Why is Hawking repeating that Creation Myth when he doe not believe it. He is only making fun and sport of other people. He should be ashamed. He should ask people who really do believe in the Creation to explain it, and not to use it for comedy. He should tell us what he really believes accounts for the world ,so we can laugh at him. Because no one really knows what accounts for the world, but we all have Intelligent Mind capable of creating worlds in ourselves and that is where to start.

His argument is actually ironic. See he argues that phi (the wave-function of the universe) can explain everything and so we don't need a God to do so. However he forgets that the wave-function of the universe is a Mind.

The catholic church IS kinder and gentler today than they have been in the past. However they still want to censor things and to stop people from learning certain things. Although covering up is not always the case. The church faces many dilemmas in all areas of faith. we all are aware that good and evil choices exist. In the area of repentance and forgiveness with punishment from God, probable reasoning for cover-ups are the same reasoning as early "shuffling" paroles for murders and rapists in the justice system. A chance for rehabilitation which is a 50-50 proposition.
