I just learned of Matts death... I really enjoyed watching him chasing storms and looked forward to seeing more of him on TV. I had no idea of Matt Hughes passing until I saw the episode of "Storm Chasers" last night. When the tribute came on at the beginning of the show that the episode was dedicated to him there was such a void. A lot of us in the storm chasing community didn't want to harp on his suicide because it really hurts to see another do the same thing. Eric Nguyen did the same back in 2007. Matt was an awesome chaser and I hate that this happened. My brother killed himself back in 1994, so I know what Matt's family and friends are going through. Three times I know of that Matt and I were on the same storm, I just wished it could be more.

I hate having to hear this bad news about Matt. It wasn't too long ago that Eric Nguyen took his own life. I storm chase myself and can't understand why this has happened. Thank you so much for your comment. Well I thought making that video was a great way to say to him "goodbye". Personally I also didn't know him, but I talked vía Facebook messages with him several times. Today at 10 am (5 pm in Spain) was his funeral. I tried to get as much people as posible to make a minute of silence for him and actually it worked perfectly!
My next successful chase I'm going to dedicate it to him, can be sure!

I myself had no idea that Matt passed away until this episode of storm chasers about ten mins ago. Though I cant find out how he passed away. Rest in Peace Matt. You are the only one whom I think can get the TIV that intercept Matt if sean would have only listened to you. Rest in Peace Brother.

So.....why is everyone being so quiet about the cause of death? I hear rumblings that he comitted suicide. Others say he had an "accident". Whatever happened, people don't like talking about it. Either way, he was the only reason that the TIV team had any success the last 2 seasons. So long Matt, you don't need a tank to chase storms anymore!

@catamaranman333 I have seen him twice while out chasing storms myself. A lot of us in the storm chasing community didn't want to harp on his suicide because it really hurts to see another do the same thing. Eric Nguyen did the same back in 2007. Matt was an awesome chaser and I hate that this happened. My brother killed himself back in 1994, so I know what Matt's family and friends are going through. Three times I know of that Matt and I were on the same storm, I just wished it could be more.

Matt Hughes, a featured meteorologist on Storm Chasers passed away on May 26th, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas due to an injury unrelated to his chasing activities. Sean, Reed, Tim and everyone involved in Storm Chasers mourn the loss of their friend and colleague. Next Wednesday at 10pm, a special Storm Chasers episode called "Dedication" will feature Matt's incredible last chase, and is dedicated to his memory.

I hate having to hear this bad news about Matt. It wasn't too long ago that Eric Nguyen took his own life. I storm chase myself and can't understand why this has happened. My brother killed himself back in 94, so I do know the pain of going thru this. It just crushes family and friends beyond what words can say. Thanks for the video in honoring him.

This is such a beautiful tribute, thank you so much. Matt was one of my favourite chasers and I have cried everytime I look at this, Such a loss, Matt you were a shooting star who briefly illuminated our lives, rest in peace now. I shall remember you, and pray for your family and friends.

Great Video!!!!!! He was a Great Storm Chaser, and he will truely be missed by all. I know I did not know him very well except on the show and facebook but I admire his chasing and I will dedicate my chasing to his chasing dream. Fellow chasers should keep his spirit going. I chatted with Matt a few times and we exchanged a couple of emails about weather related stuff. Really nice guy. Funny and talented too. He'll be sorely missed. My sympathy for his family and many friends.

Thank you so much for your comment. Well I thought making that video was a great way to say to him "goodbye". Personally I also didn't know him, but I talked vía Facebook messages with him several times. Today at 10 am (5 pm in Spain) was his funeral. I tried to get as much people as posible to make a minute of silence for him and actually it worked perfectly!
My next successful chase I'm going to dedicate it to him, can be sure!

Matt was, without a doubt, one of those guys who will be remembered forever not only for what he did, or what he was known for, but the person he was. I was pleasured to have the opportunity to speak with him once, and just from that short little conversation I could tell he was a great guy!! He looked like a one-of-a-kind pro out there in the Doghouse!!
He will forever be missed!!!

I did not know him, and I can't remember if I ever talked to him through youtube or facebook, but it really did hit me hard of his death because of depression, and what such a nice guy he was. Go to his channel and see the amazing work he has done.

Is it true and if so, what happened? he was truely a very nice guy (never met him but I knew who he was/is) and I wished our paths might have crossed storm chasing out there. Alas, was never to be and I am so sad right now :( RIP Matt The very next rainbow I see, I will say a special prayer for him. Hope he's watching the rest of us persue our dreams, from up above :)
