  • to be honest this is just bludegeoning of another human being. it takes pain resistance and thats it. sorry. its effective and brutal but not realistic. gloves are worn. one shot to the hand in defanging the snake ends a fight. period. arnis. escrima. kali. use this as a tool for edged weapons. american martial artists delude things. sorry.

  • That looks like fun!

  • Honestly, I think this is bullshit. What he says at the beginning: No points, no riles, no refs. That makes this just beating your opponent to a bloody pulp. As an Eskrima/Kali/Arnis practitioner, I think this is fairly stupid. But, that's just my two sense. - Storm.

  • @TheVoltaicUnion i agree as it does NOT follow the arts of eskrima kali or arnis. ive watched videos...not on youtube.....of the history of stickfighting. on rare occasions they used a stick to fight when a sword wasnt available. and then they sharpened them. im going to practice with sticks. spar with the hit foam series by century martial arts and eventually work my way up to light sparring with dull and unpointed blades. this is realistic and points and refs will be used.

  • brutal.effective. it is the eptiome of stickfighting. heres the ticket though. its a stick. if someone where to come at me with a stick i would use my jiu jitsu on them. this stickfighting was used by the arts in replacement of a sword and or knife as a safe means to practice. is this brutal and effective? yes. is it realistic? no. gloves are worn. people grapple most of the time. im not against either. modern isnt always better. neither is old. one hit with a stick/sword ends a fight. sorry.

  • @shaynemartialarts You make good point, how ever, few of the fighters are fighting at 100%. Some where around 75 - 80. A well trained stick fighter can KILL you with one strike. Rattan sticks are no joke. If i wanted, i could easily go in, target fingers, knees, ect and put a guy out for 6 weeks. I broke a guys thumb one on accident, and we was waring gloves.

  • Guy with the longhair should would a Vega costume next time.

  • Dude, this is sick.

  • While I love the enthusiasm and courage these guys display, I can't say I totally agree with the format. Granted, it's a very close representation of what a stick fight could be like, but the complete lack of control in some of the bouts seems to suggest these guys are getting a little to comfortable in the safety measures offered. Treat the olisi like a live blade; defense before offense. That said though, awesome.

  • @sjawarrior You have never dealt with a real blade if you think hanging back and using a parry is gonna be your go to move in a situation you are not running from. This looks about as real as you can get without steel. Ill say this too, if you ever have an opportunity to do the real thing, want to stay alive, and are not running away for some reason, your focus had better be offensive. Your best defense in a real environment is KILLING the other person. Stay safe and train hard.

  • @originalballer I've used a live blade before actually, but never for sparring (for obvious reasons, of course). I understand what you're trying to say; one's mentality in a fight is just as important as one's experience and skill. However, I still stand by my statement on emphasizing defense. There's little point in "winning" a fight if you also end up dead; I say it's better to purposefully pick your strikes than coming out swinging. Different philosophies, I guess.

  • Knives? What the fuck!?

  • warpaint... macho posturing... throwing facemasks away... getting carried away and fighting not to practise the art but just to win, regardless of technique or safety. hm. seems legit /sarcasm

the european version seems to be much more about learning than this. this one just seems to be guys wanting to impress people.

  • @ubersum1 To be honest man this isnt really about the art its about self defence.

The art behind it is all well and great but if thats your focus dont complain about the competitive nature behind the sport.

  • Wow, I'd always thought weapon training was for fags.

  • is a boken ok

  • @rodneyxxx not if musashi is competing

  • i only have training with a bo staff do they ever fight with bo staff or nunchukas?

  • 2:20 is awesome. long hair grabs that other fool's stick and beats him with it. 1st rule of stick fight club - don't sue. 2nd rule - hold on to your fucking stick!

  • what's the visibility like in those fencing masks and how well does it protect against the impact of strikes? and are they okay for regular boxing/kickboxing?

  • @openmindedproduction Visibility is fine. The protection of the fencing masks against impact is not the principal function, it is to protect the eyes, nose, and teeth. In Dog Brothers experience, realistic pain is the best teacher! That said, the newer generation fencing masks do provide some more protection than the masks that the original Dog Brothers were using... what Crafty Dog calls the "pre-Ralph Nader" fencing masks, which were essentially screen doors wrapped around the head.

  • i wanna know where to join this in europe!

  • lol at the little flying superman jump kick dude at the end xD

  • @Xanerix That shit was crazy, but by the looks of it, I think he may have scored that one.

  • real martial artists here! saw gokor.. and a flying ninja!! really really cool!! wish i could be there!

  • slaughter

  • OMG this is so savage. I give mad respect to anyone who steps in to fight at dog brothers.

  • Hw much does it cost for a fencing mask gloves and stick? And where can i train?

  • awsome just awsome. the pain pays off.

  • @NamChampskee 0:14 is a spectator..not a fighter. If they're BEHIND the fence they are not fighters. Hope this clears up your confusion

  • Comment removed

  • @NamChampskee You're looking at the lead Dog Brother Marc"Crafty Dog"Denny

  • @ytokijkla Nice to meet you .

  • Excellent stuff! I love the fact that there isnt a load of sponsorship labels slapped everywhere, there is no trash talk or disrespect, people take responsibility for their own actions and the fact that some quite fancy techniques were being displayed.

It was better than watching Spartacus too :)

  • I do not live my life by fear. I go where I want, when I want. When I find myself afraid, I seek to control the fear and not let it best me. But I have no desire to enter these contests. I'd rather go surfing and fight a wave.

  • Who is that handsome man? I can't wait to do this again. I just can't wait. USA....here I come. Be back soon.

  • wow, this is cool! It is suprising how many douche bags feel the need to pick it apart. These are probably the same guys who have never been in a real fight and think MMA looks gay.

  • @brianspost75 mma doesn't have weapons. but yeah i can see mma being used

  • Are hits to the back of the head allowed with sticks? Those fencing helmets don't look like they provide much protection to the back of the head...

  • @AlexMercersRevenge it sometimes happen because you cannot control how the other fighter moves during mid-swing, but it is not an "encouraged" target.

  • man, I've been wanting to organize one of these locally for years...but I am surprised that they're holding this event inside their club now, at least when doing this outdoors if someone does want to charge or sue someone it would be difficult, whereas here they could try to sue the owners of the building holding the event, no?

  • Street Fighters

  • say D brother , got any locales in the pensacola floriduh area? i'd love to take part n meet some good folks. thanks tons.

  • Great video! It really captured all the really neat moments of it all. That parkour guy was a lot of fun to watch.

By the way, I'm the guy getting kicked in the face by Boo Dog. Nice kick!

  • A...W...E...S...O...M...E!!!

  • The only thing I don't really like is that knife. Otherwise, this looks very fun and could be very useful in real life.

  • @Herc0gs The knife is actually the most realistic situation that you will come across. It really is what seperates us from that standard MMA guys. You will tend to think twice about grappling a person down if he has a knife...then what's your option? Give it a try, you might enjoy learning edged weapons for practical application. :)

  • Greetings, any Dog Brother based groups in Sweden? Would really like to know. Cheers.

  • @Arachnomen

There is a DBMA Training Group in Oslo Norway. There are also some guys in Gothenburg and Halmstad, who train and spar under similar conditions. Contact me if you have any questions :)

  • @Bjerr77 Hello thanks for the reply. I live in Stockholm so getting to Gothenburg, Halmstad and even Oslo might be a little complicated. How come there are no groups here in Stockholm? :o

  • nice head kick! something you don't expect in weapons drills. I learned from tanto randori that a good offense against a knife is the best bet. if you play defense you'll get carved up like a holiday bird.

  • @Galois: Your anti-Americanism is mistaken. There are Canadians and Mexicans in there too-- and our Euro Gathering is just as big.

  • @DBMAVIDS where is the gathering in europe?

  • @samurai184 it's in Bern Switzerland July 9th...I believe

  • @ytokijkla thanx! yes it s too soon for me, first time i know of the gatherings in europe, i dont wanna miss this opportunity to grow. hope next year im more prepared, (money). really love the real life attitude of the dog brothers way.

  • @samurai184 where abouts in Europe are you? and who are you training with the prepare for next year? I have some good friends in Germany and Greece that can help you out

  • Americans really like brutality, right?

  • @GaolisVideoLog I don't know what Continent or Country you live on, but the Dog Brothers is active in Mexico, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Greece and many other European areas. It is not "brutality" here but understanding real reactions to real "type" confrontations. It is interesting what you can and cannot do when there are no rules, no weight classes, no studying the opponent.

  • @ytokijkla You said the Dog Brothers are active in Sweden? Under what name do they roll, I can't find anything about them. :(

  • @Arachnomen sorry about that, I meany Switzerland. I do know that there are fighters in Sweden though. Contact Guro Crafty Dog for info on Tribes near you.

  • @ytokijkla Where can I find this Guro Crafty Dog about where/if they are located in Sweden?

  • @GaolisVideoLog Brutality is the reality of a violent encounter, learning how to SURVIVE that encounter is a smart idea if the chances are there you might be in one. I know you hate America but dont let it show in your comments. It makes you look stupid.

  • @GaolisVideoLog These guys are some of the most decent Americans I've seen in my life. Deal with it.

  • Can you guys put up the full video please ?

  • Just want to say congrats Dog Brothers.

    You've really got something here.

"90 percent of life is just showing up"

the other ten percent is knowing your material.

  • Looked like an Emerson at 1:11. That's cool that they incorporate folders as backup weapons. Kinda looked like he was trying to use the wave opener?

  • @kevinjb7 he had a much harder time getting it opened with the gloves on than what was shown in the video.

  • wow. looks so much fun.

  • His name is Robert Paulson.

  • This is fucked up. Sooo fucked up

  • @sk8arobby1232 why is this as you say it, "Sooo fucked up?"

  • @Fatal1ty919 because they were stabbing each other

  • @sk8arobby1232 those werent real knives with sharpened edges, look closely and you'll see those are either plastic or if they are metal they're probably aluminum training knives that have been blunted on both edge and point. If they were really stabbing each other there would be blood and the fight would be stopped because despite this is as close to a real fight as you'll get without a real fight, the people supervising these events still have the sense to stop these if there's trouble.

  • could i join im 17 but hella tough id like to give this a try no matter wut

  • MUY BUEN VIDEO GURO MARC SE NOTA QUE EL PERFORMANCE DE CADA PRACTICANTE ES DISTINTO SALUDOS DESDE PERU

  • "One rule only, be friends in the end of the day"

  • too much free time

  • Ohh, your only showing 3 minutes of video foottage? Last year you showed 10 minutes of your last gathering.

  • degetu sus daca te uiti la asta din cauza lui Badea! \m/

  • @kucam12 corect ar fi spus "multumita lui badea" :)

  • @funkyx0x0 taci si da thumbs up :)) eram entuziasmat, scuze :P

  • Woof Devobain:

  • For two years I've watched these videos and swore I would go. This is exactly what I've been looking for to test my skills.

  • Hellhoud!

    Long time bro, what's up?

  • Excellent Vid Crafty!

    ~ Hellhound

  • 2:57 is epic. I love this stuff.

  • Usually they just sort of come to me. The idea here seemed rather , , , crafty to me, but it felt silly to name it after myself so I started thinking of synonyms for crafty. The name of the pickpocket in Charles Dickens book "Oliver Twist", "the Artful Dodger" came to me. We already had the name "the Dodger" for the baseball bat like backhand power shot (based upon a story of Guro Inosanto) the only thing that remained was to "doggify" the name; that was done by converting the "t" to an "f".

  • That is the "Arf-ful Dodger".

    Crafty Dog

  • Comment removed

  • @DBMAVIDS Woof Crafty! I love the "dog" related names for the techniques. I can't figure out if you are spontaneously clever, or have t0 really think these over. Either way, they're great! Toki

  • Poi Dog, at 2:01 you're using a gaurd that I think is interesting. You're leading with the left side of your body, and the guard is an Umbrella guard. I wouldn't mind training some of this with you, Toki, Pappy, Booe, and Eric next weekend. I like the way that it opens up into power shots.

  • That and Pappy Dog's spinning back hand was nice too. I've been getting a lot from each of you and I want to start putting some of it together into a cohesive package for next year's gathering.

  • Great stuff there. Best regards, from Brazil.

  • Wow very impressive.

  • Nice Video.

One of the best about Gathering.

See you next year at lonleys. :)

  • I was so happy to be there. The heart of it all - that these men are learning practical application to protect their families - is the best reason to learn to fight.

  • @crystalmonkeygirl ahahahaha yea except then someone pulls a gun and murders you and your entire family execution style

"protect their families?" more like circle jerking with a bunch of dudes

you wanna roll around the floor with a sweaty dude and punch eachother in the dick? be my guest. just dont assume it's going to ever help you do anything besides be a testosterone filled meathead

  • @Esparno most people who attack do not really want to have to fight, so the training and knowledge these men get is great for their self confidence, and yes, for truly protecting their families. I hope your bitterness does not come from some sort of family tragedy in your life. It is honorable for men to know what to do in actual situations where fighting is not scripted. Most MMA training is so scripted that it gives you no real practical way to know how u would respond in a real fight.

  • @crystalmonkeygirl Thanks for the support. Very few ever really understand the need or purpose of a gathering such as this. This group is made up of people with all kinds of experience and from all walks of life. Like a street fight, you can't pick and choose how big or small of a fighter you get..and no rules. I hope you come to the next one. For the record, I was the one stabbing the guy in the rear end...it wasn't punching to the groin. I have to end the fight a fast as possible.

  • @ytokijkla that was funny btw!

  • @crystalmonkeygirl mma is scripted? i truely hope you believe this and are just this dumb through sheer genetics, then at least it is not your fault

the alternative is that you are being deceptive on purpose and makes me sad for humanity

i think fighting with knives and sticks with no real point based system is foolish, considering a lot of the fights in this video would be over super fast in real life, no jumping off of walls and turning around all theatrical in real life

  • @Esparno Don't think you've ever been hit by a stick then.

Even with the masks on, a solid hit to the head can knock you clean out. Along with that, alot of guys are now using shock knives (look them up) and they are NASTY.

  • @Esparno Until the day you actually are forced to roll around the floor with a sweaty dude. I.E. protect yourself and family. When that day comes, I hope you are ready and think back to the moment.

  • @RyogaVee or just carry a knife, gun, mace, stun gun, or taser and not have to roll around on the floor with a sweaty dude

i always have my knife on me, and i know how to throw it

knife in chest is a distraction, enough for me to either run or end the fight with a fist to the temple

and most of the time you are "protecting yourself and family" it is due to either home invasion or mugging which is usually more than one person

good luck fighting off multiple attackers without a gun numbnuts

  • @crystalmonkeygirl you ARE joking right? there is nothing practical about learning to fight with a knife or stick

what WOULD be practical would be learning how to throw a knife, or simply carry a gun with you

because most people "protecting their families" are killed by the gun the mugger or whatever is carrying

good luck blocking the bullets with a sword (stick) or knife

  • @Esparno .right now!, do you have a gun on you? NO...didn't think so. Chances are, you probably don't even own a gun, and if you did, you couldn't carry it. It is also obvious that you don't know how to fight with a knive, no knife fighter would ever throw it. Well, unless you are Sayoc, in which case they carry 10 on them, or at least train to. But the likelihood that you would be able to throw the knife...stick it an adelaline state is nil. You can live in your fantasy "backyard" ninja world

  • @ytokijkla The thing I love about this is that it removes all the need for "talk." Just do. Miss you all.

  • @Esparno You're more than welcome to come. I'll fight you and I don't even know who you are or what you look like. I'm sure that you'll get plenty of opportunities to prove your theory.

  • @dayvidfranke Will you fight anyone?

  • @tollerancewithpride it's what we do... I'm 5'2" 135lbs, and all my fights are people generally 6ft and up and 200lbs and up. Yep! we'll fight anyone. The stick...if you are good with it, along with good footwork, is a great equalizer

  • @ytokijkla I'm 17 skinny 6 foot and i aint ever trained with anyone. I'm looking for a teacher and a trainer to get my muscles in shape. i want to compete, i've practiced the sticks only i use a foot long steel bar just for triaining purposes. How much would a filipino fighting stick and fencing mask cost and what sort of gloves would I need?

  • @tollerancewithpride look up dogbrotherseuro. There are several Dog Brother groups in Europe

  • @ytokijkla Yeah my footwork is appaling at min. My dad can take my head off before I get close at min. But he's training me slowly and every smack is a lesson.

  • @tollerancewithpride That's Great! Footwork really is the foundation to effective and efficient striking. Learn it right. Most jump into hitting...and hitting hard. Eventually thier footwork is neglected and it seems like going backwards to resolve this so they don't. This is an obvious "hole" in their fighting ability and is very easy to time a counter or transitional strike. Try walking and swinging, run and swing, then swing faster then you run, run faster then you swing

  • @ytokijkla I know i let my anger and pain control me, my dad's teaching me self-control as it is my lack of self discipline thats hindering my footwork.

  • @Esparno Throwing a knife? Well you'd have to be able to get a throwing knife and considering most muggers use, pens or lock blades. Plus yeah great carry a gun except in my country I'd get arested for carrying an offensive weapon. you shud never carry a weapon anywhere unless your prepared to kill. And I'm not and neither are most of the kids who pull knives they recon a knife'lll stop a fight but you bring shit like that in and it gives your opponant 2 choices Kill or be killed

  • I was there.

  • Nice stuff and congrats and respect go out to all who participated!

I think having them indoors is a good move in that there is less chance of ill informed people driving past or walking past a park where previous gatherings have been held and not knowing what is going on and complaining to the authorities about it. This sort of thing should not be banned as the work done by the Dog Brothers is important in the reality based self protection world.

We can all learn from what the DBs do.

  • those not familiar with this or FMA can research the Juego Todo or Bahad of the Philippines, specifically of the Visayan islands.

  • whats the deal with the knife? is it like... real?

  • @chasing3suns regarding the knives, they are training knives. Usually high gauge aluminum, the blade is not sharp. But the point edge...well, still sharp. I actually got punctured in the chest. Kept me honest on my technique, and not the take that risk next time.

  • omg!!! this is even more hardcore than mma. :D cool!

  • *sorry Toki* I meant dread opponent.

  • slappydappy,

This sort of thing is for people who want to prepare for the reality of a real fight when then possibility of weapons is a reality. Military, Law Enforcement and Prison Guards regularly seek this kind of training.

I understand you have criticisms, but you simply cannot deny the people participating in these fights possess the same skill sets as your MMA heroes, and more.

  • @Toki... Lol. I love telling people that I'm delicate. Haha. :) and you are indeed a fread opponent. I learn so much just watching you.

@ some people... Rule number one, respect your opponent's ability. My not respecting one of my opponent's sticks only fractured a rib in my upper chest, I was lucky it wasn't worse.

@ slappy... There you go mate. Train and show up. We'd love to have you. The only rule that we have is that we are friends at the end of the day. I say this sincerely.

  • Slappy...the sticks, are representative of sticks, but if you investigate the art of Kali Escrima, the motions and movements also parallel the sword and empty hand techniques. Yes, one can get KO'd.

I'm by no means a master, but if you want to come try it out at the next open gathering, I'll put myself out there for you, then again, I'm a delicate flower; nonetheless, I'll give you a go as I'm sure others will. Perhaps we'll both learn something.

  • @dayvidfranke That's funny David! Um...there is a reason that you are called "OX"... delicate flower is far off the radar. I'll take him on, heck..he should be able to handle a simple 5'2" 135 pounder. :)

  • LOL. I am not an "armchair athlete". If anything, some of the people in this video look like that. Seriously, what are the sticks for? Do the represent swords or bats? Also, how is someone supposed to knock someone out if they are wearing a damn helmet? Are any submission, such as heel hooks, allowed? This is so bizarre.

  • @Slappydappy Anything is allowed, we are trying to knock someones head off with a stick for christ sakes. Heck, if a knife can be shoved up an ass, anything pretty much goes....have at it. Oh, you should know, just like a street fight...there are no rules or weight classes. Ask for a "dance", anyone will accept!

  • Was that Gokor I just saw?

  • @Shaunton1 Yes! It was held at his training hall.

  • you can find me @2:47...shoving the knife in the guys sphincter, I'm not wearing a mask.

  • DBMA may just be the best real world fighting on the planet. Awesome

  • hey, i went to this!!! it was pretty intense stuff. hats off to those who fought

  • It's like clockwork...once a Dog Brothers video gets posted. Most "armchair athletes" that have numerous hours of Spike TV UFC viewing or Bar fighters that are used to hitting another drunk comes out of the woodwork. The criticism from one that has Zero experience in what they are commenting on is meerly comical at best. People always say they "wish" or "want" to fight in the gathering. Only 3 things stop them... their "will".,,their "desire" ...or their Vagina.

  • I wish more people got what martial arts is really about. It is about the continuos imrpovement and mastery of self and one's interaction with the universe that surrounds us. I am blessed to be surrounded by excellence. This includes you Toki.

  • @dayvidfranke Thanks Brother! After 36 years in the Martial Arts and basically doing MMA before UFC was around, I find that there is still so much to learn and new ways to be challenged. Surrounding yourself with people who keep you "honest" is the best. We are surrounded by many who forces us to grow. I can't wait for you to contribute what you know and learn from that.

  • @slappydappy... No need to be rude slappy. You can be happy. When the fight goes to the floor, the masks do indeed come off so that you can hit your opponent. As Toki has stated, the gathering is open. You can show up and fight.

  • Please don't use the word "master" in reference to yourself. It's just self-masturbation. I would love to show up and fight anyone there, but only on the condition they are not allowed to a helmet of any kind. I want them to feel my fists.

  • lol this is stupid. stupidly fucking awesome. but still not as enjoyable as shock fighting championships where real men threw down with live stun guns.

  • So do MMA fighters ever show up and just embarrass everyone?

  • @Slappydappy MMA fighters have shown up, but do not fair well against someone beating them down with the sticks and always the potential stab of the knife. The NOHO tribe train at Gokor's gym along side many well known MMA fighters. But they all think we're crazy, they don't like the presence of a blade in the mix. Each Sept. the OPEN gathering will accept anyone willing to step on the floor, but you have to be armed. If you decide to forego the weapon later...well, that's your choice.

  • @Slappydappy Also, most Dog Brothers are well versed in many other systems ranging from Jujitsu, kempo, Kajukenbo, Krav Maga,JKD and others. You'd be surprised how many are reknowned Masters in other systems.

  • they're like gladiators lol. the wall jump strike at 1:07 was awesome.

  • Once you step on the mat at a Dog Brothers Gathering of the Pack and thus face the fire brought by an opponent who is dedicated to striking you as mercilessly as he is able, and then by doing so, tap into to generations of the multiple arts brought to bear at that moment and that time, you have no choice but to step off that mat permanently changed. BRING IT ON. -Dog Howie

  • @mrhowieMANDEL

Hey howie I sent you an email bud. You never got back to me eh. Get back at me through here eh.

    aj

  • excelente video

    admiro a los dog brothers

    felicitaciones

  • Also I'd love to test myself against Boo dog. Please take that with the most respect.

  • amazing vid people.....to all who fought and to the editors of the vid.....freakin amazing.....something i can only hope to achieve.....that guy in the jeans starting at 2:18 is off the hook.....remind me NEVER to piss him off :P......and my friend Ryan (Ironman mask) did real well too.....i also do my best not to piss him off..... :)

  • @ytokijkla The blessings are mine as well Toki. I learn so much from all of you. In fact, I live in downtown L.A. and spend night after night, on the roof of my building, practicing what I have learned from you. I want to represent us well in Europe and I am so thankful for all of your guidance. I can't wait to see you tomorrow!

  • @dayvidfranke you have lots of time for the Euro. You have come leaps and bounds since the Gathering. I am sure you will make us proud. It is a pleasure to share with you. I would hate being the guy on the receiving end of your smash!

  • Dog brothers at a whole new level! AWESOME!

  • respect to all those who fought. Unbelievable the athleticism you see in the matches now.

  • I'm not much of an artist Ryan but you better believe I'll have a Spider-Man themed helmet next time around.

  • @jakesmashington you've got great Muay Thai skills. I look forwqard to seeing you at the next one. Loved your clinch.

  • @dayvidfranke Thank you. I'm hoping I can get to the next gathering. A friend of mine saw the highlight reel is pretty much lost it. He's TOTALLY down to come. We're scouting out train tickets and hoping some local dogs will put us up for a few nights. I hope to im
