I think in the upcoming ME3 the should up the amount of weapons, but not so much as ME1 had just because that got to the point of tedious with the extremely cluttered inventory.
and how does reducing the quantity help? and playing ME2, i never even bother to do any customization, or doing any weapon swap. Using only 1-2 guns (Heavy weapon due to limited ammo) for the entire game. Players cant even customize companions equipment.
have it your way. I m just disappointed at how bioware handled their future titles, ME1 will be my last game from Bioware.
I cant even be sure what right as genres started crossbreed with each other.
i believe there are multiple types of subgenres of RPGs. Theres is the storyline RPG (which is usually a point and click games) and theres the traditional RPG which most gamers are familiar with.
But as an old timer bioware RPG gamer, Bioware has begun abandoning its fundamentals on what an RPG supposed to be.
@y3ivan Oh boo fucking hoo, you must be one of those people that still belive that ME1 was an exceptional game because of the "RPG elements", when in reality it great because of it's characters, story, storytelling and the fantastic universe built around it, ME2 was no different in that aprouch (even better imho).
@TheOhrenberger So you'd rather watch your character stare at a wall for a minute than see a 3D model of something that shows the floors and where you're going? Yeah right....
@lucaschallenger But apparently, the RPG elitists like the gun recolors. OOOH, A GUN THAT IS SHAPED THE SAME BUT IS BLACK INSTEAD OF BLUE, SHOOTS THE SAME, BUT IS .1% MORE POWERFUL!!! Tedious and unnecessary. It was a chore to use that inventory.
@00loneX THANK YOU. A lot of what you are saying I totally agree with. Yeah Mass Effect went a little crazy with the removal of RPG elements, but at least they got rid of all of the unnecessary PAINS that ME1 was full of. I still think ME2 is definitely an overall better game and a worth sequel, and ME3 looks to include a lot more of the RPG elements that were missing.
also "Oh look! Armor thats slightly better than the set I have on! Wait...its a leopard print pink wet suit? DAMMIT."
ME1 is still had better and complex gameplay than ME2. Rifles for instance had different stats (+40% dmg vs Synthetics). Even Armour types had different rating n defense vs different types of elements. In ME2, they removed them completely and made extremely simple upgrade system.
As a gamer, those changes made this game look like any other shooters with a babylon5 theme slapped to it. I prioritize gameplay more than story, after all im paying $60 for a game not a movie
@y3ivan Umm. When I played ME1, the so called "upgrades" to weapons and armor were so marginal and meaningless that I literally did not notice a difference. I'm all for traditional RPG stats and management, but only if it's done well; ME1 did not do it well. Every assault rifle (as well as all other gun classes) fired at the same rate, sounded the same, and the only noticeable difference I saw when upgrading was when I got specter gear.
@y3ivan Everything else was unbearable, useless crap. And don't even get me started on the friggen auto-pick up. Every. Five. Minuets. INVENTORY FULL. PAUSE CLUNKY SHOOTER MECHANIC GAMEPLAY. WASTE TIME CONVERTING USELESS CRAP TO USELESS OMNI-GEL. REPEAT. It was NOT fun. And last time I checked, games were meant to be fun. Also, gameplay is not just the stats and inventory. ME1 was a stiff, inefficient, clunky, and generally poor attempt at shooter combat.
@y3ivan It's not a shooter, its still a RPG/TPS hybrid. Remember my first comment to you? You yourself proved that stats/inventory/upgrade does not make a game an RPG. ME2 still had it, it was just streamlined. You could still upgrade your powers and weapons, just on the ship. What makes a RPG is actual role playing, which ME1 AND 2 had. Character creation and customization, progression, decision making. It was all there in both games, so stop with the shooter crap, because it's not true
@y3ivan And no, complicated interfaces and inventories do not make a ROLE PLAYING GAME. Actual role playing does, stats and inventory are just elements to create a role playing experience but are not required to do so. Did you know that Mass Effect 1 was originally an Xbox360 exclusive until EA bought Bioware?
@y3ivan ME2 vastly improved the mechanics of the gameplay. "But oh no! Combat doesn't suck, so it is a dumbed down shooter!" sputter the annoying fanboys. Yes, it would have been better to improve the mechanics, but getting rid of the useless crap was in no way a bad thing. If you played the ME3 co-op, there are more weapons, upgrades and the like. But instead of carrying a bunch of obsolete junk, the game auto upgrades the guns. "gun I" to "gun IV" is made seamless.
@y3ivan The upgrades are still marginal, but since there is no tedious task to convert the obsolete models, it's no longer a player issue. Also with stat powers, I'd much rather have less upgrades if each one actually did something noticeable rather than wait 6 levels of constantly upgrading a deep skill tree to notice differences. ME3 expands the wasted potential of ME2, where each upgrade drastically improves stats, and I actually have to think when assigning points.
@y3ivan So the argument that ME1 had better gameplay is just flat out untrue, because the shooter aspects were C-grade at best. And its annoying tedious inventory and meaningless stats did nothing but impede my enjoyment of the game. I don't care if a game has RPG mechanics or not. And I don't care if a RPG developer decided to try their hand at a RPG/TPS. It's such a shame that you can't do the same, because you would enjoy so many more games.
@y3ivan Also, I was able to beat insanity, with no upgrades and with starter weapons. Enemies were still retarded, they just had a crap ton of health and shields which isn't hard.
i meant better gameplay mechanics does not mean that you prove it by beating it at insanity just by slowly spamming your weapons at the dumb AI (bioware isnt particularly good in AI programming anyway).
My point of gameplay was depth of the system. More talent and weapon variety and each character is specialized with a set of weapons.
However ME1 talent system needed to expand further
@y3ivan Except there was no variety, it was all an illusion. Every gun shot the same, they all looked the same just with different colors. And the actual differences in power were completely marginal. Same with the armor. If you look at ME3, there are just the same amount of variety in weapons as ME1, right down to the gun levels I-X. Except it auto upgrades. Say for example you have the Katana I shotgun. When you get the Katana II, the old gun will be replaced so there is no more
@y3ivan faffing about with useless junk in the inventory. Also the weapon variety in ME3 is vastly better. Each gun has it's own unique properties, shape, design, fire rate, damage, even weight. Weapon mods make a return and they also follow the auto upgrade system with the guns, and I love it. Mixes the want for customization and ease of use. So I can safely say it has been expanded.
@y3ivan 1. Again, marginal differences between the stats and actual usefulness. For example, I had an assault rifle with a low accuracy rating. I got an AR with an accuracy in the high 100s, but when I used it, no noticeable changes. When I got my first specter AR, then i noticed changes. but it was only 20 or so accuracy pts higher than the previous.
2. I'm not denying ME2 had less customization. But the ME1 customization was so bad that I did not miss it.
@y3ivan Also, ME2 had 4 ARs. M8 Avenger, Vindicator, Geth Pulse Rifle, and the Mattok Heavy Rifle. At least each of them looked differently and acted differently rather than be copy paste recolors with allegedly better stats.
Some of system has return to ME3 but still not as good as the first ME, I could say about half been implemented and no new gameplay innovation. Except of the execution move spinoff from gears of war.
@y3ivan Ugh. Now I get it. You are a quantity > quality guy. The ME1 system was broken, tedious and a chore to use. But seeing as how you are the "traditional"rpg fan who values unintuitive inventory menus as a staple in the RPG genere, then there is no dissuading you. More of something does not mean it's better.
I'm 50/50, ME 1 was a grand introduction into an expansive new world I loved it, the story is one of the best in gaming, interesting characters (Wrex) and an important backstory, ME 2 didnt ruin this, they just altered the way it was shown, added a few explosions and upped the stakes, what DID annoy me however, was that there was less diplomacy, more shooting and stabbing, I'm okay with BioWare adding some action... it makes it interesting, but not when you remove the sense in it all
Just played Mass Effect 3 demo.. What the fuck is up with Bioware ruining every series they make? I loved Dragon Age:Origins, played Dragon Age 2..they turned it into an action game... Played Mass Effect 10/10 amazing game.. played Mass Effect 3...turned it into an action game...seriously is it just me that thinks its a rip off of Gears of War? and whats up with them going from unlimited ammo to guns that use a magazine..? How did they go backwards in technology?
@darrenegan2k9 So you don't like that they now allow you to move around the battlefield fluently, and you don't like that they make you use ammo? People always have something to bitch about I guess...
@darrenegan2k9 Because a weapon having unlimited ammo isn't plausable at all... I personally think the ammo system which Mass Effect 2 also has is far better. No idea why you think it's like Gears of War.
@XManimal Mass effect 2 may be Mass effect action heavy version
But Mass effect 3 is Gears of war space version from the demo I can tell, where is the NPC interaction? where is the detailed conversation tree? Where is the exploreable city? None!
The only things we can do in Mass effect 3 are: Shooting or watching cutscene
@lordzilu1584 If the demo is the entire starting sequence of the game then i'll be dissapointed as well, but at this point i choose to believe that they decided to leave some build up and dialogue choices.
@XManimal The problem is I felt Mass effect 3 will be worse than both Mass effect 2 and Mass effect 1
From the demo it's terrible.. Bioware tries to make Mass effect 3 as a pure third-person shooter, but they are like at least one generation behind Epic games or Naughty dog
@lordzilu1584 Dude, it's a fucking demo. You try fitting in Mass Effect conversations as well as the gameplay into the 2GB demo limit. And until Marcus Fenix can turn himself into biotic energy, charge across the battle field and make cover in a cover-based shooter redundant, calling it Gears of War in space is grounds for trolling.
@XManimal Actually. It was never really unlimited. If any of those tards actually took an interest in Mass Effect lore. A small metal block is inside every gun. The gun chips off particles to use as bullets, offering millions of possible shots. The Thermal clips refereed to ammo is a way to prevent overheating. They absorb the heat generated by the gun allowing for faster intervals between shots. Thermal clips are also universal. They do not actually add ammo.
@17E4O08 I used to have a 360. It got the RRoD about 13 months after I bought it. Forking out $50 for live along with buying a new xbox is too costly for a system with 2 quality exclusives.
Why the fuck did they remove most of citadel exploration i hate that i can't access the presidium (other that the embassies) and enjoy stuff around me :(
ME2 was a great game, and I enjoyed it, but it just didn't live up to the original. I never felt connected to the world, and everything just seemed so generic and simplified.
when we complained about the elevators, it was because they were so long. we didn't want them to go away. I'd much rather sit in an elevator than stare at a loading screen. Anyone else with me on this?
@TheOhrenberger Yeah. I mean, Mass Effect has such a nice and immersive world, and actually going down elevators was part of that (even though it took forever ). We just can't understand why an elevator takes forever when you can cross space is a matter of minutes.
@TheOhrenberger Yeah I agree I didn’t mind them either, plus I remember some pretty cool elevator conversations. ME2 was a brilliant game but some of the little things that made the first game so awesome were missing.
I personally preffer ME1, I loved the music the weapon wheel and the customization. Sure the combat isn't better, but the game didn't always evolve around combat which I preffered. I loved the enviroments, and just exploring and finding random side quests that don't involve combat. ME1 felt more of an RPG, and am I the only one who liked the elovater rides? You can always hear news sections, or one of your party members will say their opinion on situations or how they feel.
Well I liked that with mass effect 1, I could upgrade my weapons right from the main menu. I really like the armor mods and weapons mods the way they were originally. And what every happened to regular grenades? lol. Idk to me ME1 had better gameplay but since in ME2 we have more biotic abilities its better core gameplay.
The biggest problem with Mass Effect 1 was the shitty vehicle controls. It is the only reason I dislike sections of playing Mass Effect 1. I did barely any side quests due to the fact of I had t drive that shitty vehicle and the only times i rage quit ME was the vehicle sections. Big Rigs controlled better than that hunk of crap. I'm glad they got rid of it for ME2 and I hope it doesn't return in ME3. Apart from that ME1 was pretty awesome in it's own right.
ME had a better main story, but ME2 had a richer amount of characters. And IGN does a poor job of explaining that the technical problems of ME are only associated with consoles. Completing everything in ME on PC takes a little over 30 hours while 360 takes nearly 50. This gap is basically do to process speed. ME galaxy map is faster to navigate compared the galaxy map on ME2. ME2 upped the gameplay/characters, but ME had the better overall story/experience. ME2 is better for simple mind people.
watch?v=pdyeswVXEcU i actually sitarted a ME 1 playthrough not to long ago but its crap so dont even bother going to this link. yes im just doing this to troll so mark as spam. i know i will.
I don't understand how people can't see that ME 2 had way better character development. Take a character like Tali for example in ME 2 you see her practicaly go through hell during her loyalty mission as she tries to come to terms with what her father had done and you really see her as a person. In ME 1 she was little more than codex entry on the quarians. The only squadmate from ME 1 that had character development on par with the character development ME 2 squadmates have is Wrex at virmire
Mass Effect 1 had a far better plot and far better characters, and it was way more mature in those respects than it's successor. ME2 was better looking and more fun to play, but most of the new characters were unoriginal and underdeveloped, and the story...well it could have been better. I'm by no means saying that ME2 is bad, I love the game; but when it gets as much praise as it has, and it's predecessor get's so little respect, I can't help but feel a bit disgusted.
by the end of the game I had 7.8 mil. Also, I like the leveling system in ME2 a lot more. It actually makes you think about where to put your points. And I found that I was using my squad a lot more in ME2. In ME1 I just kinda let them do their thing and barely ever brought up the command menu. In ME2 I found myself constantly bringing it up during fights to plan my squads attacks.
I'm surprised there is so many people who like ME1 better... I am a huge fan of rpg's (Bethesda rpg games probably fill up my top 5 fav games) but I still loved ME2. One of the most annoying things about ME1 was having to spend ages omni-gelling all the crap in your inv, even though you already had mazes omnigel. Another fact that I don't think has been mentioned yet is that ME2 actually makes you work for credits... With my level 50 ME1 char I didn't even do anything to try to find money, and
@jackinator00 It shouldn't be surprising . It's the same situation as Fallout 3 being liked more then Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim . Skyrim is more content BUT the atmosphere , universe , etc are no where near as good as fallout . Plus the story is better
@fan977 I never hated on the characters or anything you stated. You are pointing out your opinions are a fact aswell...next time think about what somebody said before posting nonsense. Its my perosonal opinion and if you dont like it get a life or hobby..ad absurdum my friend
They streamlined Mass Effect 2 so they could appeal to a wider audience. That's not to say they made it worse, it's still an outstanding game just that there is not as much time going in and out of menus to micromanage. But I will say I did prefer Mass Effect 1 because it just had more elements that appealed to me.
what i liked from mass effect 2 is; the paragon and renagade options (ie throwing a guy out a window during a conversasion), ammo powers, and upgradeing the normandy (a little bit though, it wasn't that good). what disappointed me was; no weapon mods, lack of rpg elements (felt like a shooter more than anything), stupid romance options, uninteresting and unoriginal character back stories, and not being able to customize history if we didn't have a character to import. ME1 > ME2
@WalleWildBerrie I firmly believe it was a let down. Since they removed so much of what made ME1 great. That's great you love both of them, congrats. That's my opinion, get over it.
I totally agree.ME2 was a hybrid not a pure RPG.They wanted to sell more copies,so they removed alot of RPG elements for the action gameplay. Its all about the money these days and not about making a good game.Look at game franchises like call of duty or need for speed.Thats how you kill a brand.
@watchinginaz Better character development?Dont make me laugh. They had almost no RPG elements in ME2.It felt like a shooter with multiple choice dialogues. They had less weapons and armors in ME2,stupid mining minigame and all you basicly did,was to find/recruit all the sidekicks.Thats the story, how lame.I really enjoyed playing it but the story was aweful, the boss was way to easy and looked retarded(giant terminator).ME1 endings felt really epic.Like you acomplished something and saved the day.
@Heimdall1999 No RPG elements? That is a very ignorant comment, there is a research terminal that allows Shepard to learn up to 7 different skills depending on his class and you can choose if you want to do more damage to a group or one solo target at a time, or you prefer to have more armor and do more damage, and it has weapon, skill and armor improvements for the wole squad, did you even bother using the research terminal or just ignored it and rushed through the game?
@fan977 Me2 has very few rpg elements thats right. Me2 got rid of the micromanaging , weapons , upgrading , and overhauled the level up and inventory system . Notice they are coming back in me3 .
@jtgtjtgt My point is the weapons are very few in number compared to ME 1 but they are still there and they are all far more varied than any weapon in ME 1 and Weapon and Armor upgrades are there on the research terminals, sadly they got rid of mods but they still have incinerary ammo, warp and disruptor ammo. Not being able to customize your mates armor and the lack of upgrades on them is a let down though.
@Heimdall1999 And ofcourse if you don't connect the story of ME 2 to ME 1 or even try to get into the background of things you will just view the story the way you see, ME 2 was a good advancement from ME 1 to ME 3, it did give you an idea what became of the Protheans and what were the Reapers planning by wiping out races, it answered some plotholes from ME 1 and the story is terrible?
@jtgtjtgt Why do you have to compare the stories? You have to connect them, if you connect ME1's plot and events to ME2 and get into the background of things, you will see the story is actually very good, just not as good as ME 1. But ME2 had to carry forward the story to the final game and it accomplished that task and it also cleared up what happened to the Protheans (Reapers brainwashed them and turned them into their puppets) and why exactly were Reapers wiping races out.
@Heimdall1999 The characters, their developments & romance plots are carried out better in ME 2, Jack, Mordin, Zaeed, Thane & Samara all had interesting backgrounds & their own loyalty missions that had great backstory & advancement. How many characters can you say that about in ME 1? In ME 1 you had Ashley and kaiden some of the most boring and generic characters you will see in a Sci-Fi game, and Garrus was not special he feels waay more badass in ME 2.
@Heimdall1999 Lastly you are pointing out your opinion about ME 2 like it is a fact and forcing other people to accept them. There are things ME 1 does better than ME 2 (Story, More exploration, more equipment, more rpg elements) and vice versa (characters, character development, better equipment, better side quests, larger galaxy map). Sorry but you sound like one of those people who jumped on the Bioware hate wagon ever since EA took over just because it is just a cool thing to do.
@GN0MEz if you buy on ps3 (or you can download on xbox) u get an interactive comic which lets you make the decisions from mass effect 1 so it depends whether you want to play it or not
@GN0MEz I'd try to do that, if you could. I played the second one first, and still LOVED it. But a lot of content flies over your head if you don't recognize the big names. So do try and get the first!
fuck all the game critics i enjoyed exploring new planets with the mako and destroying a load of cerberus bases, if it wasnt for their big mouths we wouldnt of had those boring planet scanners
Umm sorry ign, but I do believe Mass Effect 2 was less story intensive than ME1. Aside from the assignments, pretty much everything you did in the first game was story based. In the second, you have to drop everything with the Collectors to do dossier or loyalty missions that didn't really feel like the main plot. That's the sole reason why I found the first more satisfying. The feeling once those credits started rolling was no where near the feeling of accomplishment in the second, imo.
Whoever wrote this obviously wasn't following the community's actual comments.
Fans didn't dislike the Mako itself--they hated the god-awful physics and uncharted worlds (90 degree mountain ranges) that came with it. Same thing with the inventory--fans hated the interface and how cluttered it became, but not the concept. Why completely remove these things? Now we've got the Hammerhead, which can't take three pistol shots before blowing up in flames and only two or three versions of each weapon.
@KayFirefly77 thats true but mass effect 3 is going to combine the two into a glorious mixture, they are bringing back the gun customization in a much more advanced but still simple way and they are putting much more customization into the powers, mass effect 3 is going to be what you make it so if you want an rpg like mass effect then play the role playing mode, if you want it to be a shooter instead play the action mode, and if you just want the story just play the story mode
I like ME 2 better, but I don't like some of the things they did. Loading screens and mission complete screens that break immersion. (Bring back elevators!) Thermal clips (isn't s temporary overheat better than running out of ammo?) It became too linear and took out all the items from before, bring them back!
Im playing 'ME 1 again now and to be honest I think it's much better than ME 2. The i combat is "cooler" in ME 2 but i think its funnier in ME1 because you have much more talents and only the once you use gets on cooldown. The conversations in ME1 is also much more versitile, you only get renegade/paragon points for certain dialogues and it's fairly rare. The story is far superior and i LOVE the uncharted planets.. I thought ME 2 was much better but now playing it again ive changed my mind
Everyone saying they liked the elevators in ME1, BULLSHIT. You're just trying to pull anything out of your ass to "prove" ME1 was better. Wake up and smell the coffee, ME2 is far superior...
@HunterJs2 Those people are bitten with the nostalgia bug. I still play ME 1 to this day but ME 2 is better in almost every signficant way. ME 1 might do a few little things better but ME 2 is just a better overall package. I guess some people let nostalgia cloud their judgement.
@watchinginaz Ok, i just finished trough ME1, so no nostalgia for me ,and it was awesome, and then i started playing ME2, and all i got was disapointment, just better graphics and that is it. It cant be compared to ME1, its just a better overall package..
@kojbo How is ME 1 a better package? ME 2 has better gameplay, more content, better DLC support, more distinction between classes, better character development, sidequests that are not repetitive, more weapon options, etc... The only argument you make for ME 1 is the story (which is subjective) and since ME 2 is the middle part of the trilogy the middle part of any trilogy is always the hardest part to write.
So tell me how is ME 1 better? I still love ME 1 but ME 2 is just better period
2. Side quests in ME1 weren't repetitive(and you better not be saying that because of the "dungeon" areas.)
3. The variety on abilities dwindled down alot, but I expect that being because they wanted to cater to more action oriented gamers. Engineers are basically tali and legion so that sucks, but I can deal with it.
4. Better character development. No.
5. ME2's story seemed more filler than actual continuity with the series.
@watchinginaz I should just copy paste LoryuoRaioneru responce.I might have been too harsh on ME2 couse,i played it right after finishing ME,and only thing i tought was:"Thats it?Its not what i started playing" and yeah, game play is better until Leveling up.That Killed it for me.And ME2 is just a filler, shity sidestory till ME3 comes. As for the character development, man i got more atached to Jenkins than the rest of the NS-2 crew put together(not counting ME characters).
@watchinginaz Bigger tits arent character development.Just couse something is bigger that doesent make it better(size of content,i mean).I can sence alot of experimenting in ME2 and there is plenty stuff that need fixing. Like i wrote, I just like ME much better, its the kind of game where even at first irritating parts(MAKO,gay colored equipment) and not-particulary-working parts(equipment schreen) become the most charming parts of the game.
@watchinginaz Fuck no ME1 was waay better. Scenario was perfect. I liked more the RPG approach but in ME2 it was good too. And where was the fucking MAKO!? ME2 was good trough but those recruiting crew members and AFTER loyalty missions were boring really boring (coming from an huge fan) and the final part (after the relay) was Fucking great but god damn too short!!. u writed me2 more weapon option!? wtf have u played the first one? The only better thing in me2 was the cover system and graphics
@watchinginaz Bullshit . Me1 is better in every area except combat and DLC . And me2's DLC's aren't all that theres just more of them , most are overpriced and short . Me1 DID have a better story , better soundtrack , better level up and rpg elements , more epic moments .
Me2 did had like 5 side quests . I'd rather have the ton that were in me1 and the exploration .Me2 did not have better character development your full of shit if anything me1 did aswell .Me2 had very few weapons r u on crack?
@jtgtjtgt No, but you must be. How did ME 1 have more weapons? ME 1 had like 3 models of assault rifle that only varied in color from time to time. ME 2 had the avenger, vindicator, revenant, mattock, and a couple of others available for the assault rifle. Each with it's own unique look and feel. Not to mention ME 2 also had SMGs and heavy weapons neither of which was in ME 1. The weapons actualy felt distinct and unique from each other.
@watchinginaz The ONE thing you said i agree with is in me2 each weapon felt different . But in me2 there were less weapons , less upgrades , and there were not that many guns in me2 .
@watchinginaz Mass effect 1 had a better leveling system, weapons customization, and armor customization. However, I like the presentation in Mass Effect 2 a lot better. I prefer 2 over-all because of the better combat but there are several things that ME1 did better. Also weapon and armor customization is coming to ME3 so i bet 3 will be the best as it seems bioware has listened to fan feedback.
@watchinginaz Mass effect 1 has way better story, way better character system, way better skill tree (mass effect 2 barely has skill trees), better inverntory system
Mass effect is just a better RPG, not a water down corridor shooter
If you are real Bioware fan since BG or Neverwinter Nights, you will like ME1 over ME2 for sure, otherwise you are just a Gears or Call of duty/Halo fa... Not real RPG/Mass effect/Bioware fan
@lordzilu1584 Maybe if you didn't get so hungup over genre you would see that ME 2 was just a better game period. Mass Effect has always been a hybrid of shooter and rpg. And don't give me this "real rpg fan" nonsense either. It just makes you look like an RPG elitist with his head stuck up his ass. I have been playing bioware games since KOTOR so maybe not as long as you but does that really matter? So stop throwing out labels and acting so damn snobbish.
But many ppl have been playing it on pc where there was no stability fps issues and we could move our squad separately, plus inventory was awsome and easy to handle on pc.
In ME2 it lacked the excitement of discovery, storytelling and soundtrack, soundtrack was very bad compared to the first. Plus your HUD is awful in motion and thermal clips really pissed me off. And me2 is dummed down, why? But still they are both equally good. Agree on the dlc though.
@Squadwin Ok first of all I never even brought up the performance issues ME 1 had as I consider them minor issues especialy when I install the game on my xbox. And soundtrack seriously? Ok I loved ME 1's soundtrack but what was wrong with ME 2's? I think both games had excellent soundracks. As far as thermal clips go they forced the player to think more tacticly as you didn't just have infinate ammo to spray around. I liked the fact that I was forced to be more careful about how I used guns
@watchinginaz I'll say it again, i was on the pc so we had almost no perf.issues.You are right about the thermal clips. And yes ME1 had a 10 times better soundtrack. There are no songs like'virmire ride or spectre introduction in me2. There's only song that was worth it was illusive man.
But that's minor, me2 got many things right, the only downside was no mako, maps(maps were awful) and exploring planets and instead we had probes *sigh. Theyll fix that in me2 but they are qually good games.
alot of you guys hated mass effect 2 just because you played mass effect 1 first, i played mass effect 2 first and i honestly think it is alot better, mako was annoying to use, inventory was a huge mess, less squad members, its alot shorter, easier to get lost, alot of the armor looked stupid, ill admit the story was SLIGHTLY better but that is all i can think of, mass effect 1 is one of my favorite games of all time but it has many flaws, mass effect 2 is perfect imo
@TheKittyfritters I like the first game better BECAUSE of the story, along with a few other minor things. There's no need to try and hide it, the story in ME1 was WAY better, doesn't mean ME2 was bad, just that I was let down by it. Pretty much everything in the first game was story-influenced, whereas only a few part in 2 were. I'll admit I thought customizing your weapons was stupid, but at least it provided me with money given I could sell everything. The lack of times in 2 disappointed me 2.
Just me that misses XP per kill in ME2 ? ...
luftman 4 days ago
I think in the upcoming ME3 the should up the amount of weapons, but not so much as ME1 had just because that got to the point of tedious with the extremely cluttered inventory.

@00loneX
and how does reducing the quantity help? and playing ME2, i never even bother to do any customization, or doing any weapon swap. Using only 1-2 guns (Heavy weapon due to limited ammo) for the entire game. Players cant even customize companions equipment.
have it your way. I m just disappointed at how bioware handled their future titles, ME1 will be my last game from Bioware.
y3ivan 6 days ago
@y3ivan you can change companions equipment. And bye the way amma restocks really easily.

@00loneX
I cant even be sure what right as genres started crossbreed with each other.
i believe there are multiple types of subgenres of RPGs. Theres is the storyline RPG (which is usually a point and click games) and theres the traditional RPG which most gamers are familiar with.
But as an old timer bioware RPG gamer, Bioware has begun abandoning its fundamentals on what an RPG supposed to be.
y3ivan 6 days ago
@y3ivan Oh boo fucking hoo, you must be one of those people that still belive that ME1 was an exceptional game because of the "RPG elements", when in reality it great because of it's characters, story, storytelling and the fantastic universe built around it, ME2 was no different in that aprouch (even better imho).

lucaschallenger 1 week ago 2
@lucaschallenger But apparently, the RPG elitists like the gun recolors. OOOH, A GUN THAT IS SHAPED THE SAME BUT IS BLACK INSTEAD OF BLUE, SHOOTS THE SAME, BUT IS .1% MORE POWERFUL!!! Tedious and unnecessary. It was a chore to use that inventory.
00loneX 1 week ago
@00loneX THANK YOU. A lot of what you are saying I totally agree with. Yeah Mass Effect went a little crazy with the removal of RPG elements, but at least they got rid of all of the unnecessary PAINS that ME1 was full of. I still think ME2 is definitely an overall better game and a worth sequel, and ME3 looks to include a lot more of the RPG elements that were missing.
also "Oh look! Armor thats slightly better than the set I have on! Wait...its a leopard print pink wet suit? DAMMIT."
acidrain92 1 week ago
@lucaschallenger
you call those upgrades?
its not even close to saints Row 3 upgrade system and that game isnt an rpg. Even COD:MW had more upgrade/mod function than ME2.
y3ivan 1 week ago
@y3ivan Which proves that an inventory/upgrade system does not make or break an RPG.
00loneX 6 days ago
@00loneX
I prioritize gameplay more than story, after all im paying $60 for a game not a movie
y3ivan 6 days ago
@y3ivan Umm. When I played ME1, the so called "upgrades" to weapons and armor were so marginal and meaningless that I literally did not notice a difference. I'm all for traditional RPG stats and management, but only if it's done well; ME1 did not do it well. Every assault rifle (as well as all other gun classes) fired at the same rate, sounded the same, and the only noticeable difference I saw when upgrading was when I got specter gear.
00loneX 6 days ago
00loneX 6 days ago
@00loneX
so you wanted ME 2 to be a shooter? like i said in my last comment ME series should not be a shooter.
isnt RPG supposed to be complicated like stats/inventory? I do agree Bioware need to touchup on the GUI... But NO they remove it completely!.
y3ivan 6 days ago
@y3ivan It's not a shooter, its still a RPG/TPS hybrid. Remember my first comment to you? You yourself proved that stats/inventory/upgrade does not make a game an RPG. ME2 still had it, it was just streamlined. You could still upgrade your powers and weapons, just on the ship. What makes a RPG is actual role playing, which ME1 AND 2 had. Character creation and customization, progression, decision making. It was all there in both games, so stop with the shooter crap, because it's not true
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan And no, complicated interfaces and inventories do not make a ROLE PLAYING GAME. Actual role playing does, stats and inventory are just elements to create a role playing experience but are not required to do so. Did you know that Mass Effect 1 was originally an Xbox360 exclusive until EA bought Bioware?
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan I said I don't mind Stats and inventory. I DO mind them if they become a chore to use.
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan ME2 vastly improved the mechanics of the gameplay. "But oh no! Combat doesn't suck, so it is a dumbed down shooter!" sputter the annoying fanboys. Yes, it would have been better to improve the mechanics, but getting rid of the useless crap was in no way a bad thing. If you played the ME3 co-op, there are more weapons, upgrades and the like. But instead of carrying a bunch of obsolete junk, the game auto upgrades the guns. "gun I" to "gun IV" is made seamless.
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan The upgrades are still marginal, but since there is no tedious task to convert the obsolete models, it's no longer a player issue. Also with stat powers, I'd much rather have less upgrades if each one actually did something noticeable rather than wait 6 levels of constantly upgrading a deep skill tree to notice differences. ME3 expands the wasted potential of ME2, where each upgrade drastically improves stats, and I actually have to think when assigning points.
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan So the argument that ME1 had better gameplay is just flat out untrue, because the shooter aspects were C-grade at best. And its annoying tedious inventory and meaningless stats did nothing but impede my enjoyment of the game. I don't care if a game has RPG mechanics or not. And I don't care if a RPG developer decided to try their hand at a RPG/TPS. It's such a shame that you can't do the same, because you would enjoy so many more games.
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan Also, I was able to beat insanity, with no upgrades and with starter weapons. Enemies were still retarded, they just had a crap ton of health and shields which isn't hard.
00loneX 6 days ago
@00loneX
i meant better gameplay mechanics does not mean that you prove it by beating it at insanity just by slowly spamming your weapons at the dumb AI (bioware isnt particularly good in AI programming anyway).
My point of gameplay was depth of the system. More talent and weapon variety and each character is specialized with a set of weapons.
However ME1 talent system needed to expand further
y3ivan 6 days ago
@y3ivan Except there was no variety, it was all an illusion. Every gun shot the same, they all looked the same just with different colors. And the actual differences in power were completely marginal. Same with the armor. If you look at ME3, there are just the same amount of variety in weapons as ME1, right down to the gun levels I-X. Except it auto upgrades. Say for example you have the Katana I shotgun. When you get the Katana II, the old gun will be replaced so there is no more
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan faffing about with useless junk in the inventory. Also the weapon variety in ME3 is vastly better. Each gun has it's own unique properties, shape, design, fire rate, damage, even weight. Weapon mods make a return and they also follow the auto upgrade system with the guns, and I love it. Mixes the want for customization and ease of use. So I can safely say it has been expanded.
00loneX 6 days ago
@00loneX
@00loneX
ME have 18 production types of AR with different dmg/accuracy/overheat/vs bonus.(NOT the same as upgraded)
ME2 have 1 General purpose(GP) AR M8
masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Assault_Rifles
y3ivan 6 days ago
00loneX 6 days ago
@y3ivan Also, ME2 had 4 ARs. M8 Avenger, Vindicator, Geth Pulse Rifle, and the Mattok Heavy Rifle. At least each of them looked differently and acted differently rather than be copy paste recolors with allegedly better stats.
00loneX 6 days ago
@00loneX
Some of system has return to ME3 but still not as good as the first ME, I could say about half been implemented and no new gameplay innovation. Except of the execution move spinoff from gears of war.
y3ivan 6 days ago

@XManimal The problem is I felt Mass effect 3 will be worse than both Mass effect 2 and Mass effect 1
From the demo it's terrible.. Bioware tries to make Mass effect 3 as a pure third-person shooter, but they are like at least one generation behind Epic games or Naughty dog
lordzilu1584 1 week ago
@lordzilu1584 Dude, it's a fucking demo. You try fitting in Mass Effect conversations as well as the gameplay into the 2GB demo limit. And until Marcus Fenix can turn himself into biotic energy, charge across the battle field and make cover in a cover-based shooter redundant, calling it Gears of War in space is grounds for trolling.
00loneX 1 week ago
@XManimal Actually. It was never really unlimited. If any of those tards actually took an interest in Mass Effect lore. A small metal block is inside every gun. The gun chips off particles to use as bullets, offering millions of possible shots. The Thermal clips refereed to ammo is a way to prevent overheating. They absorb the heat generated by the gun allowing for faster intervals between shots. Thermal clips are also universal. They do not actually add ammo.

In ME2 I found myself constantly bringing it up during fights to plan my squads attacks.

ME1 > ME2
that's just sad

I totally agree.ME2 was a hybrid not a pure RPG.They wanted to sell more copies,so they removed alot of RPG elements for the action gameplay. Its all about the money these days and not about making a good game.Look at game franchises like call of duty or need for speed.Thats how you kill a brand.
Heimdall1999 1 month ago
@watchinginaz Better character development?Dont make me laugh. They had almost no RPG elements in ME2.It felt like a shooter with multiple choice dialogues. They had less weapons and armors in ME2,stupid mining minigame and all you basicly did,was to find/recruit all the sidekicks.Thats the story, how lame.I really enjoyed playing it but the story was aweful, the boss was way to easy and looked retarded(giant terminator).ME1 endings felt really epic.Like you acomplished something and saved the day.
Heimdall1999 1 month ago 2
@Heimdall1999 No RPG elements? That is a very ignorant comment, there is a research terminal that allows Shepard to learn up to 7 different skills depending on his class and you can choose if you want to do more damage to a group or one solo target at a time, or you prefer to have more armor and do more damage, and it has weapon, skill and armor improvements for the wole squad, did you even bother using the research terminal or just ignored it and rushed through the game?
fan977 3 weeks ago
@fan977 Me2 has very few rpg elements thats right. Me2 got rid of the micromanaging , weapons , upgrading , and overhauled the level up and inventory system . Notice they are coming back in me3 .
jtgtjtgt 2 weeks ago
@jtgtjtgt My point is the weapons are very few in number compared to ME 1 but they are still there and they are all far more varied than any weapon in ME 1 and Weapon and Armor upgrades are there on the research terminals, sadly they got rid of mods but they still have incinerary ammo, warp and disruptor ammo. Not being able to customize your mates armor and the lack of upgrades on them is a let down though.
fan977 2 weeks ago
@Heimdall1999 And ofcourse if you don't connect the story of ME 2 to ME 1 or even try to get into the background of things you will just view the story the way you see, ME 2 was a good advancement from ME 1 to ME 3, it did give you an idea what became of the Protheans and what were the Reapers planning by wiping out races, it answered some plotholes from ME 1 and the story is terrible?
fan977 3 weeks ago
@fan977 Me2 story IS terrible in comparison
jtgtjtgt 2 weeks ago
@jtgtjtgt Why do you have to compare the stories? You have to connect them, if you connect ME1's plot and events to ME2 and get into the background of things, you will see the story is actually very good, just not as good as ME 1. But ME2 had to carry forward the story to the final game and it accomplished that task and it also cleared up what happened to the Protheans (Reapers brainwashed them and turned them into their puppets) and why exactly were Reapers wiping races out.
fan977 2 weeks ago
@Heimdall1999 The characters, their developments & romance plots are carried out better in ME 2, Jack, Mordin, Zaeed, Thane & Samara all had interesting backgrounds & their own loyalty missions that had great backstory & advancement. How many characters can you say that about in ME 1? In ME 1 you had Ashley and kaiden some of the most boring and generic characters you will see in a Sci-Fi game, and Garrus was not special he feels waay more badass in ME 2.
fan977 3 weeks ago
@Heimdall1999 Lastly you are pointing out your opinion about ME 2 like it is a fact and forcing other people to accept them. There are things ME 1 does better than ME 2 (Story, More exploration, more equipment, more rpg elements) and vice versa (characters, character development, better equipment, better side quests, larger galaxy map). Sorry but you sound like one of those people who jumped on the Bioware hate wagon ever since EA took over just because it is just a cool thing to do.

GradGamer 1 month ago 2
Whoever wrote this obviously wasn't following the community's actual comments.
Fans didn't dislike the Mako itself--they hated the god-awful physics and uncharted worlds (90 degree mountain ranges) that came with it. Same thing with the inventory--fans hated the interface and how cluttered it became, but not the concept. Why completely remove these things? Now we've got the Hammerhead, which can't take three pistol shots before blowing up in flames and only two or three versions of each weapon.
KayFirefly77 1 month ago
@KayFirefly77 thats true but mass effect 3 is going to combine the two into a glorious mixture, they are bringing back the gun customization in a much more advanced but still simple way and they are putting much more customization into the powers, mass effect 3 is going to be what you make it so if you want an rpg like mass effect then play the role playing mode, if you want it to be a shooter instead play the action mode, and if you just want the story just play the story mode

Also, they should bring back planet exploration. Though have a better Mako.

Frontboarder101 1 month ago
Everyone saying they liked the elevators in ME1, BULLSHIT. You're just trying to pull anything out of your ass to "prove" ME1 was better. Wake up and smell the coffee, ME2 is far superior...

@HunterJs2 Those people are bitten with the nostalgia bug. I still play ME 1 to this day but ME 2 is better in almost every signficant way. ME 1 might do a few little things better but ME 2 is just a better overall package. I guess some people let nostalgia cloud their judgement.
watchinginaz 1 month ago
@watchinginaz How true.
IrianZamJaya 1 month ago
@watchinginaz Agreed. I call it "Nosalgia Syndrome", just like you. I prefer ME2. It just feels better for me.
WarHammer3451 1 month ago
@watchinginaz Ok, i just finished trough ME1, so no nostalgia for me ,and it was awesome, and then i started playing ME2, and all i got was disapointment, just better graphics and that is it. It cant be compared to ME1, its just a better overall package..
kojbo 1 month ago
@kojbo How is ME 1 a better package? ME 2 has better gameplay, more content, better DLC support, more distinction between classes, better character development, sidequests that are not repetitive, more weapon options, etc... The only argument you make for ME 1 is the story (which is subjective) and since ME 2 is the middle part of the trilogy the middle part of any trilogy is always the hardest part to write.
So tell me how is ME 1 better? I still love ME 1 but ME 2 is just better period
watchinginaz 1 month ago 22
@watchinginaz
1. ME2 has better gameplay.
LoryuoRaioneru 1 month ago
@LoryuoRaioneru ME over ME2 anyday, ME3 looks shitty. :/
anagron63 1 month ago
@watchinginaz I should just copy paste LoryuoRaioneru responce.I might have been too harsh on ME2 couse,i played it right after finishing ME,and only thing i tought was:"Thats it?Its not what i started playing" and yeah, game play is better until Leveling up.That Killed it for me.And ME2 is just a filler, shity sidestory till ME3 comes. As for the character development, man i got more atached to Jenkins than the rest of the NS-2 crew put together(not counting ME characters).
kojbo 1 month ago
@watchinginaz Bigger tits arent character development.Just couse something is bigger that doesent make it better(size of content,i mean).I can sence alot of experimenting in ME2 and there is plenty stuff that need fixing. Like i wrote, I just like ME much better, its the kind of game where even at first irritating parts(MAKO,gay colored equipment) and not-particulary-working parts(equipment schreen) become the most charming parts of the game.
kojbo 1 month ago
@watchinginaz Fuck no ME1 was waay better. Scenario was perfect. I liked more the RPG approach but in ME2 it was good too. And where was the fucking MAKO!? ME2 was good trough but those recruiting crew members and AFTER loyalty missions were boring really boring (coming from an huge fan) and the final part (after the relay) was Fucking great but god damn too short!!. u writed me2 more weapon option!? wtf have u played the first one? The only better thing in me2 was the cover system and graphics
666TheMetalmaniac666 4 weeks ago
@666TheMetalmaniac666 YES me1 was better
jtgtjtgt 2 weeks ago
@watchinginaz Bullshit . Me1 is better in every area except combat and DLC . And me2's DLC's aren't all that theres just more of them , most are overpriced and short . Me1 DID have a better story , better soundtrack , better level up and rpg elements , more epic moments .
Me2 did had like 5 side quests . I'd rather have the ton that were in me1 and the exploration .Me2 did not have better character development your full of shit if anything me1 did aswell .Me2 had very few weapons r u on crack?
jtgtjtgt 2 weeks ago
@jtgtjtgt No, but you must be. How did ME 1 have more weapons? ME 1 had like 3 models of assault rifle that only varied in color from time to time. ME 2 had the avenger, vindicator, revenant, mattock, and a couple of others available for the assault rifle. Each with it's own unique look and feel. Not to mention ME 2 also had SMGs and heavy weapons neither of which was in ME 1. The weapons actualy felt distinct and unique from each other.
watchinginaz 2 weeks ago
@watchinginaz The ONE thing you said i agree with is in me2 each weapon felt different . But in me2 there were less weapons , less upgrades , and there were not that many guns in me2 .
jtgtjtgt 2 weeks ago
@watchinginaz Mass effect 1 had a better leveling system, weapons customization, and armor customization. However, I like the presentation in Mass Effect 2 a lot better. I prefer 2 over-all because of the better combat but there are several things that ME1 did better. Also weapon and armor customization is coming to ME3 so i bet 3 will be the best as it seems bioware has listened to fan feedback.
sunset261 2 weeks ago
@sunset261 I agree that ME 3 will probably be the best of both worlds.
watchinginaz 2 weeks ago
@watchinginaz Mass effect 1 has way better story, way better character system, way better skill tree (mass effect 2 barely has skill trees), better inverntory system
Mass effect is just a better RPG, not a water down corridor shooter
If you are real Bioware fan since BG or Neverwinter Nights, you will like ME1 over ME2 for sure, otherwise you are just a Gears or Call of duty/Halo fa... Not real RPG/Mass effect/Bioware fan
lordzilu1584 2 weeks ago
@lordzilu1584 Maybe if you didn't get so hungup over genre you would see that ME 2 was just a better game period. Mass Effect has always been a hybrid of shooter and rpg. And don't give me this "real rpg fan" nonsense either. It just makes you look like an RPG elitist with his head stuck up his ass. I have been playing bioware games since KOTOR so maybe not as long as you but does that really matter? So stop throwing out labels and acting so damn snobbish.
watchinginaz 2 weeks ago
@watchinginaz .
Squadwin 2 weeks ago
@Squadwin Ok first of all I never even brought up the performance issues ME 1 had as I consider them minor issues especialy when I install the game on my xbox. And soundtrack seriously? Ok I loved ME 1's soundtrack but what was wrong with ME 2's? I think both games had excellent soundracks. As far as thermal clips go they forced the player to think more tacticly as you didn't just have infinate ammo to spray around. I liked the fact that I was forced to be more careful about how I used guns
watchinginaz 2 weeks ago
@watchinginaz I'll say it again, i was on the pc so we had almost no perf.issues.You are right about the thermal clips. And yes ME1 had a 10 times better soundtrack. There are no songs like'virmire ride or spectre introduction in me2. There's only song that was worth it was illusive man.
But that's minor, me2 got many things right, the only downside was no mako, maps(maps were awful) and exploring planets and instead we had probes *sigh. Theyll fix that in me2 but they are qually good games.
Squadwin 2 weeks ago
@Squadwin He is console guy, they like easier, water down sequel, what can I say
They like Mass effect 2 because it's pretty and easier to play, except that game is pretty shallow compare to Mass effect 1

@lordzilu1584 I know right? ME1 had so much depth in the story and literally every scene, its the game that offered some top sci-fi scenes.
Although ME2 has better dialogue depth you lose the rpg feeling.
From what i saw though ME3 is perfect again. So all good :)

I love them both though, I think Mass Effect 2 is better. But Mass Effect 1 had more "OH SHIT " Story moments like meeting sovereign then vigil.
theorangeshirts 1 month ago
alot of you guys hated mass effect 2 just because you played mass effect 1 first, i played mass effect 2 first and i honestly think it is alot better, mako was annoying to use, inventory was a huge mess, less squad members, its alot shorter, easier to get lost, alot of the armor looked stupid, ill admit the story was SLIGHTLY better but that is all i can think of, mass effect 1 is one of my favorite games of all time but it has many flaws, mass effect 2 is perfect imo
TheKittyfritters 1 month ago
@TheKittyfritters I like the first game better BECAUSE of the story, along with a few other minor things. There's no need to try and hide it, the story in ME1 was WAY better, doesn't mean ME2 was bad, just that I was let down by it. Pretty much everything in the first game was story-influenced, whereas only a few part in 2 were. I'll admit I thought customizing your weapons was stupid, but at least it provided me with money given I could sell everything. The lack of times in 2 disappointed me 2.
GradGamer 1 month ago
That;s why I didn't really like Mass Effect 2, it was less RPG and more 1st person shooter.
