Just wanted to say thanks a lot for uploading this, I play the drums and 1:18's helped me figure out the proper placement of the triplets played on the bass drum pedals.
how do you get meshuggah songs or any other songs you want onto your xbox 360 guitar hero 3 game? i really wanna play some meshuggah. thanks. does anyone know a link that explains how you can download songs like this one to your guitar hero game? thanks.
No - you're half right, he keeps a solid 4/4 on the hi-hat, but the bass drums follow the guitar in THEIR time signatures, which is why Tomas Haake = God.
And hey DJCESP, actually this is Marten Hagstrom's Composition, and actually this album was composed 50% by Marten, 40% by Fredrik Thordendal and 10% by Tomas Haake, Meshuggah also is Jens Kidman on Vocals and Dick Lovgren on Bass
i think its a rotation of 4/4 x3 then 5/4, then back to 4/4. meshuggah really only use 4/4 actually, you can map out the beat listening to the cymbals.
Those were terrible examples considering everybody has the chance to learn how to play real guitar that has purchased guitar hero and everyone has the chance to have sex. Your examples on the other hand are exagerated and poorly thought out. Kids should go outside and actually skate and kids on WoW really need to find a new hobby, or use their creative minds to something more productive.
I agree the examples weren't the best, but do you know how much does it cost to get educated in a conservatory for playing an instrument? Around 600€ a year here. Everyone doesn't get sex how much he wanted it. Then there are parents, who won't let you skate. I actually started skating as a kid, but i stopped it later, due to lack of interest and even more due to my parents worries.
educated in a conservatory? i'm assuming that is some sort of school? I just taught myself how to play, there are so many resources that it really isn't that hard
Conservatory is a place, not related to school in any other way, than there are experienced instrument players to teach other people to play whatever instrument they want.
really? Someone gave this guy a -1? What has he done wwrong? GH is nothing like real music. I've tried to sing and play at the same time, let alone talk; it's really hard! But I can talk just fine when I'm playing this game.
stop telling people to have lives. let them dow hat they want, dont waste your time trying to tell people to omg go outside, when they dont care.
honestly, without these people you wouldnt be on a damn comp right now watching youtube.
without those people you wouldnt have light bulbs, science, math, any type of electronics, cool ass games, and other weird gadgets that are fun as hell to do. to have a lfie you dont have to be outside 24/7. i play basketball 3 hours a day and still play vg's.
and i play real drums, and real guitar. but still play rock band and guitar hero.
other people prefer just playing the video game type. i admit being able to play obzen is tight as fuck, or bleed, video game or not its awesome. some people get more of an accomplishment video game wise.
This has been really helpful in visually defining the rhythmns - it's good on the CD but once you see the groups of beats it's much easter to understand to play along. Thanks very much!
Well just make it more melodic then... I do wish Meshuggah would be more melodically progressive during their multipattern sections. Im not complainin though they are still awesome, and I guess it wouldn't be them if they did that, but that is exactly why other bands could.
yeah, they play 8 stringers tuned to F, so they just tune the bass up a note to F and play in unison, though, the intro is played in Bb, and there the bass is one octave below
Im guessing nearly an octave below the normal E for guitar right? It would make sense they have the bass tuned further down also... Thats really badass though. The only thing I know typically close is Devin Townsend's 7 string going to low G.
yea, their guitars are tuned down to F (in most songs, some are in E), as in one step above E, and the bass is down to Bb, so when the guitars play their 7th string, the bass play Bb below that, and when they play the mighty 8th string, the bass play in unison, that's why the intro to this song sounds heavier, because it's in Bb, so the bass is lower. took me some time to figure out...
heh, thanks. most people don't know to shut up when they don't know shit. btw, I notice I wrote "one step above E", but F is just a half step above... sorry about that :P
also, I definitely don't know "everything" about music, I just know to much geeky stuff about meshuggah :D lol
Well if you are going to know too much geeky stuff about a band, I can 100% guarantee you that there's no greater band to be geeky about than Meshuggah. To be geeky about them is not to be geeky...but to be simply appreciative. And they deserve the world full of appreciation. MORE THAN SOULJA BOY TELLEM.
Actually if you listen, the notes are held up to the next note, although they are palm muted, there is a huge difference between a true staccato note and a palm muted note that's held.
^ This. I've seen many a song where you're required to bend a palm muted note, and if I have the definition of staccato right, then I would venture to say that you cannot bend a note played staccato... but then again, I could be wrong. :P
this game can be a good thing, my 9 year old son(who comes from a musicians background generations old) has taken up the game.. it's building co-ordination, muscle reflex, and a good sense for music in general.. it's pretty sweet when your kid want to talk about slash, tom morello, black sabbath, and deep purple..and meshuggah!!
from a guitar player of 30 years... fuck-off guitar players!! let em' play!!
Now if only the developers would put in Hanon Exercises... I play guitar and I also enjoy playing guitar hero, although I suck at guitar hero and I'm proficient at guitar. And I agree that the music snobs (although I kinda am one) should stop bashing guitar hero, it's doing a lot of people good by at least getting them into music. yeah you could do it on a 7 string, but still it's a better achievement to actually learn the song on an instrument, than on a joystick (let's face it - it's a joystick)
all my friends say to me, are you good on guitar hero? ( I'm a guitarist by the way) and I say well no because it's only similar to a real guitar in a few ways and the playing is so different
beleive me, some people switch to a real guitar because of the sheer fun of playing guitar hero. Their like "hey if I can do well in this I can do well in a real guitar" They do well because they are well versed in music understanding from the game..Like Meshuggah's Obzen....aaaaaarghhh
uuhhm, yes you do need an 8 string, or at least a baritone guitar, if you would just tune down a 26.5" scale 7 (or worse, a 25.5" scale 6 string) to play this song it would sound crap compared to a 30" 8 (trust me, I've tried)
Eh, I'd think as long as it was just to learn, or show people you could do it on a schecter loomis or c7 hellraiser with the 26.5 scales. But yea, the tension gets to the point where there's no bounce, similarly if you with the try to do Thomas Hakke stuff on drums with no kick back on the feet. Good luck on bleed with no bounce lol.
yea like I said, I've tuned down my schecter v7 to F with 0.70 as the thickest string, and it just doesn't sound good at all. but sure, you can learn and play the song alright.
unflinching eyes, joyous and gleaming. intense in their need to watch things die - a new belief-system. salvation found in vomit and blood, where deprivation, lies, corruption, war, and pain is god. meshuggah fuckin owns. nice cover here man

Which is exactly what I did; I played in symphonic band for years before playing GH2.
GH2 gave me that extra push I had been needing for all those years to pick up the real thing(much different).

uuhhm, yes you do need an 8 string, or at least a baritone guitar, if you would just tune down a 26.5" scale 7 (or worse, a 25.5" scale 6 string) to play this song it would sound crap compared to a 30" 8 (trust me, I've tried)
