  • Back then this was a high tech video people.

  • For some reason I consider 1980 and the first half of 1981 to be still part of the 70s rather than the 80s

  • wtf, I was watching norwegian commercials and now I'm here. What happened?!

  • Music lives in the 80s

  • the version from The Dan Band is much better, this is crap

  • im 18, but i feel like ive been lived in 80... can anybody explain this feeling o.O

  • @NildoRazoke past life or picking up the thoughts of others who lived in 80s

  • Thumbs up. I love this song!

  • 80's music videos are very Cheesy

  • @WebkinzPeace411 Many were but there were also many that were not. :) You have to look and find them...

  • Con este temazo empezaba la mejor decada musical " Los 80s " ........el inicio de una decada inolvidable

  • What about the one in Australia (2006)?

  • 164 people dont want to live forever :O :P

  • It seems to me that all the ideas for everlasting songs are exhausted 15 or more years ago. Since the mid of 90s all the music seems like a pale copy or a kind of instant music.

Sometimes I feel like in time this song is made, the life was much more calm and natural...

    Cheers!

  • i so love this song :D we used it in our school musical.

  • wtf?!! wow.. psychodelic.. guess this was the thang at the time huh.. yea think boney m or someone had similar vibe.

  • this video is late 70's cheesetastic!

  • Irene hit #4 in Billboard, 9-13-80. Anybody remember her 1 season on the 'electric company' as, Iris? God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Now this is what a I call music <3 I may be in my 20's, but I love this music thanks to my mom <3 xD I wish I lived in this era, lol.

  • I lived it! LOL this is a bad looking video! The music is great. Shame they got rid of the intro. i'll keep searching for it. Stomping on the cars. Great intro. She sang great but this video too blurry!

  • Ok kids....(Anyone born from 1985 on) performance art and video tech (especially video tech) weren't what they are now. Yay us! But I never saw this video in the '80s. But I heard the song hundreds of times on the radio. And it's a great song....very vivifying. Much better than music by committee (which is what we get these days.)

  • @75jdwest

I've always considered "kids" anyone born 1980 and after. I've always felt that people born in the 1970s were the last generation of mature humans. In my experience the 80s and 90s borns are extremely immature, swear all the time and are just arrogant and selfish. I'm a part of it unfortunetely.

  • @Gaznugget Don't tar us all with the same brush.

  • @suedescentedsin

Oh I know, but it doesn't help when the majority are like that. Most who comment on youtube seem to be like that.

  • @Gaznugget I tend to agree with you, actually.. but I think it's because people get a lot mouthier online and they just so happen to be the 80's and 90's borns who were introduced to the internet from being young. If you look at people offline, I think it's mainly the 90's borns who dress in a slovenly manner and don't know enough words to express a tangible thought. That's why a lot of comments are simply lines quoted from the videos themselves and/or blind praise/hatred.

  • @suedescentedsin

Okay, I agree with you. I happen to be a "90s born" by the way. I tend to dislike two generations; the baby boomers (1946 to 1964) and those born in the 80s and 90s.

  • @Gaznugget I noticed you were 90's born after I'd made the comment and I didn't mean to target you. My parents are baby boomers!

  • @suedescentedsin

Considering you wrote "Don't tar us all with the same brush" I assume you're an 80s born. And your parents are baby boomers huh? Well it's nothing personal (obviously because I don't know you or your parents) but I dislike the generation I am a part of (80s and 90s borns) and I dislike the generation your parents belong to as well. That leaves me liking 20s, 30s and 40s (up to 1945) borns, 1965 to 1979 borns and 2000 onwards borns. I know it sounds silly.

  • @Gaznugget At least you're honest about it and not being nasty like most do. I don't know about you but I have strong opinions that sometimes go against the norm (nothing racist, homophobic, "weird", etc) and I get crucified for it.

Back to the topic, I dread to think how 2000 onwards-borns will actually turn out, given the way things are going.

  • @suedescentedsin

I do get nasty on youtube sometimes, but only with other nasty people (who suprise suprise just happen to be 80s and 90s borns) so I guess I'm just like the people I dislike... Yes I also get crucified for some of my strong opinions (usually relating to peak oil, climate change, overpopulation, animal slaughter, narrow minded SUV owners etc) What were your strong opinions?

Another reason I dislike 80s and 90s borns is they influence those born 2000 and after. I blame them.

  • @Gaznugget My strong opinions tend to surround the evils of modern media and people who can't think for themselves. People too stupid to just listen to a side of a story even if they disagree with it because they're so insecure in their own beliefs. And "girl gamers". And hentai.

  • @suedescentedsin

I agree with you on your strong opinions of modern media, but I'm not too sure what you mean by "girl gamers" and hentai? Could you explain?

  • WHAT THE EFFIN "CLUCK!!?" is she wearing in this atrocious concept of a video?

  • She's gonna live forever with this song, that's for sure ! :)

  • Although it's a 1980 song, it sounds much more like a late 1970s disco kind of music than actualy a typical 1980s song. It was from that period of transition music was going through from the end of a decade to the beginning of another.

  • imma 14 yr old watching this in 2011 and loving it

  • this is from just dance

  • dance moves like crazy

  • Irene Cara is like a chicken. Horrible dress!

  • M FASINAN LOS BAILARINES , SON ESPECTACULARES ,

  • Did she perform this on Soild Gold back in the day or was this offical music video.

  • This such a wonderful, uplifting song; thanks for the post!

  • My school used this in its musical. The "remeber" part sounded like they were trying to brainwash and hypnotise you.

  • I loved this song as a kid than completely forgot about it until now. AWSOME!

  • @robertsrashad

Ah, where to begin, where to begin. First Lil Wayne didn't even make the beat everyone is referring to, that beat was made by Cool&Dre. Second, Cool&Dre did NOT use this song as a sample. They used the song "She's On Fire" by Amy Holland as the sample.

Irene Cara can NOT be called an artist for this song. She did nothing except sing. The song was written by other people, arranged by other people, and Irene was discovered by other people. She just had to stand there looking nice

  • How can I like this more than once?!?!?!?! They dont make songs like this anymore..... love it.

  • ME ENCANTAN LOS BAILARINES SON ESPECTACULARES , CMO BAILAN CON ESA ENERGIAAA CON PASION AL BAILE , LA VERDAD Q LOS AMO , NO M CANSO D VER SIEMPRE EL VIDEO, GRACIAS X SUBIRLO

  • And they claim she was a bigot. Or I was a bigot, Or my name, Lenny Bruce, was to avoid the subject of my lesson of work ethics. Push my name: Bigot, bigot, bogot. FAME; I'm gonna' find it coming together. I remember: Irene Cara.

  • Oh god this music video.

    I SWEAR I HAVEN'T TAKEN ANY DRUGS. x_x

  • Obviouslly about lord voldemort...

  • if like me you had seen the unfortunate 'performance' this so called singer gave in 'Bennets' in Glasgow uk you would be howling away at this camp rubbish she was soooooooooooooo bad it was laughable too busy with the class A's in the backroom eh dear UTTER SHITE tho her fabulous run of hits (lol) has prooved her 'talent' Avoid!
  • them sexy bras...i am masturbating

    yeah!!! yeah leeroy!

  • This is great, she's a fabulous singer!

But i have to say, she's not a dancer :)

  • bue cool

  • from Jose the hermeterec......Irene is a goddess

  • fame is like a diescription. it doesn't amke sense.

  • The hangover version is better

  • waahpeepaahshhikt needs to clean his/her mouth out with soap or something to clean up the filth. Grow up!!!! I hate rap - so get over yourself. They are talking zombies who can't carry a tune and all they talk about is violence!!!!!!

  • @Jetta3510

not all rap is about violence. i don't know what you like to listen to, but I can guarantee it's content isn't squeaky clean. you shouldn't generalize.

i hope you aren't too narrow-minded to check out a few suggestions for rappers who don't fit your original description of rap - try listening to:

Public Enemy (classic rap, politically charged)

Eyedea & Abilities (intelligent rap, Eyedea also sang/played guitar for Carbon Carousel and Face Candy, rock/jazz bands)

    please listen!

  • I still love hearing Irene Cara. A great talent!

  • To old the negative comments about the costumes and everything I tell you that you should understand that in those days MUSIC was the most important thing, and videos was almost an afterthought. It was all about how it felt, I mean you remember the 60' s right? I mean damn! do you get shivers down you spine with Justin Timberlake?

  • SMDH at all of the negative comments. Jeez, children. You had to live it in order to understand it. This video and song was done 3 years before MTV! Irene wrote this song! It was a mega hit and still holds its own 31 years later. FYI, there was life on the planet before Y-tube, 24hr cable, facebook, cell phones and Ipods etc. The disposable music of today will not stand the test of time.

  • @92bravo im 14 and i love ur comment so much im growing up with the elderly and still have much to learn so thanks for that warming comment

  • @NeoNxMizz hey, you're not the only young gun sticking with the veterans. I stay with the vets too!

  • @92bravo I love this song and I'm 14 :P My favorite music is showtunes, musical theatre stuff. Although I do have a soft spot for Lady Gaga, because I think that she makes terrible music but she has a great voice. I also have a soft spot for Girls Aloud, because they brought pop back from the grave.

  • @92bravo Btw Irene didn't write this song Dean Pitchford wrote it

  • @92bravo SING IT!!!

  • I'll second that statement!!!!

  • @92bravo Add that list, Video recorders, Microwave ovens, Sky TV, the "INTERNET" Laptops, Debit cards, Themed pubs, KFC, Starbucks, Subway, Fuel injection, ECT. and I managed to enjoy myself even before all this was invented !

  • @92bravo you are absolutely right

  • this was posted 2 000 000 yearsBC (Y

  • Who give a fuck the song is GREAT!!!

  • amazing!

  • The song is great.

    The clothes are idiotic.

Is she suppose to be an indian chief?

What does that have to do with fame?

I guess when you're a chief, people know you a lot. Ha ha ha. She is famous that way.

  • the dancing is great love it

  • 1980!!!

  • all i can picture watching this is those peacocks jumping around in those ridiculous costumes in front of a green screen

  • Luol Deng sings it better!

  • Lol those costumes are awful but the song is great!

  • Look at me and tell me what you see? I see someone with really ugly clothes.

  • anyone ever heard the metal version of this song made by the band adagio, its really awsome

  • 80s had the best music without a doubt.

  • @tech4156

80s rocked yeah, but so did 70s. Remember this is from 1980 so the 70s immediately before this were fantastic too. The 60s started it, the 70s and 80s were the golden music boom times, the 90s saw it's decline (not instantly bad, just decline) Personally I don't think music will ever get better, as I think all the best ideas were used up in those two decades.

  • @Gaznugget You are incorrect! It started in the 50s. Heard of Elvis? Heard of Buddy Holly? Heard of Jerry Lee Lewis? Chuck Berry? Bill Haley? I could go on, but you get the idea.

  • @Alikah1

Yes you are absolutely right. But what I meant by the "60s started it", was that the 60s started the boom of the modern kind of music that had originated in the mid-late 50s and has continued developing into today. I personally listen to jazz music from the 20s, yesterday I listened to a song from Judy Garland in the 30s and there are a lot of songs in the 50s I love also. But I consider 50s and before to be slightly different to 60s and beyond if you get what I mean :)
