  • Thanks for this video John, now I can use my Eico! it seems to work fine, I was able to pick up the RF signal on an AM radio but I might as well go ahead and change the filter caps anyway to be safe.

  • @coolbluelights,

    Daniel,

Old filter caps are time bombs waiting to go off. At a minimum, always change them in vintage radios and test equipment before applying power. You might get away with not changing them for a while, but you'll eventually pay for it. New ones are relatively cheap...so pro-up and dump the junk.

    Regards,

    John

  • I bought a couple of his leads.. they are nice!!!

  • @gbowne1,

The leads seem to work fine. Hopefully, they'll last a few years.

Thanks for the visit. I appreciate having you here.

    Regards,

  • Sad story John,

20 years ago my Uncle passed on and he was a radio repair hobbiest. 5 years after he passed my Aunt was moving and asked me if I wanted any of my Uncle's things. He had Variacs, Tube testers, 2 big Zenith tube cases full of new tubes, Soldering sticks etc. I had no idea that I would ever want or have a use for these things, So I put an ad in the paper and tried to give all this to someone for the price of the ad $25. Nobody responded so after 6 months it all went to a landfill.

  • @DrOlds100,

No doubt the thought of that equipment going to the landfill bugs you, but what's done is done. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that same story from others, so you're not alone. Don't sweat it. Fortunately, there's still lots more available.

    Regards,

    John

  • Really enjoy your videos, John.

Looks like you have found a real bargain with

    that generator ! Enjoy !

  • i purchased some of those Switchcraft connectors from antique radio (i think). I wish I had known about the lead guy!

  • @GeoN0JRJ,

    George,

Switchcraft?...I've never heard of Switchcraft. Every day I learn something new in this hobby. I appreciate the education, son. I just did a little Switchcraft net surfing and found all kinds of their thing-a-ma-jigs. Cool.

But speaking of TVs, my friend...where's the TV, George. Gimme a T...Gimme a V...Gimme a old TV.

    Regards,

    John

  • @joernone Switchcraft is fairly popular stuff. They have a site just add .com to their name.

  • @gbowne1,

Thanks. I went to the Switchcraft web site. Interesting place. It never ceases to amaze me how may different sites there are on the internet. In a lifetime a fellow will barely scratch the surface of them all...if that.

    Thanks for dropping in.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hey John, I picked up an EICO model 377 at a radio swap meet last month for $5.00. It's not as fancy as yours, but should be OK for me. It powers on, but I don't have a clue as to how to use it. Getting a frequency counter would be a step in the right direction to see how accurate it is. Thanks for the video. Tom

  • @THOMMGB,

    Tom,

You can pick up a good and fairly inexpensive used frequency counter on ebay. Just don't pay through the nose for one.

I'll be soon be doing an alignment video of the Philco 630B and you'll see how to use an RF signal generator. But there's plenty of other Youtube vids that'll show you the same thing.

    Thanks for watching, my friend.

    Regards,

    John

  • Nice video Joe, like the way you got the XYL to help with the hobby also.

    Jim

  • @k5cxo,

    Jim,

Sometimes ya gotta be sneaky with the XYLs. But I think mine is onto me. :-)

    Thanks for the visit.

    Regards,

    John

  • I have some vintage test gear that I've been debating whether or not to rebuild the cables with a new Switchcraft 2501F connector or convert to BNC. Never thought to look for new builds. Thanks for the tip.

  • @rkruetzfeldt,

To save a little money, I was going to make my own cables, but then decided I'd rather spend my time doing restorations. It's more fun. I'm glad the info helped.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Regards,

    John
