  • You can do it on both, however, for the sake of length and the health of my hair, I prefer to do this style on dry hair that is well moisturized.

  • umm these arent flat twists...these are called 2- strand twist

  • hmmm I have been practicing flat twisting my hair for a few months now and I have yet to learn how to do it and have definition of the twists as they lay flat on my head. they do not look defined AT ALL...I usually just wear them over night then take em out in the am. abd rock a twist out, ( which looks well defined) but i'd like to wear them the way u have them in this vid. what could i be doing wrong? :-/

  • lolz Hilarious song. Great video :-)

  • Oh my goodness! I have been struggling with the whole flat twist concept, until i saw your video. Thank you sooo much!

  • Wow looks lovely going to try it. I'm just learning to double strand flat twist and I can only do basic styles right now but thus id a good challenge! Thanks

  • i like the song.

  • u taught me a good skill. I did it to my hair for the 1st time and it looked great. Thank you.

  • who sings this song?

  • Thanks. You now have NEW SUBCRIBER! ^_^

  • best damn youtube video on how to since katlynlyn THANKS GIRL YEAH YEAH THANK YOU

  • could you still do this if your hair isn't natural

  • Sure can! It may not look the same, or be as full, but it can be done!

I've since texlaxed my hair, but I can still achieve this style.

  • skills

  • Thanks this is the best tutorial!

  • Great video/design! For those of u wondering, the song is Naturally by Tonex.

  • I love that song thanks for the video now I get it.

  • what is the name of this song featured in this video?

  • this is a nice tutorial!

  • my hair is almost to my shoulders..it was to my bra strap until i had to get it cut all off b-cuz of a bad perm...anyway..i thought about just goin natural..is there anyway i could do this with my hair being this length & just not get anymore perms or do i just need to cut it all off again and start from there?

  • Sure can, there's no reason why it shouldn't work on your hair, however, understand that the overall look won't be the same. Natural hair is what makes flat twists so plump. If your hair is relaxed you can still achieve this style, it just won't look as full.

    HTH

  • i tried it on my hair..i did a mohawk w/ these twist goin up the sides and every1 including me loved!!! and i also did my kids hair like this too, it looks great...thanks!!!

  • merci beaucoup !! thank u so much

  • nice tutorial and song! who is the artist?!?!

  • Ladies I have found the name of the song being played throughout the video, "Natural" by Tonex.

    Keep it natural ladies :-)

    Peace, love, and blessings.

  • the video should be labeled two strand twist they look nice

  • The name of the song is "Natural" by Tonex.

  • Thanks for the tutorial! I'm finna go try this right now.

Also, I think the song in the video is "Natural" by Tonex.

  • I am ready to try the twist. Also, love the song. Great message.

    Thank You!

  • Great tutorial. I can braid, however, I never understood how to twist. Now I do thx to you.

    Continued blessings....

  • correct....she is doing a two-strand twist not a flat twist, which consists of only one strand being twisted around the remaining hair on the scalp....

  • YEAH THAT'S A TWO STRAND TWIST...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaase tell me who sings this song . PLEASE!

  • "natural" by tonex

  • That's Tonex. The song is called "Natural"

  • Comment removed

  • your hair looks beautiful ma!!! I love how you do ya twist, I think they will stay in alot better then how people do other twisties. What is the song playing during ya video??? i think it's by music soul child, right?!?! idk but please tell me when you can!!!

  • The song is Tonex-Keep It Natural

  • I just want to know who sings the song you have on here???

  • That's Tonex. The song is called "Natural"

  • b e a utiful!

  • nice......

  • wow thanks for the video. i love the song even though i be rockin the perm lol. if i can do this and other cute hairstyles i jus might keep it natural.

  • ur hair looks beautiful!!!

  • who sings this song on your tutorial. Your flat twist tutorial is excellent.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! I've been trying to figure out how to do flat twists for quite a while and I'm glad your video gives quick and easy instructions. Thanks Thanks Thanks!!!

  • do u know how to do kinky twists

  • great vid! ty :)

  • Nice Video! I am in college and I'm sick of having my hair in a ponytail or wavy. I will definitely give this a try!

  • Great tutorial. I may be able to do this. Thanks!

  • Can you please not hide this video...I'm not from Nappturality but BHm and this is like a BIG HELP

  • ...don't worry. I delete that message in the description. I'm no longer a member of Nappturality either, but I will keep this video up for other naturals.

  • i like your video

    but you should put

    it's label as

    two strand twist

    because thatsz what

    you are doing. but

    great video

  • Actually two-strand twists do not lie flat against your head as these "flat twists" do. Two strand twists usually involve two strands of hair twisted together that hang low/vertical (and oftentimes people who aren't natural -- or want more length --- add extension hair/kinky hair to them).

  • oommmggg ssoo kkkull..never knew dt u cld do dt..am so gona try it..wooohoo..

  • Merci pour la vidéo depuis le temsp que je cherche à apprendre à les faire (french)

Thanx posting this video since i want to learn to do this

  • Great tutorial and I love the song :D

  • Great twist video! Now I can actually do it lol.

  • Who sings this song?

  • ty for this video! I've been trying to find new ways to do my little sisters hair so that she can keep it nautral and not have to relax it, we're both mixed but she has more African American hair than I do, and my mom has no idea what to do with it! lol

I'm gonna give it a try with straight parts and hopefully will develop into more inricate parts like you do :D

  • came out nice!

  • This has really helped me but for some reason I am having problems with my left side they don't seem as good. any suggestions?

  • this is awesome! ive never done my twists this way, but u better believe im going to start now! & this song is beautiful, i luv it!

  • those are very cute and neat.

  • Thank you so much! I felt clueless on how to do these until I saw your tutorial. I can't do hair for the life of me...but hey at least now I can flattwist lol

  • I want to see what the twist out looks like. Please Please. I just can figure out how to do the flat twists. Everytime I've try they come out looking a hot tangled mess.

  • How long iss the jhair?

  • In this video my hair is different lengths because it's layered. I'd say the longest layer was below shoulder length (at the back) and the front was near and past my ear (once again layers).

  • Thank you for the video. Very informative.

  • I am going to try to grow my hair natural!

  • img going to go try i hope it comes out because my afro is getting boring

  • wow thats pretty

wat were yu doin it for?

  • Thank you! =) ...that was just an everyday style...nothing in particular.

  • Why does this feel like its impossible for me to do. You make it seem so easy.

  • what kind of shampoo do you use or do u make ur own?

  • what kind of shampoo do u use...or do u make ur own?

  • I'm not really particular about shampoos anymore. As a natural I used Herbal Essences, V05, Suave, etc. I was more into conditioners than anything. =)

  • question...where did u get this song, looked everywhere for it, its not even on imeem. Do u know what cd the song is from? Im really feeling this song.

  • The song is from Tonex's Oak Park cd. When it first came out is was available on iTunes. Maybe you can check there...it's a few years old. I hope that helps.

  • thank you so much this is exactly what i wanted. I too have natural hair. and the other way doesn't work in my hair.

  • Where I'm from we call those...cornrows. I thought flat twists were the ones where you did not separate the hair, but simply twisted it flat to the scalp while slowly gathering more and more hair.

  • Oh wow, that's different. I've never heard them referred to as cornrows simply because cornrows requires 3 strands of hair and is a braid on your scalp, this is simply a flat two-strand twist on your scalp.

    What area are you from?

  • I just want to thank you so much for this video. I followed your advice and I am actually doing it now! Thanks!

Now, I can't wait for when I'm able to do them as professionally and neatly as you can!

  • I twisted all the time when my hair was relaxed, but i put some in my natural hair the day before yesterday and it didn't hold because my hair is so curly. What do you use or suggest to help hold the twists?

  • I love the way you part your hair. Can you do a video on how you part your hair in those styles. I try ans my parts always come out straight looking rather than nice and curved

  • Hopefully in the near future I will be able to. As of now though, I'm unable to fulfill this request since I don't have the time and I'm keeping my hair cornrowed for a while.

You can however look through my Fotki album for pictures of how I parted my hair.

  • I have always wanted to do flat twists in my natural hair, but never knew how to do it. Now I know ! Thanks for the video. You made it look so simple. I'll probably try it for the first time on my daughter's hair first.

  • nice

  • Very pretty. I would love to be able to do this. I will practice on my daughters hair and probably view this video 1,001 times! Thanks.

  • that is sexy....how long did it take to do your hair like that

  • Thank you! Wow...it's been so long. I'd say probably 30 minutes to part and flat twist just the front section.

  • whats the name of this song?..its Lovely. And thanks for this Video it is So informative.

  • The song is entitled "Natural" by Tonex.

  • Great video and love the song.

  • Your hair is beautiful. Thank you for the video. You made it very easy to see how to do a flat twist.

    Thanks!

  • U GOT SKILLZ!!!! I gotta try it this way!!!!

  • Do You Secure em wi Bobbles/ Bands Or Not?

  • If your hair is natural then you don't need to secure them with anything. The texture of your hair is all the security you need! ;-)

  • that's interesting b/c I am finding that to be my problem. When ever I try to twist my hair it always come unraveled b/c my hair is so curly/wavy...but I will keep trying...cause your twist look great

  • I'm so glad that you left this video up. I have been trying to figure out how to flat twist my hair for some time now and then I found ur video. I never realized that it was this easy

  • Guys, do we flat twist when it's wet? And do we add a product to the strands we start with?

  • I've never really flat twisted when my hair was wet simply because it's in it's weakest state, and I don't need to add the tension of flat twisting to make things worse.

Also, I don't use products such as gel to flat twist. I may use a heavy cream or moisturizer for my ends, but that's about it.

  • Sista girl... those are some fancy parts you got going on there! Very nice!

  • whats the music or whos singing??

  • That's Tonex. The song is called "Natural".

  • Is it eassier to not blow dry the hair straight before twisting?

  • Blowing your hair straight won't give you the natural/kinky look of flat twists. I didn't find it hard to do my hair in it's natural state if it was previously stretched. For instance, if I twisted it earlier in jumbo twists or wore a puff then my hair would already be stretched so that I wouldn't really have to comb through it and risk breakage.

  • your hair is fricken beautiful! hella gonna try this out! :D

  • Wow..thank you! Your hair looks really good :)

  • Oh my goodness! I really appreciate the fact that you did not indeed remove/lock this video, it really is helpful, and I'm still trying to get it down. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your video.

  • How are you? Just stopping by to show some love to all the lovely natural ladies and letting you know that there are men out there that find natural hair sexy! my girlfriend has natural hair and she stay's on the nappturality forums all day, her names ms-gg I think....anyway, keep it natural.....

  • Thank you so much for letting me view this. It seems like its easier to do flat twists w/ small sections than w/ bigger ones like I used to try to do. Now If I could just get the parting down :)

  • omg it seems sooo easy now....thank you

  • Thank you for the instructions, it was very clear. This is one of the best. Also the song "You do what comes to you naturally." Where may I acquire that CD.

  • Great video. I tried it and I can say it looks easier than it really is. lol I was like MAN! I just did some twisties and put rubber bands on the end, but I am determined to get this down. Especially considering I don't know how to cornrow.

  • Please do not remove this video. It is very helpful for those who don't know how to do it.

  • Ooh k. i see how you do it.. i just hope i can do it.. thanks alot.. its a great video.

  • love the design

  • Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. Now I'm off to practice.

  • Thanks for sharing! I think I'm not adding hair to each section, each time.........& I don't know how my flat twist end up being more to one side instead of down the center either???????????

  • I have this same problem too, I just can't get them centered. This occassionally happens with my cornrows as well...wierd.

  • thank you so much, seeing your video has encourgage me to get better at twisting my hair .
