My brother is getting ready to Re-deploy to Afganistan for his 6th tour, the area he is going to the last unit didn't make it out alive, and when he came by to see my and my son( we did a late 13 bday for my son so my brother could be there with us) he asked to go out for a drink after- and this song went thru my head instantly.. We laid my oldest sons Godfather to rest last weekend....someone had posted a video of him singing this song on his memorial page...then they played it at the funeral and we all lost it....he was singing it to his best friend because he left behind a son.....Rest in Eternal Peace Doug!

Watched the video to see a guy I currently work with. The leading guy in the video (David Dell) currently works with me at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS.
I had to have this conversation with my daughter before she deployed to Iraq 2008 and now she is in Afghanistan. I have her three sons 16, 14 and 9 years old, while she is gone for over a year.( single mom) I have always prided myself that we could say anything to each other. But this was conversation so hard! I can see where it might have special meaning to someone going into a war zone, but really any one of us at any time could be where the singer of this song is. Hey captainsmith1 you're right...to be honest it has NOTHING to do with the Marines or the military...it has nothing to do going into a combat zone....he says "The doctor is going in the 25th." To me...this says something about cancer...or some sort of disease or condition that requires serious surgery....and THAT is what is talking about...not waking up from surgery...

Regret is the worst thing you can ever live with and is something no1 deserves to have to live with for any reason. My friend told me that if something should happen to him when we went to iraq to look after his little girl making me the Godfather and now here I am looking after his little girl. I miss him so much we were like brothers grew up since kindergarden. I hope I can do as good a job as he did with his daughter. 82nd airborne hooah.

this is exactly the type of sittuation I am faced with every day. My husband was diagnosed with the same heart condition that his father died from. There is no cure and a high rate of sudden death that comes with it. We have 3 children and I pray everyday that my husband does not leave us for a long long time...

this is a deeply felt, very emotional, very human song that could apply to us at any time. The guy in the song just happens to have been a marine. But it shouldn't always be about that. I can see where it might have special meaning to someone going into a war zone, but really any one of us at any time could be where the singer of this song is. I'm not against military, but I'm not sure this is an exclusively military song. It should mean the same to everyone, everywhere.

Hey captainsmith1 you're right...to be honest it has NOTHING to do with the Marines or the military...it has nothing to do going into a combat zone....he says "The doctor is going in the 25th." To me...this says something about cancer...or some sort of disease or condition that requires serious surgery....and THAT is what is talking about...not waking up from surgery...

Im in the army to, im a health care specalist...i look up to all the men and women in the military..my father was in the military and my brother is currently and he gets deployed in November...All of our men and women in uniform need to be remembered and prayed for everyday...they are protecting us..next time you see a soldier..thank him or her for their service in keeping us a free nation.

This song always makes me cry.. My cousin died a 2 monthes ago and she had a 1 month old baby girl. So i hope when she gets older ill be able to go to movies, restaurants, etc.

It is called the politics of music. Artists get kickbacks for everytime their song plays as well as the radio stations. How do you think radio stations can give away cash and prizes. The more they play of a certain artist and promote a certain artist, the more $k$a$c$h$i$n$g. My next door neighbor worked with Dave Pratt on Phoenix Radio for 10 yrs before he was released from his contract. This is first hand information. I could not believe it.

He wrote down his new number on a GNC receipt and told me to call him the next week. He told me he was proud of me. I smiled and walked away, but I didn't tell him I loved him.
