  • Thanks.......you are a good teacher....

  • And drop tuning

  • What would the scale be in a 7 string guitar

  • @carlosisafuckingod

    google is your friend

  • @carlosisafuckingod you play exactly the same thing on the 7th string as on the 2nd string

  • You forgot Satriani!

  • off topic question: im a bit weak on theory, help me out please. lets say i do a sweep arpeggio in C maor, & i wanna go farther than that with another sweep. what do i do? do i follow the next note thats in the major or minor scale, ? or do i go to the next note thats within C major chord. sometimes im looking at guitarist do a chord & progress to another one & ask myself "how does he know what chord to play next & still make it sound good? :l"

  • @PikachusCorpse

    this called "superimposing"

you can plau over a Cmajor7 or Emaj a

    Emin, Gmaj, Bmin(b5)

  • @tziras Just what i needed. thanks c:

  • you cant mention this scale without mention the flamencoists that played it b4 electricity!

  • Probably my favourite scale until now...i'm a huge fan of neoclassical , any other specific scales you would recommend for that style? Thanks in advance, and another great lesson by the way!

  • @lucasa88

    Check Harmonic Minor and Aeolian

  • @tziras Ok, thank you!

  • lol this is very very important note :) thanks for the lesson, i just needed to know what dominant meant, and when you said major third i was basically done with the vid. anyways thanks, taught me wut i needed to know :D

  • For instance C major . C D E F G A B. If we start on G the V note of C major and stack 3rds we have G B D F in chord speak 1 3 5 b7. So the G7. That is how Dom chords are derived and also the reason it is called phyrgian dom

  • Thanks for posting. awesome stuff!!! I just wanted to add, the reason this scale is called Dominant is because it is derived from the V mode of its relative Harmonic Minor. Dominant is an old name for the V note of a sacle. Dominant chords are derived from a 7th chord built starting from the V note of a given major scale.

  • Hi tziras

i LOOOOVVEEE the song O.K its my favorite song of you, i also like how the drums have been put togheter, are there tabs of this song, if not can you please tell me in what scale you solo in

    thank you:)

  • @alsem333

    the scale is E Aeolian...

there is no tab avaiable at the moment

  • Hi theodore

The dominant means the 5th note in the scale right, so the 5th note of the A scale( in this case A harmonic minor) would be E, but what can you actually do with the dominant , what can it be used for, lets say for example in the key of C , the dominant would be G, can i then play the C scale over a G dominant chord?

    Thank you

  • @alsem333

you are making it more complicated than it is...

this is just a phrygian scale with a major third

  • @tziras Thnx for the quick reply

Yes i already noticed that , but im still a bit confused on the dominant part thats all

    Thnx again

  • @alsem333

the dominant word means "major third" and "dominant seventh"

  • Thank you ;)

  • Does this scale have anymore positions or is this the only position??

  • @hoanson12

    every scale has more positions

on this video i am demonstrating the first one

  • @tziras Can you make a video showing how to do the rest, or you could just show me where to find the rest. Pls and Thank you, btw best teacher ever

  • @hoanson12

    i will do it soon

  • @tziras Thank you, master:)

  • Are you using Guitar Amp Emulation software?

  • @pickmetofight

    yes..pod farm

  • that's my favourite scale. check my rush yyz solo cover, best solo with this scale i think

  • i really thank u for posting up those licks of the week tehy help so much and learning scales makes more fun with ur backing tracks keep on the good work

  • hey dude u should to do your tutorials in spanish....!!!

  • @3301pepe

    this is not easy...

i speak only Greek and English

  • @tziras my favorite is Phrygian major minor to dorian

  • hello Theodore great lesson!, i was just wondering, is phrygian dominant scale the fifth degree of the harmonic minor scale? thanks

  • @sniper13ad

    yes it is...

  • Common in Hebraic music.

    Good show dude.

  • Common in Hebraic music.

  • I love Phygian dominant, locrian sounds really cool if it's played right also but most people just play dimished triads over it. Combining locrian, phrygian dominant and minor in solos can make you sound like your guitar is screaming from the depths of hell!

  • theodore..how do you come up with your solos...whats your process and what scales do you favor??

  • @MendesOO1O

difficult to answer about the procces..i play what i have on my mind

    favourite scales Dorian, Phrygian Dominant

  • @tziras i see i see thanks for the advise it does help

  • @MendesOO1O there's only one thing to help you come up with music, and that's playing whatever sounds good man. just play what you wanna hear the most.

  • Theodore can you please tell me how you can make a guitar sound as middle-eastern as possible? Apart from using the Phrygian scale.

  • @Raziel236

    try Dorian#4 scale

  • file gamas!fobero ma8hma,euxaristw para polu!

  • Alright, i can do four notes per beat, maybe six, but eight? Why is the hardest one the best sounding?!

  • Lol, how did i not notice that it says the track name there?

    Theodore you are the bomb!

  • wow, what is the name of the song at the end?

  • @Pezzy54321

    Track: O.K,

    Territory 4 CD

  • Is there an affinity of this scale to the harmonic minor scale? I mean if u start the harmonic minor scale on the 5th note you will get the phrygian dominat scale. Or in other words: You can also play the phrygian dominant scale on a minor chord, like Am7 if u start with the forth note of the scale on A. Also the sound is very similar. Is this true tziras?

  • @guitar789

    yes..this is true

  • Great lesson, and really cool scale :)

This video helped a lot, thanks man :D

  • Is this scales also called the Phrygian Major?

  • @Guitarfreak365

    yes....

  • fantastic!

  • wat about all 5 positions?

  • @GuitaristAnton

this video is just and introduction to the scale

i will do a video about the 5 positions later

  • @residentZA

    wrong

  • i'll check it out tomatolord thanks, i think it would be a blast if we could impart a different kind of phrasing and licks on a blues jam but would still sound bluesy. I don't know or haven't heard if its possible that's why i'm really looking forward to hear it.

  • got it Theo thanks

  • Dood this scale is just what ive been looking for! it fits perfect for a solo in a song im writing =DDDDDD thnx for this man!

  • not sure if this licks can be used in a blues that's why i wanna hear it. It's ok if it can't be though

  • @ronusalv

this scale is not suitable for blues

  • how can i use this lick on a blues jam, could you demonstrate please

  • Phrygian dominant on Blues??

    not very usual situation

  • @ronusalv. wow! you sure mate?? hehe

  • @ronusalv

I think Yngwie has a "blues" song using phrygian, but not phrygian dominant

  • Can you upload the guitar rig preset(clean) your used?

    thank you!

  • Man, you're awesome

  • This maj7 note is not right...

    actually you must play Dom7 chord (1 3 5 b7)

    it sounds better....

otherwise just use a normal Maj chord (1 3 5)

  • Paizeis papades kai ola soy ta video einai para poly prosegmena ki epekshghmatika. Congrats. Btw, to yperoxo ayto ki8aroni ti einai? :P

  • Συγχαρητιρια κυριε ζιρα για τη δουλεια σας και μπραβο επισης που αναφερετε τον romeo xωρις να τον επισκιαζετε απ τους υπολοιπους......

  • Do you use a computer program to amplify the sound coming from your guitar through your speakers? If so, what program?

  • on this video is Guitar straight to the sound card with Guitar Rig3. The desktop speakers are average

  • @tziras Alright, thank you very much for your reply.

  • thx a lot sir..

  • Great video. I learn a lot from you.

  • you are the best man. i love your lessons. and i love Greece! gyros is so damn tasty. i think i'm gonna eat some gyros and shred my guitar with the phrygian scale now.

  • geia sou re megale!!!!!!! ti kithara exeis?

  • Its very similar to A minor harmonic scale

  • I spent 7 hours watch all your vids on youtube, awesome! again, when we can expect your original products release in Asia Pacific market?

  • hi.. i have some question.. can u tell me where is the G# of this chord progression..? Em F Am Bm.. coz im confused.. hihi.. thx much theodore.. ur great..

  • I made a mistake

    it is Emajor ..(E G# B)

  • You rule! keep shredding \m/

  • Thanks man you cleared it up for me!!!!

  • can i play this scale over E major? since i have the root major 3 and 5...???

  • Yes....

  • so its the same scale as A harmonic minor?

  • i can take care of you on this one. yes indeed. dominant phyrigian is the same as the harmonic minor scale shifted up a fourth. e.g c dominant phyrigian=f harminic minor. some call it the aladin scale :)

  • It's essentially a mode of harmonic minor, same notes, different starting point.

  • same notes, one could think the same shapes but the root is E, not A. So the song might be in E and not Aminor.

  • Hey Theodore dropping by to say Happy New Year and I have learned som much from your teachings keep up the great work your labours not in vain

  • hey is there anyway you could post the tabs of the entire scale? i couldnt follow the video.

  • check the description of the video (on your right)

the link with the tab is there

  • Hey man. Happy New Year. Thanks for all these fantastic videos. They're incredibly helpful.

  • hey TZ i want to try gypsy jazz, what can you tell me about what i should be practicing and the techniques they use, etc. thanks

  • hi.. how can i use this scale in an Em, C, A, B chord progression..? thx theodore..

  • Thanks for this video man. I've been itching to learn how to play this scale. Can't wait for the next one because I can play most scales, its just applying those scales to song that is difficult.

  • Ive learnt that scale yesterday :P but under the name of "spanish scale"

  • great, dude. the phrygian dominant is one of my favorites.

  • Hey! TZ, what brand is that guitar man?! It's sexy as all hell.

  • Palm Bay Guitars

  • Hello! It´s in our playlist!

  • very good lesson. you're a great teach. just subscribed. i gotta get your cd. shits mad nasty bro.

  • Just curious if you could do a lesson over chord progressions that can be used in Harmonic Minor, since I'm not sure which chords can work over such a scale.

  • so is this the same thing as a Harmonic Minor scale?

just starting from a different note?

  • Theoretically yes...

practically no.....it will no sound very good

  • @Metallicafan13

One could say from a theoretical standpoint that the Phrygian dominant scale is a mode of the harmonic minor.

  • Ones again...very good lesson! I can't wait for the next one!

    Happy New Year!

    Hronia polla!!!!

  • Very good lesson ! ! !

You're a great teacher and an amazing player!

That CD sounds pretty damn cool!

I'm buying it and spreading the word!

    Keep Up The Great Work!

    \m/

  • Another great lesson!!! I was wondering if you could clear something up for me....a couple of your pics I've seen show you as a left handed player, but i have only seen you play right handed in your vids......am i crazy??? lol

    Rock On!

  • I am left handed

All the instructional video are mirrored...

  • Thanks for clearing that up!!

I am thankful that the instruction vids are mirrored...makes it easier for me to follow!

    Keep up the great music!

  • You are a godsend Theodore! You are a really good guitar player and a teacher ! :D You have really helped my picking on scales! So a happy new year to you ! :D

  • Nice lesson again..5*..but I'm eagerly waiting for lessons on your own songs........Happy New Year..

  • I will do it very soon

  • keep up the good work theo!

  • Do you realize how helpful you are!

  • I was just thinking the same thing! Awesome, just awesome stuff.

  • Do you place the very low portion of your palm on the guitar's body as an anchor for picking across strings? I rest the side of my palm on the bridge when picking things that require no special technique or speed, and I think most people tend to do this, except I've seen a lot of left-handed people do what you do. In my opinion the picking hand should always be left alone to do whatever feels natural, but can you explain how you held your pick in the Lick of the Greek lesson in English?

  • isn't that lesson a Greek version of a video that already exists?

  • Yes...i will do this lesson also in English

  • Yes...you are right

the picking hand must be relaxed to play naturally

  • Theodore Ziras, these lessons, if you could call them that, are very much appreciated. I think I speak for everyone when I thank you for taking time do these. I was wondering if you could do a lesson on the variations of the Phyrgian Dominant scale, (this being the Spanish version)... I forget what they are called but I know there are others. I would like to see this in a part 3, as part 2 will likely consist of applying it in soloing, hopefully in both a metal and flamenco context.

  • Good idea..i will do this flamenco thing in Part3 or 4

  • I love Phrygian Dominant.

  • kaly sas xronia kyrie zira!!! eyxaristoumai paraparapara poly gia t mathimata sas!!!

  • This dude is amazing

  • great lesson, but i have one question, you can use this pattern anywhere on the guitar right? not just in this one spot?

sorry if its sort of a dumb question :P i've been playing guitar for almost 2 years but i'm still new to these scales and such

  • yes you can repeat those same exact notes everywhere in the fretboard...

  • Comment removed

  • You can use this pattern in any Root..

  • wat guitar is that?

  • Palm bay i think

  • Palm Bay Guitar

  • kali xronia !

  • happy new year, this year was fun, I hope the next year will be much better

my best wishes for you and your family, see you the next time

  • You are a great teacher man !

    Happy New year !

  • Happy new year, I love your videos! =D

    Keep it up!! =D

  • I wanted to say that you make very good instructional videos and I appreciate you posting them. I was wondering if you had any tips on cross-picking or tremolo picking?

  • Great lesson. I have the Phrygian dominant jam pack from your website, now i am just waiting for part 2, and the solo ideas.
