER Matthew 16:22 . I used to think about these things a LOT. What do You think about this verse "ECCLESIASTES 7:8 Better [is] the end of a thing {than the beginning} thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit." what does that mean?
howsziz 8 months ago
so really then God admits that hes not just that Job didnt deserve any of that crap .. and that God likes to play cosmic dick comparison .. so what then would be the guarantee that even if we lived as Job did and where blameless that God wouldn't just go " aw screw it go to hell the lot of ya" ..

BSmenot 10 months ago
@BSmenot My recommendation would be not to give up your day job in favor of psychoanalyzing people. But even if everything you said were true, none of it refutes the case I've laid out regarding the Book of Job in this series. At best, you've offered only ad hominem. Do you have any substance to offer?
ProfMTH 10 months ago
@ProfMTH It's just a comment. But if I want your advice I'll give it to ye.
BSmenot 10 months ago
@BSmenot So I take it the answer to my question is, no, you have nothing of substance to offer. Thanks.
ProfMTH 10 months ago
@ProfMTH Of course not. Your comments and videos are without principle or substance. So that is what you get back. Nothing for nothing.
BSmenot 10 months ago
@BSmenot lol Well, at least you concede that you offered nothing. Just one correction to that: you offered ad hominem. Now I don't waste my time with people who have nothing but nonsense to offer. So good luck to you.
ProfMTH 10 months ago
@ProfMTH This is the thing that pisses me off about nice people. Don't wish him luck man. He just might get some and go on spouting his pure stupidity to other gullible people. Your video shines light on just how absurd the Bible is. Ole buddy is being a dick like (presumably) his God. He realizes he doesn't have any valid refutations to your points.
Elpha22 9 months ago
@ProfMTH I agree with everything you said : ). When I was a Christian it was the ending of Job I found most disturbing. You dont annihilate a man's entire family and then make him a "better" family as compensation. We're talking about fucking human beings not property. As if 10 new children could ever replace the ones he lost.
adler2adler 8 months ago
@adler2adler Exactly.
ProfMTH 8 months ago
adler2adler

He uses Job and satan to tell of his Glory without it being brought forth by his own pride. Job asked him and he is answering his most faithfull servant.Job 38- is Gods testament and your challenge as a mere man. Pretty slick, God stepped up huge to show his glory . By the way. The Bible revelation does not come from common sense. Please learn more about the Holy Ghost. God Bless You

ProfMTH 11 months ago
My whole point has been not to trap people, but to simply be clear about the difference in worldviews one where man is the measure of all things and a Christian worldview where God is the measure of all things. (I know that some do find themselves in a kind of existential angst believing that all is hopeless.)
Those who live with the former will not understand any explanation of the role or motive of God in the events they consider "ugly." They will see this God - who doesn't exist - a bully.
campdon 1 year ago
@campdon They will find objectionable the things they do not understand. Certainly you seem to. And they will declare God to be unjust, capricious, and dangerous. They judge him by their standards - as if their standards are "right" and everyone else's including God's are wrong.
That is the gist of your treatment of God in Job. But, you'll forgive me, that is simply myopic. Other people in other times have differed, not to speak of Job himself.
campdon 1 year ago
@campdon The point in tried to make is that the same offense might require a different treatment at different times. If the whole world is alcohol addicted, you help people out of their addiction one way or the other. If one person is pouring a wine which captures and destroys people in a hell then obviously you remove this person or his deeds. The israelites were considered holy and considered THEMSELVES holy.
